Trump disappointed Russia launched rockets at Ukraine, blames Obama, Biden for Crimea giveaway
President Donald Trump said Sunday that he was disappointed with Russia for launching missiles while trying to reach a peace deal between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Trump spoke with reporters before boarding Air Force One on Sunday evening, where he was asked about everything from the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, and Iranian peace talks to the suicide of Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre.
During the gaggle, the president said his meeting on Saturday with Zelenskyy went very well.
«We’ll see what happens over the next few days,» Trump said. «I was very disappointed that missiles were flying, by Russia…very disappointed.»

Trump and Zelenskyy met face-to-face for the first time since their infamous Oval Office spat in February, as both were attending Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome.
After the meeting, the Ukrainian president posted on X that the meeting was «very symbolic» and could potentially be «historic.»
The meeting came as peace talks between Russia and Ukraine appeared to be at a standstill with Zelenskyy and Putin making competing demands.

Trump called the meeting with Zelenskyy on Saturday «beautiful.»
«Look, we have a tough road ahead, okay?» Trump said. «He told me that he needs more weapons, but he’s been saying that for three years. He needs more weapons, and we’re going to see what happens.
«I want to see what happens with respect to Russia,» Trump added.
He explained that he was very disappointed with Russia for conducting bombings in Kyiv after the discussions with both countries.

Trump said Zelenskyy spoke to him about Crimea, which has been a sticking point for the Ukrainian president.
American officials have apparently floated the idea of recognizing Russia’s control of Crimea, a territory that Russia seized in 2014, as part of a ceasefire proposal. This would also involve the freezing of current frontlines.
But Zelenskyy has drawn a red line about Crimea.
In 2022, Zelenskyy said the Russian war against Ukraine and against the entire free Europe «began with Crimea and must end with Crimea – and its liberation,» according to a report from Axios.

On Tuesday, Zelenskyy reiterated his stance, shutting down the idea that Ukraine would recognize Russian control of Crimea.
Trump blamed the state of Crimea on former U.S. presidents.
«Crimea was given away by Barack Hussein Obama, and by Biden, like 11 or 12 years ago. That’s a long time ago,» Trump told reporters. «I don’t know how he could bring up Crimea, because that’s been a long time. Nobody brought it up for 12 years, and now they’re bringing it up now. So, I told them, I told him, he should maybe go back to Obama, ask him why they gave it up. They gave it without a shot being fired by him.»
As far as current negotiations about reaching peace, Trump said he wanted Putin to «stop shooting, sit down and sign a deal.»
«We have the confines of a deal, I believe, and I want him to sign it and be done with it,» the president said.

Since his return to the Oval Office, Trump said the U.S. has been more respected than ever before. He also noted that with that strength, there are actions he can take against Russia, though he is not looking to act.
«There’s no more games,» he said before taking another dig at former President Biden. «We have somebody that knows what he’s doing, not like the previous person who didn’t have a clue.»
Trump touted that since implementing tariffs, costs are dropping «way down.»
For instance, he said groceries, eggs and gasoline are coming down. He also said the U.S. is collecting «a lot» of money from the tariffs.
«Eventually, we’ll be reducing taxes very substantially to the people of our country because the money is so great coming in from tariffs, that I’ll be able to reduce taxes to a very large extent, and maybe almost completely,» Trump said.
Along with tariffs, the president addressed peace negotiations in Iran, saying he thinks the deal is going to be made without «having to start dropping bombs all over the place.»

On a more somber note, Trump was asked for his reaction to Virginia Giuffre’s suicide in Australia.

Giuffre, 41, one of Epstein’s and Prince Andrew’s most prominent accusers, filed a lawsuit against the English royal in New York in 2021. In the lawsuit, Giuffre claimed she was forced to have sex with him three times between 1999 and 2002, when she was underage.
She died in Neergabby, Australia over the weekend, where she had been living, according to an NBC report.

«Well, it’s a very sad situation, the whole thing,» Trump said. «That whole situation is very sad, her and others. And so certainly that’s a horrible thing, horrible.»

California launches redistricting fight to ‘nullify’ Texas GOP plan, with Dems poised to gain 5 seats

As the controversy surrounding Texas’s redistricting efforts still rages, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Friday that the Golden State will move forward with a plan for a special election in early November to place its own redistricting plan on a ballot measure before voters.
Newsom said the move was a counterpunch to Texas and was being done in a transparent fashion, but would also likely see Democrats pick up five seats if the measure is adopted. The plan would allow Democrats to temporarily bypass the state’s independent redistricting commission and adopt a new congressional map ahead of the 2026 elections.
«We are talking about emergency measures to respond to what’s happening in Texas and we will nullify what happens in Texas,» Newsom said at a Friday press conference flanked by several California lawmakers and some Texas Democrats who fled their state.

«We’ll pick up five seats with the consent of the people. And that’s the difference between the approach we’re taking and the approach they’re taking,» Newsom continued. «We’re doing it on a temporary basis. We’re doing it in a fully transparent way and we’re doing it by asking the people of the state of California for their consent and support.»
California would be the first Democratic-led state to actively begin the process of passing new congressional district lines ahead of the 2026 midterms in response to Texas’s redistricting push.
Newsom said Democrats have until Aug. 22 to get the measure on the ballot and he railed against President Donald Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in justifying the move.
«Greg Abbott, who doesn’t have the courage, doesn’t have the backbone, doesn’t have a conscience of the consequences of his actions… is dialing now for new seats,» Newsom said Friday, referring to the Texas governor’s push for a mid-decade redistricting map and a call with President Trump.
«[Trump’s] agenda is failing. His presidency has failed. He knows the headwinds in a midterm. He’s dialing for seats now.»

Texas Republicans, encouraged by the Trump administration, are pursuing a congressional map aimed at adding up to five GOP-leaning districts, prompting fierce backlash and counteraction. Texas Democrats have fled the Lone Star State to Democrat-stronghold states to break quorum and halt the vote.
The Texas House requires a quorum of two-thirds of members present to conduct official business and state lawmakers have reported they plan to be absent from the state until the end of August, when the special session ends.
Texas Democrats argue that their state’s redistricting plan is unconstitutional and nakedly partisan.
Pelosi defended the Texas walkout, calling it «self-defense for our democracy.»
She said Democrats will not let Trump «pave over» free and fair elections in the country.

Texas Speaker of the House Dustin Burrows signed arrest warrants for the absent Democrats on Monday, following the state House approving of such warrants and Gov. Greg Abbott calling on the Texas Department of Public Safety to arrest the «delinquent Texas House Democrats.» The arrest warrants are largely viewed as symbolic as they only apply to those within state lines.
California State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, a Democrat, said maps would be available to view next week.
«Once these maps are released, voters will have the opportunity to digest these maps, review them for weeks and months leading to this election,» he said.

El régimen de Irán amenazó con bloquear el corredor impulsado por EEUU en el marco del acuerdo de paz entre Azerbaiyán y Armenia
Teherán, Ereván, Bakú y Washington figuran en el centro de nuevas tensiones diplomáticas tras el anuncio de un acuerdo regional para abrir un corredor estratégico en el Cáucaso, conocido oficialmente como la Ruta Trump para la Paz y la Prosperidad Internacionales (TRIPP). El acuerdo, auspiciado por el presidente estadounidense Donald Trump, pretende establecer un paso que atravesaría el sur de Armenia, conectando directamente a Azerbaiyán con su exclave de Najicheván y con Turquía.
Un diplomático azerbaiyano declaró que el plan, respaldado por la firma de una declaración conjunta en la Casa Blanca el viernes, representa un paso clave hacia un acuerdo de paz final entre su país y Armenia. Según la fuente, Armenia ha reiterado su apoyo al proceso y al corredor regional, aunque persisten diferencias en torno al estatus de Nagorno Karabaj.
La administración estadounidense afirmó que, bajo el acuerdo, únicamente Estados Unidos tendría derechos de desarrollo exclusivos sobre el corredor, una vía que, según confirmó la Casa Blanca, podría incrementar significativamente las exportaciones energéticas y de otros recursos desde la región.
Sin embargo, la propuesta despertó la inmediata oposición de Irán, que limita con la zona. Ali Akbar Velayati, principal asesor del líder supremo iraní Ali Khamenei, advirtió: “Este corredor no se convertirá en un paso propiedad de Trump, sino en un cementerio para los mercenarios de Trump”. Velayati también subrayó que los recientes ejercicios militares realizados en el noroeste del país demostraban la determinación iraní de impedir “cualquier cambio geopolítico” en la frontera.

Analistas y expertos señalaron que Irán, sometido a creciente presión internacional por su programa nuclear y tras la escalada militar de junio con Israel, carece actualmente de poder militar suficiente para bloquear efectivamente el corredor, aunque sus pronunciamientos logran tensar el ambiente diplomático.
Por su parte, Donald Trump recibió el viernes en la Casa Blanca al presidente de Azerbaiyán, Ilham Aliyev, y al primer ministro armenio, Nikol Pashinián, en una ceremonia en la que ambas partes suscribieron una declaración conjunta para poner fin a décadas de hostilidades.
La reacción de Rusia se hizo pública poco después. Aunque Moscú, tradicional intermediario y aliado de Armenia, expresó su apoyo a la cumbre impulsada por Washington, también hizo un llamamiento para “aplicar soluciones desarrolladas por los propios países de la región con el apoyo de sus vecinos inmediatos: Rusia, Irán y Turquía”, alertando sobre los riesgos de confiar en “la triste experiencia” de mediación occidental en Oriente Medio. Actualmente, guardias fronterizos rusos se encuentran estacionados en la frontera entre Armenia e Irán.
Turquía, miembro de la OTAN y aliado cercano de Azerbaiyán, acogió positivamente el acuerdo, lo que podría facilitar las conexiones de transporte y comerciales entre Ankara y Bakú.
Las tensiones entre Azerbaiyán y Armenia se remontan al final de la década de 1980, cuando la región montañosa de Nagorno Karabaj, de mayoría armenia pero situada en territorio azerbaiyano, declaró su independencia con el respaldo de Ereván. Suleymanov, quien fue enviado a Washington y trabajó en el gabinete presidencial, aclaró que la firma de un acuerdo de paz definitivo solo depende de que Armenia elimine de su Constitución toda referencia a Nagorno Karabaj. “Azerbaiyán está dispuesto a firmar en cualquier momento, una vez que Armenia cumpla el compromiso básico de eliminar de su Constitución la reivindicación territorial frente a Azerbaiyán”, manifestó el diplomático.
El primer ministro armenio, Nikol Pashinián, convocó este año un referéndum para modificar la Constitución, aunque no se ha fijado fecha para su celebración. Armenia programó elecciones parlamentarias para junio de 2026 y se prevé que la nueva carta magna esté redactada antes de las votaciones.
El acuerdo y las tensiones asociadas permanecerán bajo estrecha vigilancia internacional, debido a las implicaciones para la estabilidad y la seguridad energética del Cáucaso y sus vecinos.

Astronautas de la Crew-10 de SpaceX completaron su misión y regresaron a la Tierra tras cinco meses en la Estación Espacial Internacional
Cuatro astronautas regresaron este sábado a la Tierra tras casi cinco meses en la Estación Espacial Internacional (EEI), según informó el Centro Espacial Kennedy de la NASA. La tripulación, conformada por Anne McClain y Nichole Ayers de la NASA, Takuya Onishi de la Agencia de Exploración Aeroespacial de Japón (JAXA) y Kirill Peskov de Roscosmos, amerizó a las 8:33 horas del Pacífico estadounidense (15:33 GMT) frente a la costa de California, después de desacoplarse de la estación el viernes.
La cápsula Dragon, desarrollada por SpaceX, descendió en el océano Pacífico guiada por paracaídas, completando así la expedición tras 148 días en el laboratorio orbital. El amerizaje marcó la primera vez en casi 50 años que astronautas de NASA retornaron al Pacífico, la última ocasión había sido durante la histórica misión Apollo-Soyuz en 1975, cuando astronautas estadounidenses y soviéticos se encontraron en órbita.
Además, es la primera vez que una misión del programa de vuelos tripulados comerciales aterriza frente a las costas de California, desde que SpaceX decidió cambiar el punto de retorno de Florida a la costa oeste del país para reducir el riesgo de caída de escombros sobre áreas pobladas.
Durante su estancia en la EEI, la tripulación de la Crew-10 realizó una serie de investigaciones científicas destinadas a facilitar futuras misiones fuera de la órbita baja terrestre, según informó la NASA. Parte de esos experimentos estuvo compuesto por estudios biomédicos y tecnológicos, así como investigaciones sensibles al tiempo, tantas de ellas transportadas de regreso a la Tierra para su análisis inmediato.
La misión Crew-10 tiene una relevancia especial debido a su papel en la rotación de tripulaciones en la EEI. Según la fuente, los astronautas llegaron a la estación espacial el pasado 16 de marzo tras despegar desde el Centro Espacial Kennedy en Florida, con el objetivo de reemplazar a los tripulantes asignados previamente al fallido vuelo de demostración de la cápsula Starliner de Boeing. El prolongado fallo en el sistema del nuevo vehículo mantuvo a los astronautas Butch Wilmore y Suni Williams en la estación espacial más de nueve meses, muy por encima de la semana originalmente planeada, lo que llevó a NASA a ordenar el regreso del Starliner vacío y cambiar a la pareja a un vuelo de SpaceX.
Durante su retorno, McClain hizo referencia a “tiempos tumultuosos en la Tierra”, subrayando el valor de la cooperación internacional en la exploración espacial y la capacidad de la humanidad de trabajar unida ante desafíos globales. La comandante señaló que, tras el regreso, esperaba descansar unos días en Houston, mientras que el resto de la tripulación expresó entusiasmo por disfrutar de comodidades como duchas calientes y hamburguesas frescas, tras varios meses en el ambiente cerrado de la EEI.
Este décimo viaje operativo de SpaceX a la EEI destaca por el uso continuado de la cápsula Dragon como medio seguro de traslado entre la órbita y la superficie terrestre. La elección del Pacífico como zona de amerizaje responde a criterios de seguridad, asegurando tanto la integridad de la tripulación como la protección de las muestras científicas, muchas de ellas sumamente sensibles al tiempo y requeridas para experimentos en la Tierra apenas horas después del aterrizaje.
A esta tripulación la ha reemplazado ya la misión Crew-11, que permanecerá durante los próximos meses a bordo del laboratorio orbital, continuando con el programa de investigación de la NASA y sus socios internacionales.
