Llegar tarde

Mientras arrecian los ataques aéreos en ambos lados y Donald Trump amenaza con intervenir y presiona por un acuerdo de paz, Israel empieza a pensar en el escenario político iraní de posguerra.

El objetivo prioritario es destruir la capacidad nuclear de Teherán, pero el gobierno del primer ministro, Benjamin Netanyahu, dejó en claro que pretende un “levantamiento” del pueblo iraní para posibilitar lo que llamó “un cambio de régimen”.

“La lucha de Israel no es contra ustedes. Nuestra lucha es contra nuestro enemigo común: el régimen asesino que los oprime y los empobrece”, dijo en un discurso en inglés dirigido al pueblo iraní en el que les pidió “levantarse” contra las autoridades islámicas.

Pero la posibilidad de una implosión del gobierno teocrático es muy lejana y mucho más en un país en un contexto de guerra y con un férreo control civil, político y religioso.

“No creo que se dé un alzamiento. Es muy improbable que el régimen de Irán caiga por ahora. De hecho fortalecerá a los sectores duros ya que obliga al presidente actual, Masoud Pezeshkian, un reformista, a alinearse con los sectores más conservadores”, dijo a TN el analista Jairo Lugo-Ocando, decano de la Facultad de Comunicación de la Universidad de Sharjah en los Emiratos Árabes Unidos.

Cuál es el objetivo de Israel

El objetivo israelí es obvio: acabar con la capacidad nuclear de su enemigo. Pero esa prioridad no podrá ser alcanzada sin la ayuda militar directa de los Estados Unidos. Israel carece de las llamadas bombas antibúnker, “la madre de todas las bombas”, capaces de acabar con las cámaras subterráneas de la central nuclear de Fordo.

Pero detrás de esta prioridad evidente se esconde otro plan: propiciar un cambio de régimen interno.

El proyecto es el lado B de la maquinaria de guerra en marcha.

Este domingo explotaron cinco coches bomba en Teherán, informó la agencia de noticias estatal iraní IRNA. Los atentados no solo buscan crear temor, sino también caos en la capital para propiciar una imagen de debilidad del gobierno que pueda ser aprovechada por la disidencia interna.

El gobierno respondió con una severa limitación al acceso a internet. Los iraníes dijeron tener dificultades para conectarse incluso mediante las redes privadas virtuales (VPN) que les permiten eludir la censura gubernamental de sitios web y aplicaciones extranjeras, escribió The Washington Post.

En sus ataques, Israel puso en la mira no solo a las centrales nucleares y objetivos militares, sino también a importantes oficiales de las Fuerzas Armadas y de seguridad. Es el mismo guión que aplicó contra la milicia del Hezbolláh libanesa, hoy debilitada y bajo control.

Pero Irán es más poderoso. “Sé que sus apuestas dieron frutos en los últimos meses, pero Irán es diferente de Hamas o los hutíes. Es un pez mucho más gordo”, dijo Bader Al-Saif, profesor de historia en la Universidad de Kuwait, citado por The New York Times.

“El cambio puede ser para peor”

Por ahora Israel no ha puesto bajo la mira a la dirigencia política, como el líder supremo, el ayatolá Ali Jamenei, una especie de comandante en jefe y religioso del país. Es el dueño y señor de cualquier decisión final y está apoyado por fuerzas militares y de seguridad absolutamente leales.

Según The Israel Times, “la esperanza de socavar al régimen podría explicar por qué Israel persiguió a tantas figuras militares de alto rango, potencialmente lanzando al establishment de seguridad iraní en confusión y caos”.

“Esta gente era muy vital, muy conocedora, con muchos años en sus trabajos, y un componente muy importante de la estabilidad del régimen, específicamente la estabilidad de su seguridad”, dijo Michael Singh, del Instituto de Washington para la Política de Medio Oriente.

Pero cualquier mutación política podría ser aún más contraproducente para los objetivos israelíes. “Ese cambio vendría con riesgo”, dijo Jonathan Panikoff, un exsuboficial de inteligencia nacional de Estados Unidos para Medio Oriente y actual analista del centro de estudios Atlantic Council.

Según el experto, “si Israel logra destituir al liderazgo de Irán, no hay garantía de que el sucesor que surja no sea aún más duro en pos del conflicto con Israel. La historia nos dice que siempre puede ser peor“, advirtió.

Para Lugo-Ocando, “el cambio de regímenes en Medio Oriente que sean más proclives a Israel, o al menos tan débiles que no representen una amenaza, está al centro de la política exterior israelí”.

Es un escenario complejo. Más allá de su retórica bélica, la dirigencia de Irán es consciente de que no podrá combatir con Israel y Estados Unidos. Por eso ya se ha acercado a Omán y Qatar para un primer paso de intermediación que permita un alto el fuego y el reinicio de las negociaciones nucleares con Estados Unidos, reveló The Jerusalem Post.

«Our Nation’s ICE Officers have shown incredible strength, determination, and courage as they facilitate a very important mission, the largest Mass Deportation Operation of Illegal Aliens in History,» Trump wrote. «Every day, the Brave Men and Women of ICE are subjected to violence, harassment, and even threats from Radical Democrat Politicians, but nothing will stop us from executing our mission, and fulfilling our Mandate to the American People.»

«ICE Officers are herewith ordered, by notice of this TRUTH, to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History,» the president added.

The immigration protests began in LA on June 7, after local ICE raids resulted in hundreds of arrests, including the arrests of those with violent criminal histories. The president immediately deployed the National Guard to the area when protests started two weeks ago, garnering criticism from Democrats insisting their presence would only escalate tensions.

As the protests and riots expanded nationally, continuing into this weekend, violence also took hold of certain crowds, injuring both federal and local law enforcement officials, as well as demonstrators.

On Saturday, an innocent bystander was fatally shot during an organized protest in Salt Lake City, Utah, when two event peacekeepers in neon vests opened fire on a suspect, Arturo Gamboa, 24, who ran toward the crowd with a rifle, and ended up shooting the wrong person.

In spite of the protests, Trump doubled down on his efforts to deport illegal immigrants in his Sunday post.

He added that he wants ICE officers «to know that REAL Americans are cheering [them] on every day.»

ICE has organized several high-profile raids across the country as part of the president’s campaign promise to deliver mass-deportations. Trump promised to prioritize criminal illegal aliens, but critics allege the administration is separating families and targeting non-criminal workers.

«I don’t think the president understands that we have entire sectors of our economy that cannot function without immigrant labor,» LA Mayor Karen Bass said on «State of the Union» Sunday.

The Trump administration called for a halt on deportation raids on agricultural sites, hotels and restaurants, and not to arrest «noncriminal collaterals» the New York Times reported. The move came out of fears that the sweeping raids were hurting key industries in the U.S.
