Ilhan Omar’s radical streamer ally rallies with embattled lawmaker after DC home raid

Far-left streamer Hasan Piker dodged his controversial past in an exchange with Digital on Tuesday, hours after teaming up with embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., on the campaign trail to co-host an event in her home state of Minnesota.
He also dismissed his disagreements with Democratic Party leaders after he called Republicans «terrorists» and Omar said the GOP is the «pedophile protection party» during the stream on Monday.
Omar’s decision to embrace Piker on the campaign trail marks a potentially risky political alliance, coming on the back of a high-profile raid on her Washington, D.C., home amid two dueling investigations — one for alleged immigration fraud, which could threaten her political future and citizenship status, and the other for fishy financial disclosure statement discrepancies.
The lawmaker’s appearance with Piker comes after Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed drew backlash from his own party for campaigning with the controversial Twitch streamer earlier this cycle.
HASAN PIKER LASHES OUT AT REPUBLICANS, CALLS THEM ‘TERRORISTS’ IN EVENT WITH ILHAN OMAR
Digital confronted Piker at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport heading out of Minnesota after the Monday livestream. He was pressed on the criticism stemming from Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., and Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., after the two condemned Piker’s comments and pushed back on Democrats’ choice to engage with him on the campaign trail.
«Well, Angie Craig lost, and I think Klobuchar is going to make for a great governor,» Piker told Digital while walking to security.
Klobuchar condemned Piker’s past statements as «reckless and unacceptable,» while Craig called his rhetoric «polarizing and dangerous» and directly called out Minnesota Democrats, like Omar and Fateh, for hosting Monday’s event with Piker as a «mistake.»
When asked if the two Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota were right to call out the rhetoric, Piker wrote off their disagreements as «the beauty of democracy,» while also throwing jabs at Fox News.
«I know this is probably going to come across as confusing, because you work for Fox News, but we sometimes disagree with our leadership in the Democratic Party,» he said. «And sometimes our leadership disagrees with us.»
«But at the end of the day,» he continued, «that’s the beauty of democracy.»
HASAN PIKER ADMITS HE HAS ‘DIALED DOWN’ HIS OPINIONS AFTER PUBLIC AND DEMOCRATIC BACKLASH
The controversy over the Somali-born congresswoman deciding to sit down with Piker with just over one week until the 2026 midterms exposes a divide among Minnesota Democrats — is it justifiable to work with Piker in order to rally his large, young, progressive base to get out and vote despite his heavily condemned commentary?
Piker was asked on Tuesday about his previous comments on Jewish people and Israel after prominent Democrats joined Republicans who have called the streamer antisemitic. He suggested that Jewish Americans were inviting violence against themselves over their support for Israel. He has repeatedly stood by his comments against Israel over its ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza.
«Anti-Zionism is not antisemitism,» Piker told Digital.
«I will always fight against antisemitism and I find all bigotry to be morally repugnant and completely unacceptable. But I also find it a real shame to constantly complain about people who are outspoken on the issue of Israel’s genocide.»
It was after Democrats, including House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., began calling out Piker for his extreme comments that El-Sayed distanced himself after frequently making appearances side-by-side.
Another reason why Omar’s choice to engage with Piker has been questioned within the party.
Piker refused to comment on one issue though — his past comments claiming America «deserved 9/11.»
«You made some comments on 9/11, do you still stand by them?» Digital asked Piker, at which point he ignored the question and walked through the line for security.
Both Piker and Omar attacked President Donald Trump during their event Monday night, with the Somali-born lawmaker ripping his «obsession» with Minnesotans. Piker, meanwhile, shamed Democrats for ceding on immigration arguments to Trump’s agenda back in 2024.
REP ILHAN OMAR’S IMMIGRATION HISTORY FACES NEW SCRUTINY AS FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS SUBPOENA RELATIVES
«That’s unacceptable. Migrants are not a national security threat. They are our neighbors. They are allies. They work alongside us. They are not the burden, but a benefit. They are what make this country strong, and they’re what make it this country great,» Piker insisted.
«Any Democrat that refuses to recognize that, in my opinion, is un-American,» he concluded.
Omar is running for reelection and projected for a clear win, despite being under investigation by both Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) for immigration fraud and questionable financial filings.
The Minnesota Democrat’s name has also come into question following HSI’s raid on her Washington, D.C., home, with a new federal court filing referring to her as «Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,» as first reported by Digital. A source told Fox that the language used for her name in the filing was reflective of the evidence compiled in the immigration fraud probe into Omar.
Omar has defended her name as «Ilhan Abdullahi Omar» and has also denied wrongdoing, accusing the Trump administration of targeting her for political reasons.

Britain’s sweeping new crackdown on ‘antisocial’ behavior sparks free speech backlash: ‘Peak insanity’

The United Kingdom introduced new «respect orders» across England and Wales on Monday, giving authorities expanded powers to crack down on persistent «antisocial» behavior and drawing criticism from free speech advocates concerned about potential government overreach.
The U.K. government’s order enables police and councils to take stronger «enforcement action» against «adult offenders» of persistent «antisocial» behavior, according to a government news release.
Under the new restrictions, U.K. courts could ban offenders from town centers or prohibit them from drinking in «public hot spots» like local parks, the announcement states. Courts can impose restrictions and requirements through a civil Respect Order, while individuals who breach an order without a reasonable excuse can face criminal prosecution, including potentially unlimited fines or imprisonment.
Under the legislation governing the Respect Orders, antisocial behavior is defined as conduct that has caused, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to any person. The definition has prompted concerns from critics that the powers could be applied too broadly, although the law requires judicial approval before an order can be imposed.
UK PRIME MINISTER SAYS FOOTBALL FANS ‘SINGLED OUT’ BY ALCOHOL BAN NOT IMPOSED ON RUGBY MATCHES
«Unchecked, antisocial [behavior] blights our communities,» Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said in a statement. «But it is not inevitable, and I won’t accept it. For too long, we have lacked the powers we need to deal with this problem properly. From today, that changes: authorities will be able to take tough action against these offenders.
«This delivers on a commitment we made to the British people in our manifesto,» Mahmood continued. «And, most importantly, those who make life a misery for others will now face the consequences of their actions.»
Some offenders may be required to «tackle» the «root causes» of their behavior by participating in drug or alcohol treatment or anger-management programs, according to the announcement.
Violating a respect order is considered a criminal offense, giving police the power to arrest anyone on charges of violating the rules, according to the press release. Those who defy an order could also face up to two years of jail time.
When reached for comment, the U.K. Cabinet Office referred Digital to the Home Office, which could not immediately be reached for comment.
Alan Mendoza, co-founder and executive director of U.K.-based think tank the Henry Jackson Society, told Digital Tuesday that «vague» definitions under the government’s respect orders could result in such enforcement actions being wrongfully «applied to lawful speech or protest.»
«I think the breadth of these orders deserves scrutiny, particularly in the case of potentially unlimited fines,» Mendoza explained.
«The government has a legitimate duty to tackle genuinely antisocial behaviour, but the powers need to be tightly defined and proportionate. Vague or elastic definitions could allow measures intended for serious nuisance or harassment to be applied to lawful speech or protest. We have already seen similar after all with social media posts and police investigations that follow.
«There should be clear statutory limits, proper evidence requirements, judicial oversight and an effective right of appeal,» he added. «Online criticism, however unwelcome, should not be treated as antisocial [behavior] simply because it is unpopular or embarrassing to those in authority.»
UK POLICE APOLOGIZE TO ‘FATHER TED’ CREATOR GRAHAM LINEHAN FOR ARREST OVER TRANS SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS
Mendoza said the U.K. government «should be able to demonstrate that these powers are necessary and contain adequate safeguards against arbitrary or disproportionate use.»
The orders notably replace civil injunctions for adult offenders and grant U.K. police more enforcement powers, «including the ability to arrest anyone who breaches an order,» according to the announcement.
The new restrictions have drawn intense criticism across social media, with one X user claiming in a post Monday that the orders are «mental,» while another X account referred to the rules as «peak insanity.»
«Laugh all you want at what a joke England has become, but understand that the U.S. will follow right behind if Democrats ever take full power again,» the Federalist CEO and co-founder Sean Davis wrote Monday in an X post.
Tech and free speech lawyer Preston Byrne similarly took to social media to criticize the orders, saying that U.K. residents should «keep in mind that one can cause ‘harassment, alarm, or distress’ in England and Wales by uttering a true statement of fact to someone who doesn’t want to hear it, or by offering an honestly-held opinion or belief, spoken or written, which also offends.»
British political commentator Calvin Robinson wrote in an X post Monday responding to the orders that «this tyranny must end.»
The U.K. has notably enacted a spate of laws restricting free speech in recent years, including the 2023 Online Safety Act, which gives the country’s regulator the authority to impose major fines on digital platforms if they fail to comply with certain requirements.
The new restrictions come amid growing tensions across Europe, where protests and riots have rocked countries, most notably France.
