Anti-ICE riots force HUD offices to close weeks after ‘Squad’ Dem, Maxine Waters said Trump would close them

Three Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) field offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City have temporarily closed their doors in the face of violence stemming from anti-ICE riots and protests, HUD confirmed to Fox News Digital on Tuesday.
The temporary closures due to the violence come just weeks after Democrats such as California Rep. Maxine Waters and Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib claimed HUD field offices would permanently close due to Department of Government Efficiency efforts, with Waters saying such closures would affect «families and communities across the country who rely on HUD for housing assistance, community and economic development projects.»
HUD Secretary Scott Turner exclusively told Fox News Digital on Tuesday that liberals’ claims in recent weeks that HUD would shutter field offices were «fake news» while lambasting Democrats for «encouraging riots» that have caused the three offices to temporarily shutter.
«The left and legacy media spread fake news over false reports that HUD is closing field offices,» Turner told Fox News Digital Tuesday. «Now they’re encouraging riots that have actually forced at least three field offices to temporarily close.»

Now, three field offices are temporarily closed as riots and protests spiral in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City. Los Angeles has seen widespread riots since Friday, when federal law enforcement officials converged on the city to conduct immigration raids as part of President Donald Trump’s campaign vow to deport the millions of illegal immigrants who crossed the border under the Biden administration.
Other anti-ICE protests have broken out in New York City and San Francisco since the L.A. riots began, which have led to dozens of arrests.

Fox News Digital obtained more than a dozen images showing graffiti strewn across a federal building in downtown L.A., which is home to a HUD field office. HUD’s satellite office is located just blocks from City Hall, where some of the violent riots have unfolded.
Media outlets earlier in 2025 ran headlines that the Trump administration had plans to shutter dozens of HUD field offices across the country, which was reported as a potential violation of federal law as HUD must be represented in each state. Turner said on X on Tuesday that his department «hasn’t closed a single field office.»
Waters led a group of Democrat lawmakers and anti-DOGE protesters in March in an attempt to enter HUD headquarters and hand-deliver a protest letter to Turner that demanded «answers on efforts to decimate federal housing programs.»

Waters, and a handful of other House Democrats, were permitted to enter HUD headquarters, while the California Democrat warned they would «stay all night» until they met with Turner, Breitbart News exclusively reported in March. HUD staffers informed the group they would deliver the letter to Turner, while Waters protested for a meeting with the HUD secretary.

Tlaib also attempted to take part in the gaggle of lawmakers demanding to meet with Turner, but was seen stopped at HUD’s entrance in video footage. Tlaib was heard shouting,»You don’t give a sh–!» at HUD employees as the group of lawmakers and DOGE protesters ultimately left the building without meeting with Turner.
A month after the HUD trip, Waters sent a letter in April to the Government Accountability Office’s comptroller and HUD’s acting inspector general calling for an investigation into allegations «the Administration plans to shut down local field offices and terminate housing agency staff.»
«I am concerned about what effects this will have on families and communities across the country who rely on HUD for housing assistance, community and economic development projects, as well as enforcement of federal fair housing and civil rights laws,» Waters wrote in the letter.

«Employees across approximately 54 field offices have localized expertise and work in communities to carry out face-to-face technical assistance, provide timely guidance to local grantees and officials to help speed up project timelines, and manage oversight and enforcement of federal statutes in each region,» she continued. «The Trump Administration’s proposal to close 34 field offices would severely disrupt federal housing programs, stall local development projects, and threaten the jobs of approximately 360 full-time employees.»

Fox News Digital reached out to Waters’ and Tlaib’s respective offices inquiring whether they are still concerned about HUD office closures due to violence in the left-wing cities, but did not immediately receive responses.
Riots broke out in L.A. on Friday evening after federal law enforcement officials converged on the city to carry out immigration raids. Local leaders such as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom quickly denounced the raids in public statements while offering words of support for illegal immigrants in the state.
Protests over the raids soon devolved into violence as rioters targeted federal law enforcement officials, including launching rocks at officials, with videos showing people looting local stores, setting cars on fire and taking over a freeway.

Trump announced on Saturday that he was deploying 2,000 National Guard members to help quell the violence, and the administration deployed hundreds of Marines to respond to anti-immigration chaos on Monday evening as the violence continued.

Un vuelo de Air India con destino a Londres Gatwick se estrelló un minuto después de despegar del Aeropuerto Internacional Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel en Ahmedabad, el jueves.
La tragedia ocurrió a las 13:39, cuando el avión, un Boeing 787 Dreamliner identificado como el vuelo AI171, se precipitó sobre una zona residencial llamada Meghani Nagar.

Según indicó la compañía Air India en un posteo de X, el avión llevaba a bordo a 242 personas: 230 pasajeros, 2 pilotos y 10 miembros de la tripulación. Entre los pasajeros había 169 ciudadanos indios, 53 británicos, siete portugueses y un canadiense.

Un video de 17 segundos capturó el momento en que la aeronave se estrelló, en medio de una enorme bola de fuego. Luego se elevó una densa columna de humo negro, visible desde varios kilómetros de distancia, testimonio visual del impacto devastador.

Los pilotos emitieron una llamada de socorro “Mayday” poco antes de estrellarse, pero luego la aeronave no respondió a las llamadas realizadas por el control de tráfico aéreo. “Inmediatamente después de despegar de la pista 23, la aeronave cayó a tierra fuera del perímetro del aeropuerto“, indicaron las autoridades al canal NDTV. El accidente ocurrió a las 13:39 es decir un minuto después del despegue.
El vuelo llevaba una gran cantidad de combustible para el trayecto de larga distancia, lo que aumentó la intensidad de la explosión y el incendio que siguieron al accidente.

Además, imágenes difundidas por medios locales muestran restos de la aeronave sobre edificios de la zona. Ahmedabad es la mayor ciudad del estado indio de Gujarat y tiene una población de ocho millones de habitantes. El aeropuerto está en medio de zonas residenciales muy pobladas.

El comunicado del presidente de Air India
El presidente de la compañía aérea, N. Chandrasekaran, indicó en un comunicado: “Con profundo pesar, confirmo que el vuelo AI 171 de Air India, que operaba entre Ahmedabad y Londres Gatwick, sufrió un trágico accidente hoy. Nuestro más sentido pésame a las familias y seres queridos de todos los afectados por este devastador suceso”.
“En este momento, nuestro principal objetivo es apoyar a todas las personas afectadas y a sus familias. Estamos haciendo todo lo posible para ayudar a los equipos de respuesta a emergencias en el lugar y brindar todo el apoyo y la atención necesarios a las personas afectadas”, agregó.

El Ministro de Aviación Civil, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, dijo que está monitoreando personalmente la situación. “Mis pensamientos y oraciones están con todos los que están a bordo y sus familias”, dijo en una publicación en X.
El primer ministro indio, Narendra Modi, calificó el accidente como una tragedia “desgarradora” para la cual no hay palabras.

“Las imágenes que están llegando del accidente de un avión con destino a Londres que transportaba a muchos ciudadanos británicos y que se estrelló en la ciudad india de Ahmedabad son devastadoras”, declaró.
Según medios locales, las autoridades acordonaron la zona, unos 90 rescatistas ya trabajan en el lugar y varios heridos fueron trasladados a hospitales cercanos.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is being mocked online for an «embarrassing» televised address on Tuesday night that experienced several technology meltdowns, resulting in the governor not being audible for parts of his speech.
In a prerecorded message, Newsom, a Democrat rumored to have presidential aspirations, harshly condemned President Donald Trump’s «brazen abuse of power» by using the military to respond to the ongoing anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. He also said that those who engage in violence will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
«This isn’t just about protests here in Los Angeles,» Newsom said in the video. «This is about all of us. This is about you. California may be first, but it clearly will not end here. Other states are next. Democracy is next. Democracy is under assault before our eyes.»
His address, however, was inhibited by several technical issues, which resulted in his audio being cut off and distorted several times.

Noting the meltdown on X, David Freeman, a conservative political commentator, mocked «Gavin Newsom’s staff can’t even set up a stream properly as his ‘Major Announcement’ has NO AUDIO.»
«If they can’t do this correct, what makes anyone believe they can run California at all? EMBARRASSING!» said Freeman.
«UTTER CALAMITY,» commented Link Lauren, a political commentator and former senior advisor to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Kevin Dalton, a popular conservative influencer, commented, «Gavin Newsom’s ‘Major Address to Californians’ was a prerecorded video that was initially streamed without audio. After several minutes, a new color corrected version of the same video with actual audio was started. What an absolute fail.»

Another popular conservative social media account, The Washington Observer, commented: «Sean Hannity is desperately trying to play Gavin Newsom’s speech — but he can’t, because Newsom’s audio is melting down for the third time tonight.»
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., who observed the audio issues in real time on the «Sean Hannity Show,» also chimed in, saying, «So, I went on Sean Hannity to react to Gavin Newsom’s speech. Turns out, it was a total mess. Disorganized. Bad audio.»
Mullin quipped, «But, what else should we expect from this poor excuse for a leader?»
White House assistant to the president and director of communications Steven Cheung also piled onto the criticism, accusing Newsom of spending time creating the video rather than serving as governor. Likewise, Cheung took a swipe at the video’s audio, claiming the production quality was akin to Newsom’s leadership.
«Gavin NewScum spent all this time–instead of doing his actual job– preparing for a webinar just for the audio to not work,» Cheung said in a post on X late Tuesday evening. «The production quality is just like his leadership quality– s—ty.»

Deputy assistant to the president and principal deputy communications director Alex Pfeiffer responded to Newsom’s speech by saying that rather than Trump, «California is trying to subvert democracy.»

«American voters elected President Donald Trump to carry out his agenda, which includes enforcing the immigration laws passed by their elected representatives,» said Pfeiffer.
In response, Newsom’s press office referred Fox News Digital to a Tuesday night X post, which acknowledged the issues by saying, «Sorry for the momentary silence earlier — our stream briefly went under Trump-era transparency rules.»

Un avión de Air India se estrelló poco después de despegar rumbo a Londres con más de 242 personas a bordo
Un avión de Air India con destino a Londres se estrelló este jueves poco después de despegar del aeropuerto Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel en la ciudad de Ahmedabad, al oeste de la India, informaron fuentes del servicio de bomberos. Según reportes preliminares, al menos 240 personas se encontraban a bordo de la aeronave.
Las imágenes transmitidas por medios locales muestran espesas columnas de humo negro elevándose desde las inmediaciones del aeropuerto. Testigos presenciales indicaron que el incidente ocurrió pocos minutos después del despegue, pero aún no hay confirmación oficial sobre víctimas fatales o heridos.
En un breve comunicado, Air India informó que uno de sus vuelos que cubría la ruta entre Ahmedabad y Londres-Gatwick estuvo “involucrado en un incidente”, sin ofrecer mayores detalles hasta el momento.
Posteriormente, la aerolínea confirmó que su vuelo 171 entre la ciudad occidental de Ahmedabad y Londres Gatwick se había estrellado en un “trágico accidente”.
“Con profundo pesar confirmo que el vuelo 171 de Air India que operaba Ahmedabad Londres Gatwick ha sufrido hoy un trágico accidente”, dijo el presidente de Air India, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, en un comunicado.
“Nuestros pensamientos y más profundas condolencias están con las familias y seres queridos de todos los afectados por este devastador suceso”, dijo, añadiendo que se ha activado un centro de emergencia y se ha creado un equipo de apoyo para las familias que busquen información.
De acuerdo con los informes de la empresa aérea, los entre los pasajeros a bordo del avión accidentado iban 169 indios, 53 británicos, 7 portugueses y un canadiense.
“El vuelo… transportaba 242 pasajeros y miembros de la tripulación a bordo del avión Boeing 787-8”, indicó el comunicado. Entre los 230 pasajeros, “169 son de nacionalidad india, 53 británicos, un canadiense y siete portugueses”.
“Los heridos están siendo trasladados a los hospitales más cercanos”, señaló, añadiendo que “Air India está prestando toda su cooperación a las autoridades que investigan este incidente”.
El primer ministro indio, Narendra Modi, se declaró este jueves conmocionado por el hecho en un mensaje en la red social X: “la tragedia de Ahmedabad nos ha aturdido y entristecido. Es desgarrador más allá de las palabras”.
“En esta triste hora, mis pensamientos están con todos los afectados”, dijo, añadiendo que había “estado en contacto con ministros y autoridades que están trabajando para ayudar a los afectados”.
Las autoridades de aviación civil y equipos de emergencia se encuentran en la zona del siniestro. Se espera que en las próximas horas se emita un parte oficial sobre las causas del accidente y el estado de los ocupantes del avión.
El jefe de Gobierno de Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, expresó su “profunda angustia” por el accidente a través de la red social X y aseguró haber dado “instrucciones para iniciar inmediatamente operaciones de rescate y socorro de emergencia”.
Patel ordenó dar “prioridad absoluta” al tratamiento de los heridos y la creación de un corredor verde para su traslado rápido a los hospitales.
El dirigente estatal añadió que el ministro del Interior de la Unión, Amit Shah, se ha puesto en contacto con él para asegurar el “pleno apoyo del Gobierno Central” y el despliegue de equipos de la Fuerza Nacional de Respuesta a Desastres (NDRF, por sus siglas en inglés) para colaborar en las labores de rescate.
