Blue states rallied for illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses ahead of Trump’s REAL ID crackdown
Americans are scrambling to obtain a state-issued REAL ID in order to travel by plane ahead of a federal deadline next month, which comes after states from coast to coast changed their laws surrounding driver’s licenses to permit illegal immigrants to drive.
Americans will need to obtain a REAL ID, which is a federally-compliant driver’s license or other identification that meets higher standards than state-issued licenses, in order to easily travel by air, the Department of Homeland Security explains on its website. Only legal U.S. citizens or residents can obtain the identification card, while valid U.S. passports can also still be used instead of a REAL ID for domestic air travel.
Congress passed the REAL ID Act in 2005 to heighten security requirements for driver’s licenses in response to the attacks on 9/11. Though some states began complying with the law more than a decade ago, enforcement for all states had been repeatedly delayed due to the pandemic, DMV backlogs, as well as some states, such as South Carolina, initially refusing to comply.
The move to officially enforce REAL IDs at the national level for domestic air travel comes after 19 states and Washington, D.C., put laws on the books allowing illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.

The states, which stretch from New York and New Jersey to California and Washington state, changed their laws in order to allow illegal immigrants to drive freely to work, while also ensuring they meet driving skill requirements and could obtain car insurance to bolster road safety, various liberal lawmakers and immigrant advocacy groups said as they rallied support for the law changes.
«Expanding access to driver’s licenses is critical for the safety of New Jerseyans and a step toward building a stronger and fairer New Jersey for all,» New Jersey Democrat Gov. Phil Murphy, for example, said in 2019 after signing the Garden State’s legislation allowing illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.

New Jersey is among the states that have reported long wait times at DMVs as residents scramble to obtain a REAL ID to fly ahead of the May 7 deadline.
The states that allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses include: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Washington. Washington state had a law on the books allowing illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses since 1993, National Conference of State Legislatures data show, while most states, such as Illinois and California, began changing their laws starting in 2012.
In Massachusetts in 2022, Republican Gov. Charlie Baker vetoed legislation allowing illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses, citing that local DMVs did not have the ability to verify the validity of foreign documents and that it would overall weaken the validity of state driver’s licenses.

«I cannot sign this legislation because it requires the Registry of Motor Vehicles to issue state credentials to people without the ability to verify their identity. The Registry does not have the expertise or ability to verify the validity of many types of documents from other countries,» Baker said at the time. «Consequently, a standard Massachusetts driver’s license will no longer confirm that a person is who they say they are.»
Massachusetts ultimately allowed illegal aliens to obtain driver’s licenses through a ballot initiative.
Domestic air travelers who are in the nation illegally are required to present a valid and up-to-date photo ID to board a flight, and can show documents such as a driver’s license, a current foreign passport, a military ID or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) Employment Authorization Card, and other forms of photo IDs, according to various immigrant advocacy groups.

The Trump administration, which has been on an illegal immigration deportation blitz, revealed in a memo last week that the REAL ID requirement will further crack down on illegal aliens moving freely around the country.

A Department of Homeland Security memo exclusively obtained by Fox Digital last week outlined that part of the motivation for the Trump administration to enforce the REAL ID law is to prevent those in the country illegally from flying – unless they are looking to self-deport on an international flight.
«Under Biden, illegal aliens used non-compliant IDs from sanctuary cities to board flights, but REAL ID’s higher security standards make it nearly impossible to forge legitimate documents, ensuring only verified travelers can fly,» the memo states.
«This closes the gaping vulnerabilities Biden’s policies created, preventing criminals and potential terrorists from exploiting our aviation system, as seen during 9/11 when fraudulent IDs enabled attacks,» the memo continues.

The agency emphasized that the measure prevents people in the country illegally from traveling within the U.S.
«DHS and TSA are clear, the only place an illegal alien should be flying is home. Under Secretary Kristi Noem’s leadership, illegal aliens will be barred from domestic flights, with one exception: illegal aliens self-deporting on international flights will be allowed to board without a REAL ID, encouraging their exit from the U.S.,» it states.
While many conservatives backed the REAL ID Act, both in 2005 and now, some have said it bolsters the oversight «Big Brother» holds over the country.

President Donald Trump, under his first administration, pushed back the REAL ID October 2020 deadline as the pandemic raged. The Biden administration’s DHS established the May 7, 2025, deadline in 2022.
Tricia McLaughlin, the DHS assistant secretary for public affairs, told Fox News Digital in a statement last week: «REAL IDs make identification harder to forge, thwarting criminals and terrorists. 81% of air travelers hold REAL ID-compliant or acceptable IDs. DHS will continue to collaborate with state, local, and airport authorities to inform the public, facilitate compliance, curb wait times and prevent fraud.»

El régimen chino expulsó de manera ilegal a una corbeta filipina que se encontraba en aguas en disputa
El Ejército chino anunció este domingo que expulsó a una corbeta filipina de aguas que están en disputa y que reclama como suyas, en el enésimo encontronazo territorial entre ambos países.
El portavoz de la Marina para el Mando Sur de Operaciones, el capitán Zhao Zhiwei, declaró que la corbeta “invadió ilegalmente las aguas territoriales” del atolón de Scarborough, sin precisar exactamente cuando comenzó el incidente.
En respuesta, la Marina “organizó sus fuerzas para rastrearla, investigarla, advertirla y expulsarla conforme a la ley”, añadió el capitán.
El portavoz reiteró que las acciones de Filipinas “vulneran gravemente la soberanía de China y violan gravemente las disposiciones pertinentes de la legislación china y del Derecho Internacional”.
“Advertimos enérgicamente a Filipinas que cese de inmediato sus infracciones y provocaciones, o asumirá la plena responsabilidad de todas las consecuencias derivadas”, remarcó. Filipinas todavía no se pronunció sobre este incidente.
En 2016, el Tribunal Permanente de Arbitraje falló a favor de Filipinas y rechazó las reivindicaciones de China sobre las aguas de la zona. Además, la corte determinó que Beijing se comportó de forma “ilegal” y que carece de “derechos históricos” a los que agarrarse para reclamar su soberanía, una postura que ha sido duramente rechazada por las autoridades del gigante asiático.
Posteriormente, el Gobierno chino ofreció a Filipinas la posibilidad de ignorar el fallo de la citada corte para realizar perforaciones conjuntas en la zona.
Por su parte, Manila argumentó en varias ocasiones que ninguna de las islas o arrecifes de las islas Spratly, también en el mar de China Meridional, son lo suficientemente grandes como para garantizar una zona económica exclusiva (ZEE) de hasta 200 millas náuticas para China. En cambio, en el caso del banco de arena, alega que está incluida dentro de la ZEE correspondiente a la isla filipina de Luzón y, por lo tanto, pertenece a Filipinas.
A finales de marzo, imágenes satelitales expusieron una incursión de aviones bombarderos chinos en el mar Meridional.
El material provisto por Maxar Technologies mostró dos aviones al este del Scarborough Shoal —que China llama “Huangyan Dao”—, uno de los principales focos de tensión ente China y Filipinas, dado que Beijing lo ocupó en 2012, pero Manila lo reclama como propio.
La firma precisó también que las naves asignadas para estos vuelos fueron bombarderos H-6 —con capacidad para transportar misiles de crucero antibuque, de ataque terrestre o con puntas nucleares— y que, si bien no se sabe a qué altura se desplazaron, se pudo confirmar que lo hacían a gran velocidad.
El Ministerio de Defensa chino no hizo comentarios al respecto pero muchos analistas aseguraron que se trató de un mensaje dirigido a Estados Unidos, aliado de Filipinas, en lo que fue la antesala de la visita del jefe del Pentágono a Filipinas.
Xi Jinping envió “una señal de que China tiene un ejército sofisticado”, comenzó evaluando Peter Layton, del Instituto Griffith Asia de Australia, antes de sumar que “el segundo mensaje podría ser que ustedes (Estados Unidos) tienen el potencial para un ataque de largo alcance y nosotros también y en mayor número”.
“Claramente no es una casualidad”, insistió.
Por su parte, en su visita a Manila de finales de marzo, el secretario de Defensa de Estados Unidos, Pete Hegseth, afirmó que la disuasión “a través de la fuerza” es necesaria en Filipinas “teniendo en cuenta las amenazas de los chinos comunistas”.
“La paz a través de la fuerza es algo muy real, la disuasión es necesaria en todo el mundo, pero específicamente en esta región, teniendo en cuenta las amenazas de los chinos comunistas”, señaló el jefe del Pentágono en un encuentro con el presidente de Filipinas en Manila, Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Hegseth añadió que EEUU tiene “un gran interés” en expandir su cooperación militar con Filipinas “donde sea beneficioso mutuamente”, y subrayó el compromiso a la alianza entre ambos países del presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump.

Reino Unido: creció más de 30% el abandono de mascotas porque sus dueños no pueden mantenerlas
En los últimos años, el personal de un refugio de animales de Londres encontró en su puerta desde gatitos en cajas a cotorras en jaulas. Ahora hay cada vez más propietarios que les entregan sus mascotas porque simplemente no pueden pagar por cuidarlos.
El costo de vida en Reino Unido aumentó después de la pandemia y el estallido de la guerra en Ucrania. Si bien la inflación hoy se moderó, muchos británicos sufren el aumento de precios en general. En el caso de la comida para mascotas, el alza se sitúa en un 25%.

Muchos propietarios de animales en problemas financieros sienten “mucho dolor, pero también vergüenza y frustración por tener que tomar decisiones tan difíciles”, afirmó Elvira Meucci-Lyons, responsable del centro Mayhew, en el oeste de Londres. ”Acuden a nosotros porque sienten que no tienen opción. Detrás de cada animal que acogemos hay una historia humana”, contó.
El abandono de mascotas aumentó 32% este año
Esta pequeña protectora recibió unos 130 animales en lo que va de año. Es solo una mínima fracción de las decenas de miles de mascotas abandonadas en el país desde la pandemia del covid y la crisis que derivó en un aumento del costo de vida.
Solo en los primeros meses de 2025, la asociación RSPCA, la organización de bienestar animal más antigua del mundo, recibió más de 5700 notificaciones de abandonos, un aumento del 32% respecto al mismo periodo de 2024.

Ese año culminó con un total de 22.500 casos notificados, un aumento de más del 7% respecto a 2023.
La mitad de los británicos posee una mascota
El encarecimiento de la vida se coloca en un dilema desgarrador a muchos británicos, en un país amante de los perros y los gatos. Más de la mitad de la población adulta tiene una mascota (unos 26 millones de personas), según RSPCA.
El personal del centro Mayhew explicó que algunos propietarios debían elegir entre comprar comida para ellos o para sus mascotas.

Algunos de los nuevos inquilinos de la protectora como Brownie, un caniche de un año, o Astro, un pequeño matón americano, ingresaron después de que sus propietarios perdieran sus casas por problemas financieros. Historias como estas son “las más tristes”, afirma Meucci-Lyons.
En tiempos difíciles, los propietarios “necesitan a sus mascotas más que nunca y el perro o el gato no quiere estar sin su dueño”, afirmó.
Los trabajadores de esta protectora en el barrio de Kensal Green observaron también el deterioro del estado de salud en algunos de los animales, a menudo porque sus dueños no pueden pagar al veterinario.
Un caso típico es el de Felix: un musculoso gato de nueve años que llegó con problemas dentales porque sus propietarios no podían permitirse el tratamiento. ”Vemos a muchas mascotas que necesitan tratamiento dental actualmente”, dijo la portavoz de Mayhew, Olivia Patt.
“Cada día es desgarrador”
La pandemia del covid y los confinamientos decretados por el gobierno provocaron un repunte en la propiedad de mascotas, seguido por una oleada de abandonos cuando los dueños volvieron a su vida normal. Todavía algunos devuelven mascotas adquiridas durante el encierro.

La inflación en Reino Unido superó el 11% en su punto más crítico, en octubre de 2022. Aunque luego se moderó, los precios de productos como el pienso para mascotas son un 25% más caros que antes de la pandemia.
El equipo del centro Mayhew intenta ayudar a los propietarios en apuros suministrándoles comida para los animales u ofreciéndoles tratamientos preventivos gratuitos. Pero la presión llevó al refugio al límite.
“Estamos desbordados, no damos abasto”, admitió Meucci-Lyons. Aunque los trabajadores se consuelan diciendo que están marcando la diferencia, “cada día es desgarrador”. “Vamos a la cama por las noches pensando en los perros y los gatos a los que no pudimos ayudar”, concluyó.

‘Christ is King’ under siege: Evangelicals warn phrase is being weaponized by hate groups
Leaders of a prominent research institute focused on identifying and predicting trends in misinformation said evangelical leaders are united in reclaiming the phrase «Christ is King» from far-right and far-left entities seeking to twist its meaning.
The Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) at Rutgers, which recently published studies showing how DEI training can fuel hostility and how political assassinations are gaining support online, was early in scientifically measuring the trend of online extremists hijacking the phrase, «Christ is King.»
«We were looking at a lot of different kinds of heated languages and arguments and this sort of look online for threat-actors in general,» the authors of a new March report told Fox News Digital.
«We noted that prevalence of the use of the term and a mismatch of the actors that were using it, that just didn’t make any sense. And we want to understand, like, what is the origin of this? Where did it come from?»
VANCE SAYS ‘JESUS IS KING’ AT WISCONSIN RALLY
Actors like Nick Fuentes, a far-right Holocaust denier and podcaster, were co-opting «Christ the King» to unify behind what they considered their righteous political mission, authors of the report said.
The institute said «Christ the King» resurged with Pope Pius XI’s 1925 institution of The Feast of Christ the King in response to nationalist and Communist ideologies undermining Christianity’s role in the West.
Instead of being the «spiritual guide,» the phrase has been co-opted by both human and «bot» actors to rally behind ideals counter to Judeo-Christianity.
«What was really fascinating is that the NCRI folks were in real-time tracking the bot activity,» said Rev. Johnnie Moore, a former commissioner for the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.
«The question was how much of this vicious, virulent antisemitism that emerged when we published the report were these bot-nets – It was north of 30% of all the activity … were these antisemitic bot-networks latching onto [Christ is King.]»
Canadian psychologist-commentator Dr. Jordan Peterson, who co-authored the report, said after the study was released in March, «the narcissists, hedonists and psychopaths occupy the fringes wherever they obtain power.»
«[A]nd using God’s name, attempt to subvert the power of the divine to their own devices. A warning – not everyone who says «Lord, Lord,» will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.»

The report found evidence of mass «manipulation tactics» and, beginning in 2021, more than 50% of engagements were driven by «extremist influencers» like Fuentes and kickboxer-turned-commentator Andrew Tate.
Moore noted Thursday that in addition to NCRI’s findings, evidence also surfaced after antisemitic protests exploded in New York and Los Angeles that there were reported social engagement connections to the Chinese Communist Party.
«It’s quite clear that people are trying to steal this phrase from us, and we’re saying no, it’s a Christian phrase,» Moore said. «You sure as anything can’t use it to spread hate against Jews.»
Moore, who had just left the White House’s Easter Dinner, where he said the administration also welcomed religion back to the sociopolitical fore, added that no matter how hard fringe elements try to co-opt Judeo-Christian slogans, the bloc is a force to be reckoned with.

He added that those on the far-right who believe their antisemitic tenets with a Christian-like righteousness often forget «there’s no Christianity without Judaism.»
«They’re losing their battle to Christianize antisemitism, because there’s just a sheer amount of Evangelicals in every country… we’re all pro-Israel.
Evangelical leader Robert Stearns said that Christians must not let «extremists hijack what belongs to God – ‘Christ is King’ is a cry of worship, not war.»
Meanwhile, Princeton jurisprudence professor Robby George told Fox News Digital that when you hear the phrase as a Christian, the proper response is, «Amen.»
«But if you hear someone say the same words as an antisemitic taunt, the correct reply is, ‘I stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters.’ Don’t be played,» the Catholic influencer said.
«What will happen at Easter is there will be countless millions of Christians all around the world that will be saying these words, and they only mean one thing, and it will drown out all of these people trying to steal our words to spread their hate,» Moore added.
