The war of words between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, appears to be over, and there are signs of some reconciliation.

However, a new poll suggests that the verbal attacks by Musk, who spent the first four months of Trump’s second administration as a special White House advisor steering the recently created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), have hurt his standing among Republicans.

Sixty-two percent of Republicans hold a favorable opinion of Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released on Wednesday.

That is down 16 points from a Quinnipiac survey in March, when 78% of Republicans viewed Musk in a favorable way.

TRUMP SAYS HE’S OPEN TO RECONCILING WITH MUSK 

Among all voters, 30% held a favorable opinion of Musk, with 57% viewing him unfavorably. Favorable opinions of Musk dropped six points from Quinnipiac’s March survey, with the unfavorable rating holding steady.

Musk went all in for Trump last summer and autumn. He endorsed the then-GOP presidential nominee in July right after the assassination attempt against Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Musk became the top donor of the 2024 election cycle, dishing out nearly $300 million in support of Trump’s bid through America PAC, a mostly Musk-funded super PAC aligned with Trump.

Trump named Musk to steer DOGE soon after the November election, and the president repeatedly praised Musk during his headline-making and controversial tenure at DOGE.

The feud broke out days after Musk left the White House late last month, as he dubbed the administration’s massive landmark spending bill – which Trump calls his «big, beautiful bill» – a «disgusting abomination,» which he said would sink the nation into unsustainable debt.

Musk also argued that Trump would not have won last year’s presidential election without all his support.

Trump and Musk traded fire with blistering social media posts, with Musk even claiming without evidence that the government was concealing information about Trump’s association with infamous pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Musk later deleted the post.

Musk on Wednesday wrote on his well-watched X account, «I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.»

Trump said in a podcast interview with the New York Post that was published on Wednesday that «things like that happen. I don’t blame him for anything.»

However, when asked about Musk’s apology as he spoke with reporters later in the day, the president said «I really haven’t thought too much about it.»

During his months at DOGE, Musk aimed, but fell far short, of trimming $2 trillion from the federal government’s budget.

According to the Quinnipiac poll, 38% of voters said that Musk did an excellent or good job at DOGE, with 57% describing his tenure as not so good or poor.

However, 80% of Republicans questioned said Musk’s work was excellent or good, with just 13% viewing his tenure at DOGE as not so good or poor.

«Though Musk isn’t as popular with Republicans as he once was, he and DOGE get a hearty high five from a healthy majority of Republicans,» Quinnpiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy said in a statement.

The Quinnipiac poll was conducted June 5-9, with 1,265 registered voters across the country questioned. The survey’s overall sampling error is plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.

Testigos presenciales relataron que el avión “cayó abruptamente tras el despegue” y terminó chocando contra oficinas y viviendas, lo que multiplicó el número de víctimas.

El Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner que operaba Air India está configurado con 256 a 259 asientos distribuidos en dos clases. La cabina Business tiene 18 asientos con servicio gastronómico y entretenimiento personalizado, mientras que la clase económica ofrece 238 plazas con servicios básicos, pantallas individuales y cargadores para dispositivos.

El único sobreviviente, hallado en el asiento 11A, viajaba en clase económica. Aunque aún no se ha difundido detalles sobre su estado de salud, el sobreviviente fue identificado como Viswashkumar Ramesh de ciudadanía británica.

Los rescatistas describieron que esa zona de la aeronave, si bien severamente dañada, no fue completamente destruida como ocurrió con las filas posteriores, que resultaron carbonizadas por el impacto y el incendio subsiguiente. Los técnicos que trabajan en el análisis del fuselaje sostienen que el área cercana a las alas, donde se encuentra la fila 11, recibió parte del impacto pero no se desintegró totalmente, lo que podría haber salvado su vida.

Horas después del siniestro, Air India emitió un breve comunicado confirmando que su vuelo había estado “involucrado en un incidente”, y más tarde, su presidente, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, confirmó que se trataba de un “trágico accidente”.

“Con profundo pesar confirmo que el vuelo 171 de Air India que operaba Ahmedabad – Londres Gatwick ha sufrido hoy un trágico accidente. Nuestros pensamientos y más profundas condolencias están con las familias y seres queridos de todos los afectados por este devastador suceso”, expresó Chandrasekaran, y anunció que la aerolínea activó un centro de emergencia y un equipo de apoyo para asistir a los familiares de las víctimas.

Por su parte, Boeing, fabricante del modelo siniestrado, expresó en redes sociales: “Estamos en contacto con Air India en relación con el vuelo 171 y estamos listos para brindarles apoyo. Acompañamos en el sentimiento a los pasajeros, la tripulación, el personal de primera respuesta y a todos los afectados”.

La compañía estadounidense no ofreció detalles técnicos ni hipótesis sobre las causas, aunque se espera que colabore en la investigación junto con las autoridades indias. En medio de la incertidumbre, las acciones de Boeing cayeron un 8% en las operaciones previas a la apertura del mercado estadounidense, reflejo del impacto inmediato que la tragedia ha tenido en la industria aeronáutica global.

This is more than a momentary victory: under Israeli law, the bill’s failure means that no other proposal to dissolve the Knesset (parliament) can be introduced for six months, buying Netanyahu and his coalition some time.

NETANYAHU COALITION THREATENED BY CONSCRIPTION STANDOFF WITH RELIGIOUS PARTIES

Ultra-Orthodox lawmakers had threatened to dissolve the government amid a deadlock over exemptions to military service. According to the Associated Press, most of the ultra-Orthodox members of the Knesset agreed to vote against the bill after reaching a compromise with MK Yuli Edelstein, who leads the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. Discussions about the new draft law will reportedly continue over the coming week.

Edelstein has been a vocal opponent of any bill that would enshrine the ultra-Orthodox military service exemption into Israeli law, according to the Times of Israel.

NETANYAHU ACCUSES ISRAELI POLICE OF TRYING TO ‘TOPPLE’ HIS GOVERNMENT

While Israel requires citizens to enlist in the military at age 18, several groups are exempt—including the ultra-Orthodox community, also known as Haredim—which makes up roughly 13% of Israeli society, according to the Associated Press.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have Haredi units, which allow soldiers to follow religious traditions more strictly than other parts of the army. However, many Haredim choose to study Torah instead.

Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Yair Lapid said the government «spat in the faces» of Israeli soldiers and «sold out our troops» with the compromise, the Times of Israel reported. The outlet added that Edelstein stated that the only way to get an «effective bill like this leading to an expansion of the IDF’s conscription base» would be through his committee.

The issue of religious exemption has been a debate among Israelis for decades, but it has become especially heated since Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre.

Israel is currently fighting the longest war in its history as the country marks 20 months of its ground operation in Gaza. Israelis from all walks of life have been called up to the reserves throughout the war, fueling frustration with the Haredi community’s exemption.
