Global calls to avoid escalation pour in after Israeli strikes on Iran

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Much of the world voiced concern on Friday following Israel’s early-morning strikes on over 100 targets in Iran, urging both nations to avoid further escalation.
Iran responded with a drone counterattack, and Israel declared the strikes were only the first wave in a broader campaign to thwart Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that Israel acted unilaterally, stating the U.S. was not involved in the strikes, while President Donald Trump warned Iran the next round of Israeli attacks would be «even more brutal.»

Iran
Iran’s foreign minister called the attacks a «declaration of war» and claimed the U.S. was involved. Israel’s «aggression against Iran could not have been carried out without the coordination and approval of the United States,» Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi said.
«Consequently, the U.S. government, as the primary patron of this regime, will also bear responsibility for the dangerous repercussions of the Zionist regime’s reckless actions,» the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.
Saudi Arabia
The Kingdom strongly condemned Israel’s actions, calling them a violation of international law.
«The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the blatant Israeli aggressions against the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran,» its Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. «These attacks undermine Iran’s sovereignty and security and constitute a clear violation of international laws and norms.»
Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan spoke with Araghchi, stating, «His Highness affirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of the use of force and stressed the importance of dialogue to address disputes. The Israeli attack undermines efforts toward de-escalation and diplomatic solutions.»
Efforts by the U.S. to broker a normalization deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia had already stalled due to the war in Gaza.

Sa’ar told German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul, «We made this decision at the last possible moment, after all other avenues had been exhausted. The world saw that Iran was not ready to stop. The latest IAEA report illustrates serious Iranian violations. We know challenging days lie ahead, but we have no other choice.»

«France has repeatedly condemned Iran’s ongoing nuclear program and has taken all appropriate diplomatic measures in response,» French President Emmanuel Macron said Friday.
«In this context, France reaffirms Israel’s right to defend itself and ensure its security. To avoid jeopardizing the stability of the entire region, I call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to de-escalate.»
United Kingdom
Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the Israeli strikes «concerning» and urged all parties to step back and reduce tensions.
Czech Republic
Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský expressed sympathy for Israel’s position. «Iran has long failed to meet its international obligations and continues building its nuclear program while voicing threats against Israel. I understand the need for military action to deter nuclear development in the region.»
Russia
«Unprovoked military strikes against a sovereign U.N. member state, its citizens, peaceful cities, and nuclear energy infrastructure are categorically unacceptable,» the Russian Foreign Ministry said, according to Reuters.

Israel says it has aerial superiority over Tehran, Iranian intelligence leader killed

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
The Israeli military claimed to have obtained «aerial superiority» over Tehran on Monday, as airstrikes launched by the Jewish state killed four senior Iranian intelligence officials.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it has degraded Iranian air defenses and missile systems to the point that Israeli planes can now operate over Tehran without facing major threats. It said Israel now controls the skies from western Iran to Tehran.
According to the Israeli military, «precise intelligence» from the IDF allowed Israeli Air Force (IAF) fighter jets to strike a structure in Tehran where several senior officials from Iranian intelligence were located. The strike eliminated Head of the Intelligence Organization Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Mohammad Kazemi, his deputy Mohammad Hassan Mohaqiq, Head of the Quds Force Intelligence Directorate Mohsen Bakri, and his deputy Abu al-Fadl Nikouei, the IDF said Monday.

«These officials played a central role in shaping Iran’s strategic assessments and planning terrorist attacks against Israel, the West, and countries in the Middle East,» the IDF said.
Kazemi, who has held the position since 2022, «was responsible for counterintelligence, espionage, and targeting opponents of the Iranian regime within Iran,» according to the IDF. «In his role, Kazemi oversaw intelligence gathering for terrorist activities and the monitoring of Iranian citizens to suppress dissent and preserve the Iranian regime.»
The Israeli military said Hassan Mohaqiq «previously chaired the Strategic Intelligence Department and played a key role in the regime’s terrorist operations against Israel, the West, and countries in the Middle East.»
Bakri and al-Fadl Nikouei «were primarily responsible for operational and intelligence support to members of the Iran’s Axis of Terror, including Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and militias in Iraq,» and they both «played a significant role in Iran’s efforts to reestablish its presence in Syria and supported Hezbollah’s military buildup in Lebanon,» the IDF said.

Monday’s announcement «marks a significant blow to the Iranian regime’s intelligence apparatus and its ability to carry out terrorist attacks against the State of Israel,» the IDF said. This comes after the IDF said its strikes killed the Head of the Intelligence Directorate in the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff last Friday.
The IDF has destroyed one-third of the Iranian regime’s missile launchers since first launching its large-scale preemptive strike last Thursday, IDF spokesperson, Brigadier General Effie Defrin, said Monday.
The IAF destroyed more than 20 surface-to-surface missiles Sunday night before they were about to be launched toward the State of Israel, Defrin said.
Israel’s air force completed several waves of strikes overnight, targeting approximately 100 military targets in Isfahan in central Iran.
«In these strikes, more than 20 missiles were simultaneously struck, minutes before they were to be launched toward Israel’s home front,» Defrin said. «In one of the strikes, after a missile launch cell was identified in real-time attempting to launch surface-to-surface missiles toward the State of Israel, the IAF eliminated the launch cell and destroyed the missiles.»

Meanwhile, Iran fired a new wave of missile attacks on Israel early Monday, triggering air raid sirens across the country. Israeli emergency services reported at least eight killed and dozens more wounded in the fourth day of the conflict.
Powerful explosions, likely from Israel’s defense systems intercepting Iranian missiles, rocked Tel Aviv shortly before dawn, according to the Associated Press. Plumes of black smoke rose into the sky over the major coastal city.

Trump heads to Canada for first G7 conference, continues focus on Israel as 22nd week back in office kicks off

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
President Donald Trump is expected to have a busy 22nd week back in the Oval Office after celebrating his 79th birthday and attending a massive military parade honoring the Army’s 250th anniversary over the weekend, including traveling to Canada on Sunday for his first G7 summit since his inauguration.

Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran
Trump’s week is expected to largely focus on the Middle East after Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran on Thursday evening after months of attempted and stalled nuclear negotiations and subsequent heightened concern that Iran was advancing its nuclear program.

The strikes, which were part of Israel’s «Operation Rising Lion,» targeted Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure and killed at least four Iranian military leaders.
Iran said the strikes were a «declaration of war» and has subsequently launched its own strikes on Israel, which have rocked residential communities and left locals killed and buried under the rubble of buildings.
Trump reported on Thursday that the U.S. was made aware ahead of Israel’s initial strikes before they occurred, and he has repeatedly underscored that he wants to reach a nuclear deal with Iran to end the «death and destruction.»
«I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them, in the strongest of words, to ‘just do it,’ but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn’t get it done. I told them it would be much worse than anything they know, anticipated, or were told, that the United States makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and that Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come – And they know how to use it,» Trump posted to Truth Social on Friday.

«Certain Iranian hardliner’s spoke bravely, but they didn’t know what was about to happen. They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse!» he added.
Iran, however, pulled out of nuclear talks with the U.S. that were scheduled for Sunday in Oman.

Trump has continued to push for Iran to make a deal, outlining in a Truth Social post on Sunday that he will use trade with the U.S. to leverage a deal between Israel and Iran while citing previous examples of how his intervention led to peace between other nations.

«During my first term, Serbia and Kosovo were going at it hot and heavy, as they have for many decades, and this long time conflict was ready to break out into WAR,» he posted. «I stopped it (Biden has hurt the longer term prospects with some very stupid decisions, but I will fix it, again!). Another case is Egypt and Ethiopia, and their fight over a massive dam that is having an effect on the magnificent Nile River. There is peace, at least for now, because of my intervention, and it will stay that way! Likewise, we will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place. I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!»

Riots broke out in Los Angeles on June 6, when federal law enforcement officials converged on the city to conduct immigration raids. Local elected Democrat officials, such as Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, condemned the raids while offering words of support to illegal immigrants. The riots spiraled throughout the week as agitators targeted police with heavy objects, looted stores, set cars on fire and shut down highways.

On Saturday, «No Kings Day» protests were held in cities nationwide as critics of the president took to the streets to argue that Trump has conducted himself like a monarch. The protests were held on the same day as the massive military parade in Washington, D.C., that honored the Army’s 250th anniversary, which fell on the same day as Flag Day and Trump’s 79th birthday.
