Trump admin makes new move to bring South African refugees to US as president blasts nation’s rulers again

FIRST ON FOX: The U.S. and South African groups have started to take action to «improve» the lives of Afrikaners, descendants of white, mostly Dutch settlers, after President Donald Trump said they could settle in the U.S. as refugees.
On Friday, President Trump lashed out again against the South African government for its treatment of farmers, many, but not all of whom, are Afrikaners, positing on his Truth Social media platform via X, «they are taking the land of white Farmers, and then killing them and their families.»
The State Department told Fox News Digital about new moves it is making. At the same time, the Afrikaner Orania Movement, an Afrikaner settlement, has stated its desire to be treated by the U.S. as a state within a state in South Africa.

This has led to often heated discussions about Afrikaners, and, up until now, no details from the U.S. side. But now there’s real movement, not just talk, taking place.
«The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria (South Africa) is reviewing inquiries from individuals who have expressed interest to the Embassy in refugee resettlement to the United States and has begun reaching out to some individuals to schedule and conduct informational interviews,» the State Department told Fox News Digital.
According to the nongovernmental South African Chamber of Commerce in the U.S., as of last month, 67,042 South Africans have expressed interest in the refugee offer, but the State Department told Fox News digital, «We do not have anything to share on numbers of participants at this stage of the process.»
There’s also been a flurry of flights across the Atlantic to Washington by groups looking to get the White House’s, and ultimately the president’s, attention.
First was the political group AfriForum, widely credited with alerting President Trump to the need for «humanitarian relief» for Afrikaners.
Among other organizations making the trek to D.C. was the Cape Independence Advocacy Group, which says Cape Town and some of the surrounding areas should become a state separate from the rest of South Africa.
But perhaps the Orania Movement’s trip to Washington, and its request for U.S. help, is of most interest.
«Help us Here,» is the slogan Orania CEO Joost Strydom declared to Washington insiders.

Orania is a small but rapidly growing settlement of 3,000 Afrikaners in South Africa’s Karoo region. Strydom told Fox News Digital those settlers don’t want to become refugees in the U.S. but are seeking Washington’s support to become truly autonomous in Africa «not necessarily with U.S. tax dollars, but with recognition with our pursuit of a national home for Afrikaners.
«Orania’s goal is to grow and protect the safety and freedom of Afrikaners. If we can make decisions for ourselves, we can look after our own safety and prosperity. If we are free, we are safe.
«We are a people of Africa, we belong here. We have no other home. On a personal note, my great-grandfather came to Africa in 1676, 100 years before the U.S. declaration of independence.»
Founded in 1988, Orania claims it’s entirely white, Afrikaner population is growing at an average of 10-12% a year, with a growth in business projects of 26%. It has its own water purification and solar power systems. In one of the driest parts of South Africa, Orania’s farmers are successfully developing corn, wheat, pecan nuts, almonds and livestock.
Orania has built its own Afrikaans language schools and a college and has plans to open its own university.

The Orania delegation went to Washington, Strydom said, due to «the fact that President Donald Trump gave us recognition as a people, the Afrikaners. (It) made it very important for us to hasten our already-planned U.S. liaison tour to liaise with Afrikaner and American supporters of the Orania idea in the U.S.

«We had meetings with officials upon invitation and discussed substantive matters in depth, which, for the sake of an ongoing conversation and our honor towards newfound contacts, we will only specify publicly later.»
The South African government has attacked those who have gone knocking on Washington’s doors.
«These groups do not represent the majority of South Africans, whether it’s the Orania movement or it’s AfriForum or it’s this Cape Independence Advocacy,» the presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya told reporters March 20.
The State Department spokesperson made the administration’s viewpoint clear to Fox News Digital this week.
«Through his executive order, the president has taken steps to hold the government of South Africa accountable for the violation of Afrikaner rights and has instructed the administration to prioritize humanitarian relief for Afrikaners who are victims of unjust racial discrimination,» the spokesperson said.

Hanli Pieters, who works at Bo-Karoo Opleiding, Orania’s college, is proud of being an Afrikaner and told Fox News Digital she wants to stay in Orania.
«I choose to live in Orania because it offers what so few places can — a safe and purposeful future for Afrikaners. Here, I can live, pray without fear and speak Afrikaans not as a formality, but as the heartbeat of my daily life. We take hands as a community to build, to work and to grow. Orania is where Afrikaner identity becomes legacy.»
Fox News Digital reached out to the South African government for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.

Tensión en Bolivia: Luis Arce acusó a Evo Morales de buscar su renuncia para forzar su candidatura presidencial
El presidente de Bolivia, Luis Arce, acusó públicamente al ex mandatario Evo Morales de intentar forzar su salida del poder mediante bloqueos de carreteras, con el fin de habilitarse como candidato a las elecciones generales del próximo 17 de agosto, a pesar de que la Constitución boliviana prohíbe una nueva reelección.
“El único objetivo que tienen (pidiendo) que yo renuncie es para que se dé una sucesión presidencial entre comillas y él pueda habilitarse nuevamente como candidato”, declaró Arce este domingo en la región de Cochabamba, epicentro de las protestas organizadas por sectores leales a Morales. En sus declaraciones, el mandatario subrayó que una eventual renuncia no solucionaría los problemas estructurales del país, que identificó en la falta de financiamiento externo bloqueado en el Legislativo por legisladores afines a Morales y la oposición.
Para Arce, los bloqueos son parte de un “plan estratégico” cuyo fin es “pisotear la Constitución”. “Nosotros lo hemos criticado, lo hemos dicho con claridad y ese ha sido el motivo para que se estrelle contra el Gobierno”, afirmó. Según el mandatario, Morales estaría dispuesto a reproducir los escenarios de crisis que marcaron los comicios anulados de 2019, cuando su intento de reelección derivó en una ola de protestas, su salida del país y la posterior asunción de un gobierno interino.
Arce enfatizó que no se postulará para un nuevo mandato y llamó a Morales a no arriesgar vidas por intereses personales. “Tuvimos un golpe de Estado por el capricho de una reelección, hay que decirlo con claridad, ha habido muertes en el país producto de ese capricho. No vamos a volver a repetir esos errores que conducen nada más que al luto de las familias bolivianas”, afirmó.
Desde el lunes anterior, grupos afines a Morales mantienen bloqueos viales principalmente en el departamento de Cochabamba, con el objetivo declarado de forzar la renuncia de Arce. Las protestas también exigen que Morales pueda postularse.
El Gobierno boliviano informó que, hasta el momento, los bloqueos han dejado más de 50 heridos, entre ellos efectivos policiales, personal médico y civiles. Las autoridades también denuncian que los manifestantes han obstaculizado el paso de ambulancias, alimentos y combustible, lo que ha provocado tensiones adicionales en varias regiones.
En respuesta, el Ejecutivo ha ordenado que las Fuerzas Armadas apoyen a la Policía Nacional en las operaciones de desbloqueo. Arce aseguró que las acciones buscan restablecer el tránsito “sin que haya muertos”. Hasta ahora, el despliegue militar se ha concentrado en desbloqueos parciales y en el resguardo de infraestructuras estratégicas.
Por su parte, Evo Morales, quien gobernó Bolivia durante tres mandatos consecutivos entre 2006 y 2019, declaró que esta semana será “decisiva” para la movilización social. En un mensaje publicado este domingo, afirmó que su lucha es contra el “imperio” y contra el ex presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, a quien acusa de haber interferido en la política boliviana para evitar su retorno al poder.
Morales ha insistido en que su candidatura debe ser habilitada, pese a que el Tribunal Constitucional Plurinacional (TCP) reafirmó recientemente que la reelección presidencial solo está permitida una vez de forma continua. Esa restricción constitucional fue ratificada luego de que el propio TCP habilitara su candidatura en 2019, a pesar del referendo de 2016 en el que la mayoría del electorado rechazó una modificación constitucional que le habría permitido postularse nuevamente.
El distanciamiento entre Morales y Arce se profundizó desde fines de 2021. Morales abandonó formalmente su militancia en el MAS, partido que lideró durante casi tres décadas, luego de perder el control político sobre su estructura y de confrontar con la actual administración. Desde entonces, ha impulsado una línea política paralela con apoyo de sectores sindicales y campesinos que exigen su regreso a la presidencia.

«Using an international civilian communication system, the Israeli Navy has instructed the ‘selfie yacht’ to change its course due to its approach toward a restricted area,» a post from the ministry read.
The video shows a Navy officer telling them that the maritime of the Gaza coast is closed to traffic. She instructs the activists on board that they must deliver aid through established channels.
The Israel Foreign Ministry said the passengers were «safe and unharmed» and had been provided sandwiches and water.
«The show is over,» the ministry said.
Israel had vowed to stop the so-called Freedom Flotilla Coalition in the days leading up to its arrival.

The groups’ aim was to reach the shores of the Gaza Strip to bring in some aid and raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis there.
According to the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, the aid on the ship was less than a single truckload.

«The tiny amount of aid that was on the yacht and not consumed by the ‘celebrities’ will be transferred to Gaza through real humanitarian channels,» the ministry said.

El régimen de Irán amenazó con tomar “fuertes represalias” si el OIEA aprueba alguna resolución en su contra
El régimen de Irán advirtió que tomará represalias y reducirá significativamente su nivel de cooperación con el Organismo Internacional de Energía Atómica (OIEA) si la Junta de Gobernadores de dicha entidad aprueba una resolución en su contra. La medida, impulsada por el Reino Unido, Francia y Alemania —con apoyo de Estados Unidos—, podría intensificar aún más las tensiones sobre el programa nuclear iraní, cuya naturaleza pacífica no puede ser confirmada por el organismo de la ONU.
“Ciertamente, el OIEA no debe esperar que la República Islámica continúe su amplia y amistosa cooperación”, declaró el portavoz de la Organización de Energía Atómica de Irán, Behrouz Kamalvandi, en una entrevista con la televisión estatal iraní. El funcionario confirmó que su país ha preparado una lista de medidas técnicas y diplomáticas en respuesta a una eventual resolución crítica por parte del organismo.
En el centro de la disputa se encuentra el nivel de enriquecimiento de uranio que ha alcanzado Irán. Según el último informe técnico del OIEA, publicado el 31 de mayo, Teherán casi duplicó entre febrero y mayo la producción de uranio enriquecido al 60 %, acumulando 408,6 kilogramos, un nivel muy cercano al requerido para el uso militar. La agencia sostiene que “la rápida acumulación de uranio altamente enriquecido es motivo de grave preocupación” y ha dificultado las inspecciones técnicas.
El informe advierte además que Irán no ha proporcionado respuestas “técnicamente creíbles” sobre la presencia de material nuclear no declarado en al menos tres sitios específicos: Lavisan-Shian, Varamin y Turquzabad. En dichos lugares, el gobierno iraní habría realizado limpiezas que obstaculizaron las verificaciones del organismo.
“El Organismo no está en condiciones de garantizar que el programa nuclear de Irán sea exclusivamente pacífico”, concluyó el OIEA en su evaluación, y subrayó que, a pesar de ciertos avances en temas rutinarios de salvaguardias, la cooperación iraní ha sido “menos que satisfactoria” en los temas sustantivos.
Frente a la posibilidad de una nueva resolución crítica, Abás Araqchí, ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Irán, escribió en la red social X que “Irán reaccionará enérgicamente contra cualquier violación de sus derechos”. Acusó al E3 —como se conoce al grupo formado por Reino Unido, Alemania y Francia— de “optar por una acción maligna” en lugar de actuar de buena fe. “Acusar falsamente a Irán de violar las salvaguardias, basándose en información de mala calidad y politizada, está claramente diseñado para provocar una crisis”, afirmó el diplomático.
Estas advertencias llegan días antes de la reunión de la Junta de Gobernadores del OIEA, que comenzará este 9 de junio en Viena. En esta instancia, los Estados miembros evaluarán el informe de 22 páginas elaborado por el organismo, que repasa las actividades e inspecciones realizadas en Irán durante los últimos años.
En caso de aprobarse una resolución de condena, esta podría ser remitida al Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, que tendría la facultad de reactivar sanciones internacionales suspendidas bajo el acuerdo nuclear de 2015.
Ese pacto, conocido como el Plan de Acción Integral Conjunto (JCPOA), fue abandonado unilateralmente por Estados Unidos en 2018 bajo la administración de Donald Trump. Desde entonces, Irán ha ido reduciendo progresivamente su cumplimiento de los compromisos nucleares, especialmente tras la imposición de nuevas sanciones económicas por parte de Washington.
Desde el 12 de abril, Teherán y Washington han sostenido cinco rondas de conversaciones indirectas en Omán, con el objetivo de restablecer un marco de control sobre el programa nuclear iraní. Sin embargo, las diferencias siguen siendo significativas. Estados Unidos exige que Irán detenga su enriquecimiento de uranio a niveles cercanos al umbral militar, mientras que Irán reclama garantías sobre el levantamiento de sanciones y el respeto a sus derechos soberanos.
En su intervención pública del domingo, Kamalvandi recordó que Irán ya ha reaccionado con firmeza en el pasado ante medidas similares. “Multiplicamos por siete la producción de enriquecimiento al 60 %” tras la aprobación de una resolución crítica en noviembre de 2024, indicó. En esa ocasión, Teherán también reactivó miles de centrifugadoras avanzadas como señal de desafío.
El director general del OIEA, Rafael Grossi, reiteró este sábado su “llamamiento urgente a Irán para que coopere plena y eficazmente con el Organismo”. Advirtió que sin dicha colaboración, el OIEA no podrá verificar si el material nuclear no declarado fue utilizado, mezclado con otro material o permanece fuera del control de salvaguardias internacionales.
