White House rips alleged Pentagon leakers’ ‘shattered egos,’ brushes off Hegseth second Signal chat report

Published

The White House hit back at recent news reports detailing Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s reported involvement in a second Signal group chat where he discussed military strikes on Yemen as a «nonstory» while also slamming recently fired Department of Defense staffers.

«No matter how many times the legacy media tries to resurrect the same nonstory, they can’t change the fact that no classified information was shared,» White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly told Fox News Digital Monday morning. «Recently fired ‘leakers’ are continuing to misrepresent the truth to soothe their shattered egos and undermine the President’s agenda, but the administration will continue to hold them accountable.»

Kelly’s response followed Fox News Digital inquiring about media reports Sunday reporting that Hegseth was part of another Signal group chat that allegedly included his wife, personal attorney and brother where he discussed upcoming military strikes on Yemen. The chat was reportedly created by Hegseth, the New York Times reported Sunday, citing four people will knowledge of the chat.

Hegseth also brushed off the reporting on the Signal chat Monday, blaming it on «disgruntled employees» and «anonymous smears.»

«This is why we’re fighting the fake news media,» he said when pressed on the chat by reporters at the White House Easter Egg roll. «This group right here is full of hoaxsters.»

Hegseth gestured to his wife and children and said he was there to enjoy the day with them. He added that he had spoken to Trump and planned to keep fighting all the way.

The Trump administration came under scrutiny from Democrats and other critics after the Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, revealed in an article published March 24 that he was added to a Signal group chat with top national security leaders, including Hegseth, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, discussing upcoming military strikes in Yemen.

The Atlantic’s report characterized the Trump administration as texting «war plans» regarding a planned strike on Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The Trump administration has maintained, however, that no classified material was transmitted in the chat, with Trump repeatedly defending Waltz amid the fallout. The strikes on Houthi rebels unfolded on March 15.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told the media in March that the White House considered the Signal group chat leak case «closed» while continuing to offer support to Waltz, whose office allegedly mistakenly added the journalist to the chat.

«As the president has made it very clear, Mike Waltz continues to be an important part of his national security team,» Leavitt told the media in brief remarks during a gaggle outside of the White House’s press room March 31. «And this case has been closed here at the White House, as far as we are concerned.»

«There have been steps made to ensure that something like that can obviously never happen again,» she continued. «And we’re moving forward. And the president and Mike Waltz and his entire national security team have been working together very well, if you look at how much safer the United States of America is because of the leadership of this team.»

PENTAGON DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF IS SECOND HEGSETH ADVISOR REMOVED AMID DOD LEAK PROBE

Reports of a second Signal chat involving Hegseth follows highly publicized departures at the Pentagon last week following leaks.

Top aides to Hegseth were placed on leave and escorted out of the building as the Pentagon probed unauthorized leaks: Senior Advisor Dan Caldwell, Deputy Chief of Staff Darin Selnick and Colin Carroll, chief of staff to Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg.

On Friday evening, those three employees were fired, two defense officials confirmed to Fox News Digital, along with Chief of Staff Joe Kasper.

Another press aide, John Ullyot, parted ways with the Pentagon because he did not want to be second-in-command of the communications shop.

Officials denied that the three men were placed on leave because of their foreign policy views and said they saw no connection to their positions on Iran and Israel — even as reports surfaced that President Donald Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the Pentagon would not intervene if Israel attacked Iran.

Ullyot notably published a scathing opinion piece in Politco Sunday predicting Hegseth would not remain as secretary of defense.

«It’s been a month of total chaos at the Pentagon,» he wrote. «From leaks of sensitive operational plans to mass firings, the dysfunction is now a major distraction for the president — who deserves better from his senior leadership.»

«President Donald Trump has a strong record of holding his top officials to account,» he wrote. «Given that, it’s hard to see Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth remaining in his role for much longer.»

Ukraine targets bridge linking Russia to Crimea with massive underwater blast, video shows

A massive underwater blast targeting a bridge linking Russia to Crimea left it in a «state of emergency» Tuesday, according to the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU).

The surprise detonation comes just days after Ukraine carried out «Operation Spider’s Web,» a series of coordinated drone strikes penetrating deep into Russian territory that is believed to have taken out dozens of Russia’s most powerful bomber jets and surveillance planes as they sat idle on five military airfields.

«Illegal objects of the Russian Federation have no place on the territory of our state. The Crimean Bridge is therefore an absolutely legitimate target, especially given that the enemy used it as a logistical artery to secure their troops,» SBU Lt. Gen. Vasily Malyuk said in a statement. «Crimea is Ukraine, and any manifestations of the occupation will receive our harsh response.»

The SBU said it detonated around 2,500 pounds of underwater explosives along the Kerch Bridge. Footage showed a blast centered around one of the bridge pillars, followed by people surveying damage on top of the bridge.

Published

on

Poco probable.

Jasmine Crockett agrees during town hall that ‘Republicans want poor people to die’

Published

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, agreed that «Republicans want poor people to die as quickly as humanly possible,» during a town hall event on Monday.

The live town hall, hosted by Jim Acosta of CNN, featured actress Rosie O’Donnell, CNN contributor and former Capitol police officer Michael Fanone and former Trump administration official Olivia Troye. Crockett, dubbed a rising Democratic Party star, was the headliner.

Acosta told the panel he was «astounded» by Sen. Joni Ernst’s town hall comment last week that, «We all are going to die,» when discussing Medicaid reform.

«I’m thinking to myself, isn’t the point of healthcare to postpone that as long as possible, like, we don’t want that to happen, isn’t that the point?» Acosta asked.

Fanone, who gained national attention for his role defending the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and is now an analyst for CNN, said, «Republicans want poor people to die as quickly as humanly possible.»

«I agree,» Crockett responded. «I don’t think that is a glitch, but that’s actually part of the design.»

Ernst said, «We all are going to die,» during a contentious moment at her town hall in Iowa. She was explaining that Medicaid reform will only remove people who do not qualify for benefits – illegal immigrants, able-bodied Americans who can work but choose not to, those ineligible to receive benefits who are currently receiving benefits, and duplicate enrollees in one or more states.

But Ernst was interrupted by a rowdy crowd, including one attendee who shouted, «People will die!» prompting her comment that drove Acosta’s town hall conversation on Monday.

Joni Ernst

«The idea that you’ve got someone who has the audacity to say to people that sent her into D.C. to work on their behalf that you’re going to die,» Crockett said Monday as the crowd erupted in cheers. «I think we all know that, but the reality is that you’ve decided that you want to be a gravedigger, and I don’t think that is who they elected you to be. They elected you to actually breathe life into it.»

Crockett did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment, but an Ernst spokesperson dismissed Crockett’s criticism as «fearmongering.»

«While Democrats fearmonger against strengthening the integrity of Medicaid, Sen. Ernst is focused on improving the lives of all Iowans. There’s only two certainties in life: death and taxes, and she’s working to ease the burden of both by fighting to keep more of Iowans’ hard-earned tax dollars in their own pockets and ensuring their benefits are protected from waste, fraud and abuse,» an Ernst spokesperson said.

Crockett is considering a run to lead the House Oversight Committee, which is responsible for holding President Donald Trump accountable as leader of the executive branch.

Earlier this year, Attorney General Pam Bondi accused Crockett of «threatening lives» and said she should apologize for her rhetoric against Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for saying, «All I want to see happen on my birthday is for Elon to be taken down.» Crockett would clarify that her comments were intended as «nonviolent» resistance.

Crockett was also criticized this year for calling Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, who is in a wheelchair, «Governor Hot Wheels.» She walked back the comments after her remarks went viral, calling the outrage a «distraction.»
