NATO ally pushes ‘Fort Trump’ US military base as Russian helicopter penetrates airspace

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has revived a proposal to establish a permanent U.S. military base in Poland named «Fort Trump» as Warsaw pushes to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank amid continued Russian incursions into allied airspace.

Nawrocki said that he was confident Warsaw and Washington would reach a deal on the base, which Poland has sought as part of its effort to secure a long-term American troop presence and boost defenses against Russia.

«I hope that when work on the base is completed, President Trump will be able to personally attend the inauguration of ‘Fort Trump,’» Nawrocki said in New York Sept. 22.

The proposal dates back to 2018, when Nawrocki’s predecessor, President Andrzej Duda, suggested naming a permanent U.S. military installation in Poland «Fort Trump» as part of an effort to secure a lasting American military presence in the country.

The urgency behind Warsaw’s push this month was underscored within hours of Nawrocki’s remarks in New York, when a Russian Mi-8 military helicopter briefly penetrated Polish airspace from Russia’s Kaliningrad region.

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski also mentioned the issue during a briefing with Polish media following his address to the U.N. Security Council in New York on Wednesday.

According to the Polish Army Operational Command, the helicopter entered Polish territory north of the town of Braniewo at 11:08 a.m., reaching a maximum depth of about 300 meters.

The Russian aircraft remained in Polish airspace for 42 seconds before exiting.

Polish radar systems tracked the helicopter throughout the incursion, prompting fighter aircraft to scramble while ground-based air defense units were placed on standby.

Polish military authorities said the brief violation indicated Moscow was once again testing the readiness and response times of NATO air defenses.

The incident adds urgency to Poland’s push for a permanent U.S. military base. Nawrocki acknowledged that specific deadlines have not yet been established because administrative and financial details are unresolved.

«It’s hard for me to give specific dates, but I think this matter has been definitively confirmed, because President Trump is known for keeping his word,» Nawrocki said.

«Infrastructure preparation is progressing. In fact, the appropriate infrastructure is already being selected,» he told Bloomberg.

Nawrocki also called the establishment of the base «only a matter of time» and seemed optimistic that construction could be completed before Trump’s term ends in 2029.

Deputy Defense Minister Stanisław Wziątek had also mentioned establishing the U.S. base, with the remaining question being the precise location, according to reports.

Wziątek said the installation would likely host between 3,000 and 5,000 U.S. troops.

Poland ultimately hopes to host «around 15,000» American troops, building on the roughly 10,000 U.S. troops currently stationed in the country, largely on a rotational basis.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned Sept. 18 that, according to intelligence available to Warsaw, Russia was planning drone and missile strikes against eastern NATO countries that Moscow could present as accidental, The Associated Press reported.

Russian drones have repeatedly entered NATO airspace and crashed on alliance territory, including in Poland and Romania, while NATO countries have scrambled fighter aircraft in response to Russian aerial activity near their borders over the years.

Trump had also signaled progress in strengthening the U.S.-Polish military relationship, calling the developments on a base a «historic step for our Great US/Polish Alliance» and indicating on Truth Social that further details could be announced.

«Thanks to the bold leadership of my friend, Karol Nawrocki, President of Poland, major progress is being made towards establishing a US Army base in Poland,» Trump said Sept. 17.

Erika Kirk channels Charlie with blunt message to conservatives after GOP midterm losses

Published

Erika Kirk had a message for conservatives reeling from Republican election setbacks, and she turned to her late husband Charlie’s words to deliver it.

«I miss Charlie so much every single day, but especially on a day like today,» she wrote.

«He always said that when things are going well, we need to stay humble. And when things aren’t going the way we want, we need to stay positive, keep our faith, and get back to work.»

ERIKA KIRK URGES CONSERVATIVE STUDENTS NOT TO BACK DOWN IN FIRST SCHOOL YEAR SINCE CHARLIE’S ASSASSINATION

The widow of Turning Point USA CEO and founder Charlie Kirk said her husband had built a political operation meant to endure both victories and defeats.

«Charlie’s vision for Turning Point Action was always bigger than one election,» she wrote. «He wanted a permanent, year-round operation with the people, relationships, and resources to compete in every cycle.»

INSIDE CHARLIE KIRK’S EFFORT TO DEVELOP THE NEXT GENERATION OF CONSERVATIVE VOICES

«He knew there would be victories and setbacks because he had experienced both and that’s why he built for both.»

Kirk also thanked the staff, students, volunteers and ballot chasers who worked during the election cycle.

«I know Charlie would be unbelievably proud of each and every one of you, and I am, too,» she wrote.

In a lengthy post on X, Erika Kirk said Republicans saw once comfortable races tighten or flip as candidates she described as democratic socialists campaigned on the cost of gas, groceries and housing.

«A rising stock market doesn’t mean much when nearly half of Americans don’t have a 401K and just want to put gas in their trucks, put food on the table, and provide a good life for their families,» she wrote.

Erika Kirk paired her warning with a defense of free enterprise, arguing conservatives must understand why voters looked elsewhere without embracing the policies their opponents offered.

«We can disagree with the solutions voters were offered while still recognizing why they were looking elsewhere for answers,» she wrote.

JASON CHAFFETZ: FIVE TIMELESS POLITICAL LESSONS THAT GOT LOST IN 2026

«The biggest mistake conservatives can make right now would be to allow this moment to become another exercise in finger-pointing, in-fighting, or trying to secure their own political preservation,» she wrote. «That does not solve the problems the American people are demanding be solved.»

Erika Kirk said exit polls showed voters were concerned about the economy and the war in Iran.

She said those concerns echoed what Turning Point had been hearing from students around the country for months.

«This isn’t a surprise to us because we’ve heard the same concerns from our students around the country for months and we’ve been concerned about it too,» she wrote.

JONATHAN TURLEY: SOCIALISM IS BACK IN STYLE AND DEMOCRATS ARE BUYING THE PITCH

Erika Kirk rejected socialism as an answer, arguing it places economic power in government hands rather than allowing individuals and families to build prosperity.

She said that approach conflicts with the free enterprise, individual liberty and opportunity at the heart of the country.

But she also warned that Americans will not simply stick with a party out of habit.

«Americans are not looking for labels and don’t subscribe to unquestioned party loyalty anymore either,» she wrote. «They will support the candidates who can both speak to their concerns and deliver on what THEY need and dream about for their families.»

She identified affordable homes, safe communities and greater opportunity for the next generation as the promises voters want fulfilled.

Erika Kirk said the organization would study the results, listen to voters and spend the next two years making the case that conservative policies and free markets can address the problems Americans face.

She pledged to continue building relationships in communities across the country and preparing for «2028 and beyond.»

«Our principles haven’t changed and neither has our mission,» she wrote.

Jennifer Balcarras, 48, an art therapist, and her daughter, Selah Reed, 20, went missing Saturday after going for a walk on the Snooka West Trail, just minutes from their home in Bella Coola, British Columbia.

Loved ones grew concerned when Balcarras failed to show up for a scheduled online meet-up on Saturday, her brother, Matt Balcarras, told The Vancouver Sun.

«There was evidence to suggest a bear may have been involved,» Jeff Tyre, an inspector with the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service, said in a video update posted to social media.

Tyre noted that officers were actively working to «locate and capture any bears involved» and said it was not immediately clear if more than one animal was responsible.

«They were not naive city folks,» he said. «They were strong women living the life.»

The tragic encounter came less than a year after a grizzly bear injured 11 people, including fourth- and fifth-grade students, during a school field trip near Bella Coola.

Quién es Chris Pappas, el demócrata que ganó en New Hampshire y será el primer hombre abiertamente gay en llegar al Senado de EE.UU.

Published

on

Luego agregó: “Él siempre estuvo a mi lado.
