Carlos Lindao, el ecuatoriano de 123 años que busca validar su edad para convertirse en el hombre más longevo del mundo
Carlos Alberto Lindao Vera vive en Puerto El Morro, una parroquia rural costera de Guayaquil, y en las últimas semanas su nombre se volvió conversación nacional por una cifra que descoloca incluso a los especialistas en longevidad: 123 años. Según consta en su cédula de identidad, nació el 17 de octubre de 1902. Esa fecha, repetida en reportajes y coberturas recientes, es hoy el principal soporte público de su edad y el punto de partida de una historia que mezcla trabajo físico, vida en el manglar y un último deseo pendiente.
En un país acostumbrado a que las grandes historias ocurran en la capital o en los palacios de gobierno, la de Lindao emerge desde los esteros del golfo. Los medios que lo han visitado lo describen como un hombre delgado, activo, que todavía se mueve con independencia y conserva lucidez. El 11 de diciembre de 2025, el Concejo Municipal de Guayaquil lo homenajeó en una sesión solemne y lo convirtió, de manera oficial en el ámbito local, en un símbolo de “larga vida” y dignidad humana. Según Primicias, el reconocimiento resaltó su trayectoria de trabajo y su vínculo con El Morro, donde ha pasado prácticamente toda su existencia.
La imagen que alimenta la leyenda no es la de un anciano inmóvil, sino la de un hombre que aún se sube a una canoa, recorre el estero y sigue dedicado a un oficio casi desaparecido: la producción artesanal de carbón, asociada históricamente a la vida del manglar. Según El Universo, durante el acto municipal se mencionó que Lindao continúa activo, navega por el estero y trabaja en la producción de carbón. Expreso, en cambio, subraya que él atribuye su longevidad a una vida de trabajo físico constante y a una alimentación simple, “libre de químicos”, en sus propias palabras y en el relato de su entorno.
Ese retrato —actividad cotidiana, dieta tradicional y disciplina— es parte de lo que hace verosímil, para muchos ecuatorianos, la posibilidad de que su caso sea excepcional. Pero la pregunta decisiva no es anecdótica: ¿puede un hombre de 123 años ser reconocido como el más longevo del mundo? Con la información pública disponible, la respuesta es más prudente que entusiasta.
El caso de Lindao, tal como se ha contado hasta ahora, no aparece validado por Guinness World Records ni por los principales grupos internacionales que verifican edades extremas. Teleamazonas, que lo presentó como posible candidato a récord, recuerda que la fecha de nacimiento se basa en la cédula y que su historia podría abrir una ruta hacia Guinness; sin embargo, esa postulación o validación no está documentada.
La comparación con los registros vigentes muestra por qué la validación externa es determinante. Según Guinness World Records, la persona viva de mayor edad reconocida es la británica Ethel Caterham, nacida en 1909, cuya edad fue verificada por la organización de investigación LongeviQuest. Y, en la categoría masculina, Guinness reconoce como el hombre vivo más longevo al brasileño João Marinho Neto, nacido en 1912, también verificado por LongeviQuest. Si Lindao tuviera 123 años con documentación completa y comprobable bajo esos estándares, superaría por un margen amplio ambos títulos.
En edades extremas, la verificación internacional suele exigir una cadena documental sólida —actas de nacimiento, registros tempranos, documentos de identidad históricos, y consistencia en censos o archivos— además de auditoría de expertos. En el caso de Lindao, lo que se ha hecho público de forma consistente es el dato de su cédula ecuatoriana y el reconocimiento municipal; no se conoce, al menos en reportes accesibles, un expediente completo revisado por una entidad global de récords.
Mientras esa verificación queda en suspenso, la vida de Lindao se cuenta mejor desde el terreno: la rutina, la memoria y el hilo familiar que no logra cerrar. Según Primicias, su último deseo es reencontrarse con el hijo que tuvo cuando era adolescente y al que nunca conoció. Ese elemento —la búsqueda de un hijo que hoy podría tener más de un siglo— coloca su longevidad no como una hazaña aislada, sino como un recordatorio del tiempo vivido y de las pérdidas acumuladas: una biografía marcada por la ausencia y la persistencia.
En el Concejo, el homenaje funcionó como un gesto de ciudad hacia una historia rural: Guayaquil reconociendo a un hombre de su periferia, de esteros y manglares, que sobrevivió a generaciones completas y todavía se sostiene en el trabajo.
Carlos Lindao, por ahora, es dos cosas al mismo tiempo: un hombre de El Morro cuyo documento de identidad lo ubica en 1902 y una historia que aún debe superar el umbral de la certificación internacional si quiere convertirse en récord. Entre ambos planos —el del papel y el de la vida— queda una escena potente: un ecuatoriano que, a los 123 años, todavía se mueve como si el tiempo fuera un río navegable y no una estadística.

In Borazjan, Iran, celebrants chanted and, in Mamasani, they waved flags and danced.

People also celebrated in the Iranian cities of Shiraz and Abadan, «where the people are out on the streets till the wee hours of the night in celebration of an Iran that is on the brink of finding its freedom after almost five decades,» according to Lisa Daftari, editor at The Foreign Desk.

Iranian people also cheered the news in other parts of the world, such as Madrid, London, Berlin, Armenia and the United States.

«Iranian people all over the world, from Los Angeles to Tehran, are on the streets celebrating [in] sheer jubilation over the dawn of a new and free Iran,» Daftari told Fox News Digital.
«Iranians poured onto the streets cheering, clapping, waving the lion and sun flag, dancing openly and singing the old national anthem. It’s hard to imagine a people so starved for freedom, so desperate for justice, that they are cheering military strikes on their own soil as the price of liberation.»

In Los Angeles, home to the largest Iranian community in the U.S., hundreds came out to wave Iranian and American flags on Saturday.
Some people also held signs bearing expressions such as, «Make Iran Great Again.»
«I love America. I love everything about this country,» Iranian American journalist Masih Alinejad told Fox News Saturday.
«I grew up in a country where I was brainwashed to say, ‘Death to America,’ the same country — how ironic — the same country that saved my life three times and is now helping my people in Iran. They’re celebrating. They’re celebrating out of joy.

FIRST ON FOX: A major public policy nonprofit co-led by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush praised President Donald Trump for ordering Saturday’s military strikes against Iran.
United Against a Nuclear Iran (UANI) — was formed in 2008 by Ambassador Mark Wallace, who held a United Nations-centered post in Bush’s brother’s administration, and former George H.W. Bush diplomat Dennis Ross — to combat threats posed by the Islamic Republic.
The group has been on the front lines of highlighting Iran’s human rights abuses and attacks on Americans and advising policymakers and the business community about dangers posed by Tehran.
The organization counsels existing and would-be commercial partners of Iran regarding the legal, financial and reputational risks of that kind of commerce.
«UANI salutes the courage and professionalism of American and Israeli service members carrying out this historic mission against the Iranian regime,» Bush and Wallace told Fox News Digital Saturday.

«We applaud President Trump for his courageous decision to launch this military operation. For 47 years, the Iranian regime has unleashed terror, violence and misery — against its own people and across the region — while threatening the United States, Israel and our allies.»
Bush, who ran against Trump in a bruising 2016 primary, and Wallace noted that many presidents tried to bring Iran into the «peaceful community of nations» but were not able to finish the job.
«This president engaged extensively and in good faith to achieve a diplomatic solution,» they said after Trump indicated as recently as last week he wanted to negotiate terms.
«The regime chose escalation and continued its pursuit of nuclear weapons. The responsibility for this moment rests squarely with Ayatollah Khamenei.»
Khamenei, 86, was declared dead by Israeli sources by late afternoon.
Bush and Wallace added it was clear the joint American-Israeli operation was directed not at Iran, the country and citizenry, but at Khamenei’s «lethal capabilities.»
The Iranian people, they said, have long suffered under repression and that Trump’s message since the strikes began is one that should be embraced by all Americans: «We aim to see Iran free, prosperous, and at peace. This is their time to take their great country back.»
«The Butcher of Tehran is dead,» Bush and Wallace added in a separate public statement.

Bush added in a statement on X that «Operation Epic Fury marks a historic mission against the Iranian regime.»
«We salute the courage and professionalism of American and Israeli service members and commend for his courageous decision,» he added.
Bush’s relationship with Trump has appeared to warm since their bitter feuds of a decade ago.
During the 2016 sweeps, Trump nicknamed the Republican Party scion «Low Energy Jeb,» while Bush quipped that the mogul would not be able to «insult your way to the presidency» after the eventual victor mocked an ad that former first lady Barbara Bush filmed for her son.
While governor, Bush made improving public education a hallmark of his administration in Tallahassee. Bush implemented stricter proficiency standards in elementary education and signed what was dubbed the «A+ plan,» making Florida the first state to require clear letter grades on student performance.

He recently praised the Trump administration’s overtures toward universal school choice and federal block grants as a «transformational opportunity.»
«The Trump administration has a chance to shift the power dynamic back to the states, where policymakers are uniquely equipped to understand and address the diverse needs of their students, schools, and communities,» he added in a column in Education Week.
