A mountaineer has made history by becoming the first person to ski down Mount Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen, expedition organizers confirmed Thursday.

Polish national Andrzej Bargiel’s achievement is also being hailed as a landmark moment in the world of extreme endurance sports.

Bargiel, 37, summited the world’s highest peak at 29,032 feet Sept. 22 before putting on his skis and starting his big descent.

«I am on top of the highest mountain in the world, and I’m going to descend it on skis,» Bargiel said in a video posted to his Instagram page before pushing off from the snowy summit.

According to AFP, Seven Summit Treks, the Nepal-based outfitter managing Bargiel’s expedition, confirmed his descent was the first of its kind.

They reported the athlete split the feat into two sections, first skiing to Camp II before spending the night, and then continuing through what is said to be the dangerous Khumbu Icefall the next morning.

People have tried ski descents from Everest in the past but none of them have completed the run without bottled oxygen.

In 2000, Slovenian Davorin Karnicar became the first to ski from the summit to Base Camp, but he relied on supplemental oxygen.

His brother, Bartek, helped by piloting a drone that helped guide him safely through the glacier, AFP reported.

«This was extremely challenging, and no one had done it before,» Chhang Dawa Sherpa of Seven Summit Treks told AFP.

Bargiel also spent nearly 16 hours in the so-called «death zone» above 8,000 meters, where oxygen levels are dangerously low and survival is hard without bottled air.

When he reached Base Camp, Bargiel was greeted with a khada, a ceremonial Buddhist scarf, in recognition of his success.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk celebrated the accomplishment on X, writing: «Sky is the limit? Not for Poles! Andrzej Bargiel has just skied down Mount Everest.»

Bargiel is reportedly no stranger to high-altitude firsts. In 2018, he became the first person to ski down Pakistan’s K2, the world’s second-highest mountain, a feat BBC News noted was dedicated to the centenary of Poland regaining independence.

He had also attempted Everest in 2019 and again in 2022 but was thwarted by unstable ice and high winds.

Published

on

Trump Accounts touted as antidote to ‘anti-capitalist’ ideology, financial illiteracy gripping US: regulator

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

FIRST ON FOX: «Trump Accounts» will work as a nationwide financial literacy starter kit that simultaneously serves as an antidote to rising anti-capitalist sentiment, according to the head of the Treasury bureau that regulates and supervises national banks.

«Trump Accounts will be one of the most impactful financial literacy tools in our country’s history,» Comptroller of the Currency Jonathan Gould said Friday before the Financial Literacy and Education Commission. «They present a unique chance for all Americans to own a stake in the most powerful economy on Earth, watch their money grow, and begin their investing journey.»

Trump Accounts were created under the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act signed July 4, 2025, and are structured as tax-deferred investment accounts for children. Eligible children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, who are U.S. citizens with valid Social Security numbers, receive a $1,000 federal seed contribution, while families and employers can also contribute under set limits.

In addition to the accounts helping bolster children’s ability to secure the «American Dream,» as the administration has celebrated, Gould said the accounts would bolster financial literacy and push back on what he described as an anti-capitalist ideology.

Fox News Digital obtained Gould’s full remarks at the Financial Literacy and Education Commission meeting that focused on the implementation, consumer education and outreach efforts for Trump Accounts. The commission is a body within the Treasury Department established in 2003 to improve the financial literacy of citizens.

Gould took aim at «collectivist policies,» such as socialism, arguing financial literacy requires «a foundational understanding of free-market principles» and casting Trump Accounts as a response to what he called growing anti-capitalist ideology.

«Trump Accounts offer an opportunity for America’s children to experience the best of our free markets and to own a piece of the American Dream. And they are a direct rebuttal to the philosophical and economic dead-ends of collectivist policies,» Gould said.

I’M YOUNG AND SHUT OUT OF THE AMERICAN DREAM BUT I WON’T BE GOVERNMENT OR THE LEFT’S VICTIM

Recent surveys have found that U.S. adults suffer from financial illiteracy, including the World Economic Forum publishing data in 2024 that found roughly 50% of U.S. adults could not pass a 28-question test on personal finances, called the P-Fin Index. A separate study published in 2024 by WalletHub found Gen Z — the youngest generation in the U.S. workforce — is the least financially confident generation, including 85% reporting they see one or more barriers to financial success.

Gould continued in his remarks Friday, saying that his goal is to «ensure that Americans are equipped with the knowledge to navigate the financial system, strengthen the competitive landscape that supports their communities, and have a regulatory structure that promotes prosperity.»

He added in his remarks before the commission that banks should use their credibility and standing to inoculate Americans against the rise in «anti-capitalist ideologies» compounding U.S. financial illiteracy after decades of «inattention to the harmful and inaccurate curriculum that too many of our schools and colleges have been teaching.»

«I strongly encourage banks to use their credibility and standing in the community to combat the rise of anti-capitalist ideologies,» Gould said. «These ideologies are borne of financial illiteracy and reflect decades of inattention to the harmful and inaccurate curriculum that too many of our schools and colleges have been teaching.  As one of the central instruments of capitalism, banks have a major stake in this, and they have an important role to play in inoculating Americans from these harmful ideologies.»

«Financial literacy and regulatory reform are connected,» Gould said. «When consumers understand banking and regulation, they are less vulnerable to improper practices and more capable of understanding how innovation, whether in digital payments, modern distribution methods, or new financial services, can best serve them.»

Some Democratic lawmakers and policy groups have spoken out against Trump Accounts, claiming they fall short of addressing financial hurdles Americans face or could widen the wealth gap as poor families unable to add contributions following the seed money will benefit the least, The Associated Press reported.

President Donald Trump has celebrated the accounts as providing citizens a better shot at the «American dream» while adding that they are like «real trust funds for every American child.»

«The federal government will also automatically be making a one-time seed contribution of $1,000 into the tax-deferred Trump Accounts for every newborn U.S. citizen, fulfilling a promise I made in the 2024 campaign,» Trump said in December while announcing the accounts. «Trump Accounts should grow to be worth many thousands of dollars by the time the child is 18 and even more by the time they are 20 or even 30 years old.»

Israeli officials reportedly warn Iran’s ballistic missiles could trigger solo military action against Tehran

Published

on

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

As U.S.-Iran diplomacy remains primarily focused on Tehran’s nuclear program, Israeli officials and analysts warn that ballistic missiles remain a central red line for Jerusalem and could shape any decision on unilateral action.

Before departing for his trip to Washington, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he plans to press Israel’s priorities in the talks. «I will present to the president our views regarding the principles of the negotiations — the important principles — and, in my view, they are important not only for Israel, but for anyone in the world who wants peace and security in the Middle East.»

Those priorities, Israeli officials say, extend beyond the nuclear file and include Iran’s missile capabilities. Israeli defense officials have recently warned U.S. counterparts that Iran’s ballistic missile program constitutes an existential threat to Israel and that Jerusalem is prepared to act alone if necessary, according to reporting by The Jerusalem Post.

The outlet reported that Israeli security officials conveyed in recent weeks their intent to dismantle Iran’s missile capabilities and production infrastructure through a series of high-level exchanges with Washington. Military planners outlined potential operational concepts aimed at degrading the program, including strikes on key manufacturing and development sites.

A spokesperson for Israel’s defense minister declined to comment on the issue.

Sima Shine, a former senior Israeli intelligence official and current senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies, told Fox News Digital that limiting talks to the nuclear issue risks missing what Israel considers the broader threat.

«If negotiations deal only with the nuclear file and ignore the missiles, Israel will remain exposed,» Shine said. «Iran treats its ballistic missile program as its main deterrence and will not give it up.» She stressed that Tehran views them as a defensive and deterrent capability dictated by the supreme leader. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his country would not negotiate on its ballistic missile program, rejecting a core U.S. demand and further dimming prospects for a breakthrough deal. Shine described that stance as a fundamental red line for Israel.

She also warned that Tehran may be stalling diplomatically while assessing whether Washington will limit the talks to nuclear constraints alone.

«They have room to show flexibility on enrichment,» she said, noting that activity slowed after strikes on facilities, «but missiles are different. That they would not discuss.»

Israeli concerns extend beyond the negotiating table. A former intelligence official familiar with strategic planning said Israel retains the capability to strike independently if necessary.

«Israel can act by itself if there is no choice,» the former official said, adding that missile expansion and regional threats would be key triggers.

Shine says the optics of Israeli pressure on Washington could complicate matters.

«If missiles become the central public demand, it may look as if Israel is pushing the U.S. toward military action,» she said. «If that fails, Israel could be blamed.»

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner meet with Oman's foreign minister

She added that Iran’s missile arsenal is not aimed solely at Israel but forms part of a broader deterrence strategy against the United States and regional adversaries.

For Israel, the implication is clear. A nuclear agreement that leaves Iran’s missile infrastructure untouched could be seen in Jerusalem as stabilizing the regime while leaving the most immediate threat in place. That calculation, Israeli analysts say, defines the red line.
