EXCLUSIVE: Following a week of violent riots in Los Angeles, conservative activist group Catholic Vote has released a report titled the «Gavin Newsom files,» a report highlighting what the group calls the California’s governor’s «extreme» and «viciously anti-Christian agenda.»
Newsom, the Democratic governor of California, is among the top names being rumored for a 2028 presidential run.
Over the last week, he has been locked in a protracted war of words, which has also manifested itself in a court battle, over President Donald Trump’s response to the riots in Los Angeles. Newsom has called Trump’s use of the National Guard and Marines to respond to the rioting both «immoral» and «illegal.»
A longtime progressive, Newsom has recently moved to present himself as more centrist, starting a podcast titled «This is Gavin Newsom» that hosted the likes of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
According to Catholic Vote’s report, however, Newsom is «one of America’s most radical, destructive politicians» who «remains the same ideologue who has trampled parental rights, championed the transgender mutilation of children, and taken pro-abortion advocacy to a sickening extreme.»

‘As California goes, so goes the rest of the nation’
The report highlights how, despite his recent rebranding, Newsom has long been at the forefront of pushing for ever more liberal policies, championing causes such as abortion and transgender treatments for children.
«Gavin Newsom may be adjusting his style and image. But he remains the same ideologue who has trampled parental rights, championed the transgender mutilation of children, and taken pro-abortion advocacy to a sickening extreme,» says the report.
As a politician with rumored presidential aspirations, Catholic Vote highlights how Newsom has advanced his liberal agenda not just in California but across the entire country.

The group quotes Newsom from a 2008 interview, during a court battle over same-sex marriage, saying: «As California goes, so goes the rest of the nation. It’s inevitable.»
Catholic Vote takes particular issue with Newsom’s abortion advocacy, pointing to how he has aggressively expanded abortion in California, signing 12 pro-abortion bills in a single month in September 2022 and nine more again in 2023. The report says that despite professing to be a Catholic, Newsom has not only advocated for a right to abortion but even used biblical scripture to advertise and promote abortion.
The report points to how, as governor, Newsom commissioned billboards in Oklahoma that advertised «Need an abortion? California is here to help,» with a quote from the Bible saying, «Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.»
«This was deemed ‘unconscionable’ by the California Catholic Conference, and a ‘reprehensible act of gross blasphemy’ by a leading Protestant pastor. A statement from the Catholic League summed it up best, calling the billboard campaign ‘demonic,’» says the report.

Catholic Vote states that «Few figures demonstrate the drift of America’s political Left – away from the Clinton-era language of ‘safe, legal, and rare,’ and toward today’s ‘#ShoutYourAbortion’ attitude – better than Gavin Newsom.»
The report also points to how Newsom has led the nation to «warp» the concept of parental choice to use it as a tool to advance transgender treatments for children. It points to how Newsom signed a bill in 2022 making California the nation’s first «sanctuary state» for parents from other jurisdictions seeking to give their children hormone treatment, puberty-blocking drugs, and more. It says that in 2023, Newsom again «doubled down on this strategy of imposing radical ideology and calling it ‘freedom.’ When he instituted new penalties on public school districts that fail to promote homosexuality and transgenderism to children, he framed this as a matter of ‘families’ having ‘the freedom to decide what’s right for them.’»
According to the report, Newsom’s office released a statement in 2023 after he signed a slate of «Supporting LGBTQ+ Californians» policies that declared «hate-filled attacks» of «far-right extremists» would «not be tolerated.»
Catholic Vote said that «if California is indeed ‘America’s Coming Attraction,’ as Newsom claims, believers in Biblical truth – and biological reality – should be gravely concerned.»

«Inevitably, the advance of LGBTQ ideology threatens religious liberty and authentic freedom of conscience in society. These ideologues demand forms of approval and practical compliance that faithful Christians, and other critics of gender nonsense, cannot give them,» says the report.

«Americans have been shocked by the rioting and chaos in Los Angeles. But sadly, this reckless governance is all too common in Gavin Newsom’s California,» Catholic Vote Vice President Josh Mercer told Fox News Digital.
«As our new report, Newsom Files points out, the California governor refused to deal with vexing problems like drug dealers, shoplifters and the rampant homeless camps. Instead, Gavin Newsom was busy dreaming of the White House and spending taxpayer funds to put up billboards in Oklahoma that quote the Bible and urge people to fly to California to get an abortion,» he said. «With his wacky priorities, it’s no wonder people are fleeing California in droves.»
Brandon Richards, a spokesperson for Newsom, responded to the report by telling Fox News Digital that «we’re not taking seriously any organization co-founded by a political hack who has sworn allegiance to President Trump,» possibly referring to Catholic Vote’s 2024 endorsement of Trump’s campaign and Catholic Vote founder Brian Burch’s selection to be the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican.
Richards said «we encourage Catholic Vote, which does not represent the Catholic Church, to read Leviticus: ‘You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.’»

Aberrante caso: detuvieron a un guardia de seguridad 78 años por presunto abuso sexual infantil en Honduras
Un hecho estremecedor sacudió a la ciudad de El Progreso, Yoro: la Dirección Policial de Investigaciones (DPI) detuvo a un guardia de seguridad de 78 años, acusado de haber abusado sexualmente de una nena de cinco años.
La captura se produjo en la colonia Covitral, luego de varios días de tareas de inteligencia y vigilancia. El hombre, originario de Olancho y residente en la colonia Berlín, quedó a disposición de la Justicia tras una orden emitida por el Juzgado de Letras Seccional de El Progreso.

Según el reporte oficial, el ataque ocurrió cuando la madre de la víctima atendía su negocio y la niña se alejó unos metros para jugar. La denuncia fue inmediata: la madre acudió a la policía y permitió que la DPI recolectara pruebas testificales y periciales clave para avanzar en la causa. Tras la detención, los agentes le leyeron los derechos constitucionales al acusado y lo trasladaron al Ministerio Público, donde se iniciará el proceso penal para determinar su responsabilidad.
Un drama que se repite: cifras alarmantes de violencia sexual en Honduras
El caso de Yoro no es aislado. La violencia sexual contra niñas y mujeres en Honduras es una problemática crítica y persistente, según datos oficiales y de organizaciones de derechos humanos.
El Centro de Derechos de Mujeres (CDM) informó que en 2025 el Ministerio Público recibió 3.350 denuncias por violencia sexual contra mujeres, mientras que el Sistema Nacional de Emergencias (SNE-911) reportó 3.233 llamadas relacionadas con delitos sexuales, un aumento respecto a 2024.
La DPI también registró un fuerte incremento en las detenciones: 401 personas fueron arrestadas por delitos sexuales en los primeros siete meses de 2025, lo que representa un 41,2% más que el año anterior. Entre los detenidos hay 12 menores de edad y varios reincidentes. Los departamentos con mayor cantidad de capturas son Cortés, Atlántida, Santa Bárbara, Yoro, La Paz, Olancho, Francisco Morazán, Lempira e Islas de la Bahía.
Las víctimas: niñas y adolescentes en el centro de la violencia
El 62% de las víctimas de violencia sexual en Honduras son menores de edad, según el CDM. La Encuesta Nacional Especializada sobre la Violencia contra las Mujeres y Niñas del INE reveló que 24 de cada 100 mujeres han sufrido violencia sexual al menos una vez en su vida.
Sin embargo, la mayoría de los casos no se denuncian: nueve de cada diez mujeres callan por miedo, desconfianza o normalización social. Esto genera un subregistro preocupante y deja a muchas víctimas sin acceso a la justicia ni a la reparación.
Impunidad y falta de respuestas: solo el 35% de los casos llega a condena
El sistema judicial hondureño muestra graves falencias. En 2024, de los 854 casos de violencia sexual ingresados en los juzgados, solo 298 obtuvieron sentencia condenatoria (el 35% del total). Más de la mitad de estas condenas fueron por violación.
Esto significa que la mayoría de los casos no logran avanzar en el sistema de justicia, dejando a las víctimas sin una resolución efectiva.
Llamado urgente a denunciar y proteger a la niñez
La DPI y organizaciones de derechos humanos insisten en la importancia de denunciar cualquier hecho de abuso sexual. El número 911 está habilitado para recibir denuncias anónimas y confidenciales.

Especialistas y referentes sociales remarcan la necesidad de fortalecer la prevención, la atención integral y la protección de niñas y adolescentes, así como garantizar el acceso a la justicia y a servicios de apoyo psicológico y médico especializados.
El caso de Yoro vuelve a poner en primer plano las vulnerabilidades que enfrentan las niñas en Honduras y la urgencia de una respuesta estatal efectiva para erradicar la violencia sexual y asegurar entornos seguros para la infancia.

The Senate confirmed Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., as the ninth Homeland Security secretary, capping a sprint to replace embattled outgoing Secretary Kristi Noem.
It also caps off a 13-year career in Congress that began in the House and saw Mullin score a seat in the Senate in 2021 where he became the de facto bridge between both chambers, helping to build trust between the House and Senate during last year’s push to pass the «big, beautiful bill.» Ahead of the vote he arrived flanked by his family, and was excited to cast his final vote on himself.
Mullin, who was picked by President Donald Trump earlier this month to lead the Department of Homeland Security, was confirmed on a largely party-line vote. Sens. John Fetterman, D-Pa., and Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., joined nearly every Republican to clinch his nomination.
Heinrich said he bucked his party because he has seen that Mullin — who co-chairs the Senate Legislative Branch spending committee with him — «is not someone who can simply be bullied into changing his views.»

«And I look forward to having a secretary who doesn’t take their orders from Stephen Miller,» Heinrich said.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was the only Republican to vote against Mullin, citing their chilly relationship and Mullin’s past comments that his 2017 assault was «justified.»
Mullin’s confirmation also saw the close of a whirlwind month in which Noem was reassigned after an explosive pair of hearings on Capitol Hill, as well as the deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, who were fatally shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Still, Noem’s ousting and Mullin’s ascension have done little to shift Senate Democrats from their position. They continue to demand sweeping reforms to ICE and have so far blocked funding to the agency five times, along with several GOP attempts to temporarily extend funding to DHS.
The path to ending the shutdown appeared to become more complicated over the weekend.
Both sides began meeting for the first time during the shutdown, with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., characterizing the talks as «productive.»
However, Trump threw a wrench into negotiations Sunday night, writing on Truth Social: «I don’t think we should make any deal with the Crazy, Country Destroying, Radical Left Democrats unless, and until, they vote with Republicans to pass ‘THE SAVE AMERICA ACT.’»

That comes after Thune suggested to the president that Republicans could carve out ICE and Customs and Border Protection funding from a broader DHS package and instead fund those agencies through budget reconciliation.
Canceling recess may be a hard sell in the upper chamber, given that votes this past weekend were plagued by absences. When asked if he would cancel the upcoming two-week break, Thune said, «We’ll see.»
A cohort of Senate Republicans met with Trump ahead of Mullin’s confirmation vote. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., told reporters after that the meeting went «really well.»
When asked if Republicans had a solution to end the closure, she said, «We do.»

Still, Senate Democrats remain unified in their opposition to the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.
«We’re ready to meet with the White House today to keep talking,» Schumer said. «In fact, we were going to meet this morning with Tom Homan. But apparently the White House pulled that meeting because of Donald Trump’s temper tantrum. They’re all scrambling around there in the White House. They don’t know what to do.»

El régimen de Kim Jong-un declaró irreversible su política nuclear y amenazó a Corea del Sur: “Haremos que paguen sin piedad”
El dictador norcoreano, Kim Jong-un, amenazó a Corea del Sur al afirmar que será tratada como “el Estado más hostil” y que cualquier acción en su contra recibirá una respuesta “sin la menor consideración ni vacilación”. El mensaje se dio en un discurso ante el Parlamento, donde también dejó en claro que su país no renunciará a su condición de potencia nuclear.
Durante su intervención, Kim sostuvo que el desarrollo de armamento atómico es una política definitiva.
“Seguiremos consolidando firmemente nuestro estatus como Estado con armas nucleares como un curso irreversible”, afirmó. En esa línea, remarcó que el fortalecimiento del arsenal forma parte de una estrategia central de defensa.
El líder comunista indicó que el país continuará ampliando sus capacidades militares, especialmente en el ámbito nuclear.
“Expandiremos y avanzaremos nuestro disuasivo nuclear de autodefensa”, señaló, al referirse a la modernización de su poder bélico. También aseguró que las fuerzas armadas deben mantener una “preparación precisa” ante posibles amenazas.
El discurso se produjo en un contexto de endurecimiento de la postura de Pyongyang hacia Seúl.
Kim abandonó referencias previas a una posible reunificación y definió la relación con Corea del Sur en términos de confrontación directa. “Designaremos a Corea del Sur como el Estado más hostil y actuaremos en consecuencia”, afirmó.

Sin embargo, afirmó que su país ya no se percibe únicamente en una posición defensiva.
Las declaraciones se producen tras su reciente reelección al frente del principal órgano de decisión política del país, lo que refuerza su control sobre las instituciones. El sistema político norcoreano concentra el poder en el liderazgo central, y los procesos legislativos suelen respaldar las decisiones del Ejecutivo.
En paralelo, Corea del Norte continúa profundizando vínculos con otros actores internacionales. Durante la sesión parlamentaria se difundió un mensaje del presidente ruso, Vladimir Putin, en el que destacó la cooperación entre ambos países y manifestó su intención de fortalecer la relación estratégica.
