Israeli officials reportedly warn Iran’s ballistic missiles could trigger solo military action against Tehran

As U.S.-Iran diplomacy remains primarily focused on Tehran’s nuclear program, Israeli officials and analysts warn that ballistic missiles remain a central red line for Jerusalem and could shape any decision on unilateral action.
Before departing for his trip to Washington, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he plans to press Israel’s priorities in the talks. «I will present to the president our views regarding the principles of the negotiations — the important principles — and, in my view, they are important not only for Israel, but for anyone in the world who wants peace and security in the Middle East.»
Those priorities, Israeli officials say, extend beyond the nuclear file and include Iran’s missile capabilities. Israeli defense officials have recently warned U.S. counterparts that Iran’s ballistic missile program constitutes an existential threat to Israel and that Jerusalem is prepared to act alone if necessary, according to reporting by The Jerusalem Post.

The outlet reported that Israeli security officials conveyed in recent weeks their intent to dismantle Iran’s missile capabilities and production infrastructure through a series of high-level exchanges with Washington. Military planners outlined potential operational concepts aimed at degrading the program, including strikes on key manufacturing and development sites.
A spokesperson for Israel’s defense minister declined to comment on the issue.
Sima Shine, a former senior Israeli intelligence official and current senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies, told Fox News Digital that limiting talks to the nuclear issue risks missing what Israel considers the broader threat.

«If negotiations deal only with the nuclear file and ignore the missiles, Israel will remain exposed,» Shine said. «Iran treats its ballistic missile program as its main deterrence and will not give it up.» She stressed that Tehran views them as a defensive and deterrent capability dictated by the supreme leader. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his country would not negotiate on its ballistic missile program, rejecting a core U.S. demand and further dimming prospects for a breakthrough deal. Shine described that stance as a fundamental red line for Israel.
She also warned that Tehran may be stalling diplomatically while assessing whether Washington will limit the talks to nuclear constraints alone.
«They have room to show flexibility on enrichment,» she said, noting that activity slowed after strikes on facilities, «but missiles are different. That they would not discuss.»
Israeli concerns extend beyond the negotiating table. A former intelligence official familiar with strategic planning said Israel retains the capability to strike independently if necessary.

«Israel can act by itself if there is no choice,» the former official said, adding that missile expansion and regional threats would be key triggers.
Shine says the optics of Israeli pressure on Washington could complicate matters.
«If missiles become the central public demand, it may look as if Israel is pushing the U.S. toward military action,» she said. «If that fails, Israel could be blamed.»

She added that Iran’s missile arsenal is not aimed solely at Israel but forms part of a broader deterrence strategy against the United States and regional adversaries.
For Israel, the implication is clear. A nuclear agreement that leaves Iran’s missile infrastructure untouched could be seen in Jerusalem as stabilizing the regime while leaving the most immediate threat in place. That calculation, Israeli analysts say, defines the red line.

House hearing raises red flags over former tech mogul’s ‘CCP network’ allegedly funding of far-left groups

During a House Ways and Means Committee hearing on Tuesday, former U.S. tech mogul Neville Roy Singham was regularly named in the discussion and debate as to how foreign adversaries help fund U.S. agitator groups through what one witness described as «foreign dark money.»
Singham, a U.S. citizen who sold his IT consulting company for $785 million before moving to Shanghai, was accused by multiple members of Congress as the man behind the «Singham [Chinese Communist Party] network,» a phrase coined by committee chairman Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., during his opening remarks at the hearing.
«It’s no wonder that the People’s Forum echoes Communist Party propaganda,» Smith said. «One of their largest donors is a wealthy former US tech executive living in Shanghai who is cozy, extremely cozy with the Chinese Communist Party.»
«Neville Roy Singham and his wife, a co-founder of CodePink, donated over $20 million to the People’s Forum through shell companies and donor advised funds to hide the original source of the money,» Smith explained.

«This committee has worked tirelessly to unravel, to unravel, the Singam CCP network,» Smith added.
Last April, Smith sent a letter with GOP committee members to then-IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel requesting information about «specific tax-exempt organizations that promote CCP propaganda and related initiatives,» including the People’s Forum.
The People’s Forum has been one of the loudest voices encouraging and facilitating agitators to take to the streets for anti-ICE demonstrations, and Fox News Digital also learned that Smith also sent letters to BreakThrough BT Media Inc., and Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research ahead of Tuesday’s hearing requesting information surrounding alleged ties to Singham.

The groups also have reported ties to the pro-Nicolás Maduro demonstrations, which took place following the Trump administration’s arrest of the Venezuelan dictator last month.
Singham, who shares office space in Shanghai with Maku Group, a Chinese media company associated with pro-CCP propaganda, which Singham himself has helped fund, was the center of an often-referenced New York Times expose published in 2023.
The report was mentioned several times during the hearing, with witnesses and members of congress pointing to the detailed description of how Singham uses his dark money network in an attempt to erase traces of Chinese communist influence.
Singham couldn’t be subpoenaed to testify in Tuesday’s committee hearing because his Shanghai residency shields him from being legally obligated to appear before Congress.
His inability to be subpoenaed is just one example of the many loopholes that Singham utilizes to peddle money allegedly to promote the CCP.
«We see a sophisticated, multi-layered flow of capital funds that originate in Singham and Shanghai, Rep. Darin LaHood, R-Ill., said during the hearing. «[Funds] move through his private LLCs, and then are transferred to a donor-advised fund.»

«From there, the money is granted to Singham’s own nonprofits that act as a pass through, such as the Justice and Education Fund and the People Support Foundation, which subsequently distribute the funds to other groups in the Singham Network, like the media outlet Breakthrough News or the People’s Forum, which organizes protests that have turned violent,» LaHood added.

The New York Times reported that some of the organizations in Singham’s network had office addresses in suspicious locations like general UPS mailboxes, and that tracing the Shanghai resident’s cash flow from China to U.S. protests is challenging given his extensive efforts to minimize or cover up financial footprints.
«Singham attended Chinese Communist Party propaganda trainings, shared offices with Chinese state media in Shanghai, and exploited U.S. tax law to move tens of millions of dollars through donor-advised funds, primarily via Goldman Sachs,» Adam Sohn Network Contagion Research Institute Co-Founder and committee witness explained during the hearing.

El lanzamiento de la Crew-12 de SpaceX para la NASA no solo transportará a cuatro astronautas hacia el laboratorio orbital, sino que también responderá a una situación excepcional dentro de la EEI, que quedó con personal mínimo tras una evacuación médica sin precedentes.
El despegue del cohete Falcon 9, con la nave Crew Dragon Freedom, está previsto para el 13 de febrero a las (10:15 GMT) o 7:15 de la mañana, hora argentina, con destino a una estación que orbita a unos 400 kilómetros sobre la Tierra.

Jessica Meir es la comandante de la tripulación 12. Nacida en Caribou, en el estado de Maine, Meir integra el cuerpo de astronautas de la NASA desde 2013. La misión Crew-12 marca su segundo viaje al espacio y su segunda estadía en la Estación Espacial Internacional. Su debut orbital ocurrió en septiembre de 2019 a bordo de la Soyuz MS-15. Durante esa expedición permaneció 205 días en la EEI y protagonizó, junto con la astronauta Christina Koch, las tres primeras caminatas espaciales realizadas exclusivamente por mujeres.
Entre una misión y otra, Meir ocupó cargos de alto nivel dentro de la agencia espacial estadounidense: fue astronauta jefe de la NASA para el programa de tripulación comercial de SpaceX, asistente del astronauta jefe para el sistema de aterrizaje humano y parte de la división de Integración de Vuelo.
Jack Hathaway, piloto de la tripulación, fue seleccionado como astronauta en 2021, luego de una extensa carrera en la Armada de los Estados Unidos, donde alcanzó el rango de comandante. Su formación académica incluye estudios en la Academia Naval de los Estados Unidos, la Universidad de Cranfield, en Inglaterra, y la Escuela de Guerra Naval estadounidense.
Crew-12 representa su primer lanzamiento al espacio, aunque no su primer desafío al mando de una nave: a lo largo de su trayectoria como aviador naval acumuló más de 2500 horas de vuelo en 30 tipos distintos de aeronaves. Sophie Adenot es especialista de misión. La astronauta francesa Sophie Adenot inició su camino profesional en el estudio de la dinámica de vuelo espacial y más tarde obtuvo un Máster en Ciencias en Ingeniería de Factores Humanos en el Instituto Tecnológico de Massachusetts en 2004.

En 2012 fue seleccionado como cosmonauta y consolidó su experiencia espacial con un viaje previo a la Estación Espacial Internacional como integrante de la misión Crew-6 de SpaceX en 2023. En Crew-12 vuelve a la EEI como parte del contingente internacional que sostiene la presencia humana permanente en órbita.
El contexto que rodea a la Crew-12 explica por qué esta misión resulta clave para el funcionamiento de la EEI. La misión estaba inicialmente prevista para más adelante, pero el calendario cambió tras la salida anticipada de la Crew-11, que abandonó el laboratorio orbital por un problema de salud de uno de sus integrantes.
El regreso, ocurrido el 14 de enero, se convirtió en la primera evacuación médica en la historia del laboratorio que orbita la Tierra a 400 kilómetros, un hito que reveló los límites operativos de la vida humana en órbita prolongada.
La NASA no divulgó la identidad del tripulante afectado por razones de privacidad médica, pero el impacto operativo fue inmediato. Desde entonces, la estación quedó a cargo de una tripulación reducida de tres personas, integrada por el astronauta estadounidense Chris Williams y los cosmonautas rusos Sergey Kud-Sverchkov y Sergei Mikaev. Con solo tres personas para sostener las tareas de mantenimiento, monitoreo y experimentación científica, varias líneas de investigación quedaron en pausa o funcionaron a capacidad mínima.
En este escenario, la llegada de cuatro nuevos tripulantes no representa solo un relevo rutinario, sino una recuperación de la capacidad plena del laboratorio orbital. La EEI depende de la presencia humana constante para sostener experimentos en microgravedad, desde estudios biomédicos hasta pruebas de materiales y observaciones de la Tierra.
Cada astronauta cumple múltiples roles, y una dotación reducida limita tanto la cantidad como la complejidad de los trabajos científicos posibles.
La tripulación también refleja la continuidad de la cooperación internacional en el espacio, incluso en un contexto geopolítico tenso en la Tierra. La presencia conjunta de astronautas de la NASA, la ESA y Roscosmos confirma que la EEI sigue siendo uno de los pocos espacios de colaboración científica global sostenida.

La incorporación de Andrey Fedyaev ocurrió más tarde que la de sus compañeros, luego de que el cosmonauta Oleg Artemyev fuera retirado del manifiesto en diciembre, en un cambio que respondió a razones ajenas al programa científico.

Nicaragua’s government has blocked Cuban citizens from entering the Central American country without a visa in a move that eliminates a route for Cuban migration into the U.S.
For years, Cuban migrants would fly to Nicaragua and meet up with smugglers, who would then help them migrate north through Central America and Mexico to get to the U.S. border, according to The Associated Press.
However, Nicaragua’s government confirmed to the AP that on Sunday it suspended an exemption that allows Cubans to enter Nicaragua without a visa.
Nicaragua’s move comes after President Donald Trump in late January declared a national emergency via an executive order over Cuba, accusing the communist regime there of aligning with hostile foreign powers and terrorist groups while moving to punish countries that supply the island nation with oil.

From Guyana, migrants normally travel through the perilous jungle trenches of the Darien Gap dividing Colombia and Panama.

In Trump’s executive order, the president said Cuba aligns itself with and provides support for «numerous hostile countries, transnational terrorist groups, and malign actors adverse to the United States,» naming Russia, China, Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah.
The administration said Cuba hosts Russia’s largest overseas signals intelligence facility, which the order states attempts to steal sensitive U.S. national security information.
