Secretary of State Marco Rubio likened the assassination of Charlie Kirk to a «death in the family» for the White House, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that such political violence only threatens democracy around the world during a joint press conference Monday.

Rubio and Netanyahu were delivering joint remarks in Jerusalem after holding a meeting to discuss the ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza, when a reporter asked them about the ramifications of Kirk’s assassination.

Rubio called the assassination «horrifying» and «shocking» to those in the White House, including President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, who were both close with Kirk.

«He was a personal friend to a lot of people in that White House,» Rubio said of Kirk. «The president, to the vice president, to multiple people. It was a combination, you know, political assassination, but also death in the family type event.»

Kirk’s work had him engage in debates with people with opposing views and ideologies across college campuses and online. He was shot and killed while engaging in a debate on the campus of Utah Valley University on Wednesday at a Turning Point USA event.

Both Rubio and Netanyahu said the assassination marked a threat to democracy in its effort to «intimidate» and «silence» the effort to hold discourse between people who disagree not only in America, but around the world.

«Once a society loses the ability of people with strong disagreements to engage in discourse, then the only option you’re left with is either silence or violence,» Rubio said. «Neither one of which is acceptable. Both are very destructive.»

Netanyahu rhetorically asked how democracies can address those members of society who don’t believe in free speech and resort to violence.

«How do you actually address the threat of the poisonous incitement of the people who don’t believe in free speech, who believe in the imposition of their views on others? Speak of democracy, but actually want to trample democracy into the dust? How do you deal with that?» the prime minister asked.

Netanyahu then described democracy as «the nonviolent resolution of conflict within a society.»

«Nonviolent resolutions and decisions are made not by bullets, but by balance,» he said. «And these people increasingly are more and more violent.»

Harris resurrects campaign word salad when concerned pregnant mom asks about raising a son under Trump

NEW YORK — Former Vice President Kamala Harris tried to quell a nine-month-pregnant mom’s concerns over having a baby boy under the Trump administration, resurrecting a campaign phrase celebrating the «children of the community.»

«Part of how I was raised to think about things was that the children of the community are our children of the community. And we all have some, I think, responsibility — you can call it a moral responsibility, you can think of it in different ways — but to be invested in their well-being and success,» Harris said Wednesday evening from The Town Hall theater venue in Midtown Manhattan.

Harris was in New York City to launch her book tour to promote «107 Days,» which offers a detailed and personal retelling of her days on the 2024 presidential campaign trail after then-President Joe Biden dropped out amid mounting concerns over his mental acuity.

Harris only took a couple questions from the audience, including one from a nine-month-pregnant mom who was concerned about raising a son with a «good heart and moral compass» under «this current political climate.»

Harris quelled the mom’s concerns by reassuring her she would teach her son how to be «strong,» which would catapult him to «role model» status as an adult.

«To teach that our own children, that that is the way that we expect that they will live, which is to see the connection between themselves and others, to see the interdependence between themselves and others, and to have a sense of understanding that it’s a sign of strength to lift other people up,» she continued.

Harris argued that President Donald Trump has a «perverse notion» that strength is measured by «who you beat down,» which she rejected.

«I used to talk about it a lot in those 107 days, which is this perverse notion that is absolutely being pushed by this guy in the White House, which is to suggest that the measure of strength is based on who you beat down,» she said. «Instead, what I think everyone here understands, which is the true measure of strength, is based on who you lift up.»

Harris added that she was excited about the future of the unborn baby under his mom’s leadership.

«You’re going to teach him to be strong in every way that is important, and he will be a role model,» she continued. «And we are very, very excited for the future of that child.»

Harris repeatedly has used the phrase «the children of the community are the children of the community» while speaking during public events, including as vice president and when she was running for the presidency in 2024.

Conservative critics and others frequently mocked Harris’ «word salad» comments during the election cycle, including in September 2024 when she tied inflation to her «children of the community» phrase.

«I grew up understanding the children of the community are the children of the community, and we should all have a vested interest in ensuring that children can go grow up with the resources that they need to achieve their God-given potential,» Harris said, explaining she wanted to lower the cost of groceries for struggling families and vowing to take on big corporations who gouged customers.

Her roughly hourlong conversation Wednesday evening included taking a few shots at Trump, as well as celebrating how former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton served as her mentor and supporter throughout the 2024 election.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested he is ready to step down from office once Russia’s war on Ukraine ends.

During an interview with Axios Wednesday, the Ukrainian leader also maintained his primary focus remains achieving peace rather than securing another term.

«My goal is to finish the war,» Zelenskyy told Barak Ravid on The Axios Show following his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York and before heading back to Kyiv.

When pressed on if Ukraine would hold elections during a ceasefire, Zelenskyy was firm.

«So do you commit that if tomorrow, President Putin agrees for a ceasefire of three months, six months, whatever you will push forward to go for elections in Ukraine?» Ravid asked. «Yes,» Zelenskyy responded.

When asked whether he envisioned leading Ukraine in peacetime, Zelenskyy again suggested his intent to step aside once the war is won.

«If we will finish war with Russia? Yes,» Zelenskyy said, before clarifying that elections were not his personal ambition.

«It’s not my goal, elections,» he explained. «I want it very much, in a very difficult period of time, to be with my country, help my country. Yes, that is what I wanted. My goal is to finish the war,» he stated.

Zelenskyy, first elected in 2019 in a landslide, would have seen his five-year term end in May 2024 if the war with Russia had not started.

Now Zelenskyy has been in office for over six year which is beyond his original mandate.
