Serbian foreign minister proposes hosting Ukraine-Russia peace negotiations amid ongoing conflict

EXCLUSIVE: Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview that Belgrade is willing to host peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
«Serbia is also among the countries that are offering their good services, given our background, given the fact that we are friends with all the parties involved, to try and, if needed or if there’s an interest, host any kind of talks … on how to bring this horrible tragedy, which has resulted in so many deaths and so much destruction to an end,» the foreign minister said.
He said the war in Ukraine needs to come to an immediate end. «Serbia is, in principle, supportive of territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states in line with their U.N. borders,» including Ukraine.

The foreign minister’s offer to host peace talks between Ukraine and Russia comes after a proposed summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to be held in Hungary had been shelved.
Some analysts say Serbia would be a surprising choice to host the next round of ceasefire talks between Russia and Serbia, given the historic ties Russia and Serbia share, rooted in cultural and religious connections through the Serbian Orthodox Church.

While Serbia joined U.N. resolutions condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the referendums annexing parts of Ukrainian territory, Belgrade has refused to join Western sanctions targeting Russia over the invasion. Yet Djuric points out that both Ukraine and Russia support Serbia’s territorial integrity regarding Kosovo.
Djuric was in New York for a United Nations Security Council meeting on Kosovo. In 1999, a nearly three-month NATO bombing campaign ended a war between Serbian government forces and ethnic Albanian separatists in Kosovo. Serbian forces were pushed out, but Belgrade still considers Kosovo a Serbian province.

Some European officials have questioned Serbia’s commitment to European unity. Foreign Minister Djuric countered that Serbia values its place in Europe between East and West, while also noting the country’s close relationship with the U.S.
«Serbia is very proud of its independent foreign and security policy, which has been deeply rooted in the history of our nation and has enabled us to remain independent for centuries, although we are small,» he said. «We value very much our strategic partnership growing with the United States, for which there is bipartisan consensus in this country,» he said.

Djuric continued, «We value very much our strategic partnership growing with the United States, for which there is bipartisan consensus in this country. But also, we should bear in mind the fact that President Trump is by far the most popular foreign leader in our country and is the most popular leader for Serbs. I mean, in comparison to all other European countries, President Trump’s popularity in Serbia is unparalleled. More than 71% of the Serbs have a very favorable opinion of the U.S. president and of his policies, which really gives a very fertile ground for the further growth of our relationship.»
Yet Serbia’s ties with China, widely viewed as the United States’ main economic and military competitor on the world stage, have caused some concern in Washington.
The U.S. recently sanctioned Serbia’s Russian-owned oil company, Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), which is Serbia’s main supplier of oil and gasoline.
China conducted military exercises in Serbia in July despite stern warnings from the European Union, and Belgrade provides Beijing with a security foothold in Europe. Serbia has also purchased medium- and short-range surface-to-air missile systems from China.
Beijing’s biggest penetration into Serbia is in the economic space, as it has invested more than $10 billion in infrastructure projects over the last 15 years, according to the Center for European Policy Analysis.

«I also have to admit that we have very good economic relations with China, and China also supports our position on Kosovo in the sense that it recognizes Serbia and its U.N. borders. So they are, as a U.N. Security Council member, also an important partner for us,» Djuric said.
Djuric said great power competition between the U.S. and China is «above the pay grade of a small Balkan nation» and that the Serbian government will continue to focus on its economic development.

Domestically, Serbia has been roiled by student-led anti-corruption protests for nearly a year, demanding justice and accountability after the deaths of 16 people in the collapse of a railway station in the Serbian city of Novi Sad. Critics across the European Union have called out Serbian security forces for a heavy-handed response against the protesters.
Djuric said he wants to establish an honest dialogue with the protesters and find a way to de-escalate tensions.

«We treat the views of our citizens who disagree with the government with respect, and I don’t want to label any of them in any way. I believe that we are mature enough to have a dignified, decent, democratic dialogue, and we will always stand for democracy in Serbia,» Djuric said.
He continued, «Serbia’s government has shown accountability in the wake of the tragedy that happened in Novi Sad. Ministers have been replaced. Some of them have been called, held to account and even imprisoned. We’ve changed the government since then and included Professor [Djuro] Macut, who is our current prime minister, into the government, a university professor, and the vision of President Vucic remains to unify the people of Serbia, to overcome political divisions, and to create a society based on dialog and social cohesion rather than polarization.»

Iran’s tallest bridge collapses after reported US airstrikes; Iran threatens American allies in retaliation

Iran’s biggest bridge near Tehran has crashed down in a stunning scene captured on camera following reports of U.S. airstrikes, President Donald Trump announced Thursday, as he pressed the regime to make a deal before tensions escalate further.
The B1 highway bridge, a key link between Iran’s capital and the western city of Karaj, is considered the tallest in the Middle East and was only inaugurated earlier this year.
Iranian state TV reportedly warned of potential retaliation, claiming the state’s military has identified multiple bridges in American-allied Middle East nations as targets, according to Iran International.
Trump posted a video on social media capturing a massive plume of smoke and debris after the bridge’s apparent collapse.

The strike on the bridge was aimed at cutting drone and missile supply lines to Iranian firing units targeting U.S. and Israeli forces, Middle East outlet i24NEWS reported, citing sources.
Iranian state TV also said the bridge was hit twice, roughly an hour apart, resulting in civilian casualties, Fars News reported.

Fars News also reported that other areas of Karaj were struck.

The outlet reported that Iran is considering plans to rebuild the bridge with the help of its engineers and experts.
In retaliation, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has reportedly identified several bridges in American-allied nations across the Middle East as potential targets, including infrastructure in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and the Jordan-West Bank region.

El Gobierno de Uruguay identificará inmuebles vacíos para devolverlos al mercado de vivienda
El Ministerio de Vivienda y Ordenamiento Territorial (MVOT) de Uruguay informó que implementará un Laboratorio de Economía Circular Urbana, un instrumento con el que buscará detectar viviendas que estén sin habitar y reformarlas para volver a integrarlas al mercado inmobiliario. En esta primera etapa, se trabajará en dos ciudades del interior del país: Minas (a 120 kilómetros de Montevideo) y Paso de los Toros (a unos 280 kilómetros de la capital uruguaya).
“La idea es poder escalar este laboratorio a los efectos de abordar la problemática del vaciamiento de los centros urbanos y promover el desarrollo y del acceso al suelo en el mercado de la estrategia definida en el Plan Quinquenal de Vivienda”, declaró a directora de Ordenamiento Territorial, Paola Florio, en declaraciones difundidas por la Presidencia uruguaya.
En estas dos ciudades del interior de Uruguay habrá, por tanto, un plan piloto que busca promover la renovación y la rehabilitación urbana mediante acciones que buscan devolver al mercado viviendas vacías en mal estado, informó días atrás el semanario Búsqueda.
Este laboratorio lo que hará es identificar variaciones en esas zonas de Uruguay a lo largo de los años y, en base a eso, adaptar las normas a la situación actual.
¿Por qué se eligieron estos dos puntos de Uruguay? El MVOT analizó los datos de los últimos censos de población y discriminó las viviendas ocupadas y las desocupadas, y en qué condiciones (temporal, ocasional, para alquiler o vender, en reparación, en estado ruinoso o inhabitable) se encuentran. A partir de esto, se extrajeron algunos parámetros e indicadores.
En base a esa información fue que el ministerio identificó que en Minas hubo un incremento poblacional en los últimos años, pero señaló que la ciudad tiene un alto nivel de “vacancia” y de viviendas ruinosas en las áreas centrales de la ciudad, donde hay acceso a infraestructura y servicios, consignó el medio uruguayo.
A estos indicadores se le suma que en esa ciudad se instaló una sede de la Universidad Tecnológica, que atrajo público joven para la capital del departamento de Lavalleja.
En el caso de Paso de los Toros, la particularidad de la ciudad está dada porque en ese lugar se dieron cambios en el territorio por la instalación de la segunda planta de celulosa de UPM. Pese a las transformaciones en el desarrollo habitacional y de infraestructura de servicios, la ciudad también tiene un alto nivel de vacancia.
La intención del ministerio es que los inmuebles deteriorados puedan ser devueltos al mercado en condiciones, innovando en la aplicación de políticas particulares como la expropiación, aplicando el derecho de preferencia y otros programas de esa cartera.
“Hay que generar la demanda y también la oferta, tanto de bienes como de programas que permitan adecuarse a cada una de las necesidades que surjan en las distintas viviendas”, declaró Florio a Búsqueda.
“Es importantísimo para nosotros poder demostrar que, con una adecuada articulación de todos los programas, es posible avanzar en línea a una mayor eficiencia en las ciudades”, agregó.
Otro piloto previsto por el ministerio es la supervisión del uso del suelo a través de una policía territorial, que mediante inteligencia artificial e imágenes aéreas ayudará a las municipalidades a asegurar el cumplimiento de las normas y el correcto uso del suelo. Esto está pensado principalmente para áreas rurales, en las que el acceso a las tareas de supervisión es más complejo.
La policía territorial también funcionará en una primera instancia en Villa Serrana, una zona turística de Lavalleja, y en un área rural del departamento de Canelones. Habrá drones que sobrevolarán esos lugares y la información será procesada con inteligencia artificial, que permitirá conocer el uso efectivo que tiene un determinado desarrollo.
“La inteligencia artificial permitirá identificar la variación del suelo. Es decir, cuánto varió de un vuelo a otro y detectar si esa variación es producto o no de la intervención humana y si significa un problema”, señaló la jerarca.

Democrats are jubilant over the sudden ouster of Pam Bondi as head of the Department of Justice, with leading party members taking to social media to say «good riddance.»
Democrats rejoiced on X after President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday to confirm reports that Bondi was leaving her position as U.S. attorney general.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., wrote, «Good riddance. Pam Bondi was the wrong choice from the start.»
He went on to assert that «the rot at the Department of Justice begins and ends with Donald Trump,» writing, «As long as his focus is on using DOJ as a tool for revenge and not law enforcement, the cover-up of the Epstein files, along with the countless other problems at DOJ, will continue.»

Prominent Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., a former Democratic presidential candidate, claimed that Bondi «will be remembered for blocking the release of the Epstein files, weaponizing the DOJ to go after Trump’s political opponents, and handing out merger approvals as political favors.»
«Under AG Pam Bondi, the DOJ became a cesspool of corruption,» she asserted, piling on another, «Good riddance.»
Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who during his time in the House of Representatives oversaw the Jan. 6 hearings, reacted by writing that Bondi «oversaw an unprecedented weaponization of the Justice Department that brought our nation’s rule of law to its knees.»
«Countless and baseless political investigations, hundreds of career law enforcement professionals purged, a massive cover-up of the Epstein files, and a wholesale effort to turn the department into a criminal law firm representing the person of the president instead of the American people,» Schiff alleged, adding, «But Pam Bondi was merely a symptom of Donald Trump’s chronic allergy to our nation’s laws.»
On the House side, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., wrote, «Pam Bondi is a partisan, petulant, political hack. And now she’s GONE.»
«Pam Bondi has been fired. Good riddance,» Jeffries wrote in another post, adding, «Pete Hegseth is next.»
«Keep the pressure on every single one of these extremists,» he wrote.
House Democratic firebrand Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, who recently lost her bid for the party’s Senate nomination in Texas, went on a profane rant after the news broke.
«Well… first it was Kristi Noem, now it’s Pam Bondi… it would be too much like right that Pete be next,» she gloated. «I see a theme. He will throw the incompetent women under the bus a lot faster than the incompetent men.»
«Let’s just agree that America needs a ‘do over,’» wrote Crockett. «The President nominated these awful people, the Republican controlled Senate confirmed them, and well… too many people thought we should give this much power to the P—- grabbing, 6x bankruptcy filing, 34 count convicted felon bestie of Epstein. WE NEED A DO OVER… but only if America would do better.»
Rep. Yassamin Ansari, D-Ariz., said Bondi «must still comply with our subpoena and testify before the [House] Oversight Committee about her criminally botched Epstein Files release.»
«She may be fired, but she is not above the law,» wrote Ansari. «We won’t stop fighting until every victim gets justice and everyone complicit in this cover up is held accountable, no matter how powerful they are.»

Democrats were not the only ones happy about Bondi’s firing.
Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., who has in recent months defied both her party and the administration, accused Bondi of having «handled the Epstein Files in a terrible manner and seriously undermined President Trump.»
Mace claimed that Bondi «has stonewalled every effort to hold the guilty accountable,» adding that «the American people deserve an Attorney General who is transparent and delivers real accountability.»
Following reports that Trump is considering replacing Bondi with current Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, Mace wrote if these reports are true, «I welcome it.»
«I look forward to a new Attorney General committed to getting justice for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein,» she wrote.
However, Bondi was not universally reviled following the news.
Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., defended Bondi, calling her «a great friend and one of the best lawyers I’ve ever met.»
«She did an incredible job as Florida’s Attorney General when I was Governor, and she has been an incredible U.S. Attorney General,» wrote Scott. «Ann and I are proud of all Pam has accomplished to make America safe again and restore the rule of law. Thank you, [Pam Bondi]!»
Former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz also came to Bondi’s defense. Gaetz resigned from Congress to be Trump’s attorney general before withdrawing his nomination amid mounting resistance, clearing the way for Bondi.
Gaetz wrote, «Pam Bondi will be known as one of the great crime fighters of our time. She is a patriot who has all of our appreciation.»

He predicted that Todd Blanche, who Trump announced will be temporarily filling in for Bondi as interim U.S. attorney general, will likewise «do a great job for the Trump/Vance Administration and us all.»
Blanche himself took to social media to write, «Pam Bondi led this Department with strength and conviction and I’m grateful for her leadership and friendship.»
«Thank you to President Trump for the trust and the opportunity to serve as Acting Attorney General,» he continued. «We will continue backing the blue, enforcing the law, and doing everything in our power to keep America safe.»

Political analyst Jonathan Turley wrote that «the news of the departure of Pam Bondi hit with a thunderclap in Washington.»
«There were some recent rumors, but nothing concrete in the prior week. Bondi is the ultimate loyalist who, like Todd Blanche (the new acting AG), earned her bones in the trenches with the President in impeachment and criminal trials,» he wrote.
Turley predicted that «the move to Blanche will be seamless» and said that if Zeldin is selected, he «has the advantage of being a known and popular figure on Capitol Hill.»
