Spain’s prime minister sparks outrage over alleged nuclear threat against Israel

The anti-Israel Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, is under fire from Israel and Spaniards alike for his alleged comments to use nuclear weapons against the Jewish state.
The socialist Prime Minister Sanchez, said in a speech last week that «Spain, as you know, doesn’t have nuclear bombs, aircraft carriers, or large oil reserves,» adding, «We alone can’t stop the Israeli offensive. But that doesn’t mean we won’t stop trying. Because there are causes worth fighting for, even if winning them isn’t in our sole power.»
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, accused his Spanish counterpart of making a «blatant genocidal threat to the world’s only Jewish state. Apparently, the Spanish Inquisition, the expulsion of the Jews of Spain and the systematic mass murder of Jews in the Holocaust, is not enough for Sanchez.»
The Times of Israel reported that Spain summoned Israel’s top diplomat in the country to «categorically reject the false and slanderous statements from the Israeli prime minister’s office.»

Juan Caldes, the European advocacy coordinator at the European Jewish Association, told Fox News Digital that, «It is beyond hypocritical and cynical to call Israel a genocidal state when one mentions how unfortunate the fact that Spain doesn’t have nuclear weapons to stop Israel. That is the definition of a genocide, when there is a deliberate intent to destroy a specific group (be it ethnic, religious or racial).»
Caldez, who is Spanish, said, «Sanchez embraced the Palestinian cause in order to avoid talking about his own personal corruption scandals that surround some of his family members and also many of the corruption scandals involving many of his colleagues from the Socialist Party.»
He claimed, «Sanchez’s coalition (of socialists and communists) have been expressing very antisemitic views since Oct. 7th.» He cited Yolanda Diaz, vice president of Spain, who in a televised speech last year, said, «from the river to the sea Palestine will be free … In other words, from the Jordan River until the Mediterranean state a one-state solution erasing all Jews from the land.»

According to Caldes, «Sanchez’s rhetoric and actions show how embedded antisemitism is part of the Spanish government. That being said, it is still important not to conflate it with the majority of the Spanish people who do not hold antisemitic views.»
Santiago Abascal, the leader of the right-wing Vox Party, said, «Sanchez would like to have nuclear weapons … but not to defend Spain. To defend Hamas.»
According to statistics from The Jewish Agency for Israel in September, the size of the Spanish Jewish community numbered 12,900 out of a population of just over 49 million.

Last year Spain experienced «the largest increase in modern history in antisemitic speech, incidents, and attacks, up 321% compared to 2023 and 567% compared to 2022,» according to a report by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain.
Fox News Digital reached out to Spain’s embassy in Washington and its foreign ministry for comment.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas received a warm and extended round of applause from world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly during a speech in which he slammed Israel’s «genocide» in Gaza, insisted his party is ready to take over security and governance of the Gaza Strip — and appealed to President Donald Trump for peace.
And after a number of European states recognized a Palestinian state over the past week, Abbas demanded «full membership in the United Nations.»
«It should be noted that we have already recognized Israel’s right to exist in 1988 and in 1993,» Abbas said Thursday in a virtual address. «And we still recognize this right.»
The PA leader addressed the U.N. General Assembly virtually after the State Department refused to approve his visa to travel to the New York headquarters, citing terrorism support.

Abbas said his political party is «ready to bear full responsibility for governance and security» of the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian Authority currently administers parts of the West Bank under the Oslo Accords, but its authority is limited. It formally claims Gaza as part of the Palestinian territories, but has not had control of it since 2007. Hamas has remained the de facto authority there.
Abbas said that under PA governance «Hamas would not have control.» He said Hamas would need to hand over its weapons to the PA and insisted he did not want to rule an «armed state.»
«We want a modern civilian state that is free of violence, weapons and extremism, one that respects law, human rights and invests in people, development, technology and education — not in wars and conflict.»
At the same time, Abbas claimed Jerusalem is the «eternal capital» for Palestinians.

«The dawn of freedom will emerge, and the flag of Palestine will fly high in our skies as a symbol of dignity, steadfastness and being free from the yoke of occupation,» the president said. «Palestine is ours. Jerusalem is the jewel of our hearts and our eternal capital. We will not leave our homeland. We will not leave our lands.»
His comments came after Trump presented a 21-point peace plan to Arab leaders this week to bring peace to Gaza.
Separately, the U.N. General Assembly approved a plan to implement a two-state solution to end the war.
«We are ready to work with U.S. President Donald Trump and with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France, the United Nations and all partners to implement the peace plan.»
He denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plans for what Abbas called a «Greater Israel.»
«The Israeli Prime Minister announced a plan for what he calls Greater Israel, which we reject and completely deplore.»
Netanyahu’s office declined to comment on the Palestinian leader’s speech.

The Palestinian leader’s comments came as Israel has deepened its offensive into Gaza City and said the option to annex the West Bank is on the table.
Abbas denounced settler violence in the West Bank, which he said has ramped up as Israeli military forces have moved in.

While he claimed Israel is waging «genocide, destruction, starvation and displacement,» he said the PA rejects the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel.
«These actions do not represent the Palestinian people, nor do they represent their just struggle for freedom and independence.»

«We reject confusing the solidarity to the Palestinian cause and the issue of antisemitism, which is something that we reject based on our values and principles,» Abbas went on.
The president noted the ineffectiveness of the U.N., which frequently passes resolutions of condemnations against Israeli action that have no real effect, and expressed frustration that international peace negotiations have not ended the war in Gaza.
«More than 1,000 resolutions at the United Nations. Not one of them was implemented. There have been many efforts and many international initiatives without reaching an end to this tragic situation. The Palestinian people are living under the yoke of occupation.»

NEW YORK — Former Vice President Kamala Harris tried to quell a nine-month-pregnant mom’s concerns over having a baby boy under the Trump administration, resurrecting a campaign phrase celebrating the «children of the community.»
«Part of how I was raised to think about things was that the children of the community are our children of the community. And we all have some, I think, responsibility — you can call it a moral responsibility, you can think of it in different ways — but to be invested in their well-being and success,» Harris said Wednesday evening from The Town Hall theater venue in Midtown Manhattan.
Harris was in New York City to launch her book tour to promote «107 Days,» which offers a detailed and personal retelling of her days on the 2024 presidential campaign trail after then-President Joe Biden dropped out amid mounting concerns over his mental acuity.

Harris quelled the mom’s concerns by reassuring her she would teach her son how to be «strong,» which would catapult him to «role model» status as an adult.
«To teach that our own children, that that is the way that we expect that they will live, which is to see the connection between themselves and others, to see the interdependence between themselves and others, and to have a sense of understanding that it’s a sign of strength to lift other people up,» she continued.

«I used to talk about it a lot in those 107 days, which is this perverse notion that is absolutely being pushed by this guy in the White House, which is to suggest that the measure of strength is based on who you beat down,» she said. «Instead, what I think everyone here understands, which is the true measure of strength, is based on who you lift up.»

Harris added that she was excited about the future of the unborn baby under his mom’s leadership.
«You’re going to teach him to be strong in every way that is important, and he will be a role model,» she continued. «And we are very, very excited for the future of that child.»
Harris repeatedly has used the phrase «the children of the community are the children of the community» while speaking during public events, including as vice president and when she was running for the presidency in 2024.
Conservative critics and others frequently mocked Harris’ «word salad» comments during the election cycle, including in September 2024 when she tied inflation to her «children of the community» phrase.
«I grew up understanding the children of the community are the children of the community, and we should all have a vested interest in ensuring that children can go grow up with the resources that they need to achieve their God-given potential,» Harris said, explaining she wanted to lower the cost of groceries for struggling families and vowing to take on big corporations who gouged customers.

Harris kicked off her book tour in New York City before traveling to cities from coast to coast to promote her new book, which was released Tuesday.
Her roughly hourlong conversation Wednesday evening included taking a few shots at Trump, as well as celebrating how former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton served as her mentor and supporter throughout the 2024 election.

Corea del Sur efectuó disparos de advertencia contra una embarcación norcoreana que violó su frontera marítima
El ejército de Corea del Sur disparó tiros de advertencia el viernes después de que un barco mercante de Corea del Norte cruzó la frontera marítima en el mar Amarillo, lo que obligó a la nave a retirarse, informó el Estado Mayor Conjunto (JCS).
El barco ingresó en aguas surcoreanas alrededor de las 5 de la mañana, cuando cruzó la Línea Límite del Norte (LLN) cerca de la isla surcoreana de Baengnyeong, señaló el JCS en un comunicado.
“Nuestras fuerzas emitieron señales de advertencia y dispararon tiros de advertencia, después de lo cual el buque se retiró más allá de nuestras aguas”, indicó la institución, que agregó que respondió “de acuerdo con los procedimientos” y que sigue “monitoreando de cerca los movimientos de Corea del Norte”.
No hubo reportes inmediatos de que fuerzas norcoreanas respondieran con disparos o con otro tipo de acción militar.
El incidente se produjo dos días después de que Corea del Sur realizara ejercicios de tiro real en la LLN, una línea que el régimen de Corea del Norte no reconoce formalmente. Pyongyang sostiene que la frontera marítima debería estar más al sur, lo que ha provocado numerosos enfrentamientos en el pasado.
La franja occidental del mar Amarillo ha sido escenario de choques militares, entre ellos el bombardeo norcoreano de 2010 contra la isla de Yeonpyeong y el presunto torpedeo de la corbeta surcoreana Cheonan el mismo año, hechos que dejaron 50 muertos.
En 2022, las dos Coreas intercambiaron disparos de advertencia después de que otro barco norcoreano cruzara la frontera marítima disputada.
En enero de 2024, el líder dictador norcoreano Kim Jong-un reiteró que su país no reconoce la LLN, establecida por el mando de la ONU al final de la guerra de Corea (1950-53), conflicto que concluyó con un armisticio y no con un tratado de paz.
El ejército surcoreano recordó que permanece en un estado de preparación elevada para proteger firmemente sus aguas territoriales.
El presidente surcoreano Lee Jae Myung, que asumió en junio, ha prometido una postura más moderada hacia Pyongyang que la de su predecesor, Yoon Suk Yeol. En un discurso el martes ante la Asamblea General de la ONU, Lee afirmó que trabajará para poner fin al “círculo vicioso” de tensiones con Corea del Norte y aseguró que su gobierno no buscará un cambio de régimen.
El presidente de Corea del Sur, Lee Jae-myung, y su homólogo de Polonia, Karol Nawrocki, acordaron este miércoles ampliar la cooperación bilateral en materia de defensa. El tratado busca consolidar la asociación estratégica fortalecida a raíz de la guerra entre Ucrania y Rusia y de los recientes episodios de intromisión territorial por parte de drones rusos en espacio aéreo polaco.
“Ambos líderes reconocieron el continuo desarrollo de la cooperación bilateral en la industria de defensa, en particular en áreas como los tanques, y acordaron ampliarla para lograr resultados mutuamente beneficiosos para las empresas de ambos países”, señaló un comunicado de la oficina presidencial surcoreana.
Durante la cumbre en Nueva York, Lee manifestó su esperanza de que la colaboración alcance también el sector de submarinos y respaldó el avance del programa impulsado por Polonia. Nawrocki, por su parte, destacó que los tanques K2 surcoreanos se entregan conforme a los plazos estipulados en los contratos con Varsovia.
Polonia se ha posicionado como un destino clave para las exportaciones surcoreanas de defensa, con contratos por miles de millones de dólares que contemplan tanques K2, obuses K9, cazas FA-50 y lanzacohetes Chunmoo, algunos a ensamblarse en territorio polaco. Ambos países firmaron en marzo un plan de acción hasta 2028 que convertirá a Polonia en centro europeo de ensamblaje.
