Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’ clears final hurdle before House-wide vote

The House Rules Committee has teed up President Donald Trump’s «big, beautiful bill» for a chamber-wide vote Wednesday after a nearly 12-hour-long session debating the massive piece of legislation.
It now heads to the entire chamber for consideration, where several Republicans have already signaled they’re concerned with various aspects of the measure.
Just two Republicans voted against reporting the bill out of committee – Reps. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., and Chip Roy, R-Texas, conservatives who had expressed reservations with the bill earlier on Tuesday. No Democrats voted to advance it, while the remaining seven Republicans did.
The majority of Republican lawmakers appear poised to advance the bill, however, believing it’s the best possible compromise vehicle to make Trump’s campaign promises a reality.

«This bill is President Trump’s agenda, and we are making it law. House Republicans are ready to finish the job and put the One Big Beautiful Bill on President Trump’s desk in time for Independence Day,» House GOP leaders said in a joint statement after the Senate passed the bill on Tuesday.
The House Rules Committee acts as the final gatekeeper before most pieces of legislation get a chamber-wide vote.
Democrats attempted to delay the panel’s hours-long hearing by offering multiple amendments that were shot down along party lines.
They criticized the bill as a bloated tax cut giveaway to wealthy Americans, at the expense of Medicaid coverage for lower-income people. Democrats have also accused Republicans of adding billions of dollars to the national debt, chiefly by extending Trump’s 2017 tax cuts.
«I don’t know what it means to be a fiscal hawk, because if you vote for this bill, you’re adding $4 trillion to the debt,» Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Calif., said during debate on the measure.
«Republicans have gone on TV for months and months and months solemnly insisting to the American people that this bill is going to cut the debt, that this will not hurt anybody on Medicaid, just those lazy bums and, you know, unworthy people.»

But Republicans have said the bill is targeted relief for middle and working-class Americans, citing provisions temporarily allowing people to deduct taxes from tipped and overtime wages, among others.
«If you vote against this bill, you’re voting against the child tax credit being at $2,200 per child. At the end of this year, it will drop to $1,000. That makes a huge impact to 40 million hardworking Americans. And it’s simply, when they vote no, they’re voting against a $2,200 child tax credit, and they’re okay with $1,000,» House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., said.

The bill numbers more than 900 pages and includes Trump’s priorities on taxes, the border, defense, energy and the national debt.
An initial version passed the House in May by just one vote, but the Senate has since made multiple key modifications to Medicaid, tax cuts and the debt limit.
Moderates are wary of the Senate measures that would shift more Medicaid costs to states that expanded their programs under ObamaCare, while conservatives have said those cuts are not enough to offset the additional spending in other parts of the bill.
Several key measures were also removed during the «Byrd Bath,» a process in the Senate where legislation is reviewed so that it can be fast-tracked under the budget reconciliation process – which must adhere to a strict set of fiscal rules.
Among those conservative critics, Reps. Scott Perry, R-Pa., and Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., introduced resolutions to change the Senate version to varying degrees.
Ogles’ amendment would have most dramatically changed the bill. If passed, it would have reverted the legislation back to the House version.
Perry’s amendments were aimed at tightening the rollback of green energy tax credits created by the former Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act.
Another amendment by Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., would have restored certain Second Amendment-related provisions stripped out by the Byrd Bath.

Any changes to the legislation would have forced it back into the Senate, likely delaying Republicans’ self-imposed Fourth of July deadline to get the bill onto Trump’s desk.
The full House is expected to begin considering the bill at 9 a.m. ET Wednesday.
Sometime that morning, House lawmakers will vote on whether to begin debating the bill, a procedural measure known as a «rule vote.»
If that’s cleared, a final vote on the bill itself is expected sometime later Wednesday.
Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., conceded on Tuesday evening that poor weather in Washington that forced a number of flight delays could also weigh on Wednesday’s attendance – depending on how many lawmakers are stuck outside the capital.
«We’re monitoring the weather closely,» Johnson told reporters. «There’s a lot of delays right now.»
With all lawmakers present, Republicans can only afford to lose three votes to still advance both the rule vote and the final bill without any Democratic support.

“Irán tiene cámaras y grabadoras ¿por qué emite un comunicado escrito? Creo que sabemos por qué”, sostuvo Hegseth, quien añadió que Khamenei siente “miedo” y que gran parte de su familia, incluido su padre y anterior líder supremo, ha muerto en los ataques.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Vice President JD Vance hinted California may be targeted next with major fraud investigations and revealed that fraud discovered in the Minneapolis area has «probably been $19 billion at least» since the administration began investigating in the Twin Cities.
In January, Vance announced an interagency task force within the Department of Justice that specifically targets fraud, and reports suggest the vice president will soon lead a new task force established through a Trump executive order.
«We know there’s a lot of fraud in California, and we’re trying to get to the bottom of exactly what it looks like and what we’ve done in the Trump administration,» Vance said in response to a question by Fox News Digital.
He took questions after a speech Friday afternoon at the Power House event center that focused on the economy, public safety and election integrity.

«And the president has really empowered us to do this, is to take the first national look at the way the American people have been defrauded over many, many years,» Vance added.

In January, President Donald Trump was critical of California, announcing the «fraud investigation of California has begun» and saying the state was «more corrupt than Minnesota.»
Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom defended the Golden State’s fraud protection in February, saying that California’s Franchise Tax Board has blocked billions in fraud in recent years.
«In the actual world where adults govern, Gavin Newsom has been cleaning house,» a spokesperson for Newsom told Fox News Digital. «Since taking office, he’s blocked over $125 billion in fraud, arrested criminal parasites leaching off of taxpayers and protected taxpayers from the exact kind of scam artists Trump celebrates, excuses and pardons.
«Gavin Newsom runs a state,» the spokesperson added. «Donald Trump runs his mouth. Again and again, we’ve shown that the programs they are attempting to call out are programs the federal government is administering, not the state. We suggest they get their house in order.»
Vance on Friday pointed to fraud that has occurred in Minnesota, telling Fox News Digital and reporters that taxpayer dollars are footing the bill for the illegal misuse of funds.

It’s not just your tax dollars that are being stolen out of your wallet and given to fraudsters.
«It’s the fact that the services we need to deliver to needy people are not getting delivered because they’re going to fraudsters.»
Federal investigators in Minnesota launched a probe in 2022 into the nonprofit Feeding Our Future, which prosecutors later identified as a key player in what became one of the largest COVID-19 relief fraud cases uncovered.

As the investigation progressed, authorities said they uncovered roughly $250 million in fraudulent claims, with 78 people ultimately charged in the alleged scheme.
Prosecutors have also suggested the broader fraud linked to related programs could total as much as $9 billion.
Independent journalist Nick Shirley took to the streets of Minneapolis in late December 2025 and discovered one organization that claimed to be a type of daycare, where the word «learning» was misspelled on the front door of the business.

Vance poked fun at the organization, which has since shut its doors, during his response to Fox News Digital reporter’s question Friday.

«When you have a Somali fraudster come into the United States illegally and then set up a school to collect tax dollars, and the name of the school is the Quality Learning Center, but when they put the sign up, they take the ‘n’ out. So, it says ‘Quality Learing Center,’» Vance explained.
«I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to send my kids to a school where they can’t spell ‘learn.’ That group was getting millions of dollars from the American taxpayer.»

Así lo señala una investigación del consorcio internacional de científicos climáticos World Weather Attribution, publicada en The Guardian, el diario británico.
Durante las últimas semanas, el estado de Minas Gerais, uno de los principales polos productores de café arábica en Brasil, ha registrado lluvias excepcionales y deslizamientos que han dejado decenas de víctimas mortales y obligado a miles de personas a abandonar sus viviendas.
El municipio de Juiz de Fora, particularmente afectado, marcó un récord histórico de precipitaciones: en febrero se acumularon más de 750 mm (29,5 pulgadas) de lluvia, lo que triplica la media habitual para el periodo y supera en 65% el máximo previo de 1988. Según el estudio, Juiz de Fora es una de las diez ciudades de Brasil con mayor proporción de residentes en zonas de alto riesgo de deslizamientos.

Las precipitaciones excesivas del último mes han favorecido la propagación de enfermedades en los cafetales, lo que pone en riesgo una recuperación de la producción esperada para este año.
La volatilidad en las cosechas ya se refleja en el mercado internacional. El precio del café molido en el Reino Unido, por ejemplo, aumentó cerca de 25 % en los últimos cinco años, según Gareth Redmond-King, jefe del programa internacional del Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, una organización británica sin fines de lucro. Este fenómeno es atribuido en parte a los problemas de abastecimiento derivados tanto de Brasil como de Vietnam, otro importante exportador global.

Por este motivo, el informe insiste en la necesidad de eliminar con rapidez los gases de efecto invernadero procedentes del petróleo, el gas y el carbón para mitigar futuros riesgos.
La crisis climática en Brasil no solo afecta a los productores y habitantes locales. Expertos británicos resaltan que el aumento de los eventos extremos en regiones clave de la agricultura mundial ya se traduce en mayores costos para los consumidores de alimentos y productos básicos en países como el Reino Unido. La interconexión de los mercados hace que la disponibilidad y el precio del café —y otros productos agrícolas— estén directamente condicionados por la estabilidad climática en Brasil.
El consenso entre científicos y especialistas en política climática es que alcanzar las emisiones netas cero constituye la única estrategia efectiva para limitar la frecuencia e intensidad de estos fenómenos y salvaguardar la seguridad alimentaria global.

Frente a este escenario, “la ciencia muestra que el riesgo está creciendo; ahora necesitamos la acción urgente que justifica”, afirmó Friederike Otto, profesora de ciencias climáticas en Imperial College London.
Recomiendan la construcción de refugios seguros, el fortalecimiento de los sistemas de alerta temprana y la mejora de la planificación urbana, con especial atención a las comunidades más vulnerables asentadas en zonas de alto riesgo. “La magnitud de esta tragedia es inmensa y evidencia cuán vulnerables pueden ser nuestras comunidades de ladera a medida que el planeta sigue calentándose”, señaló Regina Rodrigues, profesora en la Universidad Federal de Santa Catarina.
Al mismo tiempo, subrayan que la reducción de emisiones contaminantes es esencial para disminuir la exposición de la población y la economía a los impactos de fenómenos climáticos extremos. La experiencia reciente en Brasil, según los investigadores, exige actuar rápido para proteger tanto a las personas como a los mercados internacionales.
