WATCH: AOC leaves door open for 2028 presidential bid as campaign buzz soars
EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., did not rule out 2028 presidential aspirations when asked by Fox News Digital about the viral video that had pundits guessing if she was soft-launching her campaign.
«I think what people should be most concerned about is the fact that Republicans are trying to cut Medicaid right now, and people’s healthcare is in danger. That’s really what my central focus is,» the New York Democrat said when asked if she was considering a run for president, despite President Donald Trump’s assurances that he wouldn’t cut Medicaid.
«This moment isn’t about campaigns, or elections, or about politics. It’s about making sure people are protected, and we’ve got people that are getting locked up for exercising their First Amendment rights. We’re getting 2-year-olds that are getting deported into cells in Honduras. We’re getting people that are about to get kicked off of Medicaid. That, to me, is most important,» Ocasio-Cortez said on Capitol Hill on Trump’s 100th day in office.
Ocasio-Cortez has crisscrossed the United States with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on the «Fighting Oligarchy» tour, and Americans have been speculating about whether the New York Democrat is launching a shadow campaign for president.

FiveThirtyEight founder and prominent pollster Nate Silver signaled earlier this month that Ocasio-Cortez is the leading Democrat to pick up the party’s presidential nomination in 2028. In a draft 2028 pick with FiveThirtyEight’s Galen Druke, Silver chose Ocasio-Cortez as his top choice to lead the Democratic Party’s presidential ticket.

Americans have been reposting Ocasio-Cortez’s video across X, pointing to the video as proof of her 2028 presidential ambitions. «Get ready America. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will almost undoubtedly run for president in 2028,» political reporter Eric Daugherty said in response to the video.

As rumors swirl over Ocasio-Cortez’s ambition for higher office, back at home in New York, a Siena College poll found Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s favorability is down, at 39% among New York state voters questioned in the poll, which was conducted April 14-16. Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez’s favorability soared to 47%.
The longtime senator from New York faced pushback from the Democratic Party in March for supporting the Republican budget bill backed by Trump that averted a government shutdown and stirred up outrage among congressional Democrats who planned to boycott the bill.
That growing disapproval among Democrats was reflected in the poll, and the shifting perception comes as DNC vice chair David Hogg, through his political arm, Leaders We Deserve, faced blowback from the DNC this week for investing $20 million into electing younger Democrats to safe House Democrat seats.

Ocasio-Cortez raked in a massive $9.6 million over the past three months. The record-breaking fundraising haul was one of the biggest ever for any House lawmaker. Ocasio-Cortez’s team highlighted that the fundraising came from 266,000 individual donors, with an average contribution of just $21.

Democratic strategist Joe Caiazzo, a veteran of Sanders’ 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns, said that Ocasio-Cortez appears to be one of a small group of politicians in his party who «are test ballooning a potential 2028 run for the presidency» as Democrats search «for a path out of the wilderness.»
«We’re not really sure who or what it will be, but one of the pathways there is to drill down on economic populism. There are many people that occupy that lane and she is one of them. And there’s clearly energy behind what her and Bernie Sanders did criss-crossing the country.»

Colin Reed, a Republican strategist, said Ocasio-Cortez «shouldn’t be discounted» by Democrats «who are standing in her way» of running for whichever office she decides to seek — whether as a U.S. senator or president of the United States.
While Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders garnered plenty of national attention as they jetsetted across the country, Reed said their passion and energy might invigorate the progressive portion of the Democratic Party, but «her ideas are way too outside the mainstream to ever be electable at a nationwide level.»
«Ultimately, in a Democratic base there’s always going to be a percentage of voters who are drawn to that message. The issue they run to is it’s just not the majority of Americans. The majority of Americans don’t want to transform our country into some sort of ‘European-style government rules all’ vision. That’s why America was founded in the first place — to get away from oppression, from an overbearing, overreaching government,» Reed said.

As Democrats struggle to land on a consistent message and search for a clear party leader following Republicans’ November wins, there is an opportunity within the party to dominate the national Democratic narrative, Reed explained.
«Chaos loves a vacuum, and right now, there is a vacuum in leadership in the Democratic Party, and thus chaos is ruling the roost,» Reed said.

«As long as those two are out there, they’re going to get attention because nobody else is doing anything. The house of cards will come crumbling down, especially when you’ve got two folks out there, Sen. Sanders and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez, holding themselves out as climate warriors as they jet around the country on private jets spewing untold carbon emissions into the air. That hypocrisy is one that’s tough for a lot of folks’ stomachs,» Reed added.

El hallazgo de un núcleo interno sólido en Marte transformó el panorama científico acerca de la evolución del planeta rojo. Investigadores internacionales, basándose en datos sísmicos recogidos por la misión InSight de la NASA, determinaron que el núcleo marciano contiene una esfera sólida en su interior, descartando la creencia anterior de que era completamente líquido.
Este descubrimiento revela que el núcleo interno sólido representa cerca de una quinta parte del radio de Marte, cifra similar a la del núcleo terrestre, aunque los científicos advierten que la coincidencia podría ser fortuita, según reportó Smithsonian Magazine.
El análisis exhaustivo de los registros sísmicos de InSight, obtenidos entre 2018 y 2022, permitió a los equipos dirigidos por Daoyuan Sun (Universidad de Ciencia y Tecnología de China) y Constantinos Charalambous (Imperial College London) detectar la existencia de este núcleo sólido. Durante su período de operación, el módulo registró 1.319 eventos sísmicos en la superficie marciana.
Los científicos estudiaron el comportamiento de las ondas sísmicas generadas por “marsquakes” y por impactos de meteoritos, y observaron que, al atravesar ciertas zonas del manto, algunas ondas desaceleraban, lo que permitió identificar heterogeneidades a pequeña escala atribuidas a restos de grandes impactos sufridos por el planeta en su juventud.
Charalambous explicó a Smithsonian Magazine que el manto de Marte conserva vestigios antiguos: “Lo que estamos viendo es un manto salpicado de fragmentos antiguos. Su supervivencia hasta hoy nos indica que el manto de Marte ha evolucionado de forma muy lenta durante miles de millones de años. En la Tierra, características como estas probablemente habrían sido borradas en su mayor parte”, afirmó el investigador. La ausencia de placas tectónicas permitió que la estructura interna de Marte permanezca casi inalterada desde su formación, lo que convierte al planeta en una cápsula del tiempo geológica.
El estudio publicado en Nature y encabezado por Sun detalló la composición y proporción del núcleo sólido. “Nuestros resultados sugieren que Marte tiene un núcleo interno sólido que constituye aproximadamente una quinta parte del radio del planeta, una proporción similar a la del núcleo interno de la Tierra. Sin embargo, esta similitud puede ser solo una coincidencia”, afirmó Sun, según Smithsonian Magazine. Los investigadores sostienen que este núcleo estaría compuesto principalmente por hierro y níquel, junto con elementos más ligeros como oxígeno.
La presencia de un núcleo sólido en Marte tiene consecuencias notables para la historia del planeta, en especial respecto a su campo magnético. En la Tierra, este se genera por la convección en la parte líquida del núcleo, lo que protege la atmósfera de la radiación solar.
En Marte, la existencia de magnetización residual en la corteza indica que también contó con un campo magnético en el pasado, probablemente generado de forma similar a la terrestre. Sin embargo, como detallaron Kevin Olsen y Mhairi Reid en Smithsonian Magazine, se estima que el núcleo marciano perdió movilidad tras enfriarse, lo que provocó la desaparición de dicho campo.
La pérdida del escudo magnético marciano habría provocado la fuga de la atmósfera, en otro tiempo más densa y capaz de permitir la presencia de agua líquida en la superficie. Al quedar Marte sin protección magnética, la atmósfera se fue disipando, hasta convertirlo en el planeta frío y seco que se observa hoy.
Por ello, el descubrimiento del núcleo interno sólido no solo aporta información sobre la estructura presente del planeta, sino que también permite reconstruir su evolución y las condiciones que favorecieron, en algún momento, la presencia de vida.
El legado de InSight fue decisivo: gracias al sismómetro de la misión, los científicos accedieron al interior de Marte con un nivel de detalle inédito.
Dirigida por el Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) de la NASA, la labor de InSight proporcionó datos que transforman la comprensión sobre la formación de los planetas rocosos.
A medida que se exploran los registros sísmicos, los datos de InSight continúan impulsando descubrimientos que desafían las teorías existentes y abren interrogantes sobre la evolución de los mundos rocosos en el sistema solar.

FIRST ON FOX: Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas, the number three Republican in Senate leadership, is turning up the volume on his effort to protect and strengthen the GOP’s majority in the chamber in next year’s elections.
A non-profit public advocacy group aligned with the senator on Tuesday launched an ad highlighting GOP Rep. Ashley Hinson of Iowa, who’s running in the 2026 race to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Joni Ernst.
The ad is the latest effort by Cotton, the Army veteran who served in combat in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars before becoming a rising GOP star, to support Republicans in key Senate races in next year’s midterm elections when the party will be defending its 53-47 majority in the chamber.

HINSON LAUNCHES SENATE BID IN RACE TO SUCCEED IOWA’S ERNST
Hinson, a former local TV anchor, has been endorsed by President Donald Trump, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) as she runs to keep Iowa’s open Senate seat in the party’s hands.
The narrator highlights that Hinson «is tough on crime, and she’s tough on China. Ashley fought to stop China from buying our farmland, and she voted for President Trump’s tax cuts.»

It’s the second spot this cycle by America One Policies following an ad that targets Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia, whom Republicans consider the most vulnerable Democratic senator running for re-election in 2026.
And earlier this month, Cotton’s leadership PAC went up with an ad that takes aim at North Carolina’s former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, who’s running against former Republican National Committee chair Michael Whately in the race to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Thom Tillis.
An America One Polices spokesperson told Fox News that «Senator Cotton plans to fight for his colleagues in the US Senate, to ensure that we grow our majority in the senate, to fundraise and advertise for our candidates and to make sure that the American people know the records of their Democrat opponents. American One Policies will be assisting our candidates across the United States throughout this election cycle.»

Cotton, who didn’t face a Democratic Party opponent as he cruised to re-election in 2020 and who isn’t expected to face a difficult re-election next year in red state Arkansas, has crisscrossed the country in recent election cycles to campaign on behalf of fellow Republicans.
«As Tom Cotton has done since the first day he was elected to office, he will continue to help support Republicans around the country who are running for office at any level, to win,» a source in the senator’s political orbit told Fox News Digital.

The 48-year-old Cotton took a hard look at running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination as he made numerous trips to Iowa and New Hampshire, the two states that have long kicked off the GOP’s presidential primary calendar.
But days before the 2022 midterms, Cotton announced he wouldn’t run for the White House in 2024.

La Yihad Islámica rechazó el plan de paz para Gaza impulsado por Trump y respaldado por Netanyahu
La Yihad Islámica palestina rechazó el plan de paz para Gaza presentado por el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, y respaldado por el primer ministro israelí, Benjamín Netanyahu.
La organización, que mantiene a parte de los rehenes israelíes en la Franja, calificó la iniciativa como “una receta para continuar la agresión contra el pueblo palestino” y advirtió que representa exclusivamente los intereses estadounidenses e israelíes.
En un mensaje difundido por su canal de Telegram, el líder de la Yihad Islámica, Ziyad al Nakhalah, afirmó: “Lo anunciado en la conferencia de prensa entre Trump y Netanyahu es un acuerdo estadounidense-israelí, una expresión de la postura completa de Israel y una fórmula para la agresión continua contra el pueblo palestino”.
Al Nakhalah sostuvo que el plan es un intento por “imponer a través de Estados Unidos lo que no se ha podido lograr mediante la guerra”, advirtiendo además que se trata de “una fórmula para una explosión regional”.
Esta postura marca el primer rechazo formal de una de las facciones islamistas de la Franja de Gaza ante la propuesta estadounidense. Mientras tanto, Hamas comunicó que sigue revisando el plan y que aún no ha adoptado una decisión definitiva. Egipto y Qatar, tradicionalmente mediadores en el conflicto, confirmaron haber entregado la propuesta estadounidense a los líderes de Hamas para su estudio.
Fuentes de seguridad egipcias citadas por el canal Al Qahera News señalaron en las últimas horas: “Egipto y Qatar entregaron a Hamas la propuesta estadounidense de un alto el fuego en Gaza, y el movimiento confirmó que está estudiando el plan de manera positiva y objetiva”. Por su parte, medios árabes reportaron que altos funcionarios qataríes y egipcios, incluido el primer ministro de Qatar, Mohamed bin Abdulrahman, y el jefe de la inteligencia egipcia, Hasán Rashad, informaron sobre los detalles del plan a la dirigencia de Hamas, incluyendo la exigencia del desarme y la exclusión de la organización de cualquier papel futuro en la administración de Gaza.
El plan de paz de 20 puntos impulsado por Washington prevé un alto el fuego inmediato, la retirada gradual de las fuerzas israelíes de la Franja, la liberación de todos los rehenes a cambio de la excarcelación de cientos de prisioneros palestinos y la entrada de ayuda humanitaria gestionada por Naciones Unidas.
Además, establece que Hamas debe ser desarmado y quedar excluido de la autoridad administrativa adoptada para la etapa de transición. La propuesta contempla la formación de un gobierno técnico con palestinos independientes y expertos internacionales, bajo la supervisión de una denominada Junta de la Paz presidida por Trump, donde participaría también el ex primer ministro británico Tony Blair.
El texto no aporta detalles ni compromisos claros sobre la creación de un Estado palestino, limitándose a abrir la posibilidad de negociaciones a futuro si se cumplen las condiciones de desmilitarización y reformas institucionales. La falta de referencia concreta a la autodeterminación es uno de los puntos señalados por los grupos palestinos como motivo de su rechazo.
La respuesta de la Yihad Islámica se suma en un contexto donde Hamas retiene a parte de los 48 rehenes que aún permanecen en Gaza y mantiene contactos antiguos tanto con Egipto como con Qatar, las dos principales potencias regionales implicadas en la mediación. Mientras la organización islamista evalúa la propuesta, el liderazgo israelí sostiene que si no hay aceptación, la vía militar continuará. Netanyahu advirtió que cuenta con el respaldo de Trump para “acabar el trabajo” en Gaza en caso de que no haya acuerdo.
Por otro lado, varios Estados de la región, entre ellos Arabia Saudí y Turquía, han manifestado su disposición a respaldar la hoja de ruta planteada desde Washington. No obstante, la oposición de la Yihad Islámica y las dudas expresadas por facciones armadas muestran la complejidad de alcanzar una solución política consensuada.
La propuesta estadounidense surge tras meses de intensos combates, ataques y bombardeos en Gaza y se inscribe en una estrategia para garantizar un relevo gubernamental que excluya a Hamas de la administración de la Franja. De acuerdo a los mediadores regionales, cualquier avance hacia una tregua y reconstrucción dependerá de la aceptación o rechazo por parte de los actores palestinos armados y de las garantías sobre el cumplimiento de los requisitos impuestos por el acuerdo.
