Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian defended Tehran’s conduct in its war with the United States on Wednesday, taking aim at President Donald Trump and vowing that Iran would not surrender during a fiery address before world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly.
The speech follows months of fighting, failed diplomatic efforts and mounting international pressure on Tehran, giving Pezeshkian a high-profile platform to defend Iran’s actions and challenge the U.S. account of the conflict.

Demonstrators waved Iranian flags while denouncing Iran’s government over its repression of political dissent, restrictions on women’s rights and treatment of opposition figures.
As the emcee announced Pezeshkian’s impending speech, audible boos erupted from the protest crowd outside the UN as the leader walked out onto the stage.
A member of the U.S. delegation walked out of the General Assembly hall after Pezeshkian began criticizing the United States during his speech, Digital previously reported.
Digital reached out to the U.S. Mission for comment.

Pezeshkian used his speech to defend Iran’s conduct during the war and take aim at the United States and Israel.
«The United States using weapons with multiple warheads targeted that sports hall. … They martyred, assassinated our scientists, our men, women and children,» he said.
«This is what the United States seeks to do with all countries — [to] sacrifice the population of a country in order to achieve [its] goals,» Pezeshkian added.
CENTCOM has denied that U.S. forces carried out the strike on the sports hall in Lamerd, saying American forces did not strike the city or anywhere within 30 miles of it on the opening day of Operation Epic Fury.

Pezeshkian said that the U.S. and Israel have learned that Iran cannot be made to surrender, reiterating that Iran is «not afraid of fighting» and would defend the country «until our last breath.»

«Our innocent people have been the targets of cowardly attacks and aggressions imposed upon our country. And we defended ourselves with utmost strength. America and Israel attacked us,» Pezeshkian said.
He also used the opportunity to take shots at Trump, accusing him of «bullying» Iran.
«More must be understood by Mr. Trump and those who seek to bully us, that we are ready for dialog and diplomacy and negotiations without accepting the language of force,» Pezeshkian said.
Trump addressed leaders Tuesday and said he faced a «big decision» between reaching a deal with Iran or, in his words, «annihilat[ing] the Islamic Republic,» before U.S. officials later met with Iranian officials.
«Going back to the words of the president of the United States yesterday … everything uttered about our country was against the very essence and charter in the spirit of the United Nations,» Pezeshkian said. «He must know that the resistance of the Iranian people will increase in the face of sanctions, and increased bullying, because all of us under law will never bow our head or bend at the knee.»
Administration officials quickly pushed back on Pezeshkian’s attacks and disputed his account of the conflict.
«I think sponsoring terrorist organizations in the region to attack your neighbors, attack energy infrastructure, attack civilian sites is a violation of the UN system. So I don’t know what’s standing. Iran has to lecture anyone on human rights or the international system. When they habitually violate it,» said Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Rubio added that Iran has no credibility defending the international order because its regime has repeatedly violated it.
«The Iranian regime has murdered thousands of its own people, killed Americans overseas, executed acts of terrorism in the Strait of Hormuz, and launched indiscriminate attacks against its neighbors in the region,» White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly told Digital.
«The President is courageously ensuring that such an evil country never possesses a nuclear weapon, which will make the entire world safer and more stable,» she added.

A mass walkout of delegates before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly prompted a fiery response from the Israeli leader.
As Netanyahu took the stage, dozens of delegates from across the globe could be seen streaming out of the chamber in New York City. Chants of protest could also be heard in the hall as the U.N. president called the assembly to order.
After taking the stage, Netanyahu said, «Before I begin, just a quick announcement, if there are any other moral cowards who haven’t yet left this hall, please do so now,» as cheers erupted from the remaining delegates in the chamber.

Because if we hadn’t done it, we’d all be dead.»

The protests came as conflict in the Middle East continued and Israel faced criticism over its actions in the region. Netanyahu’s address drew protests from delegates inside the U.N. chamber and demonstrators outside the building, including Hollywood celebrities Elliot Page and Susan Sarandon.
Despite the protests, the prime minister delivered a defiant message, telling critics, «You don’t know what you’re talking about.»
He cast Israel’s fight as one for its own survival and the survival of all the world’s nations against «barbarians.»

Turning to criticism from U.S. figures, Netanyahu called out New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a socialist, whom he called «anti-semitic,» as well as influencer Hasan Piker. Addressing Mamdani directly, Netanyahu said, «Mr. Mamdani, you try to stop me from coming here. You tried to silence me. Well, you can’t silence me. You can’t silence the truth.»

UNITED NATIONS — Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister warned Thursday that the growing threat from Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis extends far beyond his country’s borders, calling for international cooperation to protect critical shipping routes after Saudi forces intercepted six ballistic missiles launched toward the kingdom.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud told Fox News Digital that Riyadh was coordinating with Washington and other international partners as Houthi attacks threatened Saudi territory and commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
The Saudi-led coalition said Thursday that its air defenses had intercepted six ballistic missiles allegedly launched by the Houthis toward the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu, according to Reuters. It was not immediately clear whether the attacks caused casualties or damage.

Saudi authorities also issued emergency warnings across several areas, including Jeddah and Mecca, before announcing that the immediate danger had passed. Yanbu, a major Red Sea oil export hub, has become particularly important as the war with Iran disrupts shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Asked by Fox News Digital whether Saudi Arabia was receiving the support it needed from the US following reports that President Donald Trump had declined Saudi requests for direct military intervention against the Houthis, Prince Faisal emphasized the kingdom’s ability to defend itself while calling for a broader international response.
«So we are, of course, defending ourselves. And we are responding as necessary to the attacks by the Houthis. But we are also, of course, coordinating with all of our international allies, because this is not just about Saudi Arabia,» he said.

«The fact that the Houthis are threatening the Bab el-Mandeb, threatening international shipping, is a risk to international security stability. That means that the responsibility to dealing with this threat is not just on Saudi Arabia, it is also on the whole international community.»
The foreign minister thanked countries already working with Riyadh and confirmed that discussions with Washington were continuing.

His remarks came as the Trump administration faced renewed requests from Saudi Arabia to take military action against the Houthis.
According to a Sept. 21 Axios report, Trump considered ordering strikes against the group over the weekend but ultimately decided against them. The report said Saudi officials had again sought American military assistance as Houthi forces advanced in Yemen, while the U.S. continued providing intelligence and targeting support without directly entering the fighting.
The Houthis’ territorial advances have intensified concerns over control of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a strategic passage connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and a crucial route for international trade and Saudi oil exports.

The group has expanded its control along Yemen’s western coastline in recent weeks, reaching the shores of the strategic waterway as fighting with Saudi-backed government forces escalated.

El Salvador podría cerrar 2026 con más de USD 13 mil millones en exportaciones de bienes y servicios, según la proyección de Silvia Cuéllar, presidenta de la Corporación de Exportadores de El Salvador (COEXPORT).
La estimación parte del desempeño de las exportaciones de bienes entre enero y julio. Cuéllar afirmó que, en ese período, las ventas externas aumentaron 11% en volumen y 4% en valor, un comportamiento que vinculó con una mayor cantidad de productos enviados a otros mercados.
La presidenta de COEXPORT calculó que las exportaciones de bienes podrían superar los USD 7 mil millones al cierre de 2026. A ese monto se sumarían más de USD 7 mil millones por servicios, aunque advirtió que este último rubro se mide bajo una metodología distinta y sus datos no se publican con la misma frecuencia.
Cuéllar comparó esa expectativa con los USD 11 mil millones que, según señaló, El Salvador registró en 2025 entre exportaciones de bienes y servicios. Aclaró que la proyección se elaboró con información disponible hasta julio de 2026, a la espera de los datos de agosto.
Las exportaciones generan divisas para cubrir importaciones
Cuéllar, en una entrevista en La Tribu, describió a El Salvador como un país con una estructura principalmente industrial y con una capacidad limitada para producir materias primas.
Bajo esa lógica, explicó que el país requiere importar alimentos, verduras, productos farmacéuticos, equipos, insumos y materiales para el consumo interno y la actividad productiva.
La dirigente sostuvo que cerca de 87% de las exportaciones salvadoreñas corresponde a productos industriales. Según dijo, esa composición diferencia a El Salvador de otros países centroamericanos, donde las actividades agrícolas tienen mayor presencia dentro de las ventas al exterior.
Para la presidenta de COEXPORT, las exportaciones permiten obtener las divisas necesarias para pagar las importaciones. “¿Quién los paga? La exportación. ¿Con qué se paga? Con divisas”, expresó durante la conversación.
Cuéllar indicó que, a julio de 2026, las exportaciones de bienes sumaban USD 4.036 millones, mientras las importaciones ascendían a cerca de USD 11 mil millones. Con esas cifras, calculó que el déficit comercial rondaba los USD 7 mil millones.
Las remesas compensan el desequilibrio comercial
La presidenta de COEXPORT sostuvo que el déficit comercial debe analizarse junto con el ingreso de remesas familiares, que aportan divisas y ayudan a compensar la diferencia entre las compras y ventas de bienes con el exterior.
“No, porque ya te dije que tenemos un balanceado con las remesas. Lo malo sería que no tuviéramos con qué compensarlo”, afirmó Cuéllar al ser consultada sobre si el déficit comercial supone necesariamente una señal negativa para la economía.
La dirigente indicó que las remesas están sujetas a factores externos. En ese sentido, mencionó la incertidumbre vinculada con la situación migratoria de los salvadoreños en Estados Unidos y con el Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS).
Cuéllar consideró que una proporción mayor de esos recursos podría orientarse a inversiones productivas. Señaló que ha observado inversiones inmobiliarias asociadas con salvadoreños que viven fuera del país, pero planteó la necesidad de aumentar los recursos dirigidos a negocios.
Textiles y confección lideran las ventas de bienes
Cuéllar mencionó al café y el azúcar entre los productos individuales con mayor peso en las exportaciones salvadoreñas. Al revisar la actividad por sectores, ubicó a textiles y confección como el principal rubro de las exportaciones no tradicionales.
Después citó a los alimentos, plásticos y farmacéuticos, además de la metalmecánica y las actividades vinculadas con la construcción. También incluyó los productos de madera, artículos elaborados a mano, calzado y accesorios.
La presidenta de COEXPORT explicó que los destinos de las exportaciones influyen en los precios obtenidos por las empresas. Según las cifras que presentó, 35% de las ventas externas se dirige a Estados Unidos y 43% tiene como destino Centroamérica.
Cuéllar sostuvo que gran parte de los productos enviados a Centroamérica corresponde a bienes de consumo. Esa condición implica que las empresas salvadoreñas deben competir con precios ajustados frente a otros proveedores.
“Se está vendiendo bastante, pero a precio competitivo”, expresó Cuéllar. La dirigente aclaró que esa condición no significa que los productos se vendan por debajo de su valor, sino que responden a las exigencias de los mercados regionales.
Los bienes de consumo crecen más que los insumos
Cuéllar consideró que el aumento de las importaciones no representa un problema cuando se trata de materias primas, equipos, maquinaria o bienes intermedios para la producción. Según explicó, esos productos permiten fabricar mercancías para el mercado local y para la exportación.
La presidenta de COEXPORT diferenció esa dinámica de las importaciones de bienes de consumo final. Durante la entrevista señaló que ese segmento sumaba USD 4 mil millones y había crecido 10% en valor.
Los bienes intermedios, en cambio, registraron un incremento de 5%, según las cifras citadas por la dirigente. Cuéllar señaló que la presencia de productos terminados importados en los comercios aumenta la competencia para los fabricantes nacionales.
La gremial plantea que el país debe fortalecer sus exportaciones sin limitar la importación de insumos, materias primas y equipos que las empresas necesitan para producir.
La industria textil busca elevar el valor agregado
Cuéllar afirmó que el sector textil ha avanzado desde el modelo de maquila tradicional hacia esquemas que incluyen más fases de producción dentro de El Salvador.
Según explicó, la maquila convencional recibe desde el exterior piezas o materiales previamente definidos, realiza labores de confección o ensamblaje, empaca el producto y lo devuelve al mercado de destino. Esa actividad genera empleo, aunque deja un margen menor dentro del país.
La presidenta de COEXPORT destacó el desarrollo del modelo de “paquete completo”. Bajo ese esquema, las empresas participan en el diseño, la elaboración de tejidos, el uso de hilo, la confección y la fabricación integral de las prendas.
“Ya estamos haciendo nosotros el diseño, componemos el tejido, tenemos el hilo, hacemos todo”, afirmó Cuéllar. A su juicio, ese modelo permite que una proporción mayor del valor agregado de cada prenda permanezca en la economía salvadoreña.
La dirigente señaló que la maquila tradicional ha reducido su participación dentro del sector, mientras las prendas elaboradas con procesos integrales han ganado espacio.
Turismo, logística y mantenimiento impulsan los servicios
Cuéllar ubicó al turismo y los viajes entre las actividades que más aportan a las exportaciones de servicios. Explicó que los visitantes extranjeros generan divisas cuando pagan alojamiento, transporte, alimentación, actividades recreativas y otros consumos durante su estancia en El Salvador.
Cuéllar relacionó la llegada de visitantes con las iniciativas de promoción turística y con el desarrollo de Surf City. Según afirmó, esa actividad contribuye a la generación de divisas por medio de los servicios.
La dirigente también mencionó el mantenimiento aeronáutico, la logística, el transporte terrestre, aéreo y marítimo, los centros de llamadas y los servicios profesionales. “Los servicios son importantísimos”, sostuvo.
Las producciones audiovisuales también pueden exportarse
La presidenta de COEXPORT explicó que una producción audiovisual realizada en El Salvador y pagada desde otro país puede registrarse como una exportación de servicios.
Cuéllar mencionó como ejemplo los anuncios producidos en el país para ser transmitidos en mercados extranjeros. El servicio se presta localmente, pero el pago procede del exterior y genera ingreso de divisas.
La misma lógica puede aplicarse a contenidos digitales producidos en El Salvador para usuarios o empresas de otros países. Cuéllar sostuvo que la condición es que el servicio se elabore en el país y que la transacción se registre formalmente.
La dirigente señaló que los artistas que ofrecen conciertos fuera de El Salvador también pueden generar exportaciones de servicios si reciben el pago en divisas y esos ingresos llegan al país.
Cuéllar agregó que los deportistas podrían entrar en una situación similar, siempre que los ingresos derivados de su actividad internacional se reciban y registren en El Salvador.
