Israel’s covert campaign targets Hamas terrorists behind Oct 7 massacre

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Israel continues to conduct an extensive campaign to locate and eliminate Palestinian terrorists involved in the Oct. 7, 2023 massacre, analysts told Fox News Digital, describing the policy as a decades-old doctrine aimed at both deterrence and retribution.
Last month, the Israel Defense Forces announced the elimination of Hasan Mahmoud Hasan Hussein, who on Oct. 7 led the brutal attack on a bomb shelter on Route 232 in Kibbutz Re’im, where 16 people were brutally murdered in the assault. Four others were taken hostage to Gaza, including Israeli American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was later killed in captivity.
The IDF also confirmed the deaths of Yousef Mahmoud Muhammad Juma’a, head of the Hamas cell that raided Kibbutz Alumim; Mahmoud Afana, who infamously boasted to his parents about murdering 10 Jews during the terror invasion; and Mohammed Hassan Mohammed Awad who held slain hostages Shiri Bibas and her two children, Kfir and Ariel and was implicated in their murders, and also the deaths of American citizens Gad Haggai and Judy Weistein.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to settle scores with Hamas, previously asserting, «We will not rest, nor will we be silent. We will pursue you, we will find you and we will settle accounts with you.»
Maj. Gen. (ret.) Amos Yadlin, former head of the IDF Military Intelligence Directorate, said this approach dates back decades.
«After the Munich Olympics massacre [of 11 Israelis] in 1972, it was decided that everybody involved in planning and executing these horrific terror attacks will be found and killed for three purposes: the first is to preempt further attacks, the second is deterrence and the third is retribution,» Yadlin told Fox News Digital.
He said that the same principles applied when the United States targeted Usama bin Laden after al Qaeda’s 9/11 attacks and, more recently, ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. «None of these terrorists should die of old age,» he said.
Yadlin explained that intelligence is gathered by the Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic security agency akin to the FBI; Aman, Israel’s Military Intelligence Directorate, which is the country’s largest intelligence agency; and the Mossad, when the target is located abroad. Strikes are typically carried out by the air force, which he said is highly precise in targeting threats.

On July 31, 2024, Israel assassinated Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Iran during his visit for the inauguration of President Masoud Pezeshkian, using an explosive device covertly planted in the Tehran guesthouse where he was staying.
The IDF also killed former Hamas terror chief in Gaza Yahya Sinwar; the head of Hamas’s armed wing, Mohammed Deif, and more recently, Sinwar’s brother, Mohammed, who had succeeded him.
THE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES OF HAMAS’S WAR ON ISRAEL FOR THE US AND GLOBAL SECURITY
The Shin Bet has established a special center devoted exclusively to locating Hamas terrorists who participated in the Oct. 7 massacre, according to Brig. Gen. (ret.) Lior Akerman, a senior researcher at the Institute for Policy and Strategy at Reichman University.
«They were identified based on intelligence, photographs, testimonies, investigations and more. And from that moment, the hunt begins until they are arrested or eliminated,» Akerman, a former Shin Bet agent, told Fox News Digital.

Yahya Sinwar, shown as a rat hiding in a tunnel, is the ace card in the deck given to Israeli soldiers.
Akerman said the Shin Bet followed the same approach during the Second Intifada, the Palestinian terror war in the early 2000s. He noted that Aziz Salha — who gained global notoriety from a video showing him lynching two Israeli soldiers in Ramallah’s twin city of el-Bireh on Oct. 12, 2000 — was killed in October 2024 in an IDF strike in the Gaza Strip.
IDF Brig. Gen. (res.) Amir Avivi stressed that gathering intelligence on terrorists is a complex process that relies on multiple sources.
«The Shin Bet and army intelligence work with many different kinds of sources, some are human intelligence (HUMINT), based on informants who share information. Others cyber, digital capabilities to tap computers or phones, the use of cameras and visual intelligence (VISINT) and the ability to monitor areas with drones,» Avivi told Fox News Digital.

ISRAEL’S ARMY WILL ‘ADVANCE READINESS’ FOR FIRST PHASE OF TRUMP PLAN TO RELEASE HOSTAGES
«You would need two sources to verify the position of a terrorist and then also make sure that he is isolated enough so that there is no danger to civilians. Once you manage to find the best operational conditions, then you choose the method of attack,» he added.
Avivi said that gathering information on Hamas terrorists and the organization’s structure has been an ongoing effort for years, including mapping platoons, companies, and battalions, as well as identifying commanders. Prior to the Oct. 7 attacks, Israeli security forces already possessed extensive intelligence on many of the terrorists involved, including drawing on satellite images and intercepted communications.

Brig. Gen. (Res.) Nitzan Nuriel, former director of the Counter-Terrorism Bureau at the Prime Minister’s Office (2007–2012), told Fox News Digital that Israel had captured large volumes of Hamas data, including gigabytes of clips, pictures and documents, which helped analysts piece together critical intelligence.
While the Oct. 7 massacre involved far more perpetrators than typical terror attacks in Israel–with some 6,000 storming the border that day— Nuriel said the methods for tracking them remain the same; the larger scale, however, means the process will take longer.

«I believe one of the reasons Hamas will be willing to accept President Trump’s peace plan is because it allows many of them to stay out of Israel’s long-reaching arms,» he continued. «If they agree to the entire proposal, some of them will survive.»

Trump thanks group representing families of hostages for Nobel Peace Prize appeal

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
President Donald Trump issued a letter to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum on the second anniversary of the Oct. 7 massacre, thanking them for their appeal to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
«Since the abhorrent events of October 7, 2023, that saw families ripped apart, children torn from their parents’ arms, and innocent people shot, killed, and raped, I have been resolved to returning all the hostages home, and ensuring the total destruction of Hamas so these horrific acts may never be repeated. These unspeakable scenes have been seared into our memories, and we will never forget,» Trump wrote.
«My entire administration has been touched by the fact that, through the unimaginable pain and suffering of spending two years not knowing where your loved ones are, you have continued telling their stories and advocating on their behalf.»

On Monday, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum issued a letter to the Nobel Committee, saying that after two years of suffering, they felt that Trump’s efforts brought them to a turning point. The group also acknowledged the number of hostages released since Trump’s inauguration, giving some families their loved ones and others «the dignity of burial and closure.»
«President Trump’s determination to bring peace made possible what many said was impossible. From the moment of his inauguration, he brought us light through our darkest times,» the forum wrote. «We are confident that he will not rest until the last hostage is brought home, the war has ended, and peace and prosperity are restored to the people of the Middle East.»
«In this past year, no leader or organization has contributed more to peace around the world than President Trump. While many have spoken eloquently about peace, he has achieved it. While others have offered empty promises, he has delivered tangible results that have saved countless lives,» the forum added.

It’s unclear whether Trump will win the prize, but that does not mean he has given up on achieving peace and ending the war.
Trump over the weekend urged the negotiators involved in the indirect talks to «move fast,» but he signaled that he viewed Hamas’ response as positive and called on Israel to «immediately stop the bombing of Gaza.»
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted the 20-point plan while in the U.S. last month. While Hamas said it was ready to release the hostages, it did not give a definitive answer on Trump’s plan.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio hailed Trump’s deal as «a historic opportunity to close this dark chapter, and to build a foundation for lasting peace and security for all.»
Chief negotiators from Israel and Hamas convened in Egypt on Tuesday as negotiations regarding Trump’s peace plan continued. An Egyptian official with knowledge of the talks told The Associated Press that Hamas and Israel agreed on most of the first-phase terms, including the release of the hostages and the establishment of a ceasefire.

Alexander Vindman’s congressman brother leads off Dems boosting Jay Jones after texts: ‘Send a message’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Democratic Virginia Rep. Yevgeny «Eugene» Vindman, twin brother of Trump impeachment figure Alexander Vindman, blasted out to his Twitter followers a call to vote for Democrats Jay Jones and Abigail Spanberger days after texts showed the former referenced killing Republicans.
Meanwhile, a House of Delegates candidate in conservative southside Virginia doubles and triples down on support of Jones amid social media pushback.
As Jones’ controversy and campaign unraveled over the weekend, Vindman, D-Va., took to X to issue comments standing behind the entire Democratic ticket.
«We’re just a month out from Election Day in Virginia. It’s time for our Commonwealth to send a message that we’re tired of Republican chaos,» Vindman wrote Sunday, two days after texts came to light showing Jones envisioning the murder of then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah.

Virginia «make a plan to vote — early if you can,» he said, adding «for» and the three X handles for gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger, lieutenant gubernatorial nominee Ghazala Hashmi and Jones.
«Your voice couldn’t be more important this year,» concluded Rep. Eugene Vindman, who coincidentally holds Democratic gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger’s former seat.
The post got ratioed by critics, including one telling Vindman, «Nobody is voting for Jay ‘Two Bullet’ Jones.»
«Get lost,» the man wrote.
JAY JONES SAID IF MORE POLICE WERE KILLED IT WOULD REDUCE SHOOTINGS OF CIVILIANS, ACCORDING TO VIRGINIA LAWMAKER
Another respondent posted a meme image of the Harrison family from «Pawn Stars» speaking with a customer and the caption «We need to tone down the political violence rhetoric» – «Virginia Democrats: Best I can do is murder your children.»
A third posted the ubiquitous «Marked Safe From… Today» flag meme, with the caption «Virginia Attorney General candidate Jay Jones.»
«Virginia — not for lovers anymore,» another wrote, referring to the Old Dominion’s famous 50-year tourism slogan.
Rep. Eugene Vindman’s brother Alexander Vindman was a key figure in then-Rep. Adam Schiff’s impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. Schiff defended then-witness Alexander Vindman in congressional hearings after Trump and other Republicans repeatedly condemned the former Ukraine-focused National Security Council staffer.
In Washington, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine also defended his support for Jones, saying he’s known the former Norfolk state delegate for 25 years.
«I think those statements were not in character, and he has apologized — I wish other people in public life would sincerely apologize for stuff,» Kaine said.
At the other end of Virginia, a Democrat running for a seat in Pittsylvania County and vicinity doubled and tripled down on her endorsement of Jones as the controversy continued.

Candidate Melody Cartwright, a former graphic designer at the Virginia Museum of Natural History in Martinsville, lambasted the delegate whom Jones had incidentally texted the invective to and vociferously defended the attorney generalship nominee.
Jay Jones «will defend Virginia’s rights, healthcare, and education. Stay the course,» Cartwright wrote on X, inscribing Jones’ handle.
«I stand with (Jay Jones) period. End of statement,» Cartwright wrote in a second tweet, both of which were lambasted by critics.
«Then you stand for a man who fantasizes about the murder of his political opponent’s children and wants to kill them, the parents, and piss on their graves,» replied former Energy Department staffer Matt van Swol.

Another critic said Cartwright’s comment wasn’t just a show of support but «an endorsement of an (expletive) death-obsessed lunatic.»
«No one is surprised. By you, by him, or by your entire party. It’s who you are,» wrote conservative figure Western Lensman.
Another reply included a one-second clip of conservative journalist Andrew Breitbart from his CPAC 2012 intro video, saying «War,» which had been one of the last appearances by the major right-wing figure before his death just days later. Breitbart’s stern-faced delivery of the singular word grew into a memorialization on the right in the time since; depicting the view that the left holds visceral hatred for the right.
Virginia Del. Eric Phillips, R-Martinsville, who defeated Cartwright last cycle and faces her again, told Fox News Digital it’s «not the Virginia way» to even entertain chatter in terms of what Jones referenced in his texts.
«It’s disturbing and disgraceful for my opponent to defend Jay Jones’ vile comments,» Phillips said of Cartwright.
«Standing with someone who talks about shooting colleagues in the head, harming their children, and desecrating graves is indefensible,» Phillips added.
«Anyone who excuses or embraces that kind of hate has no business asking to serve in the Virginia House of Delegates.»
In a separate tweet, Cartwright also bashed Virginia Del. Carrie Coyner, R-Chester, who originally had shared Jones’ texts with the National Review and Fox News Digital.
