What Jay Jones’ victory means for Democrats and the ‘new era of violent rhetoric,’ according to experts

Democrats in Virginia elected an attorney general who privately fantasized about murdering his political opponents, raising questions from experts who spoke to Fox News Digital about whether the Democratic Party is serious about condemning political violence.
«The moral rot infecting the Democrat Party is here to stay and voters just proved it,» Mehek Cooke, a GOP political consultant and commentator, told Fox News Digital after Jay Jones won the race for Virginia attorney general.
Jones defeated incumbent Republican Jason Miyares despite a campaign plagued with scandal after it was revealed he fantasized in 2022 text messages about shooting former Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert in the head while also suggesting that harm should come to that Republican’s young «fascist» children.
«Jay Jones called for the death of political opponents and their children, yet instead of rejecting that extremism, Democrat voters rewarded it,» Cooke said.

Julian Epstein, a longtime Democratic operative, attorney, and former chief counsel to the House Judiciary Committee, told Fox News Digital the «near unanimous rationalizations» from Democrats is driven by a «moral relativism that is a race to the bottom for any civilization.»
Epstein explained, «The collective shoulder shrug about a candidate who fantasizes about the assassination of his opponents and the death of his opponent’s children is of the same piece with the new era of violent rhetoric from the left and the data showing that nearly half of young progressives think that political violence can be justified. To look the other way on this because of political expedience is to lose the plot as to why one is in the public square in the first place.»
Ultimately, Cooke told Fox News Digital, the election of Jones in Virginia will help Republicans going forward.

«These reckless choices by the Left, including the election of Jay Jones, will only electrify the Republican base heading into the midterms and beyond,» Cooke said.
Kentucky GOP Rep. Andy Barr, running for U.S. Senate next year, echoed the sentiment that Republicans look better to voters overall than Democrats after Tuesday night.
«The Democrat Party just elected a Socialist to run the financial capital of the world and a Leftist Attorney General who wished for Republican leaders and their children to be killed,» Barr said. «Meanwhile, one year after the greatest political comeback in history, President Trump is Making America Great Again. Our golden age will continue as the Democrat Party disgraces itself.»

Fox News Digital reached out to the Jones campaign for comment.
News that Jones had sent the controversial texts, first reported by National Review, sparked a firestorm in early October, with many pundits believing the Jones campaign would be doomed for promoting political violence in a climate still reeling from the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
However, Democrats in Virginia remained behind Jones as gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger and prominent elected Democrats in the state refused to call on him to step down after he apologized for the texts.
«At the end of the day, this election has never been about me or my opponent,» Jones said in his victory speech. «It has always been about every single one of us and the future of Virginia.»

Legalize prostitution effort left candidate ‘shocked’ in blue state with rampant human trafficking

Michael Allen, a Republican candidate for Colorado attorney general, said he was «shocked» by a Democratic proposal to legalize prostitution, warning it would «open the floodgates» to human trafficking in Colorado.
«It’s hard for me to even decipher why they’ve decided this is the time and place to introduce a radical bill like this,» Allen said in an interview with Fox News Digital.
The bill, which sponsors said would «decriminalize adult commercial sexual activity,» was introduced last month by Democratic state Sens. Nick Hinrichsen and Lisa Cutter and Reps. Lorena García and Rebekah Stewart.

According to Allen, the bill would go far beyond Nevada’s law allowing prostitution and would make Colorado «the leader in the entire country on legalized prostitution.»
«I was shocked,» Allen admitted.
«It doesn’t make any sense to me. It would not solve any issue that is happening on the ground in Colorado. It would not help with our huge budget deficit. It will not help our crime deficit,» he said.
«It is, frankly, very appalling to me that we’ve got four members of the left-leaning Democrat legislature who thought it would be a good idea to just open the floodgates and let these criminal actors run free without any repercussions.»
The bill sponsors did not respond to requests for comment.
A current Colorado district attorney, Allen is one of two Republicans running to flip one of the state’s top offices red. If successful, Allen would be the first Republican elected attorney general in over a decade.
Allen said, despite the state being dominated by Democrats, he believes that, after 10 years of «devastatingly bad criminal justice reform,» voters are ready for a Republican attorney general.
Though the bill appears to have stalled for now in the state legislature, Allen said it demonstrates how the Democratic Party is «not doing the right things on behalf of the people in this state.»
The only outcome he predicts will result should the prostitution bill ever pass is «continued depravity in the state of Colorado.»

«Prostitution is a natural outgrowth of human trafficking,» he said. «The links are undeniable.»
He explained that, in Colorado, «You’ve got two major corridors of travel that go through the state,» which, he said, «are major arteries for human trafficking, and we see that in the Denver metro area as a huge hub for human trafficking.»
Colorado is seeing record highs in human trafficking victims and is ranked among the states with the highest numbers of reports, according to data gathered by the Common Sense Institute. Further, according to the study, 79% of Colorado human trafficking crimes were for the purposes of commercial sex. The study also backs Allen’s claim that the trafficking is concentrated in the Denver area.

As attorney general, Allen vowed to work to finally turn the tables on the rampant human trafficking in Colorado.
«The attorney general’s office has the ability to use the statewide grand jury to investigate those crimes and then also prosecute those crimes and hold people accountable,» he said.

He believes the upcoming midterm election in Colorado, including his race for attorney general, will be «pivotal.»
«We need to have a better, stronger and more effective posture from our Colorado Attorney General’s Office to combat criminal activity that is, frankly, affecting the entire state of Colorado,» he said.

La fiesta del Bootie Alley se celebra aquí desde hace 18 años. Cientos de hot dogs, burritos, palomitas de maíz, rollos de canela, chili, 19 litros de chocolate caliente y 38 litros de café donados por tostadores locales llenaron las mesas plegables de plástico de la fiesta en el estacionamiento. Un bar de Bloody Marys con elaboradas guarniciones en escabeche fue un detalle culminante.
Esta fiesta fue una de las muchas que surgieron por toda la ciudad el sábado en honor de la 54° salida ceremonial de la carrera de perros y trineos Iditarod Trail, que se celebra oficialmente a lo largo de una ruta de cerca de 1600 kilómetros desde Willow hasta Nome. Una ruta preliminar de 18 kilómetros a través de Anchorage permitió a los mushers celebrar la carrera con la comunidad previo a la salida oficial del domingo.

La Iditarod es conocida como una prueba de resistencia extrema. Algunos dirían que el invierno en Alaska también lo es. La gente está lista para la fiesta cuando llega marzo, dijo Kelsey Schober. Durante cerca de una década ha ayudado a organizar una de las mayores fiestas en el parque Eastchester de Anchorage, donde mucha gente se reúne para beber mimosas en una barra serpenteante hecha de nieve, comer perros calientes y bailar al ritmo de un DJ local.
“Todo lo lindo que ocurre en una comunidad es porque la gente simplemente lo hace”, dijo Alex Troutman después de cocinar y servir 250 hot dogs para los asistentes a la fiesta de Eastchester Park.
La carrera también conmemora la Carrera del Suero de 1925, un relevo de trineos tirados por perros que suministró antitoxina contra la difteria que salvó vidas a lo largo de 965 kilómetros hasta Nome y evitó un brote mortal.
En Eastchester Park, Tara Wheatland -conocida por los asistentes como Dr. Balto- deambulaba entre la multitud con una jeringa de plástico para fiestas y una jarra con la etiqueta “Suero contra la difteria RX – Tome una dosis anual durante el Trailgate“. Llenando la jeringa con una mezcla de whisky y aguardiente de menta, “inoculaba” a la gente echándoles la bebida en la boca.
Año tras año, la carrera alterna los senderos del norte y del sur para distribuir la inyección económica entre los pueblos a lo largo de la ruta. El cambio climático ha obligado a la carrera a adaptarse en los últimos años. El año pasado la salida fue 482 kilómetros al norte, en Fairbanks, debido a la falta de nieve.
El domingo, en la salida oficial de la carrera en Willow, cientos de personas se reunieron en el lago Willow para ver a los 37 equipos caninos iniciar su largo camino hacia Nome. Los vendedores de comida se instalaron a lo largo del sendero, que cruza el lago helado, y muchos de los participantes celebraron picnics para compartir bocados y bebidas con familiares, amigos y cualquiera que pasara por allí.
Al otro lado del lago, desde la línea de salida, Jonathan Michaud asó bratwurst de Cheddar de Mat Valley Meats; sus costillas “Maui Wowie” marinadas con teriyaki y cortadas finamente, y hot dogs.
“Nos gusta comer comida de verdad”, dijo. “Los hot dogs son para los niños”.
Michaud, cuyos amigos y familiares le llaman “el Guy Fieri del trailgate“, lleva saliendo cerca de una década. Los miembros de su grupo tiran de los niños en un pequeño trineo y ofrecen mojitos enlatados y tragos de Jell-O caseros a todos los que pasan por allí.
Más allá del lago Willow, las reuniones continúan durante toda la semana alrededor de cada uno de los puntos de control de la carrera, a medida que los mushers llegan y parten de pueblos remotos.
Silverthorn y su familia, quienes organizan la fiesta Bootie Alley en Anchorage, ven la tradición como una forma intrínsecamente alaskeña de mostrarse unos a otros.
“Es la Alaska de la vieja guardia”, dijo Deanna James, voluntaria de la Bootie Alley. “Se trata de unir a la gente. No importa quién seas, si quieres algo caliente para beber o comer, estos chicos te lo darán”.
