One of the largest hospitals in New York City will stop providing sex reassignment procedures to minors after entering an agreement with the Trump administration.
Mount Sinai has provided sex reassignment services, which included hormonal therapy and surgeries, to thousands of transgender patients. In 2025, Mount Sinai’s Institute for Advanced Medicine reported that its providers saw 4,931 transgender and gender-diverse patients, but the exact number of minors receiving sex reassignment procedures has not been publicly disclosed, according to the hospital’s report.
«The Department of Justice is committed to holding accountable medical providers that violate federal law and endanger children through so-called gender-affirming care,» said Attorney General Todd Blanche. «This agreement puts an end to these practices at Mount Sinai and provides meaningful relief for individuals who have already suffered harm.»

The agreement includes a monetary penalty and requires Mount Sinai to dedicate $2 million to free medical care for people suffering harmful consequences from transgender treatments they received as children. The agreement comes as part of an ongoing Justice Department investigation into hospitals providing such procedures to minors.
«A growing number of hospitals, like Mount Sinai, have recognized the medical scandal of sex-rejecting procedures,» Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate of the Civil Division said in a statement. «While we are grateful when we secure resolutions to end this discredited practice and protect children, we must not and will not rest in our pursuit of justice for the victims it has left behind.»
Curbing sex reassignment procedures for minors has been a top priority under the Trump administration.

Just a week after being sworn into office, President Donald Trump issued an executive order titled «Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,» seeking to defund federal funding for gender reassignment procedures and directing the Justice Department to enforce the nation’s female genital mutilation laws and investigate drug-safety violations and potential parental rights violations.
The Justice Department’s investigation examines potential violations of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, the False Claims Act and other federal health care laws, including alleged fraudulent billing practices such as the use of false diagnosis codes to obtain payment from federal health care programs and private insurers, according to the department.
The executive order also directed federal agencies to rescind or amend policies that rely on guidance from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).
WPATH, a professional association that develops standards of care for transgender and gender-diverse patients, is being sued by the Federal Trade Commission and several states, which allege the group made false and unsubstantiated claims about the safety, effectiveness and medical necessity of pediatric medical-transition services. The case is pending.

WPATH’s medical guidelines served as the bedrock for Mount Sinai’s medical guidelines for transgender procedures, and Dr. Joshua Safer, executive director of the Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery, has co-authored WPATH guidelines.
The Justice Department did not release the details of the agreement with Mount Sinai but acknowledged that the hospital «remained cooperative, proactive, and solution-driven» at all times of the investigation.
«The settlement is complex, but at its core reflects Mount Sinai’s commitment to safeguarding our patients’ confidential information and protecting our clinicians,» Mount Sinai said in a statement to the New York Times.
Mount Sinai’s settlement is just the latest the Justice Department has reached with major hospitals providing transgender procedures. Texas Children’s Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Connecticut Children’s Hospital have agreed to halt youth transgender procedures in the past couple of months.

FIRST ON FOX — Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is launching a new tipline for Americans to report suspected commercial driver’s license (CDL) fraud as the Trump administration ramps up its crackdown on unqualified truckers following a series of deadly crashes involving illegal immigrants.
ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations announced the official CDL fraud tipline Tuesday, Fox News Digital learned.
Americans can report suspected fraud by calling 866-347-2423.
The new tipline comes as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) have expanded efforts to identify illegal immigrants and other unqualified drivers operating commercial vehicles on American roads.

DHS pointed Fox News Digital to cases involving illegal immigrants who received CDLs from states including California, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania before later being involved in fatal crashes or arrested in connection with other alleged crimes.
«Too many American lives have been lost or permanently changed because illegal aliens who have no business being on our roads have been granted CDLs,» DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said.

In July, Michael Bon, an illegal immigrant from Haiti who DHS says had been granted a CDL by Massachusetts, allegedly caused a semi-truck crash that killed a Pennsylvania State Trooper.
Another case cited by the department left four people dead in Indiana.

Bekzhan Beishekeev, an illegal immigrant from Kyrgyzstan, swerved into oncoming traffic in February and caused a head-on collision that killed four people, according to DHS. The department said Pennsylvania had granted Beishekeev a commercial driver’s license before the crash. ICE arrested him that month.
In Oregon, Rajinder Kumar, an illegal immigrant from India, jackknifed his trailer in November 2025 in a crash that killed a newlywed couple, according to DHS. The department said Kumar had been granted a CDL by California and was arrested by ICE in April 2026.

And in Florida, Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant from India, made an illegal U-turn in a tractor-trailer in August 2025, causing a crash that killed three people, according to DHS. The department said California had granted Singh a CDL.
The tipline is the latest step in a broader federal crackdown on commercial trucking fraud and unqualified drivers.

In August, DHS said the second wave of Operation Highway Shield removed more than 800 truckers from U.S. roads, including 51 illegal immigrants, during a three-day operation.
A separate three-day operation in Oklahoma in October 2025 resulted in the arrests of 120 illegal immigrants, including 91 who were operating commercial vehicles with CDLs, according to DHS.
DHS and DOT have also targeted fraudulent and illegal practices at CDL schools nationwide as part of the Trump administration’s broader crackdown.

Philippines defense chief calls out China after note interrupts remarks at Seoul forum: ‘Coercion, bullying’

Gilberto C. Teodoro, the Defense Secretary for the Philippines, publicly bashed China after he was handed a note outlining China’s position on the South China Sea while he was speaking during the Seoul Defense Dialogue in South Korea on Tuesday.
While Teodoro was in the middle of speaking, a man in a white sports coat walked up behind him and placed a sheet of paper on the table beside him.
«I have a note here, I think this is from China,» Teodoro said, stopping short in his remarks.
«And may I read it?» he asked the crowd, before proceeding to read aloud from the note.
«China’s position on the South China Sea arbitration is clear, consistent and firm. They have no position. The arbitration violates fundamental principles of international law,» the note read.

The note likely referred to the 2016 legal case that the Philippines brought against China under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The case, titled the South China Sea Arbitration, determined that China was unlawfully reclaiming land in the Philippines’ territorial waters.
China has long rebuked the ruling and consistently accuses the Philippines of infringing on China’s sovereignty in the disputed waters.
The long-running dispute has created a number of tense standoffs between the two countries’ navies.

«How can you deal with a country in an international forum – beyond the question asked to me – disrespecting the organizers of this forum, how do you expect to deal with it civilly?» Teodoro asked the crowd.
«I ask you the question, is this the right paper to post to me when I’m being asked a question on the floor? And how will you treat this kind of behavior? It not only disrespects, shows, if this is a Chinese position sent to me, it not only disrespects international law, throwing UNCLOS to the floor and trampling upon it, but it also disrespects the basic decency accorded that should be accorded to our most gracious host, the Republic of Korea and the rest of the audience here,» he continued.

El bloqueo naval impuesto por Estados Unidos en el golfo Pérsico desde mediados de julio dejó sin salida a las exportaciones petroleras de Irán, la principal fuente de ingresos del régimen, según un informe publicado por The Wall Street Journal. Las entregas actuales, de alrededor de un millón de barriles diarios, se dirigen en su mayoría hacia China, uno de los principales compradores de crudo iraní pese a las sanciones. Sin embargo, ese flujo también depende del stock acumulado antes del bloqueo y no de nueva producción que logre sortear el cerco naval.
Un acercamiento diplomático entre Washington y Teherán, plasmado en un memorando de entendimiento firmado a mediados de junio, permitió una pausa temporal en el bloqueo. Esa ventana posibilitó el envío de volúmenes considerables de petróleo hacia el exterior para entregas posteriores, ingresos de los que el país todavía se sostiene.
“El proceso de vender el petróleo y entregarlo a los clientes se llevó a cabo a miles de kilómetros del golfo Pérsico y el mar de Omán”, afirmó el ministro de Petróleo iraní, Mohsen Paknejad, el viernes pasado.
Algunos compradores chinos comenzaron a virar hacia crudo saudí, iraquí y emiratí, según funcionarios energéticos del Golfo consultados por el diario neoyorquino. La presión no se limita al transporte físico del crudo. La nueva campaña de sanciones de Washington apunta además a bancos y canales financieros que facilitan las transacciones iraníes, lo que podría dificultar el cobro de pagos por cargamentos ya entregados.
El bloqueo también forzó a Irán a recortar parte de su producción. Las reservas de petróleo no aumentaron de manera significativa, lo que sugiere que el país ajustó su producción a la demanda interna, según explicó Homayoun Falakshahi, jefe de análisis de crudo de Kpler.
El escenario confirma las proyecciones que los analistas habían planteado durante el bloqueo inicial de la primavera boreal: Irán debería reducir su producción para evitar que el excedente alcanzara el límite de su capacidad de almacenamiento.
Las rutas terrestres ofrecen escaso alivio. El país carece de vagones diseñados para transportar crudo o derivados, y solo podría mover un máximo de 40.000 barriles diarios por camión, una fracción mínima de los casi 2 millones de barriles diarios que exportaba antes del conflicto, según Falakshahi.
El sector petroquímico, la segunda fuente de divisas, también se derrumba
La presión alcanza igualmente al sector petroquímico, la segunda fuente de ingresos externos de Irán después del petróleo, que depende en gran medida de las exportaciones marítimas.
Hacia agosto, las cargas de este sector habían caído cerca de dos tercios respecto de comienzos de 2026, según estimaciones de Kpler.
En contraste, otros productores del Golfo mantuvieron volúmenes significativos de exportación pese al conflicto. Estados Unidos escoltó convoyes a través del estrecho de Ormuz, mientras Arabia Saudita y los Emiratos Árabes Unidos derivaron más crudo a través de oleoductos que evitan esa vía marítima.

El estrangulamiento exportador profundiza una crisis económica que ya arrastraba a Irán antes del conflicto. La inflación oficial supera el 80% interanual, y el Fondo Monetario Internacional proyecta una contracción económica del 5,4% para este año, la peor desde la década de 1980.
La caída de las exportaciones petroleras priva a Teherán de la divisa fuerte necesaria para sostener su moneda y pagar importaciones, incluidas las materias primas que requieren sus fábricas. El rial perdió casi el 15% de su valor frente al dólar desde que el presidente Donald Trump anunció su campaña de ajuste económico en agosto, según el economista Hamad Hussain, de Capital Economics.
El comercio general del país no se detuvo por completo. Irán exportó cerca de 15.000 millones de dólares en bienes no petroleros entre mediados de marzo y mediados de agosto, de acuerdo con medios locales, aunque ese monto se ubica por debajo del registrado el año anterior.
Una vía comercial clave, sin embargo, se estrechó de forma reciente. Fuentes saudíes señalaron además que Irán incrementó el suministro de armas, personal e inteligencia a sus aliados hutíes en Yemen, lo que eleva la amenaza sobre el transporte marítimo y la infraestructura de Arabia Saudita y abre la posibilidad de un nuevo punto de estrangulamiento naviero.
El sábado pasado, Estados Unidos atacó tres petroleros iraníes después de que Irán lanzara misiles balísticos contra dos buques de guerra de la Armada estadounidense, entre ellos un portaaviones.
“La campaña de Estados Unidos tendrá un efecto significativo sobre el hogar iraní promedio. Pero, ¿en cuanto a que Irán capitule en la mesa de negociación? Tengo muchas dudas”, afirmó Ellie Geranmayeh, especialista en Irán del Consejo Europeo de Relaciones Exteriores, en declaraciones recogidas por The Wall Street Journal. “La evidencia que tenemos sugiere que el régimen iraní probablemente se resista”, agregó.
