Influencer costarricense Julián Valverde fue detenido en Estados Unidos y aún se desconoce el motivo
El creador de contenido costarricense Julián Valverde, conocido en redes sociales como Julián Valjota, se encuentra detenido en Estados Unidos, una situación que generó incertidumbre entre sus seguidores después de que uno de sus amigos más cercanos confirmara que llevaba aproximadamente 24 horas bajo custodia de las autoridades.
La información fue comunicada por el también creador de contenido Christopher Araya, conocido como Araya Vlogs, quien explicó mediante un video que fue el propio Valverde quien le solicitó hacer pública la situación para evitar especulaciones mientras se conocen mayores detalles.
Según el relato divulgado por Araya, Valverde todavía no había comparecido ante un juez y personas cercanas al influencer se encontraban en contacto con su abogado y con especialistas en asuntos migratorios para determinar cuál será el procedimiento que deberá enfrentar.
Hasta este jueves 17 de septiembre de 2026, no se ha informado públicamente qué autoridad realizó la detención, cuál fue el motivo específico, dónde se encuentra retenido ni si existe alguna acusación en su contra.
Tampoco existe confirmación oficial de que se trate de una detención ejecutada por el Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas de Estados Unidos (ICE), por lo que cualquier vínculo directo con un eventual proceso de deportación permanece, por ahora, sin comprobar.
Una publicación antes de conocerse la detención
La última publicación conocida de Valverde antes de que trascendiera su situación fue realizada durante la noche del miércoles.
En el video, el costarricense aparecía dentro de un vehículo y se observaba una patrulla detrás. Fiel al tono humorístico con el que suele abordar sus experiencias en Estados Unidos, hizo referencia a un eventual regreso a Costa Rica.
“Tengan cuidado con lo que manifiestan, porque estaba diciendo que vuelvo a Costa Rica, no les había dicho cómo”, manifestó el influencer en la grabación.
Horas después se conoció que permanecía detenido.
Araya aseguró que se encontraba buscando información para comprender la situación legal de su amigo y señaló que estaban en comunicación con abogados y personas conocedoras de temas migratorios.
El creador de contenido no precisó las circunstancias en que ocurrió la detención.
Julián ya había hablado de su situación migratoria
La situación adquiere especial relevancia porque Valverde ha documentado durante años parte de su experiencia como costarricense residente en Estados Unidos y, en varias ocasiones, ha hablado públicamente de asuntos relacionados con migración.
En junio de 2025, el creador de contenido relató que estuvo cerca de enfrentar complicaciones cuando realizó un viaje por carretera próximo a la frontera con México sin conocer el funcionamiento de los controles migratorios instalados en determinadas zonas.
En esa oportunidad, Valverde explicó que no era ciudadano estadounidense y que se encontraba en un proceso legal, motivo por el cual viajaba con su pasaporte costarricense. Según relató entonces, llamó a su abogado al descubrir que tendría que atravesar un punto de control migratorio.
La situación finalmente no derivó en una detención, pero el propio influencer aseguró que su abogado le había advertido sobre la posibilidad de permanecer detenido mientras se resolviera el caso.
Valverde también ha utilizado en numerosas ocasiones el humor para referirse a una eventual deportación. Sin embargo, esas bromas no permiten establecer cuál es actualmente su condición migratoria ni explicar la causa de la detención de esta semana.
Más de cinco años viviendo en Estados Unidos
Valverde reside en Estados Unidos desde hace más de cinco años. De acuerdo con publicaciones anteriores, salió de Costa Rica en busca de oportunidades laborales y comenzó trabajando en actividades relacionadas con la construcción antes de que el crecimiento de sus redes sociales le permitiera dedicarse de lleno a la creación de contenido.
Su vida como migrante se convirtió precisamente en uno de los elementos centrales de sus publicaciones, en las que muestra viajes, experiencias culturales, situaciones cotidianas y diferencias entre Costa Rica y Estados Unidos.
La detención se produjo, además, pocos días después de un momento especialmente significativo para su familia. Su hermana Nathalia había viajado a Estados Unidos para reencontrarse con él después de aproximadamente cinco años separados, un momento que Valverde compartió públicamente en sus plataformas.
Por ahora, las personas cercanas al influencer esperan conocer qué determinarán las autoridades estadounidenses.
La ausencia de información oficial sobre la causa de la detención impide establecer si el procedimiento está relacionado con su condición migratoria, alguna infracción administrativa o cualquier otro asunto, por lo que el caso continúa a la espera de que Valverde comparezca ante una autoridad judicial o que su representación legal brinde mayores detalles.

WATCH: Gaffe-prone Seattle socialist mayor cuts off police chief in yet another awkward interview
Already known for awkward, gaffe-prone interviews and public appearances, Seattle socialist Mayor Katie Wilson is being mocked again for another uncomfortable on-camera moment.
This time, Wilson, a Democrat and self-identified socialist, is being criticized for a strange interview about the city’s gun violence reduction plan alongside Seattle Police Assistant Chief Nicole Powell and Amy Barden, chief of Seattle’s Community Assisted Response and Engagement (CARE) Department. At one point during the interview, Wilson interjected after a long pause when Powell was questioned by a reporter about the usefulness of new Flock-type surveillance cameras being installed in the city.
KOMO News reporter Chris Daniels had asked Powell whether the new cameras could assist with Seattle’s slate of unsolved cases. The assistant police chief hesitated, looked down and began to speak twice before Wilson interjected.
«Cameras are obviously a useful tool, right? We’ve seen in the ‘Bite of Seattle’ shooting there’s been camera footage from businesses around Seattle center, we have cameras at Seattle center, those cameras have been useful tools in solving crime, there’s no doubt about that,» said Wilson.

Visibly uncomfortable after Wilson interjected, the assistant police chief chuckled, motioned to the mayor and repeatedly looked off camera.
The reporter continued pressing them, saying, «What’s going to be the metric of success?»
Powell looked to Wilson, whose voice cracked slightly as she answered, «Ultimately, we want to see zero homicides, we want to see fewer homicides, and we want to see fewer guns shot.» While Wilson spoke, Powell nodded along and looked to the side off camera again.
The reporter persisted, asking, «Would either of you like to answer that question?» as he motioned to Powell and Barden.
Barden jumped in quickly, steering the conversation away from Flock cameras.
«From my side, in addition to shots fired and homicides, you want to look at referrals in the services and whether or not somebody is making meaningful improvement in their life,» said Barden.

After Barden finished speaking, the reporter turned the floor over to the assistant police chief, who laughed and finally answered, «Just to piggyback, taking a holistic approach, this strategy works.»
«It is proven in other cities like this, and it takes all of us,» Powell added, as she looked back at Wilson and Barden.
This comes as debate continues over the expansion of surveillance cameras in Seattle and other cities across the country. During her campaign last year, Wilson argued against expanding surveillance cameras in the city but has taken a different tone since becoming mayor.
Last September, Wilson remarked that «turning on more cameras won’t magically make our neighborhoods safer. But it will certainly make our neighbors more vulnerable,» reported The Urbanist.
However, after becoming mayor, Wilson announced that she would pause expansion of Seattle’s surveillance-camera system pending a privacy and data-governance audit, while allowing the existing cameras to remain in operation. She said the city would use the audit’s findings to determine whether and how to proceed with further expansion.
During the KOMO News interview this week, Wilson was pressed on when she would set a date for a decision. She answered, «I’m going to sound like a broken record on this, but we’ve been conducting this audit of our data security and storage and privacy practices, we’re expecting the results of that audit around the end of this month and so, at the end of this month, we’ll be making that information public, and then I’ll be making a decision about that expansion.»

Some voiced their frustration, such as political advocacy group Future 42, which posted, «Daniels asks the SPD Chief sitting beside the mayor if the crime cameras ‘could be a tool to help in any of these unsolved cases.’ The Chief’s facial expression and silence say it all, which is then followed by Katie Wilson interjecting that cameras are in fact a ‘useful tool’, even though she personally made the decision to turn them off,» the group wrote, adding, «What else can we say, except Katie Wilson still has no idea what she is doing as Mayor of Seattle?»

Fresh activity emerges at Iran’s deeply buried nuclear site as Trump warns Iran not to ‘get cute’

New satellite imagery shows Iran has added new defenses around tunnel entrances at Pickaxe Mountain, the deeply buried nuclear-linked site President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to strike, as Russia and China on Thursday vetoed a U.S.-drafted Security Council resolution aimed at preserving international monitoring of sanctions on Tehran.
The Institute for Science and International Security said in a report released Thursday that satellite imagery from Sept. 11 shows earthen roadblocks remain in place on roads leading to Pickaxe Mountain’s western tunnel portals near the Natanz nuclear complex. The institute said the continued restricted access reinforces its assessment that the facility is not currently being used for normal operations, while assessing that valuable equipment or materials remain inside.
The report also identified additional soil placed over one western tunnel portal and over a nearby cluster of entrances first built in 2007. The institute said the added soil increases the amount of earth protecting the entrances and helps harden them against aerial bombardment.
EXPERTS ‘DEEPLY’ CONCERNED OVER IRAN’S WORK AT UNDERGROUND NUCLEAR SITE

The findings come one week after Trump issued his latest warning over Pickaxe Mountain.
«We notice there’s a little activity at Pickaxe,» Trump told reporters last week. «I would advise Iran not to get cute because we will have to hit them very hard.»
Trump has repeatedly raised the possibility of attacking the site. In a July 28 «Fox & Friends» interview highlighted by the White House, Trump said the U.S. was watching Pickaxe closely and knew «exactly what’s going on,» adding that Washington could «take out Pickaxe» if diplomacy failed.
Pickaxe Mountain lies roughly two kilometers from Natanz and features multiple tunnel entrances leading into a deeply buried underground complex. Construction began in 2020 following sabotage that damaged an advanced centrifuge assembly facility at Natanz, and Iranian officials subsequently said a replacement underground facility was being built for advanced centrifuge production. Analysts estimate portions of the facility may be buried at least 100 meters beneath the mountain. Iran has said there is no nuclear activity at the site.

Behnam Ben Taleblu, senior director of the Iran program at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Fox News Digital that some analysts believe the opportunity for a straightforward strike on Pickaxe Mountain may already have passed.
«The window to strike Pickaxe Mountain, according to some, has already expired because the regime has dug an underground nuclear facility several times deeper than Fordow,» Ben Taleblu said. But he argued that Washington retains military options even if destroying the underground complex itself proves difficult.
«Washington can do what it’s traditionally been able to do with sites that are underground, hardened and fortified, and that’s to bury their entrances and raise the political cost to the Islamic Republic of being able to dig out,» he said.
«While there may not be the perfect munition just yet, Uncle Sam always has a bigger bomb,» Ben Taleblu added. «And in the meantime, what they can do is show that they mean business by burying the entrances.»

The Pickaxe findings came alongside signs of reconstruction at another sensitive Iranian facility.
In a separate report Thursday, the institute said Iran was «rapidly moving forward» with reconstruction of Taleghan 2 at the Parchin military complex southeast of Tehran. Vantor Technologies satellite imagery from Sept. 13 shows Iran erected a tarp over the destroyed hardened facility, obscuring work underneath from satellite or aerial observation, while dump trucks, bulldozers, concrete equipment and cranes were active around the site.
The institute said Iran also built new concrete reinforcement that could provide additional protection against aerial attack. Taleghan 2 was struck by Israel in October 2024 and again in March 2026 after Iran had rebuilt and hardened the facility. The institute said significant questions remain about Tehran’s plans for the site.
The military developments unfolded alongside a separate confrontation over Iran at the United Nations.

Russia and China on Thursday vetoed a U.S.-authored Security Council resolution that would have extended for another year, until September 2027, the mandate of the Panel of Experts supporting the 1737 Iran Sanctions Committee. The measure received 11 votes in favor, while Pakistan and Somalia abstained.
The panel investigates alleged sanctions violations and reports on implementation. The dispute reflects a deeper split over whether UN sanctions suspended under the 2015 nuclear agreement were legally restored through the «snapback» mechanism. Most Council members maintain that the sanctions and related monitoring structures were revived, while Russia and China reject the legal and procedural validity of that position.
A day before the vote, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz told reporters in New York that Washington considers the sanctions legally restored.
«The snapback sanctions… occurred, the United States and this U.N. Security Council followed appropriate procedures for that to occur,» Waltz said Wednesday at a news conference attended by Fox News Digital. «Those sanctions are in place and we expect those who are a party to fully enforce those sanctions.»
Waltz said the expert panel is important because sanctioned companies and individuals can attempt to evade restrictions by changing names and corporate structures.
«The president has been clear, and the world community has been clear with resolution after resolution, that the Iranian regime cannot have a nuclear weapon,» Waltz said.

Thursday also brought fresh U.N. scrutiny of both Washington and Tehran. An independent U.N. fact-finding mission said it had reasonable grounds to believe two U.S. strikes on civilian sites in Iran in February constituted war crimes, while separately concluding that Iranian authorities committed crimes against humanity during their crackdown on anti-government protests. The mission is investigative rather than judicial, and its findings do not themselves constitute criminal judgments.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Iran U.N. mission for comments but didn’t receive them in time for publication.

Orsi negó posible cable submarino a las Malvinas y ratificó el apoyo a Argentina: “Mantenemos la posición histórica”
La presencia de una promoción de las Islas Malvinas en el stand británico en la principal exposición rural del Uruguay generó una protesta de Argentina con el gobierno uruguayo, un intercambio de cartas de la Cancillería con el Parlamento y una explicación de la Asociación Rural del Uruguay (ARU), organizadora de Expo Prado.
Además, las idas y vueltas incluyeron el reconocimiento de un “error” por parte de funcionarios del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y de la ratificación del Estado uruguayo de su reconocimiento a las Malvinas como parte del territorio argentino.
El presidente de la República, Yamandú Orsi, habló de esta polémica este miércoles.
Orsi negó que el Reino Unido haya planteado instalar un cable entre Malvinas y Uruguay, como se había informado. “Nunca tuvimos ninguna propuesta, ningún planteo. No se hizo ninguna consideración porque nunca hubo nada. Hubo una empresa norteamericana que está trabajando pero no pensando en Malvinas como punto de enlace. Es una noticia falsa”, dijo el presidente uruguayo en una rueda de prensa.
Orsi también ratificó la posición de Uruguay sobre el apoyo a Argentina en su reclamo de soberanía.
“Es histórica la posición del Uruguay y nos mantenemos. Tenemos buenas relaciones con todos los países. Pero este tema de un cable o de fibra es un error por decirlo de alguna manera. Hay que tener mucho cuidado de dar manija acá adentro. No se embroma con esas cosas”, agregó.
El tema Malvinas volvió al centro del debate en Uruguay tras el stand con el nombre Falkland en el pabellón británico de la Expo Prado. Esto motivó el reclamo argentino.
La carta de protesta enviada por la Embajada Argentina a Uruguay expresaba: “Esta representación desea expresar su rechazo a la presencia del mencionado ‘escritorio’ de las Islas Malvinas en la edición 2026 de la feria Expo Prado. En este sentido, la República Argentina agradece y valora el constante apoyo de la República Oriental del Uruguay a la posición argentina en la cuestión Malvinas, el cual se expresa en los ámbitos nacional, bilateral, regional y multilateral”.
Ante esto, la Cancillería uruguaya sugirió a los legisladores del país –a través de una comunicación al Parlamento– evitar todo contacto oficial con representantes del stand de las Islas Malvinas. Sin embargo, luego de una crítica de un senador ratificó esta postura y la dejó sin efecto.
“Hubo una confusión. Fue una solicitud que hace Argentina todos los años. No es novedoso. Es una gestión que las embajadas de Argentina, sus embajadores han hecho desde que tenemos Rural del Prado. Por error se envió al Parlamento no debería haberse enviado más que comunicación”, explicó la vicecanciller Valeria Csukasi en una rueda de prensa este lunes.
“Uruguay tiene una posición histórica de reconocimiento a las Malvinas. Eso no cambia. No cambia tampoco por la presencia o no en eventos como este. Seguimos teniendo la misma posición que hemos tenido: la de apoyo a Argentina en la reivindicación de la causa”.
La explicaciones de los organizadores
El presidente de la ARU, Rafael Ferber, dijo este martes en una rueda de prensa que el stand de las islas en la Rural del Prado, la mayor exposición ganadera e industrial del país, “tiene años”.
“Siempre la Embajada Argentina presenta la nota al presidente de la Rural. Nosotros entendemos la situación. Somos sensibles a la situación de Argentina, sin lugar a dudas. Nosotros le damos un stand al Reino Unido, que no tiene actividad proselitista”, explicó Ferber.
El criterio de la ARU para otorgar un stand es que no haya propaganda política. Por eso, está prohibido entregar un espacio a los partidos políticos ni a ninguna organización que promocione estas actividades.
“Nosotros le damos un stand al Reino Unido. El Estado uruguayo tiene relaciones con Reino Unido y maneja las condiciones con Reino Unido. No somos quienes para decirle qué puede hacer y qué no, mientras se mantenga dentro de nuestras reglas, que son comerciales. Eso es evidente. Así lo hemos aplicado todos estos años y así se ha entendido”, expresó.
Consultado sobre si habían recibido una protesta ellos también, el presidente de la ARU señaló que todos los años el embajadora de Argentina llega a la Rural y expresa de manera firme su posición. “Nosotros le damos nuestro punto de vista y le damos las garantías de que se va a manejar en los carriles que nosotros determinamos. También lo hacemos con Reino Unido”, finalizó el empresario ruralista.
En las imágenes del stand, se puede ver que la Embajada Británica instaló una escenografía en la que se muestran imágenes de las Islas Malvinas, a las que se refieren con el nombre de The Falkland Islands. Allí, el gobierno inglés invita a visitarlas. Además, una de las ofertas del stand británico es una invitación a un “gin tasting” que señala: “Degustá el Gin de las Islas Falkland”
