President Trump confident Putin wants peace with Ukraine, thinks he’s ‘had enough’ of war

Published

Following his phone calls with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, President Donald Trump appeared confident that peace talks between the two warring nations will soon be progressing.

In response to a reporter’s question outside the White House on Monday, Trump said that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is genuine in his seeking a peace deal.

«President Trump, do you think Vladimir Putin wants peace?» the reporter shouted across the lawn.

Trump stopped and responded: «I do. Yes.»

«Do you still trust Putin?» the reporter continued, to which Trump responded: «I do.»

Speaking later that same day, after an event honoring fallen law enforcement officers in the White House, Trump said that he believes Putin has «had enough» of the war.

«I think he’s had enough. I think he’s had enough. It’s been a long time. This has been going on for more than three years. When you think, it’s been going on for a long time,» said the president.

Meanwhile, Trump seemed less confident in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Asked whether Zelenskyy is doing enough to help the peace talks process along, Trump responded: «I’d rather tell you in about two weeks from now, because I can’t say yes or no.»

«Look, he’s a strong person, Zelenskyy, a strong guy, and he’s not the easiest person to deal with,» said Trump. «But I think that he wants to stop, and it’s a very bad thing that’s happening over there. I think he wants to stop. But I could answer that question better in two weeks or four weeks from now. I hope the answer is that he wants to get it solved.»

Trump also commented on newly inaugurated Pope Leo XIV, saying he would like to help facilitate peace between the two nations. Trump said that it would be «great» to have the peace talks at the Vatican.

«There’s tremendous bitterness, anger, and I think maybe that could help some of that anger,» said Trump.

Trump and Putin held a two-hour call on Monday in what the U.S. said was a push to get Russia to end its deadly war in Ukraine.

Both Trump and Putin described the call in a positive light, with the Kremlin chief saying it was «frank» and «useful,» but it is not immediately clear what results were achieved.

Trump took to social media to praise the call as having gone «very well» and said, «Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War.»

«The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of,» he added.

Putin, in a statement after the call, also noted that «a ceasefire with Ukraine is possible» but «Russia and Ukraine must find compromises that suit both sides.»

Any concrete details on the nature of these compromises remain unclear, despite negotiation attempts in Turkey on Friday, which Trump suggested failed because he needed to negotiate with Putin first.

In the lead up to the talks, Trump also spoke with Zelenskyy, along with other world leaders like U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, who said they discussed the urgent need for Putin to agree to an unconditional ceasefire or face serious repercussions, including more sanctions.

Russia currently occupies about 20% of Ukraine’s landmass. However, the Russian military’s advance has significantly slowed to a virtual stalemate.

In October, Fox News Digital reported that Russia has suffered some 600,000 casualties in its war with Ukraine — more than its losses in every conflict since World War II combined.

Major Russia-Ukraine prisoner swap is underway, official says

Published

A major prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine is underway, a senior Ukrainian official said Friday.

The swap is not yet finished, the official told the Associated Press, despite President Donald Trump declaring Friday that Russia and Ukraine completed a «major prisoners swap.»

The announcements come after Russian and Ukrainian officials took part in direct talks in Turkey last Friday for the first time since the early days of the war, agreeing to release around 1,000 prisoners of war.

«A major prisoners swap was just completed between Russia and Ukraine. It will go into effect shortly,» Trump wrote on Truth Social. «Congratulations to both sides on this negotiation. This could lead to something big???»

On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X that «I held a meeting on the preparation for an exchange» and «The agreement to release 1,000 of our people from Russian captivity was perhaps the only tangible result of the meeting in Turkey.»

Trump had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday. Following the conversation, Trump said «I believe it went very well.»

«Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War. The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of,» Trump said. «The tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent. If it wasn’t, I would say so now, rather than later.»

Panorama Internacional: Crisis en Oriente Medio y la circunstancia Netanyahu

Published

on

This state just became the latest in the country to ban sanctuary cities

Published

on

CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire on Thursday became the first state in New England to ban so-called sanctuary cities.

«There will be no sanctuary cities in New Hampshire, period, end of story,» Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte said at a bill signing ceremony at the state Capitol.

Speaking with Fox News Digital minutes later, Ayotte noted that the measures she signed «ban sanctuary cities in New Hampshire but also allow cooperation between all of our law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.»

New Hampshire joins a growing number of states in banning sanctuary cities, which is a term used to describe jurisdictions that put some limits on cooperating with efforts by federal authorities to deport illegal immigrants.

Ayotte, a former state attorney general who later served six years representing New Hampshire in the U.S. Senate, made banning sanctuary cities a key element in her successful 2024 run for governor. Ayotte’s campaign slogan was «Don’t Mass up New Hampshire,» as she took aim at neighboring Massachusetts’ more lenient migrant policies.

«I campaigned on making sure we would not have sanctuary cities here in New Hampshire, and we don’t want to go the way of Massachusetts that has had a billion-dollar illegal immigration crisis,» the governor said in her national digital exclusive interview with Fox News.

Ayotte noted that she supports «legal immigration, but when people aren’t following our laws, we need to enforce our laws and this is about public safety.»

«New Hampshire is ranked the safest state in the nation, and I was glad I was able to sign the bill banning sanctuary cities to make sure we remain that way,» the governor added.

The two bills were passed in the GOP-dominated state legislature mostly along party lines.

State Sen. Bill Gannon, the top sponsor in the state Senate, said that the measures would «make us an even safer place to work, live, and raise a family.»

And state Rep. Joe Sweeney, the lead House sponsor, said that «we are taking the handfcuffs off our law enforcement officers, and hopefully they’ll be able to work with our federal government, ICE, to put the handcuffs on the criminal illegal aliens that are violating and disobeying our laws.»

President Donald Trump repeatedly took aim at sanctuary cities as he made the issue of illegal immigration a key component to his successful 2024 campaign to win back the White House.

And Trump last month signed an executive order putting some muscle behind his threat to pull federal funding from sanctuary cities.

Some Democrats in New Hampshire, who opposed the measure, pointed to Trump’s efforts in the nation’s capital.

WHAT AYOTTE TOLD FOX NEWS ABOUT SECURITY THE NATION’S NORTHERN BORDER

«What this bill does, under the guise of enabling New Hampshire law enforcement to support federal immigration efforts, is to make our state a willing accomplice in a politically manufactured campaign of state terrorism against a group of people, the vast majority of whom came here not to victimize America, but because they love America and they believe America is good,» state Rep. David Meuse told reporters.

But Ayotte, asked about the lack of support from across the political aisle for the two bills, said, «I don’t understand where the Democrats are on these policies.»

According to the New Hampshire Municipal Association, there are no sanctuary cities in the state, while a handful of cities and towns in the state have described themselves as «welcoming cities» that encourage a welcoming environment for all people, regardless of their race, ethnicity or origin.

But state Republican lawmakers pointed to between nine and 12 cities and towns in New Hampshire that they have identified over the years as welcome or sanctuary cities.
