Canada’s Liberal Party is projected to win the country’s federal election for the fourth consecutive time.

The Liberals are led by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who took over after Justin Trudeau resigned.

As of late Monday, the Liberal Party was also leading with 137 seats won in Parliament as opposed to the 98 seats held by the Conservative Party.

A party needs to win 172 seats in order to hold the majority.

Apenas pasadas las 8 de la mañana en España, la Red Nacional de Ferrocarriles Españoles (Renfe) informó que por un problema de suministro de energía eléctrica el servicio quedaba suspendido y sus formaciones inmovilizadas. Mientras tanto, cerca de 30 mil pasajeros quedaban varados en medio de los recorridos de los trenes a lo largo y a lo ancho de gran parte de la península ibérica.

La compañía española reportó oficialmente que debió evacuar a entre 30.000 y 35.000 personas y que en el momento en que se produjo el apagón había en circulación 116 trenes, con una capacidad media de 300 pasajeros.

El ministro español de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible, Óscar Puente, dijo en X que «la máxima prioridad» era «rescatar y atender a los viajeros atrapados».

«Seguimos con la situación muy complicada en Alta Velocidad», admitió Puente, quien durante el correr de la jornada había desestimado la posibilidad de recuperar este lunes la circulación de trenes de media y larga distancia.

De hecho, Renfe informó en redes sociales, cerca de las 4 de la tarde, hora argentina que los trenes de Cercanías no prestarán servicio durante el resto del dia debido al corte de suministro eléctrico.

El gestor de la infraestructura ferroviaria española (Adif) anunció por su parte la suspensión de todos los servicios ferroviarios de todas las compañías hasta nueva comunicación.

Sin embargo, Adif comunicó además que mantendrá abiertas las principales estaciones de tren de las grandes ciudades, para que la gente pueda pernoctar.

Algunas de esas estaciones, enumeró Renfe, eran Atocha y Chamartín (Madrid), Sants (Barcelona), Bilbao, Valencia, Sevilla, Córdoba, Zaragoza, Valladolid y Málaga.

La lista la completaban las estaciones de Calatayud, Puertollano, Cuenca, Albacete y Guadalajara.

Por su parte, el Metro de Madrid, que en sus redes apenas comenzado el día anunciaba a los ganadores de un concurso por El Día del Libro, de inmediato comunicó en X que sus servicios estaban interrumpidos «por causas ajenas debido a falta de suministro eléctrico».

Su siguiente y única actualización se dio unas horas más tarde para informar que todas sus líneas permanecían cerradas. A pesar de las consultas online de usuarios, la cuenta oficial del subte capitalino no dio más detalles.

La Guardia Civil española, a las 15, hora argentina, publicó en redes sociales que en las cercanías de Palencia se asistió a los 230 pasajeros de un tren parado por el apagón. «Se les ha suministrado agua», contó el escueto posteo.

En otras publicaciones mostraron además cómo evacuaban pasajeros, algunos en camilla, y diferentes operativos llevados a cabo para mantener el orden, por ejemplo, del tráfico.

Por su parte, usuarios del transporte público en España contaron también sus experiencias a bordo durante el apagón que afectó al país ibérico, Portugal y parte de Francia.

Muchos de ellos publicaron fotos de cómo tuvieron que caminar al costado de las vías con equipaje y todo, debido a la interrupción, en plena ruta, de los servicios de trenes de larga, media y cercana distancia.

Una usuaria debió sacarle una foto a su ticket con una consola portátil de juegos por temor a que su teléfono celular se quede sin batería.

El sitio La Vanguardia mostró a persona que cortaban con herramientas alambrados que separan las vías de zonas aledañas para llegar hasta el tren y asistir a los pasajeros varados.

El popular streamer español DjMariio viajaba en un tren entre Barcelona y Zaragoza cuando sucedió el corte nacional. A través de un video publicado en sus redes sociales, relató el accidente que sufrió junto a otros pasajeros: el convoy se detuvo en mitad de un campo en una zona rural, quedando completamente apagado y sin aire acondicionado.

«Tres horas ya aquí tirados entre Barcelona y Zaragoza, tren apagado sin aire acondicionado y con mucho calor. Tampoco funciona el baño, vamos de vez en cuando a tomar el aire a las puertas que han dejado abiertas», explicó el creador de contenido.

A California human trafficking bill to combat child sex trafficking is being gutted with the reluctant agreement of the bill’s author to remove a provision that targets consumers in an effort to get the legislation passed. 

State Assemblywoman Maggy Krell, a Democrat, agreed to remove a clause from Assembly Bill 379 that states buyers of 16 and 17-year-olds for sex would face felony charges, leaving the solicitation of those minors by adults to be treated as a misdemeanor. 

«In order to get a hearing on the bill, we were forced to remove the piece of the bill that ensures the crime of purchasing a minor for sex applies in all cases where the victim is under the age of 18,» Krell told Fox News Digital.

«I wholeheartedly disagree with that amendment,» she added. «This has been my life’s work and I will continue to partner with sex trafficking survivors and law enforcement to ensure all minors are protected from the horrors of sex trafficking.»

Krell noted that the bill still criminalizes «the creeps who are loitering to buy teenagers for sex and sets up a fund to help victims. Those will be powerful tools in the fight against sex trafficking — it’s a good start.»

California Assembly Republicans quickly criticized Democrats over the change. 

«Why are some @AssemblyDems planning to cut felony charges for adults who buy 16- and 17-year-olds for sex?,» California Assembly Republicans posted on X. «There are no excuses. Protect the kids. Not the predators.»

Earlier, media reports stated that lawmakers wanted to hold off on the bill and possibly hold information hearings on the issue in the fall. 

The bill came together after older teens were left out of a state law that went into effect this year that makes it a felony to purchase a child, ages 15 and younger for sex. Last year, California State Sen. Shannon Grove authored a bill that made it illegal to buy minors for sex, but it excluded 16 and 17 year-olds.

Currently, traffickers, not the buyers, face the harshest consequences when convicted of trafficking anyone under 18. 

AB 379 faced a key deadline this Friday and was dropped from the Public Safety Committee agenda for Tuesday’s meeting.

State Rep. David Tangipa, a Republican, said the move was a way to kill a bill that lawmakers don’t want to be heard. If Krell didn’t want to accept the amendment, then the committee chair, Rep. Nick Schultz, would have discretion over whether the legislation should be heard, Tangipa said. 

«Apparently, what they want to do is remove the 16 and 17-year-old portion of the bill and then just increase penalties and fines,» Tangipa, who has a relative who was previously trafficked, told Fox News Digital. «What that actually sounds like is just California participating in the prostitution and the trafficking themselves.»

In a post on X, the California Republican Party criticized the state Democratic Party, saying that it was «sad and disgusting that this is even a debate over at the pro-criminal» Democrats.
