Trump-backed candidate aims to pad GOP’s fragile House majority battle in showdown for MTG’s seat

ROME, GA — Republican congressional candidate Clay Fuller says that Tuesday’s special election runoff in Georgia is «extremely crucial.»
Fuller is facing off against Democrat Shawn Harris in the race to fill the seat in Georgia’s solidly red 14th Congressional District — in the northwest part of the state — left vacant when MAGA firebrand Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene stepped down at the beginning of January. Greene quit Congress with a year left in her term, after a bitter falling out with President Donald Trump.
The special election, held on the same day as a state Supreme Court contest in battleground Wisconsin, comes as Republicans cling to a razor-thin 218–214 majority in the House. The GOP cannot afford any surprises and allow the Democrats to pull an upset in the special election, in a district Trump carried by a whopping 37 points in his 2024 presidential victory.
«We need the reinforcements,» Fuller, a local district attorney and a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard who’s served in the Air Force since 2009, emphasized in a Fox News Digital interview on the eve of the runoff election, as he pointed to the GOP’s fragile majority. «I think the voters in Georgia 14 understand that, and they’re looking forward to sending a MAGA America first fighter up on Capitol Hill to support that agenda.»

Asked if he was concerned that MAGA supporters would sit out what may be a low turnout election since the president is not on the ballot, Fuller said voters «would crawl through glass to make sure they have a representative up there that fight for them and fight for President Trump, and that’s why we’re going to have the votes pouring out on April 7.»

Harris, a cattle farmer who spent four decades in the military and retired as an Army brigadier general, needs the support of crossover Republicans in order to pull off an upset.
«I am a Democrat, but I’m not tied to the party,» Harris highlighted as he spoke with Fox News Digital. And Harris argued, «My opponent, Clay, cannot say that. He actually sold his soul to President Trump.»
Harris, pointing to surging gas prices fueled by Trump’s military attack on Iran, said when voters «go to the polls, they will have to stop at the pump, and that’ll be the last thing they think about before they go and vote. And they’re going to say, ‘You know what, Shawn Harris is the only one that’s talking about bringing down costs, Shawn Harris is the only one is saying, ‘I’m going to stand up for the people here in Northwest Georgia, period.»
«We will win this war militarily. However, if we don’t watch it and be clear with the American people, based on these gas prices and diesel prices, we could actually lose this war politically.»
Harris said he «will support President Trump on things like the…southern border.» But he added «when it comes to things like…a forever war. Send me. I will push back.»
Fuller said that «the voters in Georgia-14 support the president in this endeavor. They understand that the Iranian regime was a long term threat to our national security…they understand that President Trump is making the world safer, and they understand that there may be short term pain at the gas pump, and they’ll expect those prices to drop as soon as this conflict is over.»
Harris grabbed 37% of the vote, with Fuller at 35% amid a field of 17 candidates, including 12 Republicans, in the first round of voting in early March. Since no candidate topped 50%, Harris and Fuller advanced to Tuesday’s runoff.
The congressional seat — which stretches from Atlanta’s outer suburbs to the state’s northwest borders with Alabama and Tennessee — was left vacant when Greene quit Congress with a year left in her term, after a very public falling out with Trump mostly over her push to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.

While Greene remains popular among Republicans in the district, Fuller said the voters he’s talked with on the campaign trail «are focused on the fights of the future, not anything that had happened in the past.»
Asked if he’s talked with Greene, Fuller said he «reached out to Rep. Greene, had conversations with her and got advice on the district, and I’ll keep those conversations confidential.»
Harris, who as a first-time candidate lost to Greene by nearly 29 points in her 2024 re-election, emphasized that «I’m not running against Marjorie Taylor Greene anymore,» and that his name «carries more weight than any other name in this district.»
If Harris loses but holds Fuller’s margin to the mid-teens or less, national Democrats will argue the election is the latest in nearly 15 months since Trump returned to the White House in which they’ve overperformed.

The ballot box brawl in Northwest Georgia isn’t the only electoral showdown on Tuesday. There’s also a state Supreme Court election in battleground Wisconsin.
While officially a non-partisan contest, state Supreme Court elections in Wisconsin have become extremely partisan in recent years.
With the court’s majority on the line in last year’s contest, outside money poured in and out-of-state door knockers blanketed Wisconsin. One of the biggest spenders was Trump ally Elon Musk, who headlined a rally days before the election and donned a cheesehead hat worn by fans of the Green Bay Packers.

Democrats won that election by a larger-than-expected margin and currently hold a 4-3 majority on Wisconsin’s highest court.

With a conservative justice retiring, the majority isn’t at stake in this year’s election, although if state Appeals Court Judge Chris Taylor, a former democratic state representative, wins, liberals would expand their majority on the high court to 5-2.
If Appeals Court Judge Maria Lazar, a conservative, wins or keeps the margins close, the GOP may claim a moral victory.

The White House tore into Democrat activist and failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams on Monday after she argued President Donald Trump’s executive order seeking to rein in mail-in voting was «illegal.»
«Has Stacey Abrams conceded the multiple elections she lost yet or is she still pretending to be Governor?» White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital. «Election integrity has always been a top priority for President Trump, and the American people sent him back to the White House because they overwhelmingly supported his commonsense election integrity agenda.»
The comment was in response to Abrams, who said during an appearance on MS NOW over the weekend that Trump’s order would disenfranchise voters, resurfacing long-held tensions with the president amid his latest push to enhance voter security ahead of the midterms. Abrams previously ran for Georgia governor twice and refused to formally concede her 2018 election.
«It is patently illegal, and it is entirely in the playbook of voter suppression that Republicans, including Donald Trump, have been using for the last decade or so,» Abrams said.

Trump’s order, called «Ensuring Citizenship Verification and Integrity in Federal Elections,» directs the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration, in coordination with state leaders, to create a list of citizens, and then directed the U.S. Postal Service to only deliver mail-in ballots to people on the list.
«The president will do everything in his power to defend the safety and security of American elections and to ensure that only American citizens are voting in them – that’s only controversial for Democrats like Stacey,» Jackson added.
Abrams founded Fair Fight Action after her 2018 loss to Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, saying Georgia’s election system suppressed voters. The group was later ordered to reimburse the state more than $200,000 in legal costs after an unsuccessful lawsuit.
Separately, Abrams-linked advocacy groups have faced campaign-finance and nonprofit-compliance scrutiny, including a Georgia Ethics Commission case involving the New Georgia Project and a 2025 IRS complaint targeting Fair Fight Action.
Abrams has since criticized Republican-led voting initiatives at the federal and state level as relics of the Jim Crow era and designed to disenfranchise racial minorities.
«The Constitution gives to the states the authority to determine how elections are held,» Abrams said. «What the Republican regime is upset about is that democracy has been working.»

Trump criticized Abrams as far back as 2018 over her stance on voting, accusing her of wanting «illegal aliens to vote.» Abrams «opposed requiring proof of American citizenship at the ballot box,» Trump said at the time.
Trump has long argued that noncitizen voting, which is illegal, is a widespread problem in U.S. elections. In addition to his executive order, Trump has urged Congress to pass the SAVE Act before the 2026 elections to impose a physical identification requirement on people registering to vote, though it lacks the needed support from Democratic senators to advance in the upper chamber.
While the White House has framed Trump’s executive order as an effort to bolster election integrity, Abrams and other critics argued it intruded on state authority and would unfairly suppress votes.
«The biggest risk for Americans right now is that we see these as piecemeal, and we don’t recognize it’s part of a pattern,» Abrams said. «This is step 10 in an authoritarian playbook. You end democracy.»

Abrams also alleged that the executive order would serve to create a master list of voters, effectively usurping state control over voter registration lists and federalizing elections.
«The creation of a database … should terrify all of us,» Abrams said. «That is an attempt to do national surveillance.»

In addition to Abrams’ criticisms, roughly two dozen states and voting rights groups filed lawsuits seeking to block the executive order, arguing Trump’s directives violated the Constitution by encroaching on states’ authority to administer elections.
Fox News Digital reached out to an Abrams representative for comment.

Vence el ultimátum de Trump a Irán: los riesgos de una escalada bélica con graves consecuencias en la región
Este martes a las 21:00 horas de la Argentina vence el nuevo ultimátum fijado por Donald Trump para que Irán libere el estratégico estrecho de Ormuz, bajo amenaza de “aniquilar” el país “en una noche” y devolverlo a la “edad de piedra”.
No es el primer ultimátum del presidente estadounidense en esta guerra que ya transita su quinta semana. De hecho, el 21 de marzo ya había dado 48 horas al gobierno iraní para reabrir este paso marítimo si no quería ver “arrasadas” todas sus centrales eléctricas.
Pero dos días después extendió el plazo y el 26 del mismo mes otra vez lo volvió a posponer hasta el 6 de abril. Ahora la nueva fecha es este martes 7.
En cada ultimátum, Irán siempre respondió con una mayor retórica belicista. Mientras tanto, las negociaciones circulaban por carriles diplomáticos liderados por Pakistán.
“Dada la retórica violenta y maximalista de Trump, y los repetidos ataques israelíes contra objetivos civiles iraníes, las perspectivas de un alto el fuego son bastante escasas en este momento”, dijo a TN el analista egipcio Mehran Kamrava, profesor de ciencias políticas de la Universidad de Georgetown, en Qatar.
¿Pueden Estados Unidos e Irán llegar a un acuerdo?
Nadie duda de que Estados Unidos, con la ayuda de Israel, ganó la guerra militar ante la enorme supremacía bélica demostrada en el terreno. Hoy Irán está muy debilitado y la única estrategia del gobierno de los ayatolas pasa por garantizar su supervivencia. Así, su plan es simplemente resistir y reprimir cualquier atisbo de levantamiento popular.
Sabe que si Trump lanza una invasión, aunque sea acotada en las islas del paso marítimo, entrará en una guerra interminable y peligrosa, como ya pasó en Irak y Afganistán.
Pero además, Teherán tiene un arma secreta: el cierre virtual del estrecho de Ormuz, por donde pasaba el 20% del comercio petrolero mundial. Su clausura puso al mundo en problemas.
Ese es el punto débil que Trump y sus generales no pudieron resolver frente a la presión cada vez más grande de sus aliados europeos y de las filas de su partido republicano ante un preocupante aumento de los combustibles en un año electoral. Trump afrontará en noviembre unas elecciones intermedias que marcarán el rumbo del segundo tramo de su mandato. Si la guerra se extiende, corre el riesgo de perder el control del Capitolio.
En ese escenario, al presidente republicano no le queda más que recurrir a su contradictoria locuacidad bélica para amenazar a Irán a aceptar un acuerdo. Mientras el domingo habló de un pacto cercano en medio de “negociaciones profundas”, ayer volvió a advertir a su enemigo con devolverlo a la “edad de piedra”.

“Trump se caracteriza por su estilo deliberadamente errático y contradictorio. En un momento parece conciliador y asegura progreso en supuestas negociaciones; y al otro se muestra inflexible y combativo. Se siente cómodo creando incertidumbre, en tanto le permite mayor libertad de acción y menos costos por contradecirse”, dijo a TN el analista internacional Federico Gaón, especializado en Medio Oriente.
Además, afirmó: “Está comprando tiempo, pero veo muy difícil que Irán dé marcha atrás. Siguiendo los últimos acontecimientos y ataques de un bando y otro, creo que el ciclo de escalación continuará esta semana».
En medio de ese panorama confuso, la Casa Blanca confirmó este lunes que había recibido una propuesta de mediadores para un alto el fuego de 45 días, pero dijo que Trump “no la validó”.
Según el sitio estadounidense Axios, la propuesta fue elevada por mediadores paquistaníes, egipcios y turcos.

Desde Islamabab, la cancillería paquistaní confirmó que las negociaciones de paz entre Estados Unidos e Irán están “en curso”.
“No comentamos hechos específicos individuales. Nuestro punto es que el proceso de paz está en marcha”, dijo el portavoz, Tahir Andrabi, en un breve comunicado.
El canal diplomático abierto incluye al enviado especial de Trump, Steve Witkoff, y al canciller iraní, Abbas Araqchí. El ministro iraní ya rechazó un plan estadounidense al que calificó de “extremadamente ambicioso e ilógico”.
¿Qué puede pasar en el Golfo si Trump ataca infraestructura civil iraní?
Trump entiende que amenazar a Irán con su “destrucción” total es la única manera de presionar a los ayatolas a aceptar un acuerdo antes de evaluar una invasión terrestre.
Pero su amenaza de destruir todos los puentes y la infraestructura eléctrica iraní puede llevar al conflicto a un terreno desconocido.

Analistas en el área no dudan de que Irán responderá de la misma manera y atacará infraestructura civil de los países del Golfo. En la mira, podrían estar las plantas desalinizadoras y las centrales eléctricas.
La región podría entrar en una grave crisis con dramáticas repercusiones internacionales.
Las Naciones Unidas lo dejaron bien claro a través de una contundente advertencia a Trump hecha por el portavoz del secretario general, Antonio Guterres.
“La ONU se muestra muy clara en cuestiones relacionadas con el derecho internacional y, una vez más, insta a todas las partes a que cumplan con sus obligaciones en lo que respecta a la conducción de estas hostilidades. Recuerda que las infraestructuras civiles, incluidas las infraestructuras energéticas, no pueden ser atacadas”, indicó el vocero, Stéphane Dujarric.
Irán advirtió que este tipo de ataques constituirían “crímenes de guerra”, algo a lo que Trump dijo que no le preocupaba. El conflicto parece haber entrado en una disputa retórica.

Por años se ha querido instalar una falsa disyuntiva en el norte de México, específicamente en Nuevo León: crecimiento o justicia, empresa o comunidad, industria o bienestar. Esa discusión, hay que decirlo con claridad, es artificial y además es ajena a nuestra historia.
Porque si algo ha definido al industrialismo regiomontano es precisamente lo contrario: la capacidad de crecer con sentido, de producir con responsabilidad y de entender que la riqueza solo vale cuando se comparte.
Ahí está el legado de Eugenio Garza Sada, el gran referente del industrialismo norteño, quien lo dijo con una claridad que hoy sigue marcando rumbo: “El respeto a la dignidad de la persona humana está por encima de cualquier consideración económica”. Y también lo dejó establecido sin ambigüedades: “El empresario debe tener un profundo sentido de responsabilidad social”. Ese es el verdadero ADN industrial de Nuevo León. No el egoísmo, no la acumulación sin límite, no el éxito aislado, sino una ética productiva donde la empresa sirve a la persona y no al revés.
Y justo ahí es donde hay que poner orden en la conversación pública: la 4T Norteña, el modelo de gobierno que ya ha sido probado con éxito en la Zona Metropolitana de Nuevo León no es contraria a ese legado, es su evolución natural. Hoy, bajo el liderazgo de la Presidenta de México, la Dra. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, y su visión de Crecimiento Equitativo, estamos observando con claridad que el desarrollo económico sí puede ir de la mano con la justicia social; que eso no solo es posible, es indispensable.
La 4T Norteña como modelo de gestión pública parte de una lógica profundamente norteña: la economía tiene que crecer, pero ese crecimiento tiene que sentirse en la vida diaria de la gente. Ese es el corazón del modelo, impulso a la inversión, industria, innovación y productividad, y sobre esa base asegurar que el crecimiento se convierta en desarrollo incluyente. Eso no es ideología, es sentido común con identidad industrialista real y viable.
En este contexto, la empresa adquiere un papel decisivo. Hoy más que nunca, la empresa ya no puede entenderse solo como un espacio de generación de utilidades; es, en realidad, el campo de batalla moral del siglo XXI. Ahí se define si el crecimiento incluye o excluye, si genera comunidad o fragmentación, si fortalece o debilita el tejido social. Como lo afirma Monseñor Ramón Castro: “La empresa no es solo instrumento económico, sino comunidad de personas”. Y esta idea está profundamente arraigada en la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia. Caritas in veritate lo expresa con claridad: “La empresa… es una sociedad de personas” (Benedicto XVI, 2009, n. 43, en el artículo de Carlos Anaya Moreno).
Esto conecta de forma directa con el pensamiento de Garza Sada y con la lógica de la 4T Norteña, porque si la empresa es comunidad, entonces el crecimiento económico también es una responsabilidad moral. El empleo deja de ser un indicador y se convierte en dignidad; el salario deja de ser un costo y se vuelve bienestar; la inversión deja de ser una cifra y se convierte en futuro compartido.
Por eso resulta importante decirlo con todas sus letras: lo que sí es ajeno a Nuevo León no es la transformación, es el individualismo extremo. Esa visión neoliberal que reduce todo al éxito personal, que mide el desarrollo solo en acumulación, que rompe el tejido social y que olvida que nadie sale adelante solo, sí es distante de nuestra identidad.
Aquí, en el norte, la historia es otra. Aquí hay cultura de esfuerzo, sí, pero también hay solidaridad; hay competencia, pero también hay comunidad; hay ambición, pero también hay responsabilidad moral. Y en estos días de Pascua, esa dimensión moral cobra una relevancia aún mayor. Porque los valores que recordamos, la cercanía, la humildad, el servicio, el compromiso con los demás, no son ajenos a la economía: son su base más profunda. Una economía sin ética se vuelve frágil; una economía sin comunidad se vuelve insostenible; una economía sin sentido social pierde legitimidad.
Por eso la 4T Norteña no solo es compatible con el industrialismo de Nuevo León: es la forma de actualizarlo, de proyectarlo hacia el futuro, de construir su segundo piso. No se trata de romper con nuestra historia, sino de elevarla. No se trata de elegir entre crecimiento o bienestar, sino de construir un modelo donde ambos avancen juntos. Un modelo donde el empresario tenga certeza, donde la inversión encuentre condiciones, donde la industria crezca, y donde, al mismo tiempo, cada familia vea mejoras reales en su calidad de vida. Eso es lo que ya está demostrando la 4T Norteña: que sí es aliada del crecimiento, que sí genera prosperidad y que sí la comparte con justicia.
Nuevo León no necesita dividirse entre modelos. Necesita reconocerse en lo mejor de su historia. Y lo mejor de su historia siempre ha sido esto: trabajo, comunidad, valores y un profundo sentido de responsabilidad social. Ese es el camino, siempre lo ha sido y nunca debimos alejarnos de él.
