WH says ‘no dispute’ deported suspected gang member had MS-13 tattoos despite photos to the contrary
President Donald Trump defended the deportation of illegal alien and alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia during a fiery interview with ABC, pointing to a photo he shared on social media clearly showing the notorious gang’s name tattooed across Abrego Garcia’s knuckles.
Other recent photos of the illegal alien, however, do not appear to show the tattoo, Fox News Digital found.
«Ask any law or immigration enforcement official who’s been on the ground about Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s tattoos: they’re MS-13,» White House spokesman Kush Desai told Fox News Digital Wednesday when asked about other photos appearing not to show «MS13» tattooed on Abrego Garcia’s hand. «An ICE investigation, a local police investigation, and the government of El Salvador have all determined that he is a wife-beating MS-13 terrorist illegal alien who should never have been in the United States. There is no dispute about these facts.»
Trump joined ABC News for an interview in the Oval Office that aired on Trump’s 100th day back in the White House, where he defended that Abrego Garcia had «MS13» scrawled across his hand.
«On his knuckles he had MS-13,» Trump told ABC in an interview that aired Tuesday, referring to Abrego Garcia, who was deported to El Salvador’s notorious high-security prison CECOT in March, before he was moved to another detention center in the country earlier in April.
«He had some tattoos that were interpreted that way,» ABC’s Terry Moran replied.
«M-S-1-3 — It says M-S-one-three,» Trump continued in the interview.

Trump shared a photo to his social media accounts April 18 showing a man’s hand with «MS-13» tattooed across his knuckles above other tattoos, such as a marijuana leaf, smiley face, cross and a depiction of a human skull.
Trump continued that Moran was doing «such a disservice» by claiming a photo clearly showing «MS-13» tattooed across the hand was «Photoshopped,» arguing Moran was spreading «fake news.»

Fox News Digital examined two separate photos of Abrego Garcia shared with the media in recent weeks that do not appear to show the MS-13 tattoo.

Chris Van Hollen, who visited El Salvador in April to protest the Trump administration’s deportation of the man.
The photo shows other tattoos across Abrego Garcia’s knuckles — including the marijuana leaf, smiley face, cross and human skull tattoos — but does not appear to show «MS13» like in the photo shared by Trump.
Another photo shared by CASA, an immigration activist group, earlier in April showed a separate photo of Abrego Garcia with his young son that also did not appear to show the tattoo. Fox News Digital reached out to CASA for additional details and comment on the matter, but did not immediately receive a reply Wednesday morning.

Abrego Garcia entered the U.S. illegally from his home country in El Salvador in 2011 and was issued a deportation order in 2019, Fox News Digital previously reported. Trump administration officials acknowledged in court in March that his March 15 deportation had been an administrative error, but have since defended the deportation and argued that El Salvador could release him if the nation chose to do so.

Abrego Garcia was suspected of partaking in labor/human trafficking, according to a 2022 Homeland Security Investigations report previously obtained by Fox News. The report also stated that «official law enforcement investigations» revealed that Abrego Garcia was a member of the notorious gang MS-13, which Trump has designated as a terror organization.

Abrego Garcia was pulled over by a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper Dec. 1, 2022, after he spotted the car speeding and not remaining in its lane, according to the Homeland Security Investigations report.
The trooper noticed eight individuals in the car with Abrego Garcia, who said he began driving three days prior from Houston to Temple Hills, Maryland, via St. Louis to «perform construction work,» Fox Digital previously reported. The report states that the trooper suspected the group was involved with a human trafficking incident, as there was no luggage in the vehicle.

New documents further revealed that Abrego Garcia was driving a black 2001 Chevrolet Suburban that he said belonged to his «boss.» The Suburban was identified by the Department of Homeland Security as belonging to Hernandez Reyes, who pleaded guilty to human smuggling after being caught in Mississippi in a car with passengers from Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras, Fox Digital previously reported.

The Homeland Security Investigations report also notes that in October 2019, the Prince Georges County Police Gang Unit identified Abrego Garcia as a member of the notorious Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang.

Abrego Garcia was also recently revealed to have a record of being a «violent» repeat wife beater, according to court records filed in a Prince George’s County, Maryland, district court by his wife, Jennifer Vasquez.
His wife, however, has since publicly defended him.
«I find myself pleading with the Trump administration and the Bukele administration to stop playing political games with the life of Kilmar,» she said earlier this month before a federal court judge. «Our family is torn apart during this scary time. Our children miss their dad so much.»

The deportation has been wrapped up in court proceedings since last month, with a Maryland federal judge ordering the Department of justice to «take all available steps to facilitate» his return to the U.S., which was a ruling upheld by an appeals court and the the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Trump administration, however, contends that «cannot guarantee success in sensitive international negotiations» with El Salvador to secure the release.

«The United States does not control the sovereign nation of El Salvador, nor can it compel El Salvador to follow a federal judge’s bidding,» Solicitor General John Sauer wrote in the Trump administration’s Supreme Court petition earlier this month, the New York Post reported.

President Donald Trump is calling Texas lawmakers’ approval of a sweeping redistricting plan to add up to five new GOP-leaning congressional seats a «Big WIN» for Republicans.
Trump fired off a post via Truth Social hailing the state for «never letting us down,» saying the victory was more than a state win but a national turning point. He went on to urge other Republican-led states to follow the Lone Star State’s lead.
«Big WIN for the Great State of Texas!!! Everything Passed, on our way to FIVE more Congressional seats and saving your Rights, your Freedoms, and your Country, itself. Texas never lets us down. Florida, Indiana, and others are looking to do the same thing. More seats equals less Crime, a great Economy, and a STRONG SECOND AMENDMENT. It means Happiness and Peace,» he said.

Trump also suggested that a move in that direction could secure as many as 100 additional seats for the GOP nationwide if they followed suit.

Texas Republicans pushed the new congressional map through the state House Wednesday in an 88–52 party-line vote, brushing aside Democratic objections in a bid to strengthen the GOP’s hold on Congress heading into 2026.

While Trump celebrated the redistricting as a major Republican win, Democrats framed it as only the beginning of a much larger legal battle.
«This part of the fight is over, but it is merely the first chapter… Our best shot is in the courts. This is not over. We will continue fighting,» said Rep. Gene Wu of Houston.
Texas House Democrats also accused the GOP of trying to dilute minority voting power, saying the map was illegal and racially discriminatory.

«Members, it breaks my heart to see how this illegal and rigged, mid-decade redistricting scheme is dividing our state and our country,» Rep. Chris Turner, a Democrat, said. «This is Texas, it’s not Washington D.C. The impulses of outside politicians and their billionaire backers shouldn’t dictate what we do in this chamber, in this House.»
«This process was a total sham from the very beginning… This is a racist power grab that especially goes after our African American and Latino representatives,» said Rep. Jon Rosenthal
Republicans defended the map as necessary to reflect population growth and safeguard voter representation.
«Different from everyone else, I’m telling you, I’m not beating around the bush,» Rep. Todd Hunter, said about the map’s goal. «We have five new districts, and these five new districts are based on political performance.»

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and the California Democrats unveiled their new map last week in an effort to nullify the map Texas Republicans were creating. If that bill is passed, it would create five new Democratic-leaning congressional districts that would counteract Texas.
The dueling maps highlight the high-stakes fight for control of the House, with both parties using redistricting to try to lock in their advantage before 2026.

El presidente de Ucrania, Volodimir Zelensky, declaró que sólo aceptará reunirse con su homólogo ruso, Vladimir Putin, una vez que Kiev reciba garantías de seguridad claras, y advirtió que, en caso de que Moscú se niegue al diálogo, Estados Unidos debe responder con sanciones y nuevas medidas de presión económica.
En un encuentro con periodistas, Zelensky explicó que espera definiciones rápidas sobre este tema. “Queremos comprender la arquitectura de las garantías de seguridad en un plazo de 7 a 10 días. Y con base en ese entendimiento, pretendemos celebrar una reunión trilateral”, señaló, en alusión también a la participación del presidente estadounidense Donald Trump.
El mandatario ucraniano mencionó a Suiza, Austria y Turquía como posibles sedes del encuentro. “Suiza, Austria… estamos de acuerdo… Para nosotros, Turquía es un país de la OTAN y parte de Europa. Y no nos oponemos”, mencionó.
Sin embargo, Zelensky advirtió que si Moscú no acepta la reunión, la presión internacional debe aumentar. “Reaccioné de inmediato a la reunión bilateral. Estamos preparados. ¿Y si los rusos no están preparados? Los europeos plantearon este problema. Si los rusos no están preparados, nos gustaría ver una reacción contundente de Estados Unidos”, declaró.
El presidente ucraniano subrayó la importancia de intensificar la presión económica contra Rusia: “Todos entendemos que las sanciones secundarias son una fuerza letal para Rusia. Y entendemos que las necesitamos. Entendemos que los nuevos aranceles que el presidente Trump podría imponer a ciertos países que mantienen relaciones con Rusia también afectarán a la economía rusa”.
Zelensky afirmó que transmitió a Trump un mensaje directo: “Estamos listos para una configuración de reuniones bilaterales y trilaterales, y si Rusia no está preparada, solicitaremos la introducción de aranceles. Solicitamos sanciones adicionales, medidas arancelarias por parte de Estados Unidos, porque esto realmente funcionará”.
El presidente reiteró que Ucrania está comprometida con la paz y con mostrar flexibilidad en el diálogo. “Ucrania desea el fin de la guerra y lo demuestra claramente, en particular, con su disposición a cualquier tipo de encuentro entre los líderes. Por lo tanto, ahora debe haber un paso por parte de Rusia”.
En relación con la integración europea, Zelensky reveló que pidió a Trump interceder con el primer ministro húngaro, Viktor Orban, para que no bloquee la adhesión de Ucrania a la Unión Europea. “Le pedí al presidente Trump que no bloqueara nuestra adhesión a la Unión Europea. El presidente Trump prometió que su equipo trabajaría en ello”, afirmó.
Zelensky insistió en que la entrada de su país en la UE es un derecho soberano: “Creo que es absolutamente justo que Ucrania quiera unirse a la Unión Europea. Tiene todo el derecho a hacerlo. Es nuestro derecho soberano. Y en este aspecto, Estados Unidos nos apoyará. Y, según tengo entendido, las señales pertinentes de la Casa Blanca llegarán a Budapest”.
El presidente ucraniano también explicó que las garantías de seguridad en negociación buscan un mecanismo equivalente al Artículo 5 de la OTAN. Indicó que actualmente existen 30 países en la llamada Coalición de la Voluntad, que analizan distintas formas de contribuir, desde defensa aérea hasta apoyo financiero.
“Algunos podrían estar en el terreno. Otros están listos para proporcionar defensa aérea. Algunos cubrirán o patrullarán el cielo. Algunos sólo estarán listos para recibir financiación, porque tienen neutralidad u otro estatus en su Constitución”, afirmó.
En ese marco, Zelensky descartó que China pueda ser parte de estas garantías: “China no nos ayudó a detener esta guerra desde el principio. China ayudó a Rusia abriendo el mercado de drones. No necesitamos garantes que no ayuden a Ucrania ni la ayudaron cuando realmente la necesitábamos después del 24 de febrero.”
El mandatario también relató detalles de sus conversaciones recientes en Washington. Señaló que llevó un mapa con la situación en el campo de batalla, pero que utilizó el preparado por la parte estadounidense. “Tenía errores, por ejemplo, en Donetsk decían que estaba ocupado el 73%, y expliqué que era 67% o 69%”, detalló.
Durante esas conversaciones, Zelensky y Trump también abordaron la situación en Crimea: “Señalé que este es el mayor problema. Crimea es la clave para una guerra a gran escala. Cuando Crimea fue ocupada, nadie impuso sanciones severas contra Rusia que tuvieran un impacto real. Por eso es fundamental una presión real y garantías de seguridad reales”.
Finalmente, el mandatario afirmó que Ucrania probó un misil de crucero de largo alcance, llamado Flamingo, capaz de golpear objetivos a 3.000 kilómetros de distancia, y añadió que la producción a gran escala podría comenzar en febrero.
“El misil ha superado con éxito las pruebas. Actualmente, es nuestro mejor misil: puede volar 3.000 kilómetros, lo cual es significativo”, concluyó.

China expande su maquinaria de espionaje y manipulación con operaciones encubiertas sobre comunidades migrantes
El servicio de inteligencia de Nueva Zelanda advirtió este jueves que el régimen de China realiza la mayor cantidad de operaciones de injerencia extranjera en el país, superando ampliamente a cualquier otro actor estatal.
En su más reciente informe anual de riesgos, la institución subrayó que China es el poder más activo que busca manipular al gobierno, la sociedad y las instituciones democráticas neozelandesas.
La agencia de inteligencia señaló que Nueva Zelanda enfrenta actualmente “el entorno de seguridad nacional más desafiante de los últimos tiempos”, impulsado por el aumento de tensiones internacionales, polarización social y agravamiento de conflictos globales.
El informe detalla que, aunque varios países intentan ejercer presión e infiltración, “China sigue siendo el más activo”.
De acuerdo con el documento, el Departamento de Trabajo del Frente Unido del Partido Comunista Chino lleva a cabo operaciones destinadas a ampliar la influencia del régimen fuera de sus fronteras. Estas acciones incluyen prácticas de manipulación, engaño y esfuerzos para corromper organizaciones en el extranjero. La NZSIS aseguró que “las actividades del Frente Unido suelen ser engañosas, coercitivas y corruptoras, y representan riesgos para las organizaciones de Nueva Zelanda”.
El organismo de inteligencia advirtió a las empresas neozelandesas sobre los peligros directamente asociados a las leyes de seguridad nacional chinas. Bajo esa legislación, cualquier persona u organización establecida en China está obligada a colaborar con las autoridades de seguridad cuando lo requieran, lo que extiende la capacidad de control y vigilancia de Beijing sobre intereses y ciudadanos fuera de sus fronteras.
El informe identificó la región del Indopacífico como escenario central de la creciente competencia estratégica entre potencias, con China descrita como un actor “especialmente asertivo y poderoso” que busca consolidar y expandir su influencia en toda la zona. Los servicios de inteligencia advirtieron que China “ha demostrado su disposición y capacidad para ejecutar actividades de inteligencia que apuntan directamente contra los intereses nacionales de Nueva Zelanda”.
El documento indica que agentes chinos han llegado a involucrar a integrantes de la diáspora residente en Nueva Zelanda en prácticas consideradas como “represión transnacional”. Estas consisten en la cooptación de ciudadanos para recabar información sobre personas de origen chino o críticos del régimen. Estas operaciones han sido denunciadas en numerosas ocasiones por organismos de derechos humanos internacionales.
El fenómeno no es nuevo: según la NZSIS, la recopilación de datos y la intimidación abarca a comunidades migrantes y defensores de derechos humanos, afectando la libertad de expresión y la seguridad relativa de quienes escaparon del control estatal chino.
En el terreno digital, el informe alertó sobre la intensificación de ataques cibernéticos contra infraestructuras críticas, empresas tecnológicas y centros de investigación. La inteligencia neozelandesa especificó que la infiltración no se limita a agentes oficiales, sino que el régimen emplea a empresas, universidades, organizaciones de fachada y actores cibernéticos para obtener acceso a información privilegiada, políticas públicas, alianzas de seguridad e innovaciones tecnológicas. “Algunos gobiernos adoptan un enfoque de Estado total para la recolección de inteligencia, utilizando todos los recursos y redes a su alcance”, sentenció el reporte.
La NZSIS advirtió que existen “múltiples ejemplos” de intentos sistemáticos por acceder a información confidencial de organismos estatales, investigaciones científicas y posiciones en política exterior. El espionaje, según el informe, suele pasar inadvertido y es “casi seguro” que parte de la actividad encubierta aún no ha sido detectada.
El análisis de riesgos también identificó otras posibles amenazas internas, como la radicalización de personas jóvenes vulnerables en entornos digitales fragmentados y altamente polarizados, lo que mantiene la alerta sobre potenciales ataques violentos cometidos por individuos solitarios.
El informe concluye que la inseguridad y la competencia global alimentan los intentos de otros Estados por obtener acceso encubierto a recursos estratégicos y que la vigilancia reforzada es imprescindible para salvaguardar la soberanía y el funcionamiento democrático de Nueva Zelanda.
