Critics say Turkey’s verbal attacks on Israel have crossed into antisemitism

As Iran, Russia’s war with Ukraine and NATO’s defense spending dominate the organization’s summit in Ankara — one issue that has escaped the media glare is the increasingly antisemitic rhetoric coming from Turkish leaders.
As relations between Turkey and Israel continue to hit new lows, a war of words between the two nations has erupted.
In a July 2 interview with CNN Türk, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Israel has «become a burden that humanity can no longer bear,» the Jerusalem Post reported. Fidan also said that Israel is representative of «humanity’s common problems,» and asked other countries to apply pressure to the Jewish State, according to Israel National News.

In a press statement, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar called Fidan’s words «a clear call for genocide. The Jewish people know very well what happens when such words are allowed to go unchallenged. The first step on the road to genocide is dehumanization.
«This is a sentence that sounds very familiar to sentences from about 100 years ago,» Sa’ar added. «To speak about a people as a ‘problem for humanity.’ What do you do with a ‘burden that you can no longer bear?’» he asked.
Sinan Ciddi, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and director of FDD’s Turkey program, told Fox News Digital that Fidan’s statement was «some of the vilest rhetoric to come out of any statesman since the Holocaust.»

Ciddi said that escalated anti-Israel rhetoric in Turkey «goes all the way back to 2008» when President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan «began the process of ripping apart the bilateral relationship between Israel and Turkey. But after Oct. 7, it just went into overdrive,» he said. «I have never heard any Arab leader utter the words that Foreign Minister Fidan has said.»
Yet Erdogan has condemned antisemitism; the Turkish Minute reported that he told Turkish religious minority representatives at an Ankara dinner in March that «just as Islamophobia is a crime against humanity, antisemitism is also a crime, an evil that cannot be considered reasonable or legitimate.»
Yet despite his recent condemnation, he and other ministers have continued with their rhetoric against the Jewish state.
In June, Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ҁiftҁi said that the world would «witness the liberation of Jerusalem,» according to the Times of Israel.

In May 2021, the Times of Israel reported that Erdoğan called Israelis «murderers,» claiming they were ‘only satisfied by sucking their [victims’] blood.» At the time, the State Department spokesperson issued a strong condemnation of Erdoğan’s «anti-Semitic comments regarding the Jewish people,» calling them «reprehensible.»
In May 2025, Erdoğan invoked similar language, accusing Israel of being «a terror state that feeds on the blood, lives and tears of the innocent,» Israel National News reported.

Anti-Israel sentiment in Turkey has infiltrated far beyond leadership. A Pew Research poll from June found that Turkey had the highest level of anti-Israel sentiment of any polled country, with 91 percent of the population holding «very unfavorable» views on Israel, 6% holding an «unfavorable» view, and just 1% expressing any favor of Israel.
In response to questions about whether the State Department plans to respond to antisemitic statements from Turkish leadership, a spokesperson told Fox News Digital that «Türkiye is a longstanding and valued NATO Ally and we continue to engage on all aspects of our important and multi-faceted relationship.»
Ciddi said there are «numerous channels» for the State Department and Trump administration to reprimand Turkey for its unchecked hatred. «The president could obviously pull aside a Turkish counterpart and demand an apology,» he explained, while the State Department could address the comments or place Turkey on a watchlist.

As the two-day NATO summit winds down in Ankara, Ciddi said that Turkey «is going to try and overshadow anything else» and «promote itself as the sort of premiere NATO ally, so we need to watch out for Turkey’s whitewashing of its human rights record.» Ciddi warned that «We cannot safeguard our allies’ democratic norms, rights and practices if we don’t hold member states like Turkey accountable for the threats that it presents.»
The Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C. did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

La fiscalía boliviana ordenó la captura de Evo Morales por el bloqueo de carreteras durante las protestas de junio
La Fiscalía Departamental de Santa Cruz ordenó este miércoles la captura del expresidente Evo Morales, acusado de terrorismo, alzamiento armado contra la seguridad y soberanía del Estado y otros delitos por su presunta implicación en las protestas y bloqueos de carreteras registrados entre mayo y junio para exigir la renuncia del presidente Rodrigo Paz.
«Hoy el Gobierno emite una nueva orden de aprehensión en mi contra, acusándome de supuestos delitos de terrorismo y alzamiento armado», escribió Morales en X.
El expresidente acusó al gobierno de Paz de querer responsabilizarlo «de las movilizaciones sociales para ocultar el verdadero drama que vive Bolivia: una profunda crisis económica y social, fruto de un modelo que ha abandonado al pueblo y protege la corrupción».
«No nos van a intimidar. Seguiremos luchando junto al pueblo, como lo hemos hecho siempre, con la convicción de que Bolivia merece un camino distinto», agregó.
La orden, dictada por el fiscal Brayan Melgar y confirmada a EFE por una persona cercana al exmandatario, también atribuye a Morales los presuntos delitos de atentado contra la seguridad de los medios de transporte, asociación delictuosa, instigación pública a delinquir y atentado contra la seguridad de los servicios públicos.

Durante siete semanas, entre mayo y junio, campesinos de La Paz y la Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) impulsaron bloqueos de carreteras, principalmente en el occidente y el centro de Bolivia, con el respaldo de grupos afines a Morales, para exigir la renuncia del presidente Paz como «única demanda».
Los bloqueos provocaron desabastecimiento de alimentos, combustibles y oxígeno medicinal en varias ciudades, dejaron al menos 16 fallecidos, 13 de ellos por la falta de atención médica oportuna debido a los cortes de vías, y ocasionaron pérdidas económicas superiores a US$3.000 millones.
La denuncia fue presentada a principios de julio por los líderes cívicos de Santa Cruz, la región más poblada y el motor económico de Bolivia, a la que posteriormente se sumó el ministro de Gobierno (Interior), Marco Antonio Oviedo.
La acción legal también incluye al máximo dirigente de la COB, Marco Argollo, y el principal líder de los campesinos de La Paz, Vicente Salazar, quien permanece en detención preventiva desde el 6 de julio por otra investigación relacionada con estos mismos hechos.
El expresidente Morales niega haber promovido la renuncia de Paz y sostiene que las movilizaciones buscaban que el Gobierno respondiera a las demandas de los sectores movilizados. No obstante, el 24 de mayo escribió en la red social X que el mandatario tenía solo «dos caminos» ante los conflictos, «militarizar» el país o llamar a elecciones en los próximos 90 días.
Después de lograr acuerdos con sectores como la COB, Paz decretó el 20 de junio el estado de excepción para levantar los bloqueos, tras lo cual la Policía y el Ejército se desplegaron en las carreteras para retirar los obstáculos y restablecer la circulación.
Previo a esta nueva orden de captura, Morales ya tenía dos órdenes vigentes. La primera por una investigación por trata agravada de personas, ya que el exmandatario está acusado por su presunta relación con una menor de edad con la que supuestamente tuvo una hija mientras fue presidente en 2016.
Luego en mayo, un tribunal de la región sureña de Tarija declaró a Morales en rebeldía y dictó una segunda orden de captura porque no se presentó al inicio del juicio por este caso. La Policía sostiene que espera el momento adecuado para ejecutar esa orden.
Morales permanece desde octubre de 2024 en el Trópico de Cochabamba (centro), su bastión político y sindical, custodiado por centenares de sus seguidores para evitar que sea detenido.

Two prominent Democratic figures with deep ties to the Clinton and Obama administrations publicly criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani this week, with former Clinton adviser Mark Penn attacking the mayor’s proposed property tax plan while former Obama White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel recounted what he described as a private conversation in which he challenged Mamdani’s rhetoric on Israel.
The criticism is notable because it comes from longtime Democrat insiders rather than Republican opponents and focuses on two of the issues that have defined Mamdani’s rise political rise: his far-left economic agenda and his positions on Israel.
Fox News Digital reached out to Penn, Emanuel and Mamdani’s office for comment.

Penn, a longtime Democrat strategist and former pollster and adviser to President Bill Clinton, accused Mamdani of dramatically understating the scope of his proposed pied-à-terre tax after the mayor released a public database identifying property owners who could be subject to it.
In a lengthy post on X, Penn argued the city’s valuation system had swept in nearly one million property owners rather than the roughly 30,000 luxury homeowners Penn said had previously been described as the intended targets.
«The $5 million figure was a fake,» Penn wrote, arguing the city’s valuation system had improperly classified properties and would force homeowners to prove they should not be taxed.

Penn also argued the proposal could depress property values, discourage investment in New York City and potentially raise constitutional questions.
Meanwhile, Emanuel said during an appearance on the Unholy Podcast that he met privately with Mamdani for roughly 90 minutes and challenged the self-described democratic socialist mayor over his views on Israel.
Emanuel said he praised portions of Mamdani’s domestic agenda, including childcare, but criticized Mamdani’s past use of the phrase «from the river to the sea.»

«I know where there’s a line. You don’t,» Emanuel recalled telling Mamdani.
Emanuel said both calls for a «Greater Israel» and the slogan «from the river to the sea» would lead to «perpetual conflict.»
After clips of Emanuel’s remarks circulated online, Mamdani communications director Anna Bahr publicly disputed the account.
«can confirm this …. did not happen,» Bahr wrote on X in response to a post summarizing Emanuel’s remarks.
It was not immediately clear from Bahr’s post whether she was disputing that the meeting occurred or Emanuel’s characterization of the conversation.
Emanuel has also recently criticized the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) more broadly. In a post on X this week, he argued Democrats should focus on winning competitive elections rather than what he characterized as ideological distractions.

«You can be focused on winning tough races, flipping red seats blue. Or you can be focused on abolishing prisons and… the Senate and Supreme Court? You can’t do both,» Emanuel wrote. «I’m for winning this November and ending Trump’s corruption — and I’m also for putting an end to all the distractions from the DSA.»
Penn, Emanuel and Mamdani’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for additional comment before publication.

Chile revisará el listado de víctimas de la dictadura de Pinochet tras encontrar en Argentina a una mujer que figuraba como desaparecida
El gobierno del presidente José Antonio Kast en Chile anunció este miércoles que revisará el registro oficial de detenidos desaparecidos de la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet, luego de que un examen de ADN confirmara que Bernarda Vera, incluida durante décadas en ese listado como víctima de desaparición forzada, fue localizada con vida en Miramar, cerca de Mar del Plata.
El ministro de Justicia y Derechos Humanos de Chile, Fernando Rabat, informó que se analizará la nómina oficial de víctimas de la dictadura (1973-1990) para verificar que no existan errores. La medida fue anunciada tras la repercusión que generó el caso de Vera, una militante opositora al régimen que figuraba como desaparecida desde 1973.
“Vamos a determinar oficialmente que no contenga errores”, afirmó Rabat en una entrevista con Radio Infinita, al referirse al Informe de la Comisión Nacional de Verdad y Reconciliación —conocido como Informe Rettig—, elaborado durante el gobierno de Patricio Aylwin (1990-1994), que identificó a 1.469 detenidos desaparecidos durante la dictadura, entre ellos Vera. El caso de Bernarda Vera
El caso salió a la luz en septiembre de 2025, cuando medios chilenos informaron que Vera —militante del extinto Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR), hoy de 80 años— había sido localizada en Miramar, una ciudad ubicada a unos 45 kilómetros de Mar del Plata.
La búsqueda estuvo a cargo de funcionarios del Plan Nacional de Búsqueda, un programa estatal creado para esclarecer las circunstancias de desaparición y determinar el destino de las víctimas que aún permanecen sin paradero conocido.

Según el Informe Rettig, Vera fue detenida en octubre de 1973, cuando tenía 27 años, luego de participar en el asalto a un retén policial en Neltume, una zona cordillerana ubicada a unos 850 kilómetros de Santiago y cercana a la frontera con Argentina. Allí, el MIR intentó establecer un foco guerrillero para resistir a la dictadura instaurada tras el golpe de Estado contra Salvador Allende.
De acuerdo con versiones no oficiales, Vera —quien utilizaba el alias clandestino “Anita” y tenía una hija de cinco años al momento de su desaparición— permaneció en la zona montañosa hasta diciembre de 1973 y luego logró escapar hacia Argentina. Más tarde viajó a Suecia y regresó a Sudamérica a fines de la década de 1990.
Su familia había perdido contacto con ella en los días previos al golpe del 11 de septiembre de 1973. Tiempo después, fue informada de que Vera había sido condenada a muerte en rebeldía en un proceso judicial vinculado al ataque al retén de Neltume.
La revisión de la pensión familiar
Rabat indicó que el caso será notificado al Consejo de Defensa del Estado para que “adopte las decisiones que corresponden” respecto de la pensión que la familia de Vera recibió durante años en el marco de la ley de reparación. “No quiero calificar la buena o mala fe de quienes recibieron la pensión porque no me corresponde. Lo que estoy señalando es que no debió haberse pagado esa pensión”, afirmó el ministro.

El nombramiento de Rabat generó polémica en su momento, ya que a principios de los años 2000 integró el equipo jurídico que defendió a Pinochet en el juicio por la Operación Colombo y en el Caso Riggs.
El ministro sostuvo que su cartera “fortalecerá” el Plan Nacional de Búsqueda y sumará funcionarios para revisar el listado de detenidos desaparecidos, pese a los recortes ordenados por el presidente Kast. El programa fue lanzado en 2023 por el gobierno del entonces presidente Gabriel Boric (2022-2026) y es considerado una de las principales políticas de memoria histórica impulsadas desde el fin de la dictadura, al ser la primera vez que el Estado chileno lidera la búsqueda de las más de mil víctimas que aún permanecen desaparecidas.
El régimen de Pinochet se extendió durante diecisiete años y dejó, según cifras oficiales, más de 40.000 víctimas entre ejecutados, detenidos desaparecidos, presos políticos y torturados. Más de 3.200 opositores murieron a manos de agentes del Estado.
