Nueva estrategia de seguridad en Honduras enfocará operativos en los municipios más violentos
La Secretaría de Seguridad de Honduras anunció que concentrará sus estrategias contra la criminalidad en unos 30 municipios con mayor incidencia de violencia. Según informó el ministro de Seguridad, Gerzón Velásquez, esos territorios reúnen una parte de los delitos violentos del país y serán el foco de los operativos y labores de inteligencia.
Velásquez explicó que Honduras tiene 298 municipios, pero que cerca del 10% de ellos registra los niveles más altos de violencia criminal. Bajo esa premisa, las acciones de seguridad se enfocarán en los municipios considerados prioritarios para reducir los índices delictivos.
“La estrategia busca concentrar recursos humanos, operativos y tecnológicos en las zonas donde se presenta la mayor cantidad de hechos violentos”, señaló Velásquez sobre el nuevo plan de intervención.
Las autoridades sostienen que el modelo responde a estudios y análisis sobre el comportamiento de la criminalidad en el país, con el fin de dirigir con más eficiencia los recursos disponibles.
De acuerdo con el planteamiento oficial, la identificación de los territorios con mayores niveles de violencia permitirá desarrollar acciones específicas para enfrentar fenómenos como homicidios, extorsión, narcotráfico, tráfico de armas y otras actividades vinculadas al crimen organizado.
La intención es fortalecer la presencia policial y las labores de inteligencia en las zonas de mayor riesgo, con el objetivo de desarticular estructuras criminales y prevenir nuevos hechos delictivos.
El ministro Velásquez también informó que la estrategia contempla cooperación internacional como parte de los lineamientos establecidos en el programa denominado Escudo de las Américas.
Según explicó, existe un proceso de coordinación y negociación entre la Secretaría de Defensa de Honduras y organismos de defensa de Estados Unidos para fortalecer capacidades operativas y desarrollar acciones conjuntas frente a amenazas relacionadas con el crimen organizado.
Aunque no se detallaron las medidas específicas que se implementarán dentro de esa cooperación, las autoridades indicaron que el objetivo es mejorar las capacidades institucionales para intervenir en los territorios más afectados por la violencia.
La colaboración internacional en materia de seguridad se ha convertido en una herramienta utilizada por diversos países de la región para combatir estructuras criminales que operan más allá de las fronteras nacionales y participan en actividades ilícitas como tráfico de drogas, trata de personas, lavado de activos y extorsión.
Uno de los ejes centrales de la estrategia será el combate a las redes dedicadas al cobro de extorsiones, un delito que durante años ha afectado a comerciantes, emprendedores, transportistas y ciudadanos en distintas zonas del país.
Velásquez adijo que las acciones impulsadas por la Secretaría de Seguridad buscan perseguir a las estructuras responsables de este delito y responder a las demandas de la población en materia de seguridad.
La extorsión continúa siendo una de las principales amenazas para diversos sectores económicos, especialmente para el transporte público, cuyos operadores han denunciado de manera constante presiones y amenazas por parte de grupos criminales.
Como parte de estas acciones, la Policía Nacional mantiene bajo supervisión más de una decena de puntos de taxis en el Distrito Central considerados vulnerables a actividades de extorsión.
El comisario Edgardo Barahona informó que actualmente son 14 puntos de taxis los que están siendo intervenidos mediante patrullajes preventivos, monitoreo permanente y acercamientos con dirigentes del sector transporte.
De acuerdo con Barahona, las acciones son ejecutadas por distintas direcciones policiales en coordinación con la recientemente creada División Antiextorsión y Asociaciones Terroristas, una unidad especializada en la investigación y persecución de organizaciones vinculadas a estos delitos.
El comisario explicó que los agentes mantienen comunicación constante con representantes de los puntos de taxis para identificar amenazas, detectar patrones delictivos y prevenir que más conductores o propietarios sean víctimas de extorsión.
“El objetivo es anticiparse a los hechos delictivos y brindar acompañamiento a quienes podrían estar expuestos a este tipo de amenazas”, indicó.
Según informó Barahona, algunos casos han revelado la presunta participación de personas vinculadas directamente a las unidades de transporte, incluidos empleados y familiares de propietarios.
Las autoridades consideran que este tipo de hallazgos evidencia la necesidad de fortalecer los controles internos y la coordinación entre operadores del transporte y organismos de seguridad.
Las autoridades sostienen que la focalización de recursos en los municipios más violentos permitirá obtener mejores resultados en el corto y mediano plazo, especialmente en la lucha contra estructuras criminales que operan de manera organizada.

The Trump administration has selected a veteran Border Patrol official with more than 26 years of service to lead the agency following the resignation of former Chief Mike Banks.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced Monday that Rosario «Pete» Vasquez will serve as the next chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, overseeing nearly 20,000 agents and professional staff operating across the country.
Vasquez most recently led the Border Patrol’s Blaine Sector in Washington state, overseeing operations along the U.S.-Canada border and coordinating with federal, state, local, tribal and international partners.
CBP Commissioner Rodney S. Scott praised the appointment, calling Vasquez «a Border Patrol agent’s agent.»

Vasquez succeeds former Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks, who announced his retirement in May after leading the agency during President Donald Trump’s second administration.
Banks told Fox News last month that he was stepping down after helping oversee what he described as a dramatic turnaround in border security.

As chief, Vasquez will be responsible for leading Border Patrol operations across nearly 7,000 miles of international land borders and approximately 2,000 miles of coastal waters.
According to CBP, Vasquez has served in a variety of operational and leadership roles throughout his career, including assignments along the southwest and northern borders, at CBP headquarters and in international postings.

His résumé includes service with the Border Patrol’s Search, Trauma, and Rescue Unit, the agency’s Special Operations Group and CBP’s Office of Anti-Terrorism. He also served as director of the Alliance to Combat Transnational Threats, assistant attaché for CBP in Canada and acting executive director within CBP’s Office of Trade.
The appointment comes as Border Patrol officials continue focusing on efforts to combat transnational criminal organizations, disrupt human smuggling and narcotics trafficking networks and strengthen border security operations.

José Antonio Kast traza una hoja de ruta para los próximos 4 años en Chile con ejes en la seguridad y el ajuste del Estado: «Va a haber dolor»
El presidente chileno José Antonio Kast presentó este lunes ante el Congreso la primera cuenta pública de su gestión en la que hizo una balance sobre los primeros pasos de su gobierno y detalló la hoja de ruta para los próximos cuatro años.
Kast asumió la presidencia el 11 de marzo —tras imponerse con casi un 60% de los votos en las elecciones del año pasado — con la promesa de implementar un “gobierno de emergencia” para resolver los principales problemas.
En una ceremonia en la sede del Congreso en la costera ciudad de Valparaíso, el mandatario ultraconservador subrayó que la prioridad será devolver el “rumbo” al país a través del refuerzo de la seguridad, de reformas económicas y la recuperación del empleo.
Para eso, pidió la cooperación de todos los sectores políticos con el fin de avanzar en las áreas de la seguridad, el empleo, la educación, la salud y la vivienda.
Kast llegó al poder con un discurso centrado en el combate al crimen organizado y la delincuencia, la recuperación económica y solventar la compleja situación migratoria en el país, donde se calcula que viven más de 300.000 personas indocumentadas.
En su mensaje, anunció la puesta en marcha del plan Retorno que será implementado en los próximos días para “acelerar” la salida de inmigrantes ilegales y “desincentivar su permanencia en el país”, aunque no detalló medidas concretas para ello.
“Lo haremos sin perder de vista la dimensión humana de este drama”, dijo. «Entendemos que detrás de la migración irregular hay también familias engañadas, niños usados como pasaporte y personas explotadas por el crimen organizado transnacional».
En ese marco, recordó la reciente cumbre internacional encabezada por Chile, donde cinco países de la región se comprometieron a crear estrategias conjuntas para un mayor control fronterizo.
En cuanto a la seguridad, la mayor preocupación de los chilenos, anunció que mejorará las remuneraciones de las policías y otras fuerzas de seguridad y creará grupos especializados para el combate de secuestros y sicariato, ciberdelitos, crimen organizado o finanzas criminales.
Anticipó, además, la entrada en vigor de un registro de vándalos e incivilidades que tendrá como finalidad suspender los beneficios sociales de cualquier persona que cometa actos de violencia o vandalismo. También el lanzamiento de un plan para recuperar los barrios considerados “críticos”.
“La seguridad no es algo que cambie de un día para otro. Pero las cifras muestran que se empiezan a consolidar mejores resultados”, destacó.
Kast igualmente detalló medidas económicas con las que confía en “ordenar las finanzas públicas», aunque reconoció que algunas de ellas podrían generar molestias. “Va a haber dolor, aquí no se puede prometer milagros”, expresó.
El gobernante planteó un ajuste del aparato estatal y una reducción del gasto administrativo a través del proyecto de Reconstrucción Nacional y Desarrollo Económico y Social —considerado el buque insignia de su administración para crecer y que actualmente se encuentra en discusión en el Congreso.
Kast apuntó que es necesario acelerar la inversión, destrabar permisos y reducir el gasto fiscal, aunque aseguró que no habrá recortes de beneficios sociales.
Otro de los ejes centrales es recuperar el empleo. La tasa de desempleo alcanzó la semana pasada su nivel más alto en los últimos cinco años tras rebasar el umbral del 9%.
“Son más de 940.000 personas las que buscan trabajo y no lo encuentran. Es una de cada cuatro personas que trabaja en la informalidad, sin contrato y sin una red que la sostenga”, dijo. «Son 40 meses seguidos con el desempleo sobre el 8%».
Por eso, el mandatario anunció una serie de proyectos que buscan la modernización de las empresas y la reducción de la burocracia, sobre todo en el sector minero. “El Estado tiene que ser un aliado, no un obstáculo”.
También manifestó su intención de reformar la Ley indígena buscando eliminar las restricciones al uso de tierras indígenas y la prohibición de sus arriendos a fin de alcanzar “una política indígena coherente”.
Finalmente, anunció que propondrá una estructura ministerial más “racional” para un Estado “más moderno», reduciendo el número de carteras, entre otras medidas. “No le podemos pedir austeridad y eficiencia a las familias chilenas si el propio Estado no es capaz de ordenarse a sí mismo”.

Bipartisan lawmakers pressed President Donald Trump to make good on this promise back in March. This release is the second group of material publicized by the government.

The baffled astronauts tried to unravel a cosmic conundrum when they spotted weird beams of light bouncing around their spacecraft more than half a century ago.

These were clips of audiotape the government recently dumped. Tales from tape never heard before about what some of humankind’s first space explorers experienced and observed when they slipped the surly bonds of Earth.
The president pledged to publicize as much unexplained material as possible.

It’s a document dump that is out of this world. But it’s hard to quantify and understand exactly what it all means. Let alone if it provides «evidence,» as Asimov would say, «which explains something, which to some, could be «ridiculous.»
No one knows exactly what these videos and documents reveal. Especially when it comes to demonstrating that UFOs exist or that there are visitors to Earth from another planet.
But that doesn’t mean that the information isn’t remarkable.

One lawmaker who has long called for UAP transparency isn’t starstruck at the releases. Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., was skeptical before the Pentagon put out the latest tranche of information.
«The stuff they’re dropping right now is just Deep State classic,» said Burchett. «They won’t show us some of the stuff that we’ve seen. They’re going to show stuff that is easily identifiable.»
But this information is far from easy to identify, quantify or even understand. The government can explain some weird sightings. At a 2022 House hearing on UAP, the Pentagon demonstrated how light refracting through certain military visual aids created an optical illusion. But the stories are legion about what can’t be explained or defined. The difference now is that Congress mandated the Pentagon create an office to document and study UAP.
And the government either can’t – or doesn’t want to explain a lot of what’s out there.
«We have been stonewalled. We have been blocked. We have had witnesses intimidated,» said Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., on Fox. She asserted that former workers at the Pentagon UAP office were even «attacking» some witnesses and whistleblowers who have come forward.

But here’s the other challenge: understanding exactly what documents and videos the government has in its possession.
«This is not an easy thing to do. There’s not one huge repository of all of these documents and videos and photos,» said Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., on Fox.
Burlison is now suggesting the government «reverse engineer» what they find at certain «crash locations» or where people have discovered weird physical material here on terra firma.
«The White House and the DNI (Director of National Intelligence) is now looking at places to go investigate,» said Burlison on Fox.

So people sift through the files in a quest to unearth evidence that is definitely un-Earth. But more information often yields more questions. And that’s to say nothing of the other-worldly expectations set the pending release of files and information. The bar is high. And while the release of information is intriguing, no one quite knows what it all means.
If you wanted proof of ET or revelations of a government conspiracy, you’re better off watching an old VHS tape.
We just don’t know what these files mean. And, in many cases, even are.
The document dump isn’t a nothing-burger. But a something-burger. Still, that doesn’t sate the appetite for those who are on a quest for the truth. And it likely just angers those who are convinced the government has something to hide.

On Fox, Burlison said he «personally» experienced «frustration» about declassifying information. But Burlison cautioned the Trump Administration against holding material back.
«I’ve seen those kind of videos,» said Burlison. «I’m telling the administration through you at this moment that if they don’t release those, then I have the capabilities of getting those videos released.»
In the meantime, people are sorting through the recently released material, trying to decode it.
«There’s a whole bunch of big ones out my window now. It’s just bright. Looks like the Fourth of July out around the window,» exclaimed one astronaut in a just released soundbite.
So we’re accumulating a lot of «evidence» and «observation.» Kind of what Isaac Asimov was looking for. But signs of life from other worlds? Not necessarily. This is why the Pentagon says there’s no evidence that the videos reveal something from outer space. But the military concedes that it can’t explain everything.

Figuring out what it means is not the final frontier. But the next frontier.
