Democratic Senate candidates James Talarico and Jon Ossoff are facing scrutiny over significant donations from Reid Hoffman, a billionaire mega-investor with former associations to Jeffrey Epstein, after both accused Republicans of representing the billionaire «Epstein class» over working Americans.
Both Talarico, running in Texas, and Ossoff, running in Georgia, have repeatedly criticized billionaires’ involvement in politics and charged Republicans with being beholden to the «Epstein class» instead of the American people.
Meanwhile, Hoffman, a co-founder of LinkedIn who has previously admitted to spending a night on Epstein’s Caribbean island, has heavily invested in both campaigns. In the Texas Senate race, Hoffman has donated a whopping $11.5 million to the Talarico-aligned super political action committee (PAC), Lone Star Rising, according to the Texas Tribune. The outlet said the billionaire investor sunk $10 million to the PAC in June alone, accounting for nearly 80% of the group’s second-quarter fundraising. In Georgia, Hoffman donated the maximum legal amount, $7,000, to Ossoff’s campaign for the 2025-2026 cycle.
«Democrats like Jon Ossoff and James Talarico vilify corporate billionaires in one breath and accept their cash in the next,» a GOP operative remarked to Fox News Digital, adding, «They’re fueling the same ‘money in politics’ gravy train they claim to oppose.»

Hoffman has not been charged with any wrongdoing related to his previous association with Epstein.
Their first known meeting was on July 19, 2013, almost five years after he pled guilty in Florida to state charges of soliciting prostitution and procuring a minor for prostitution. According to Massachusetts Institute of Technology records, Hoffman, then a member of the university’s Media Lab Advisory Council, met with Epstein along with other faculty members on campus.
The next year, Hoffman visited Epstein’s private island, Little Saint James, and stayed overnight, the Wall Street Journal reported. Business Insider reported that in a recent podcast appearance Hoffman admitted to staying one night at Epstein’s island as part of an MIT fundraising trip. Regarding his visit, he quipped, «Note to self: Google before going.»
The Wall Street Journal reported that later in 2014, Hoffman sent Epstein ice cream, writing that it was for him or «for the girls.»

The two continued to maintain contact in the years that followed, with Hoffman and Epstein exchanging emails and Skype calls, according to the Wall Street Journal. Axios reported in 2019 that Hoffman hosted a dinner in 2015 at which Epstein was present along with other notable technology leaders, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Peter Thiel.
The outlet reported that Hoffman apologized for his association with Epstein, saying that «by agreeing to participate in any fundraising activity where Epstein was present, I helped to repair his reputation and perpetuate injustice. For this, I am deeply regretful.»
Meanwhile, Talarico has repeatedly criticized Republicans using the «Epstein class» line. In one interview, he asserted, «The Epstein Class has no place in Texas.»
On the campaign trail, Forbes reported Talarico charging that «the only minority destroying America is the billionaires.» His campaign website asserts that «billionaire mega-donors aren’t just buying yachts and jets — they’re buying power, and they’re using that power to rig our political system.»
Fox News Digital reached out to Lone Star Rising, which has spent millions on pro-Talarico advertising, for comment on Hoffman’s $11.5 million in donations.
JT Ennis, a spokesperson for Talarico’s campaign, remarked to Fox News Digital that «our campaign has no control over contributions to any super PAC,» adding, «federal law prohibits coordination between political campaigns and outside entities.»
Ennis said that «anyone contributing to this movement is supporting a campaign that will tax billionaires more and limit their outsized political influence.»
Meanwhile, he ripped into Talarico’s Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, saying, «The only way to get Big Money out of our politics is to reject politicians like Ken Paxton,» who he accused of «want[ing] corporations and billionaires to decide our elections, not Texans.»

«While Ken Paxton works to enrich himself and his donors, James will remain the only candidate in this race fighting to ban super PACs, ban corporate PACs, ban congressional stock trading, and tax billionaires so we can fix this broken, corrupt political system,» said Ennis.
Fox News Digital reached out to Paxton’s campaign for comment.
Fox News Digital also reached out to the campaign for Ossoff, who criticized the Trump administration in a news statement earlier this year for having the «wealthiest Cabinet ever.»

Ossoff remarked in the statement, «We were told that MAGA was for working-class Americans. But this is a government of, by, and for the ultra-rich … this is the Epstein class, ruling our country. They are the elites they pretend to hate.»
On the campaign trail Ossoff has railed against American politics for «running on secret money, corporate money, billionaire money» and accused the Trump administration of taking «American corruption to spectacular new heights.»

Besides Talarico and Ossoff, Hoffman is also known to have donated the maximum legal amount, $7,000, to the re-election campaign for Sen. Cory Booker, a prominent national Democrat from New Jersey.

Zelensky busca reactivar las negociaciones con Rusia: habló con los enviados de Trump antes del encuentro entre Rubio y Lavrov
El presidente de Ucrania, Volodimir Zelensky, mantuvo este miércoles una conversación con los enviados especiales del presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff y Jared Kushner, con el objetivo de coordinar esfuerzos para reactivar la vía diplomática hacia un eventual acuerdo de paz. El contacto se produjo un día antes del encuentro previsto entre el secretario de Estado estadounidense, Marco Rubio, y el ministro de Asuntos Exteriores de Rusia, Serguéi Lavrov, que tendrá lugar este jueves en Manila, en el marco de la cumbre de la Asociación de Naciones del Sudeste Asiático (ASEAN).
La llamada se produce en un momento en que las negociaciones entre Kiev y Moscú permanecen estancadas y aún no existe una fecha para retomar los contactos directos entre ambas partes, interrumpidos tras el recrudecimiento de la crisis en Medio Oriente por la guerra entre Israel e Irán.
Zelensky informó del diálogo a través de sus redes sociales y calificó la conversación como un paso relevante dentro de los esfuerzos diplomáticos que impulsa Ucrania junto con Washington.
“Acabo de hablar con los representantes del presidente Trump, Steve Witkoff y Jared Kushner. Una buena conversación sobre cómo activar la diplomacia y acercar más la paz”, escribió el mandatario ucraniano.
El presidente agregó que la coordinación entre ambas delegaciones continúa de forma permanente.
“Nuestros equipos mantienen un contacto cercano”, afirmó.
Zelensky insistió en que el objetivo de su gobierno sigue siendo alcanzar un acuerdo que garantice la seguridad del país.
“Necesitamos la paz, una paz digna, que Ucrania lleva mucho tiempo anhelando”, señaló. También agradeció a Witkoff y Kushner por el “esfuerzo personal” que, según indicó, han realizado para impulsar ese proceso, así como al presidente Trump y al pueblo estadounidense por su “apoyo inquebrantable”.
La conversación tuvo lugar pocas horas antes de la reunión que sostendrán Rubio y Lavrov al margen de la cumbre de la ASEAN en la capital filipina. El encuentro será uno de los contactos diplomáticos de mayor nivel entre Washington y Moscú desde que la nueva administración estadounidense intensificó sus gestiones para intentar destrabar el conflicto iniciado con la invasión rusa de Ucrania en febrero de 2022.
Lavrov confirmó el miércoles que participará en la reunión con Rubio y afirmó que el intercambio permitirá abordar directamente las diferencias existentes entre ambos gobiernos.
“En cualquier caso, esta reunión será útil. Es preferible hacer preguntas y obtener respuestas”, declaró el canciller ruso al anunciar el encuentro.
Uno de los asuntos que previsiblemente ocupará buena parte de la conversación será el llamado “espíritu de Anchorage”, una referencia utilizada por Moscú para describir los entendimientos alcanzados durante la reunión celebrada en agosto de 2025 entre Trump y el presidente ruso, Vladimir Putin, en Alaska.
El gobierno ruso sostiene que en ese encuentro Putin aceptó un plan estadounidense de 27 puntos que había sido entregado previamente por Steve Witkoff durante una visita a Moscú. Entre las propuestas figuraba congelar las líneas actuales del frente y mantener bajo control ruso parte de la región del Donbás.
Sin embargo, Washington ha rechazado que aquel encuentro produjera compromisos definitivos. Rubio sostuvo recientemente que nunca existió un acuerdo vinculante y argumentó que, de haber sido así, la guerra habría terminado hace tiempo.
Las declaraciones del secretario de Estado llevaron a Lavrov a reclamar públicamente que Estados Unidos aclarara cuál es su posición sobre los compromisos discutidos durante aquella cumbre.
Mientras se desarrollan esos contactos diplomáticos, Ucrania continúa reforzando la coordinación con Washington en otros ámbitos.
Horas antes de conversar con Witkoff y Kushner, Zelensky informó que se reunió con el embajador estadounidense ante la OTAN, Matthew Whitaker, para revisar distintos proyectos de cooperación bilateral.
Según explicó el mandatario, ambos analizaron la decisión del presidente Trump de autorizar a Ucrania a fabricar misiles Patriot bajo licencia, además del avance de un acuerdo destinado a ampliar la cooperación en materia de drones.
“Nuestros equipos están trabajando actualmente. Esto tiene un gran potencial y esperamos poder cerrarlo pronto”, afirmó Zelensky al referirse a ese proyecto conjunto.
La conversación con los enviados de Trump y la reunión prevista entre Rubio y Lavrov forman parte de una nueva ronda de contactos diplomáticos impulsados por Washington para intentar reactivar las negociaciones entre Ucrania y Rusia, en un contexto marcado por la ausencia de conversaciones directas entre las partes y por la continuidad de los combates en el frente.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, have turned to Hunter Biden’s former attorney as federal investigators scrutinize financial and nonprofit matters involving the first partner and a separate federal fraud case has ensnared the governor’s former chief of staff.
The hiring of prominent Washington defense lawyer Abbe Lowell, whose recent clients have included high-profile figures who have clashed with Trump, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and former President Joe Biden’s son, comes as Newsom dismisses the scrutiny as a politically motivated «fishing expedition» aimed at one of President Donald Trump’s most visible Democratic opponents.
In a news conference Tuesday, the California governor confirmed he had obtained Lowell’s counsel.

Lowell, a veteran white-collar defense attorney who served as House Democrats’ chief minority counsel during former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, has represented a bipartisan roster of political heavyweights over his decades-long career.
His past clients include Hunter Biden, Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner, former Democratic Sens. Bob Menendez and John Edwards and an employee of longtime Trump ally Tom Barrack.
More recently, Lowell has represented several prominent figures who say they have been targeted by the Trump administration, including Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, former Department of Homeland Security official Miles Taylor and whistleblower attorney Mark Zaid.
Lowell did not respond to Fox News Digital’s questions in time for publication.

At least two criminal investigations connected to Newsom’s family and political orbit have been handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California, according to CalMatters. Citing a Justice Department source familiar with the matter, the outlet reported that both originated with whistleblowers and people in Sacramento.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEWSOM-LINKED CHARITIES REPORTEDLY CAUGHT IN DOJ’S SIGHTS
One inquiry reportedly involves tax-related scrutiny involving Jennifer Siebel Newsom and financial arrangements connected to her nonprofit and filmmaking work. The other centered on former Newsom chief of staff Dana Williamson, who later pleaded guilty in a separate federal fraud case that prosecutors say grew out of an investigation launched during the Biden administration.

The Los Angeles Times reported that nonprofits and a for-profit production company founded by Siebel Newsom are at the center of the federal scrutiny into her charity and business finances. The Justice Department and FBI have not commented publicly on the investigation, according to the Times. The Justice Department did not respond to Fox News Digital’s questions in time for publication.
Among the organizations identified by the Times is the Representation Project, a nonprofit that federal tax records show has paid Siebel Newsom more than $1.9 million in compensation. The nonprofit also awarded roughly $2.2 million in contracts to Girls Club Entertainment, a for-profit production company separately owned by Siebel Newsom.

The Times also identified the California Partners Project, another nonprofit founded by Siebel Newsom. State disclosures reviewed by the outlet show it has received nearly $5.1 million in «behested payments» reported by the governor since 2020. Behested payments are donations made at an elected official’s request for charitable, legislative or governmental purposes rather than contributions to the official’s political campaign.
Newsom and his wife have maintained that the current Justice Department is weaponizing investigations in retaliation for the pair’s criticism of Trump and his national political profile. However, in an interview last week with MS NOW, Siebel Newsom was asked about the origin of the probes and said she did not know the details.

Newsom’s office did not respond to Fox News Digital’s questions about whether he has been contacted by any federal investigators in relation to these cases or any others. However, Newsom did tell KCRA-3 in California during a news conference Tuesday he believes it is just a matter of time until he does.

«It’s inevitable, come on,» Newsom said when asked about any contact from federal investigators. «Look at who we’re dealing with.»

Finalmente, el alcalde de Nueva York, Zohran Mamdani, dijo que la ciudad no podría ejecutar una orden de arresto emitida por la Corte Penal Internacional (CPI) contra el primer ministro israelí Benjamin Netanyahu, pero instó al gobierno federal a hacerlo.
«Mi administración ha analizado todas las vías disponibles en virtud de la legislación aplicable para determinar si la ciudad de Nueva York podría ejecutar la orden de aprehensión de la Corte Penal Internacional en caso de que Benjamin Netanyahu viniera aquí. Es evidente que no contamos con la autoridad legal independiente para hacer cumplir esta orden«, señaló Mamdani, en un video publicado el martes por la noche en sus redes sociales.
En cambio, el alcalde de Nueva York instó al gobierno de Donald Trump a cumplir con la orden, cuando el líder israelí viaje a la ciudad para la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas, el próximo 8 de septiembre. «El gobierno federal sí tiene (autoridad legal), y los insto a que se unan a la CPI y ejecuten esta orden de aprehensión», afirmó.
Por otra parte, aclaró que «Netanyahu no es bienvenido en la ciudad de Nueva York, ni tampoco ningún otro criminal de guerra que se encuentre prófugo».
Mamdani acusó al líder israelí de ser «el artífice de un horrible genocidio contra el pueblo palestino» y lo responsabilizó por «la muerte de más de 73.000 personas y de la mutilación de decenas de miles de niños».
Además, le endilgó «los ataques contra hospitales neonatales y centros de atención materna, negando a los recién nacidos incluso la oportunidad de vivir», y de «dejar morir de hambre» a «innumerables personas» al «impedir que les llegaran alimentos y ayuda humanitaria». También lo acusó del «asesinato a tiros de cientos de trabajadores humanitarios y periodistas».
«Cualquiera que tenga ojos, corazón y conciencia debería reconocer la devastación que él ha causado y comprender que debe comparecer ante un tribunal», señaló, en tanto agregó: «Estoy de acuerdo con la CPI en que Benjamin Netanyahu debe ser detenido y juzgado por sus crímenes«.
Pero Trump terminó la polémica el lunes al escribir en su cuenta de Truth Social que «Benjamin Netanyahu no será detenido, de ninguna manera, bajo ningún concepto, mientras se encuentre en los Estados Unidos de América».
El presidente estadounidense no sólo se ha negado repetidamente a arrestar a Netanyahu -de hecho, la última visita del israelí a los Estados Unidos fue en febrero-; también ha decretado sanciones contra la CPI, incluyendo a Karim Khan, el ex fiscal de la CPI que ordenó la detención del líder israelí y varios de sus funcionarios.
En 2024, la CPI, con sede en La Haya, acusó a Netanyahu y a varios de sus funcionarios de realizar crímenes de guerra y crímenes de lesa humanidad relacionados con la ofensiva de Israel en Gaza, tras el ataque del 7 de octubre de 2023, perpetrado por Hamás.
La CPI consideró que Netanyahu es «presuntamente responsable de los crímenes de guerra consistentes en el uso del hambre como método de guerra y en dirigir intencionalmente un ataque contra la población civil; y de los crímenes de lesa humanidad consistentes en asesinato, persecución y otros actos inhumanos, desde al menos el 8 de octubre de 2023 hasta, como mínimo, el 20 de mayo de 2024″.
La semana pasada, Mamdani le había dicho al New York Times que él y el departamento legal de la ciudad estaban discutiendo el posible arresto de Netanyahu si viaja a la ciudad de Nueva York para la Asamblea General de la ONU.
«Creo que el primer ministro Netanyahu pertenece a La Haya», le dijo al NYT. «Sea lo que sea que la ley me permita hacer en la ciudad de Nueva York, eso haremos», afirmó en la entrevista.
De hecho, Mamdani basó parte de su campaña para la alcaldía en que trataría de ordenar a la policía de la ciudad que arrestara a Netanyahu en virtud de la orden de la CPI.
La CPI no tiene una fuerza policial propia que ejecute las órdenes de detención y depende, para ello, del compromiso con la ley de los Estados. Países clave como Estados Unidos, China y Rusia no son miembros de la Corte, no reconocen su jurisdicción, ni la respaldan cuando se trata de casos que les afectan a ellos o sus aliados.
