When a bullet grazed President Donald Trump’s ear, Congress immediately launched investigations into how a gunman was able to pull the trigger. Two attempts later, and lawmakers are now less interested in taking swift action.
There have been few calls to hold hearings or launch probes into the latest incident as conspiracies swirl online after the third alleged assassination attempt over the weekend at the White House Correspondent’s Association Dinner.
«I just happen to think it’s — for the most part, it’s a waste of time,» Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., told Fox News Digital. «Security held. The guy didn’t get through. Wasn’t even close.»

Top lawmakers on the House Oversight and Senate Judiciary committees met with Secret Service Director Sean Curran this week for briefings, but have so far stopped short of calling for hearings or full-scale investigations.
Two years ago, when a gunman tried and failed to assassinate Trump on the campaign trail in Butler, Pennsylvania, two major bipartisan investigations were launched to address failures by the Secret Service and other agencies and find out how a gunman got so close to ending Trump’s life.
And in the case of Ryan Routh, who was caught with a rifle in another attempt against Trump while he was golfing at his club in Florida just months after the shooting at Butler, lawmakers folded that investigation in with their ongoing inquiry into the first attack.
Following the weekend shooting at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner, where a gunman was foiled while attempting to enter a packed ballroom where Trump, his Cabinet, Vice President JD Vance and several journalists sat, lawmakers aren’t rushing to figure out what happened this time.
Trump’s appearance on Saturday marks the first time he decided to go to the dinner while serving as president — he has been twice in the past. He also promised at a press conference after the dinner was canceled to reschedule the event within the next 30 days.
The alleged shooter, Cole Allen, bolted past a security check point with a rifle, handgun and several knives on his person. But the Secret Service was able to neutralize the suspect before he ever entered the ballroom where Trump was sitting.
Still, some Republicans are demanding that the incident be given a thorough review, or at least a hearing.

«I mean, this is the third assassination attempt on the life of the president in two years,» Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., told Fox News Digital. «You know, we need to look carefully at all of the procedures and protocols.»
Hawley wants Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chair Rand Paul, R-Ky., to hold a hearing on presidential security in the aftermath of the shooting.
The very same committee led an investigation into the Butler attempt and determined that the shooting was preventable and caused by a series of failures in security protocol, planning and funding, among several others.
The bipartisan investigation landed on more than 40 recommendations for actions that should be taken in the future to prevent a repeat.
Paul didn’t appear ready to rush into a hearing on the matter. He told Fox News Digital that lawmakers investigated that attempt for over a year and believed that the probe «arrived at several bits of wisdom, insight, and advice.»
«I think there will be items from this that need to be reviewed and made better,» Paul said. «We’re gonna get a briefing from the Secret Service on what to learn from this attempt, and we’ll decide after that if we need to do anything further. But absolutely, the Secret Service needs to investigate and see what they can do to make the president safer.»

Like Hawley, Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., has several questions about how a gunman was able to blow past security measures and fears what could come next.
«When is it going to be a suicide bomber? When is it going to be an army of people behind the one person that went in and blow up the whole building? Look, that’s where we are, and I have questions about the three assassination attempts,» Norman told Fox News Digital.

Meanwhile, there is a growing wave of skepticism online about whether the latest attempt on Trump’s life was even real. Many users are claiming that the incident was «staged.»

Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, told Fox News Digital that «some of these people need… serious help.»
Moreno was comfortable that White House chief of staff Susie Wiles would lead a «necessary and important conversation» about the correspondents’ dinner incident, but rebuked any attempt by Democrats to push for answers.
«If there’s a Democrat having that conversation, you can shut the f— up given that they won’t fund [the Department of Homeland Security],» Moreno said.

Abdul El-Sayed, a Democrat running for Senate in Michigan, has stated that «we need to be investing» in «any and all efforts to get people out of jails and prisons,» in a recording reviewed by Fox News Digital.
El-Sayed joined a convicted murderer and a registered sex offender in September 2020 to speak at a webinar hosted by the University of Michigan’s Carceral State Project where he argued that the incarceration of criminals was a sign that «society has failed to deal with real problems» and, to address this, criminals should be set free.
While part of El-Sayed’s argument hinged on the notion that overcrowded prisons posed a public health risk during the COVID-19 pandemic, he endorsed continuing to let people out of correctional facilities even after the pandemic passed. His comments came at the height of the defund the police movement, when violent crime spiked and Democratic-led cities made moves to cut their police forces.
El-Sayed, who has aligned himself with independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, is a leading candidate in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary. On the campaign trail, he has promised to be critical of Israel and expand welfare programs if elected.

«There are so many ways that society has failed to deal with real problems and has used policing and jails as a stopgap for all of these failures,» El-Sayed told the panel. «We’ve got policies … which basically force people into jail because they’re poor … we’ve got to think about all of them systematically but any and all efforts to get people out of jails and prisons and to keep people out of jails and prisons is policy that we need to be investing in particularly right now … this doesn’t end when the pandemic’s over.»
The American Friends Service Committee, which was also involved in hosting the webinar, advertised it as an opportunity to discuss «the road to decarceration and abolition with Abdul El-Sayed,» using the hashtags #FreeThemAll and #AbolishPrison to promote the event.
The Washington Free Beacon first reported on the resurfaced comments. El-Sayed appeared alongside a sex offender and a woman convicted of second-degree murder, according to the Free Beacon.
«When I was asked to participate in the webinar you’re writing about I did not know Dr. El-Sayed and I still don’t, except for what I see on TV,» Martin Vargas, the sex offender, told Fox News Digital. «I don’t follow him nor am associated with his political campaign.»
Vargas stated that he was almost certain El-Sayed was unaware of his past before agreeing to appear on the webinar.

El-Sayed is locked in a heated Democratic primary to win the Democratic nod to run for Michigan’s open Senate seat in November. He is widely viewed as the most progressive of the three major candidates, raising electability concerns with some leaders in the party, NOTUS reported.
«Abdul El-Sayed cannot win a general election in Michigan, full stop,» a longtime Democratic strategist previously told Fox News Digital. «This is a candidate who spent years calling police ‘standing armies we deploy against our own people,’ posted more than a dozen times in support of defunding the police, and then deleted his entire social media history the moment he decided to run statewide, hoping Michigan voters wouldn’t notice. They will notice. And so will Mike Rogers.»

As alluded to by the Democratic strategist, El-Sayed deleted social media posts he made during the COVID-19 era in which he endorsed defunding the police, an idea once in vogue among Democrats that has since become far more controversial.

«The last thing we have to remember is that jails and policing in America are like the ‘duct tape’ that people bring out to fix all the other broken systems,» El-Sayed said near the end of the webinar. «If we’re serious about fixing policing and, or rethinking policing, and fixing the mass incarceration system then we’ve got to fix all the broken problems that lead to them, right, where we’re then applying the ‘duct tape’ that is so corrosive to the lives of so many people.»
El-Sayed’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment when reached by Fox News Digital.

En toda Europa, muchos museos judíos han experimentado una disminución en el número de visitantes, una disminución en la afluencia de público y un aumento en las amenazas a la seguridad desde el otoño de 2023, según un informe reciente de la Asociación de Museos Judíos Europeos, una red sin fines de lucro con sede en Ámsterdam que agrupa a 55 instituciones. En 2024, la asistencia al museo cayó un 37 por ciento, y en 2025 disminuyó un 32 por ciento con respecto a los niveles de 2023.

Wenzel, quien también dirige el Museo Judío de Frankfurt, afirmó que esta idea errónea resultaba frustrante, dado el enfoque específico de su institución en la vida judía de la ciudad. «Somos una institución financiada por los contribuyentes alemanes», declaró. «No somos una institución que tome postura sobre cuestiones políticas».

Según declaró, su institución presentó 33 denuncias penales ante la policía en 2025. «Había esvásticas en nuestras instalaciones y en nuestras exposiciones», añadió Wenzel. «Hemos recibido varias llamadas con preguntas como “¿Por qué no los han gaseado?” y cartas con extrañas amenazas».
Estas amenazas han llevado a los museos judíos a reforzar sus medidas de seguridad y han convertido a muchos de ellos en lugares de trabajo muy estresantes. La mayoría de los directores de museos entrevistados afirmaron que sus instituciones habían sido objeto de ataques de odio, tanto presenciales como en línea.
En el verano de 2024, por ejemplo, un empleado del Museo Judío Danés olvidó cambiarse la camiseta de trabajo, que llevaba el logotipo del museo; un grupo de adolescentes lo agredió verbalmente de camino a casa, según Jensen, el director del museo.
“La gente está experimentando estrés, se siente agotada y está buscando otros trabajos”, dijo Jensen.
Emile Schrijver, director del Museo Judío de Ámsterdam, declaró que la afluencia de público había descendido de unos 104.000 visitantes en 2023 a 86.000 en 2024 y a 65.000 en 2025. Añadió que el museo pudo compensar la disminución en la venta de entradas con una subvención de un millón de dólares del gobierno neerlandés, pero que la pérdida de visitantes estaba afectando la moral del personal.
“¿Cómo se mantiene motivado al personal si los comisarios están creando exposiciones para menos visitantes y en circunstancias más difíciles?”, preguntó Schrijver.
En el Museo Judío de Bélgica, el ataque del 7 de octubre trajo a la memoria dolorosos recuerdos de otra tragedia ocurrida casi una década antes. En 2014, el museo fue escenario de un atentado terrorista cuando un hombre armado abrió fuego en su interior, matando a cuatro personas, entre ellas un voluntario del museo.
Un año después del ataque del 7 de octubre, el museo cerró sus puertas para una restauración y renovación multimillonaria, con el fin de modernizar su edificio histórico. Sin embargo, la construcción, organizada por el gobierno local, se encuentra paralizada.
Luego vino el vandalismo. Un día de marzo de 2025, Cuglietta, la directora, llegó al museo y encontró las palabras “Maricas por Palestina» garabateadas a lo largo de unos 12 metros en la fachada del edificio.
Cuglietta afirmó que esto solo la impulsó a reabrir el museo y retomar su misión de apoyar la vida judía en Bélgica. Planea hacerlo en la primavera de 2027.
“Sentimos la misma urgencia por reabrir y decir la verdad”, afirmó. “No nos van a cerrar. No nos van a cancelar”.
