Explosive sexual assault allegation rocks Platner campaign ahead of key deadline in crucial Senate race

Rumors are swirling on social media about the future of Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner after several of his events were canceled and a report from Politico accused the scandal-plagued Democratic nominee of sexual assault ahead of a key deadline in the race.
Maine resident Jenny Racicot, 41, told Politico over the course of three interviews that Platner forced her to have sex five years ago, a claim that Platner denied in the story. Additionally, the report says that a man Raciot dated afterward confirmed she had told him about the incident, which was also corroborated by emails between Racicot and her therapist.
«I remember him grabbing my pelvis and being really forceful of me,» Racicot told the outlet about the incident, which allegedly took place while Platner was «almost blackout drunk.» «I remember the specific moment where I thought to myself, like, ‘This is no longer my choice.’»
In a statement to Politico, Platner said, «These allegations are troubling, serious, and false. Any accusation of non-consensual behavior is categorically untrue.»

The Platner campaign posted a video on X shortly after the Politico story published where Platner again called the allegations «false» and that he was going to «reflect» on the best path forward.
«So, regardless of the inaccuracy of the reporting, but mindful the political reality it will inflict, we are taking the time to reflect on the best path forward for the state that I love, the people that I love, the movement I belong to, and the goal of defeating Susan Collins,» Platner says in the video. «Those were the goals when we launched this campaign, and they remain my goals today.»
Over the last few days, multiple Platner events over the 4th of July holiday weekend and Monday were canceled without an official explanation or comment from the campaign, Bangor Daily News reported on Monday, other than one event organizer saying that an event in Gorman was canceled due to Platner «not feeling well.»
The news of the canceled events led conservative outlets and pundits to speculate whether there is an underlying reason for the cancellations.
«Graham Platner cancels MULTIPLE scheduled town hall events as progressive allies tease another scandal is about to hit his campaign,» the Maine Wire news outlet posted on X. «Augusta town hall for last night – CANCELED Gorham town hall tonight – CANCELED Sanford town hall tonight – CANCELED. There are no other upcoming events listed on his FB page, or on Mobilize.»
«Graham Platner no-showed Fourth of July celebrations across Maine,» the National Republican Senatorial Committee posted on X in response to the Maine Wire post. «Now, he’s canceling everything else. We wouldn’t want to be seen in public either… «
«A well-placed source told us that Graham Platner is dropping out of the Maine Senate race this week,» the Washington Reporter posted on X. «Note that Platner has yet to release his Q2 fundraising totals, a sign he may have underperformed expectations. «

Fox News Digital reached out to the Platner campaign for comment on both the canceled events and the Politico report.
In addition to the online rumors, bets on the online prediction market Polymarket surged over the weekend, with users betting that Platner would drop out before the midterms.
Platner has been at the center of multiple controversies since launching his campaign, including infidelity, alleged physical abuse of an ex-girlfriend, a Nazi-linked tattoo, disparaging comments about the military, referring to himself as a «communist», scrutiny over his working-class bonafides, and a variety of inflammatory posts on a deleted Reddit account.
Despite the controversies, many polls in recent weeks showed that Platner had a lead on Collins. However, a Fox News poll published last week showed Collins with a small advantage along with more than half of respondents saying that Platner lacks the judgment to serve as a U.S. senator.

Now that Platner has won the Democratic primary, the next key date is 5 p.m. on Monday, July 13. Under Maine law, if Platner formally withdraws as the Democratic nominee by that deadline, the Maine Democratic Party can replace him on the general election ballot by selecting a new nominee through its party process, with the replacement required to be chosen by July 27.
If he remains the nominee past the July 13 deadline, the party generally loses its ability to substitute another candidate through the normal replacement process, except in limited circumstances defined under state law.

JORDAN VALLEY: After Hamas’ terrorist invasion of Israel’s southern border on Oct. 7, 2023, the Jewish state created the 96th army division to thwart new security threats along its border with Jordan.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) granted Fox News Digital exclusive access to military bases that are on the frontlines in the fight against Iran’s regime, terrorism, narcotics and weapons smuggling, as well as illegal entry of Palestinians seeking work in Israel.
While the «Jordanian border is a peace border,» an Israeli military official told Fox News Digital, «There is a strategic competition over Jordan. The other side [Iran’s regime] understands it is a peaceful border and a strategic advantage for any of our enemies who want to be there.» Jordan and Israel reached a peace agreement in 1994.

The Jordan Valley frequently appears in Scripture. John the Baptist led his ministry and baptisms, including Jesus’, in the Valley. «Tourists come to explore it [Jordan Valley region],» said the military official. As a result of the origins of Christianity and Judaism, the Jordan Valley has been labeled the «Original Bible Belt.»
During Israel’s seven-front war against Iran and its allies, Fox News Digital reported that the regime and Hamas sought to destabilize Jordan, according to Mideast experts.

After Hamas slaughtered over 1,200 people on 10/7, including more than 40 Americans, the IDF is reactivating 45 military bases spread out between Israel and Jordan. The IDF said the bases were built after the 1967 Six-Day War and their operation was» discontinued in the late 1990s. IDF Division 96 oversees the sprawling bases filled with bunkers in the Jordan Valley.
A military official told Fox News Digital that «Since the beginning of the year, Division 96 has thwarted more than 20 smuggling attempts involving weapons and narcotics.»
According to the military official, «All walks of life come here [Jordan Valley]. The army’s job is to make sure that everybody can live here in peace.» Division 96 covers 250 air miles and approximately 242.3 miles of territory, said the military official. The IDF created Division 96 a little more than a year ago.
The military official said that a critical piece of its multilayered defense is to build a new wall. «The army took everything we learned from 10/7 and revamped the wall.» The military official added the construction of the wall helps to explain why Palestinians are seeking to illegally enter Israel for employment: «They see the wall and realize that their time is now up to come in.»

He stressed there are legal entry points into Israel from the Jordanian side.
The multipronged new Israeli border system in the Jordan Valley is demarcated by three layers. The first layer is a military outpost, like the facility Fox News Digital toured. Named «European Goldfinch,» it is situated across from the defunct historical Adam Bridge, where two Jordanian military outposts are within eyesight.
The second layer of defense is the construction of a wall. And the third line of defense is the military bases that lodges Division 96. The IDF official said that the army also increased the number of reserve soldiers.
The Israeli army built another five battalions of soldiers who were never engaged in service or finished their service and wish to return to duty. The reservists «understood the point of history we are in» and their «love for Israel,» said the Israeli military official.
During Israel’s war with Iran, the clerical regime’s forces fired missiles into the Jordan Valley. The bunkers located in the outposts served as a refuge from Iran’s rockets.

The military bases inspected by Fox News Digital are located in Area C in the disputed West Bank territory, referred to by many Israelis by the region’s biblical names as Judea and Samaria. Nearly 500,000 Israelis and around 300,000 Palestinians live in Area C, which makes up 60% of the total area of Judea and Samaria. The Oslo Accords, which were signed between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1993, stipulated military and civilian control over Area C was absorbed by the IDF.
The miltiary official said that «We have the same agenda as Jordan: To keep the border peaceful.»

El movimiento islamista palestino Hamás anunció este lunes que disolvió el organismo que gobernó la Franja de Gaza durante casi dos décadas. La medida allana el camino para que un comité de tecnócratas administre el territorio devastado por la guerra con Israel.
La iniciativa supone un cambio político significativo para el movimiento islamista palestino, que tomó el poder del enclave en 2007 tras enfrentamientos con Fatah, la formación del presidente de la Autoridad Palestina Mahmud Abás, con sede en Ramala, en la Cisjordania ocupada.
Israel calificó el anuncio de “truco” de Hamás y volvió a exigir el desarme del grupo, como está previsto en el plan de paz mediado por Estados Unidos bajo la presidencia de Donald Trump.
“Mientras Hamás conserve sus armas, cualquier gobierno civil operará, por supuesto, según lo que dicte Hamás”, escribió en X el ministro de Exteriores de Israel, Gideon Saar. El canciler pidió el desarme del grupo y “la desmilitarización completa de la Franja de Gaza”.
Un paso formal, pero con muchas dudas
Desde la entrada en vigor del cese al fuego entre Israel y Hamás en octubre, el movimiento islamista afirmó estar dispuesto a ceder el poder en la Franja de Gaza a otra dirección palestina, pero quedan pendientes temas complejos como su desarme.

“También decidió disolver el comité para facilitar la transición administrativa y gubernamental hacia el Comité Nacional para la Administración de Gaza (NCAG)”, añadió.
El NCAG, que actualmente tiene sede en El Cairo, fue creado por la “Junta de Paz” establecida por Trump durante las negociaciones que desembocaron en un alto el fuego entre Hamás e Israel.

Desde entonces, se mencionaron diversos escenarios, pero sobre el terreno la situación se encuentra estancancada.
Uno de los principales puntos de fricción es el desarme de Hamás, que solo contempla esta posibilidad en el marco de una iniciativa política palestina. Israel se opone a ello.
“Hamás da un nuevo paso al renunciar a administrar la Franja de Gaza para privar a la ocupación de cualquier pretexto para continuar su agresión y su guerra de exterminio”, declaró el portavoz del movimiento, Hazem Qasem.
Un importante funcionario de Hamás, que pidió el anonimato, dijo que el movimiento informó a las otras facciones palestinas de su decisión durante una reciente reunión en El Cairo y, según él, todas ellas la aprobaron.
Una decisión “simbólica”
“El NCAG está completamente preparado para asumir sus responsabilidades nacionales tan pronto como estén disponibles los recursos y capacidades necesarios”, escribió en X su presidente, Ali Shaath.
La “Junta de Paz” reiteró que el principio fundamental es “la concentración de todas las armas bajo el control del NCAG”.
El politólogo Mkhaimar Abusada explicó que se trata de una decisión ante todo “simbólica”.
“El problema no es la disolución de su comité gubernamental, sino la aceptación de su desarme (…) sigue siendo el principal punto de bloqueo”, añadió.
La primera fase del alto el fuego permitió la liberación de los últimos rehenes israelíes retenidos por Hamás a cambio de palestinos encarcelados por Israel.
El paso a la segunda fase, que debía prever el desarme de Hamás y una retirada progresiva de las fuerzas israelíes de Gaza, lleva meses estancado e Israel reforzó su presencia en el territorio.
Israel excluye el regreso de Hamás al poder, pero también se opone de momento a que la Autoridad Palestina tome el control.
Hamás e Israel se acusan mutuamente de violar el alto el fuego.
Al menos 1072 palestinos han muerto en la Franja de Gaza desde la entrada en vigor de la tregua, según el ministerio de Salud del territorio, bajo la autoridad de Hamás, cuyas cifras son consideradas fiables por la ONU.

El Octágono: por qué Egipto invirtió USD 10.000 millones en la mayor base militar del mundo en plena crisis económica
Egipto acaba de inaugurar El Octágono, un complejo militar de 92 kilómetros cuadrados —una superficie equivalente a casi la mitad de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires— que demandó más de una década de obras y una inversión estimada en USD 10.000 millones. Se trata, según sus propios impulsores, del mayor centro de defensa del mundo. Pero lo que más llamó la atención de los analistas no fue solo su escala, sino el momento elegido para mostrarlo: en medio de una crisis económica que golpea con fuerza al país.
En Infobae al Mediodía, el analista internacional Andrei Serbin Pont sostuvo que el proyecto excede lo arquitectónico y funciona como una señal política, tanto hacia adentro como hacia el resto de la región.
“Cuando digo megacomplejo, lo digo en serio”, planteó Serbin Pont al describir la magnitud de la obra. El Octágono está formado por ocho edificios principales distribuidos en forma casi circular, más dos estructuras centrales reservadas para la conducción política y estratégica del país. “Los dos centrales son la parte de decisión política. El resto pertenece a los diferentes componentes de las Fuerzas Armadas”, precisó.
El objetivo, según el especialista, fue reunir en un mismo predio la totalidad del mando militar egipcio y erigir así “el centro de defensa más grande del mundo”. No pasó inadvertido, además, que la inauguración se produjera el mismo fin de semana en que Estados Unidos celebraba el 4 de julio, un detalle que Serbin Pont consideró cargado de simbolismo.
El dato que más interpela, sin embargo, es el contexto en el que se decidió mostrar la obra al mundo. Egipto atraviesa un programa de asistencia financiera con el Fondo Monetario Internacional y sufre una merma severa en los ingresos que genera el Canal de Suez, una de sus principales fuentes de divisas.
Desde fines de 2023, los ataques de los rebeldes hutíes contra buques comerciales en el Mar Rojo redujeron en torno al 60% el tránsito por esa vía, golpeando directamente las cuentas públicas egipcias.
La comparación que trazó Serbin Pont fue elocuente: “El equivalente de lo que se ha gastado en este megacomplejo también lo han perdido en esta reducción del tráfico”. Y remató: “Lo inauguran este fin de semana. El timing es impresionante”.
La crisis del Suez no es el único frente abierto para la política exterior egipcia. El otro gran desafío, señaló el analista, es la disputa con Etiopía por el control de las aguas del Nilo.
“El río Nilo abastece más del 85% del agua que requiere Egipto, y Egipto es 93% desierto”, explicó Serbin Pont para dimensionar por qué ese recurso es, en sus palabras, “vital” para la supervivencia del país.
La puesta en marcha de la Gran Presa del Renacimiento Etíope —la mayor central hidroeléctrica de África— profundizó la tensión entre ambos países. Como respuesta, Egipto reforzó su cooperación militar con Somalia, rival regional de Etiopía, a través de acuerdos de defensa y provisión de armamento. “Los egipcios están muy enojados”, resumió el analista, y recordó que esa escalada llevó incluso a que Donald Trump reclamara públicamente una negociación para evitar un conflicto militar entre ambos países.
Serbin Pont también se detuvo en la política de compras militares de Egipto, que opera una flota heterogénea: aviones F-16 estadounidenses, Rafale franceses, MiG rusos y, desde el año pasado, cazas J-10 chinos.
Para el analista, esa combinación responde a una estrategia deliberada de diversificación de proveedores. Cuando Estados Unidos restringió la venta de determinado armamento para los F-16, Egipto no modificó sus planes de modernización: simplemente giró hacia Beijing. “Dijeron: ‘Bueno, bárbaro’. Llamaron a China, compraron fierro chino y listo”, ilustró, en referencia al pragmatismo con el que —a su juicio— El Cairo maneja su agenda de defensa.
Consultado sobre la imagen de Egipto como un país históricamente atravesado por la violencia, Serbin Pont recordó una historia reciente marcada por conflictos regionales, golpes de Estado y episodios de fuerte inestabilidad política.
Para Serbin Pont, todos estos elementos —la crisis del Suez, la pelea por el Nilo, el rearme diversificado— confluyen en la lectura de El Octágono. “Egipto es una suerte de power hub militar en la región», sostuvo. Y cerró con una definición que resume su análisis: “Muy pragmáticos, muy diversificados, complicados con el agua… pero mirá lo que es ese edificio. Es increíble ese complejo”.
