President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing for a high-stakes summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a moment when both Washington and Beijing are trying to stabilize one of the world’s most consequential rivalries without giving ground on deeper strategic disputes.
The two-day visit marks Trump’s first trip to China since 2017 and comes amid mounting tensions over trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan and the fallout from the war with Iran. While the White House is framing the summit as an opportunity for new economic agreements and «rebalancing» the U.S.–China relationship, analysts say Beijing’s priorities are far broader and more long-term.
«Trump arrives seeking headline deals and visible momentum ahead of the midterms,» wrote Zongyuan Zoe Liu, senior fellow for China studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. «Xi is playing a longer game, focused on strategic patience rather than substantive compromise.»

Topics expected to be discussed during the summit include trade, aerospace, agriculture and energy agreements, and the creation of a U.S.–China Board of Trade and Board of Investment, according to the White House.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said Trump’s goal is to «deliver more good deals on behalf of our country» while safeguarding U.S. national security.
Trump participated in a welcome ceremony and bilateral meeting with Xi Thursday morning local time in Beijing, followed by a tour of the Temple of Heaven alongside the Chinese leader and a state banquet later.
Chinese Embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu said Beijing views the summit as an opportunity to stabilize ties between the world’s two largest economies.
«Heads-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable role in providing strategic guidance for China–U.S. relations,» Liu said in a statement to Fox News Digital. «We welcome President Trump’s state visit to China. China stands ready to work with the U.S. to expand cooperation and manage differences in the spirit of equality, respect and mutual benefit, and provide more stability and certainty for a transforming and volatile world.»
For Xi, analysts say, the top priority likely is avoiding further escalation with Washington while buying time for China’s slowing economy, as it continues to struggle with weak domestic demand, deflationary pressure and industrial overcapacity.
A recent report by the U.S.–China Economic and Security Review Commission warned that Beijing is doubling down on state-led industrial policy despite mounting structural weaknesses in the Chinese economy.
The commission said China is increasingly operating a «two-speed» economy, where much of the broader economy stagnates while sectors prioritized by the Chinese Communist Party receive massive state support and continue expanding beyond market demand.
The report also warned of a new «China Shock 2.0,» arguing Beijing’s excess industrial capacity and record trade surplus are disrupting global markets while increasing foreign dependence on Chinese-controlled supply chains in sectors ranging from batteries and pharmaceuticals to semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
«Chinese policy seeks simultaneously to reduce China’s reliance on foreign technology while increasing the world’s dependence on China,» the commission noted in its findings.

At the same time, Xi is entering the talks with leverage stemming from the ongoing Iran crisis and global energy disruptions.
Trump has faced growing domestic pressure over rising energy prices tied to instability in the Middle East and shipping threats near the Strait of Hormuz. Beijing, meanwhile, remains one of Iran’s largest oil customers and maintains political ties with Tehran.
Susan Thornton, former acting assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs during Trump’s first term, said during a recent Stanford University Asia-Pacific Research Center interview that expectations for major breakthroughs should remain low despite the summit’s symbolism.
«The primary value lies in the act of meeting itself,» Thornton said.
She suggested Beijing may see a strategic advantage in America’s renewed focus on the Middle East. While China has made nominal peace proposals, it has not stepped up as a mediator.
«It seems like they are kind of hanging back and waiting to see what will happen,» Thornton said, arguing that from Beijing’s perspective, a U.S. entanglement in the Middle East may serve as a useful distraction, diverting Washington’s attention and pressure away from China.
One area where the two sides could announce tangible progress is agriculture.
The White House is pushing Beijing for expanded purchases of U.S. farm products ahead of the summit, according to a Reuters report published Tuesday, particularly soybeans and grains.
But traders and analysts told Reuters that China’s appetite for major new soybean commitments may be limited due to weak domestic demand and cheaper alternatives from Brazil. Instead, markets are watching for potential agreements involving corn, sorghum, wheat, beef and poultry, sectors viewed as less politically contentious in the broader U.S.–China relationship.
More than a dozen U.S. business executives, including leaders from agricultural giant Cargill, are accompanying Trump during the visit.

Despite the focus on trade and geopolitical tensions, survivors of China’s religious persecution are urging the administration not to sideline Beijing’s crackdown on religious groups and dissidents.
Ahead of the summit, Trump publicly pledged to raise the case of imprisoned Chinese pastor Ezra Jin following advocacy efforts by his daughter, Grace Jin Drexel, who has accused Beijing of persecuting Christians.
Former U.S. officials told Fox News Digital they are skeptical human rights concerns will play a central role during a summit primarily focused on lowering tensions and stabilizing economic ties between the two powers.
Taiwan and technology restrictions are also expected to loom over the talks. Beijing continues to oppose U.S. arms sales and support for Taiwan, while Washington has tightened export controls targeting China’s advanced semiconductor and AI sectors.

The political left’s attempt to counter-program President Donald Trump’s UFC event on the White House lawn Sunday night ended in widespread online mockery as celebrities and media personalities who have publicly complained for a decade about President Donald Trump offered more of the same.
The event, called «Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment,» was hosted by far-left activist and actress Jane Fonda, nicknamed «Hanoi Jane,» and the Committee for the First Amendment in New York City. Participants spent three hours railing against Trump, recycling talking points about «fascism» and «authoritarianism» that have been repeatedly levied against the president since he first took office in 2016.
The event was streamed on numerous left-wing YouTube channels, and also aired on C-SPAN.

Bette Midler, an 80-year-old actress and activist, took center stage to perform her own rendition of Woody Guthrie’s «All You Fascists Bound to Lose,» backed by four other singers. She changed some of the lyrics to the song to make it anti-ICE themed.

Copeco evaluará situación en 75 municipios de Honduras bajo alerta ante llegada del fenómeno de El Niño
Copeco evaluará esta semana las condiciones climáticas en los 75 municipios bajo alerta verde por sequía en Honduras, después de que la NOAA confirmara la presencia del fenómeno de El Niño. Las autoridades revisarán si las alertas se amplían, se reducen o se mantienen, según las proyecciones para los próximos meses.
La revisión se hará junto con los sectores que integran la Mesa de trabajo, encargada de coordinar acciones de prevención y respuesta ante los efectos de la escasez de lluvias, en especial en las regiones más vulnerables del país.
El jefe del Sistema de Alerta Temprano de Copeco, Juan José Reyes, dijo que la advertencia emitida por la Administración Nacional Oceánica y Atmosférica de Estados Unidos (NOAA) obliga a las autoridades a volver a analizar el comportamiento climático y las perspectivas para los próximos meses.
“Esta semana vamos a estar haciendo un análisis profundo de cómo están las condiciones después de la oficialización que la NOAA nos indica que tenemos una advertencia del fenómeno de El Niño”, señaló el funcionario.
De acuerdo con Reyes, durante las reuniones técnicas se definirá si el número de municipios bajo alerta verde debe aumentar, reducirse o mantenerse, según las condiciones observadas en cada región y las proyecciones meteorológicas para el resto del año.
Las autoridades advirtieron que El Niño podría prolongarse hasta inicios de 2027 y generar efectos acumulativos sobre la disponibilidad de agua, la producción agrícola y los medios de vida de miles de familias hondureñas.
Los análisis tomarán en cuenta los niveles de precipitación registrados durante las últimas semanas, la humedad de los suelos, la disponibilidad de recursos hídricos y las perspectivas climáticas para la temporada de canícula.
El jefe del Centro Nacional de Estudios Atmosféricos, Oceanográficos y Sísmicos (Cenaos), Francisco Argeñal, advirtió que el fenómeno se perfila como un evento de intensidad considerable, con una reducción de lluvias en amplias zonas del territorio nacional.
Según explicó, una de las principales consecuencias será una canícula más prolongada, acompañada de un déficit de precipitaciones que podría superar el 40% en algunas regiones.
“Esto nos va a generar un déficit de lluvia de más de un 40 %, afectando sobre todo la parte sur del corredor seco de Honduras”, alertó Argeñal.
El especialista indicó que las condiciones previstas podrían agravar la vulnerabilidad de comunidades que históricamente enfrentan problemas de acceso al agua y pérdidas recurrentes en la producción agrícola por las sequías.
Las proyecciones generan preocupación en el sector agropecuario, ya que una reducción de las lluvias podría afectar de forma directa la producción de maíz y frijol, cultivos centrales para la alimentación de la población hondureña.
Desce COPECO advirtieron que una caída en los rendimientos agrícolas podría repercutir en el abastecimiento de alimentos y provocar aumentos en los precios de productos esenciales de la canasta básica.
Además, el impacto sería mayor en las comunidades del corredor seco, donde miles de familias dependen de la agricultura de subsistencia y son especialmente vulnerables a los efectos de la variabilidad climática.
Ante este escenario, las instituciones que integran la Mesa Antisequía trabajan en la identificación de medidas preventivas para reducir los efectos de la sequía y fortalecer la capacidad de respuesta de las comunidades más expuestas.
Las autoridades también reiteraron la importancia de monitorear de forma constante la evolución del fenómeno de El Niño y mantener mecanismos de coordinación entre los distintos sectores para anticipar posibles escenarios de afectación.

FIRST ON FOX: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a Brazilian illegal immigrant, who authorities say previously served as the commander of two designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations, after allegedly attempting to flee a North Carolina traffic stop while preparing to escape to Mexico.
Felipe Linares de Oliveira Dell Aquilla, known as «Don,» was arrested June 5 in Mooresville, North Carolina, after allegedly leading law enforcement on a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash before his arrest, according to a Department of Homeland Security press release obtained by Fox News Digital.
Federal authorities say Dell Aquilla was wanted in Brazil on charges of criminal association and extortion and had been preparing to leave the United States for Mexico.
Dell Aquilla previously served as a commander within the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV), two Brazil-based criminal organizations that were recently designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations by the Trump administration, according to DHS.

Law enforcement intelligence indicated Dell Aquilla was holding his wife against her will as he plotted his escape to Mexico. Authorities said investigators later interviewed his wife, who confirmed she had been held against her will.
Investigators said Dell Aquilla led authorities on a pursuit after officers initiated a traffic stop. The chase ended when he crashed into stopped traffic and allegedly attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of multiple cellphones, laptops, cash and a 9 mm handgun, according to DHS.

«HSI will continue to pursue those who endanger our communities and bring them to justice.»
Dell Aquilla was transported to a county jail and faces a state felony charge of fleeing to elude arrest. HSI is pursuing additional charges of kidnapping and being an alien in possession of a firearm, according to DHS. ICE has also lodged a detainer on him.
Dell Aquilla illegally entered the United States «at an unknown date and location,» according to federal authorities.
