Israeli strike on Hezbollah more devastating than 2024 pager attack, IDF says

Hezbollah, an Iran-backed terrorist group, saw its command structure across Lebanon come under what Israeli officials described as one of the most devastating blows of the war April 8.
Nearly simultaneously, explosions tore through Beirut, Lebanon, the Beqaa Valley and southern Lebanon as roughly 50 Israeli aircraft struck more than 100 Hezbollah targets.
The targets were not rocket launchers or weapons depots, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), but the nerve centers of the organization — command rooms, intelligence headquarters and offices where Hezbollah commanders planned the next stage of the fight.

The strike marked a new phase in the war between Israel and Hezbollah, which erupted March 2 after Hezbollah entered the conflict in support of Iran, one day after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Since then, Hezbollah has fired rockets, drones and anti-tank missiles into northern Israel, while Israel has responded with widening airstrikes and a ground offensive inside southern Lebanon.

«Within only a minute, the IDF eliminated 250 Hezbollah terrorists in three areas simultaneously,» the Israeli military said in a statement, adding the assessment is still ongoing.
Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, an IDF spokesman, told Fox News Digital the strike was the result of weeks of intelligence work.
Israeli intelligence agencies tracked Hezbollah operatives as they moved between apartments, offices and safe houses across Lebanon.
«The timing had to do with the preparations,» Shoshani said. «There was weeks of amazing intelligence.»
Asked whether the operation showed Israel still has deep penetration inside Hezbollah despite months of war, Shoshani pointed to the scale of the attack.
«The fact that we were able to find 250 terrorists hiding in different locations in Lebanon, many of them in locations for recent weeks, eliminating them in real time, I think the capabilities speak for themselves,» he said.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned Wednesday’s strikes.
«The scale of the killing and destruction in Lebanon today is nothing short of horrific,» said United Nations Human Rights Chief Volker Türk. «Such carnage, within hours of agreeing to a ceasefire with Iran, defies belief.»
«This response will continue until the Israeli-American aggression against our country and our people ceases,» Hezbollah said in a statement.

The strike drew a comparison to the «beeper» operation in September 2024, when thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah operatives exploded almost simultaneously across Lebanon and Syria in an operation widely attributed to Israel.
The blasts killed more than 40 people and wounded roughly 4,000, according to Lebanese authorities, while Hezbollah later acknowledged that about 1,500 fighters were taken out of action. The operation shattered Hezbollah’s communications network and became the benchmark in Israel for a strike that fundamentally changed the battlefield.
«The beeper had more … effective injuries. That was the purpose of it,» Shoshani said. «But both targeted hundreds of terrorists and within 60 seconds.»
Like the beeper operation, he said, the April 8 strike was intended not just to kill operatives but to throw Hezbollah into disarray.
«It was important to the aspect of creating disarray, of breaking their chain of command, breaking their command and patrol capabilities and kind of tilting the organization out of balance,» he said.
A former Israeli intelligence official, speaking on background, said the strike may not have reached the level of the beeper operation, but it appeared to hit an unusually broad layer of Hezbollah’s middle ranks.
Hezbollah remains in shock from the blow, according to the former official, even if that has not yet been reflected in a drop in its rocket fire.
But he cautioned against judging the operation only by the number of people killed.
The real measure, he said, is whether the strike changes the course of the war and leaves Hezbollah less able to operate.
The IDF said many of those killed belonged to Hezbollah’s Radwan Force, Hezbollah’s most capable and best-trained combat unit, intelligence apparatus, missile units and aerial Unit 127.
The Israeli military said most of the targets were embedded inside civilian areas.
«Most of the infrastructure that was struck was located within the heart of the civilian population,» the IDF said.

Shoshani said Israel warned civilians to evacuate before the strikes, but Hezbollah moved its operatives into new civilian locations.
«When we gave the warnings for areas, civilians moved out, then Hezbollah saw that they moved out and started hiding behind civilians in new locations,» he said.
Despite the blow, Israeli officials say Hezbollah remains a major threat. Shoshani said the group, which before the war possessed between 150,000 and 200,000 rockets and missiles, still has the ability to fire into Israel.
«They still are a real threat for our civilians,» he said.

The strike comes as Israel and Lebanon opened their first direct talks in more than three decades at the U.S. State Department in Washington.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has signaled willingness to discuss normalization and the eventual disarmament of Hezbollah, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted there will be no ceasefire until Hezbollah is dismantled and pushed back from the border.
Within hours of the diplomatic opening, Israeli warplanes again struck Lebanon and Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel.

Donald Trump dijo que Irán no puede “chantajear” a EEUU con amenazas sobre el estrecho de Ormuz
El presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, advirtió este sábado a Irán que no “chantajee” a Washington con sus contradicciones sobre el futuro del estrecho de Ormuz, después de que Teherán declarara nuevamente cerrado este estratégico canal.
“Estamos hablando con ellos. Querían cerrar el estrecho otra vez, ya saben, como han venido haciendo durante años, y no pueden chantajearnos”, afirmó durante un evento en la Casa Blanca.
El régimen persa informó más temprano que ha restablecido un “control estricto” sobre el estrecho de Ormuz, luego de haber anunciado su reapertura, como respuesta al bloqueo impuesto por Estados Unidos a los puertos iraníes.
Según el portavoz del Cuartel General Central Jatam al Anbiya, el teniente coronel Ebrahim Zolfagari, “el control del estrecho de Ormuz ha vuelto a su estado anterior y esta vía estratégica se encuentra bajo una estricta gestión y control por parte de las Fuerzas Armadas”, indicó en un comunicado difundido por la agencia Tasnim.
Zolfagari explicó que el control sobre el paso marítimo implica restricciones al tránsito en una de las principales rutas energéticas, por donde circula el 20% del petróleo mundial.
Añadió que Teherán había autorizado previamente el paso “limitado y gestionado” de algunos buques petroleros y comerciales como “gesto de buena fe” durante las negociaciones, pero que esta medida se revocó por la continuidad del bloqueo estadounidense, al que calificó de reiterado incumplimiento por parte de Washington.
“Mientras Estados Unidos no restablezca la plena libertad de tránsito de las embarcaciones desde Irán y hacia Irán, la situación en el estrecho de Ormuz permanecerá bajo un control riguroso”, afirmó Zolfagari.
Durante la madrugada, el presidente del Parlamento iraní, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, señaló en X que el estrecho de Ormuz “no permanecerá abierto” si el bloqueo estadounidense sigue vigente y denunció “afirmaciones falsas” de Trump sobre el paso marítimo y las negociaciones de paz.
“Con estas mentiras no ganaron la guerra y, sin duda, tampoco lograrán nada en las negociaciones”, expresó Qalibaf, quien lideró la delegación iraní en las recientes conversaciones con EEUU en Islamabad.
Qalibaf indicó también que el tránsito por el estrecho se realizará según “rutas designadas” y con “autorización de Irán”.
En otro orden, las sirenas antiaéreas en Israel llevan más de 24 horas sin activarse; la alerta más reciente, ocurrida en la madrugada del viernes en una comunidad fronteriza con Líbano, correspondió a una falsa alarma. Desde que comenzó la guerra con Irán el 28 de febrero, el territorio israelí fue blanco de múltiples lanzamientos de misiles, drones y cohetes por parte de Irán, terroristas de de Hezbollah en Líbano y, posteriormente, los hutíes en Yemen.
Estos ataques, que en ocasiones se repitieron más de una docena de veces por día, continuaron hasta el inicio del alto el fuego el viernes, con Hezbollah manteniendo los disparos hasta ese momento.
Las principales zonas urbanas, como Jerusalén y Tel Aviv, así como localidades del sur y del norte de Israel, tuvieron que activar protocolos de emergencia, llevando a los habitantes a buscar resguardo en búnkeres y habitaciones protegidas tanto de día como de noche.

FIRST ON FOX: Justice Elena Kagan’s frustrations boiled over in the aftermath of the Dobbs opinion leak in 2022, leading her to allegedly scream «so loudly» at Justice Stephen Breyer that the «wall was shaking,» observers said, according to a new book.
Conservative author and Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway’s forthcoming book «Alito,» reviewed by Fox News Digital and set for release Tuesday, details the incident and other heated moments surrounding the leak, which spurred waves of protests and death threats against the five conservative justices expected to overturn Roe that year.
The Supreme Court’s deep division on abortion was clear at the time, but the book reveals that a typically unified liberal bloc was also fractured.
Hemingway wrote that Kagan, an Obama appointee, angrily confronted Breyer, a Clinton appointee, in May 2022 behind closed doors after at least one justice, Samuel Alito, had asked his liberal colleagues to speed up writing their dissent because of security threats. Breyer was most likely to agree to Alito’s request, Hemingway wrote.

«Though he had not said he would accommodate the justices whose lives were at risk by getting out a dissent, [Breyer] was the member of the liberal bloc most willing to do so,» Hemingway wrote. «Fiercely liberal in his jurisprudence and in strong disagreement with the majority decision, he nevertheless was a gentleman and a friend to all on the Court. Kagan remonstrated with Breyer not to accommodate the majority, screaming so loudly, observers noted, that the ‘wall was shaking.’»
Fox News Digital reached out to representatives for Breyer as well as the Supreme Court’s press office for comment on the book.
The security threats at the time were severe, as protesters who supported access to abortion frequently showed up at conservative justices’ homes. Shortly after the leak, Attorney General Merrick Garland ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to provide full-time security for all the justices, but he drew criticism because authorities did not arrest protesters despite a law that prohibits «picketing or parading» near a federal judge’s home to influence a court decision.
In June 2022, before the Supreme Court issued its decision, a suspect armed with a pistol, knife and burglary tools was arrested near Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home. Nicholas Roske, who now goes by Sophie, later pleaded guilty to attempting to murder a Supreme Court justice and received a controversial sentence of eight years in prison, which the Department of Justice is appealing.

«As the protests continued, the Alitos were moved to a secure location,» Hemingway wrote. «Justice Barrett had to put on a bulletproof vest in front of her children, most of whom still lived at home.»
Kagan’s contentious interaction with Breyer, who was set to retire in June 2022, came after a May 12 conference meeting, according to the book. Only the nine justices attend conference meetings, which are held periodically. Hemingway, who wrote the book based on interviews with the justices and dozens of others, said at this point the majority opinion had been ready for months and only the dissents were outstanding.
Hemingway did not name the justices she interviewed because they spoke on background, but she told Fox News Digital she spoke with most of them.
«Alito asked the dissenters to make the completion of their dissents their priority because delay of the decision was a security threat,» Hemingway wrote. «Abortion supporters had an incentive to kill one or more of the justices in the majority to change the outcome. The dissenters demurred. [Justice Neil] Gorsuch spoke up, asking for a date by which they might be done. They would not give a date.»

The landmark opinion, overturning Roe 5-4 and upholding a Mississippi law 6-3 that banned most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, was released June 24, 2022. An investigative report by the New York Times detailed an internal effort spearheaded by Chief Justice John Roberts, the lone conservative to object to dismantling Roe, and Breyer to flip one conservative in the months leading up to the decision. Breyer had been eyeing Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the outlet reported.

The Supreme Court’s draft opinion, authored by Alito, was published May 2 in Politico, representing a stunning breach of the high court’s rules. The leaker’s identity remains unknown to this day.

En una entrevista con FourFourTwo, relató cómo, luego de aquel encuentro, su adicción al alcohol lo llevó a tocar fondo antes de iniciar un extenso proceso de recuperación que ya supera los 30 años de sobriedad.
Tras el certamen, el defensor atravesó uno de los periodos más difíciles de su vida profesional y personal. El jugador describió el efecto devastador que la final tuvo sobre él y detalló una caída en el consumo excesivo de alcohol: “Me fui de juerga durante 44 días y toqué fondo… Desde entonces, he estado sobrio y estoy orgulloso de no haber vuelto a caer durante tres décadas”.
El 26 de junio de 1996 marcó el fin del torneo para Inglaterra y el inicio de un momento crítico para Adams. Explicó que no consumió alcohol durante la competencia, pero la derrota en semifinales —agravada por el penal fallado por Gareth Southgate— precipitó una recaída que duró semanas. “Fue determinante para mí. Si Gareth hubiera anotado, habríamos llegado a la final. No sabía si iba a jugar, tenía una inyección en la rodilla, pero tras el penal no tuve defensa”, rememoró.

El cambio comenzó cuando Adams, tras la ruptura de su primer matrimonio motivada por problemas similares, decidió buscar asistencia profesional. Se integró en Alcohólicos Anónimos y empezó una terapia sostenida con el terapeuta James West.
En tanto, la llegada de Arsène Wenger al Arsenal en 1996 fue un apoyo esencial en ese nuevo proceso: “Él solo quería lo mejor para nosotros. Me ayudó a alcanzar el 100% de mi capacidad, cuando antes jugaba apenas al 70%”.
