DOJ demands 865K Detroit ballots, threatening possible legal action

Michigan is among states doubling down on rejecting Trump administration investigations and oversight into elections, claiming protection of the right to vote, potentially setting up a battle that could escalate to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Justice Department is demanding roughly 865,000 ballots and hundreds of thousands of related election records from the Detroit area’s 2024 election, threatening to seek a court order if the materials are not turned over within 14 days.
In an April 14 letter to Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon asked for «all ballots (including absentee and provisional), ballot receipts, and ballot envelopes» from the November 2024 federal election, saying the department was acting under federal records-retention law and investigating whether election laws were followed.
Dhillon wrote that the request was based on a «history of fraud convictions and other allegations» in Wayne County and warned that failure to comply «may result in the United States seeking a court order for production of such records.»

«Here @theJusticeDept, ensuring election integrity is a paramount duty,» Dhillon wrote Sunday on X, sharing the video of her appearance on Fox News’ «Sunday Morning Futures» with Maria Bartiromo. «Many states fail to clean noncitizen & deceased people from their voter rolls, and under my leadership, @CivilRights will continue working to ensure that ONLY eligible American citizens vote in our elections!»
Dhillon added her investigations seek to «ensure accountability for the outrageous weaponization of the deep state against President Trump and his team.»
«It must never be repeated!» she concluded.

The demand marks the latest step in a broader push by the Trump administration to scrutinize election procedures in key swing states after earlier moves involving 2020 ballots in Georgia and election records in Arizona.
Democrat officials in Michigan blasted the request as baseless and politically motivated.
«If this administration wants to bring this circus to our state, my office is prepared to protect the people’s right to vote,» Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel told The Washington Post.

The Justice Department’s request covers ballots, ballot envelopes and ballot receipts in Wayne County, which includes Detroit.
Nessel wrote in a separate letter that the department is seeking about 865,000 ballots and that the request was directed to the wrong office because the ballots are held by 43 municipal clerks, not the Wayne County clerk.
In her letter, Dhillon cited three voter-fraud cases and repeated allegations raised in a 2020 lawsuit against Detroit and Wayne County over absentee-ballot handling. That suit was later dismissed, with a judge finding the allegations were not credible.

Nessel argued that Dhillon’s request is a «fishing expedition» that goes too far back in state election history, and the past findings of fraud in 2020 were not widespread, claiming the «the process worked» in rooting out fraud.
Further investigation will be «an unwarranted intrusion into Michigan elections,» she added, and would put an undue burden on elections officials before the Aug. 2 primary, which is more than three months away.
«Any form of federal interference in Michigan’s elections, including any attempt to seize election records, will be closely scrutinized,» she warned.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer called the request a «poorly disguised attempt to justify more doubt and misinformation about our elections,» while Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson described it as the administration’s «latest attempt to interfere in our elections,» according to the Post.
The Post report of Michigan’s letter to Dhillon came hours after her appearance on Fox News, where Dhillon laid out the work of the DOJ and the obstruction it faces from Democrat-run states like Michigan.
«I’ve requested the voter rolls from all states and the District of Columbia,» Dhillon told Bartiromo. «About a third of the states have voluntarily complied with us or reached settlements with us, and we’ve run some of those records.

«I’m suing 29 states and the District of Columbia for their refusal to give us the voter rolls to which the attorney general or the acting attorney general is entitled under the Civil Rights Act of 1960. We’re doing that to make sure that states are in compliance,» she said. «And guess what? States are not in compliance, even those ones who want to do so.»
Dhillon noted that in the DOJ’s investigation into the states that have cooperated with transparency to her requests, «we found at least 350,000 dead people currently on the voter rolls in those jurisdictions.»

«And we’ve referred approximately 25,000 people with no citizenship records to Homeland Security to look at, you know, dig into that further and see the extent to which people voted,» she continued. «I’m in touch with voting rights activists who are showing me information about people who have voted, who are not American citizens.»
«So the left told us, this never happens. And it’s a myth,» Dhillon continued. «It definitely happened just recently, someone was indicted in Minnesota, of all places, for voting without being a citizen.»

Minnesota, Dhillon noted, «has a weird vouching law that allows citizens to vouch for each other’s citizenship.»
«That’s crazy and inconsistent with the Help America Vote Act, and we’re not going to rest until we complete this project,» Dhillon said.

Israeli ambassador, UN official shout over each other in tense exchange over sexual violence blacklist

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations (U.N.) Danny Danon erupted at Vanessa Frazier, the U.N. Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, in a tense exchange over Frazier’s role in placing Israel on a blacklist on sexual violence.
The pair shouted over each other during a Friday U.N. meeting marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict after a report Frazier helped author placed Israel on a sexual violence blacklist.
«You caved to the pressure. You caved to the Secretary General’s obsession with targeting Israel. And in doing so,» Danon began before Frazier chimed in.

The United Nations Secretary-General’s office listed Israeli entities in the annex of the U.N.’s annual Conflict-Related Sexual Violence report in May. The report specifically mentioned the Israel Defense Forces, the Israel Prison Services and the country’s border police Counter Terrorism Unit after U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres labeled the organizations «a party credibly suspected of committing or being responsible for patterns of rape or other sexual violence.»
Danon had previously condemned the U.N.’s decision to add Israel to the blacklist and announced a freezing of relations between Israel and Guterres’ office.

In a statement to Fox News, Danon’s office blasted the decision as a «stain» and noted that Israel was being placed on a list with terrorist organizations.
«Israel has been placed on a blacklist alongside Hamas, ISIS, and Boko Haram. This is a moral disgrace that will be remembered as one of the darkest stains on António Guterres’ legacy,» he said.

On Friday, Danon also called for U.N. Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Pramila Patten to resign. He then rebuffed an apparent attempt by Frazier to defend Patten, noting that Patten was not present at the meeting.

Patten’s office told Fox News Digital that she was sick and out of the office since June 17 and that this was announced before the meeting.
«I will speak and you will be quiet. You work for the U.N. and you will respect the rule of the U.N. Respect the rule. We will not allow you to bully us. We are a member state, and you work for the U.N., and you will be quiet now. You will be quiet. Shameful. You and your shameful report. We know why you took this position. We will not let you be part of this shameful campaign. I will finish my words. If you don’t want to listen, go out,» Danon continued.

Danon contended that Israel cooperated with the U.N. and that the organization did not independently review the evidence or give Israel a fair opportunity to address the allegations. He also accused Patten of lending credibility to a politically motivated campaign against Israel.

«If verifying the facts is not Ms. Patten’s responsibility, then what exactly is her responsibility?» Danon asked.
«You knew Israel had cooperated. You knew you had not reviewed the evidence yourself. Yet you chose to stand behind this falsehood. You should have said no. You should have resigned. You tried to stain Israel’s name. But the stain is not on Israel. The stain is on you,» he said during the U.N. meeting.
Patten’s office rebuked Danon’s claims of cooperation, telling Fox News Digital the claims were «not accurate in as much as the visit which was scheduled in March after Ramadan and before Passover (at the request of the State of Israel and the State of Palestine) was suspended after the war with Iran broke out on 28 February.»

Danon’s office also plans on filing a formal complaint with the U.N. over Frazier’s interruptions during the meeting, his office told Fox News Digital.
Fox News Digital contacted a spokesperson for Patten and for Frazier but did not immediately receive a response.

Fiel al estilo personalista de Trump, el nuevo VC-25B Bridge -la denominación establecida por la US Air Force- deja de lado en su esquema exterior el azul adoptado en la era Kennedy para adoptar una imagen más audaz, con la mitad inferior pintada de azul marino y una franja roja por encima. El lado izquierdo, por donde aborda el Presidente, lleva el sello presidencial, mientras que la cola luce una enorme bandera estadounidense.
“Este avión fue transformado en una Casa Blanca voladora con un nivel de lujo que nadie ha visto jamás”, describió Trump en el acto oficial, realizado dentro de un enorme hangar de la Base Conjunta Andrews. También confirmó que llevará el nuevo jet a la cumbre de la OTAN en Ankara, Turquía, en julio, e indicó que regresará a China “en algún momento”, presumiblemente en referencia a la cumbre del Foro de Cooperación Económica Asia-Pacífico que ese país albergará en noviembre.

Following its Juneteenth opening, the Obama Presidential Center is embracing a message tied to one of the modern left’s most contentious ideas: that America was built on land «stolen» from Indians.
During Thursday’s dedication ceremony, Obama Foundation CEO Valerie Jarrett opened proceedings by acknowledging the American Indian tribes who originally inhabited the land where the center now stands.
But the acknowledgment extends well beyond the opening ceremony.
Just a few feet from the center’s landmark museum tower and near the Obama statue, visitors encounter a permanent display titled «Acknowledging Indigenous Peoples’ Land and Territory.»

The sign states that the Obama Foundation acknowledges «the sovereign Indigenous peoples who have, since time immemorial, inhabited and stewarded the lands many of us call home.»
Another section of the sign states that «Indigenous peoples» have worked to «combat and rightfully reverse the forces of settler colonialism» and features a 2009 Obama quote reflecting on broken treaties, lost lands and the treatment of Native Americans.
«Treaties were violated. Promises were broken,» Obama said.
Land acknowledgments have become common at universities, museums and public events, but critics often mock them as performative exercises associated with the view that America was built on «stolen land.» Supporters argue they serve as an important recognition of the history of American Indians and their connection to the land.

But the land acknowledgment also underlines a glaring irony, one that was largely absent from Thursday’s opening ceremony, according to some critics. The Obama Presidential Center, operated by the private Obama Foundation, sits on public land transferred to the foundation by the city of Chicago for just $10 under a controversial agreement.
«People here in future years are going to hear about how this land was stolen from the Native Americans,» Illinois GOP Chair Bob Grogan told Fox News Digital outside the Center last week. «But underneath, you should all be reading into this, that it was actually stolen from the citizens of Illinois, not from the Native Americans.»
The criticism stems from a yearslong legal and political battle over the transfer of 19.3 acres of Jackson Park public land to the Obama Foundation under a 99-year agreement requiring the one-time $10 payment.
Critics also argue that what was originally presented as a presidential library evolved into a campus that serves as the home of the Obama Foundation.

Grogan said visitors should view the display through the lens of the Center’s own history. He argued the land was created after the Great Chicago Fire through landfill and public works projects and therefore belongs to Chicago taxpayers.

«This land actually was recaptured from the Great Chicago Fire. They took a bunch of rubble and actually created this land,» he said. «So it has nothing to do with the Native Americans, but it has everything to do with stealing it from the taxpayers of the city of Chicago.»
Grogan argued the land fight cannot be separated from the broader controversy surrounding the Center, which has seen construction costs approach $1 billion and required millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded infrastructure improvements around Jackson Park. He also pointed to the Obama Foundation’s unfulfilled pledge to build a $470 million endowment fund intended to protect taxpayers from future operating costs.

Critics point to another irony.
In addition, the Center was promoted as a catalyst for economic opportunity on Chicago’s South Side and a vehicle for supporting minority-owned businesses. Yet a recent Fox News Digital investigation found several subcontractors — including minority-owned firms — claiming they are owed millions of dollars for work performed on the project.
The Obama Foundation did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
