Péter Magyar aseguró que Hungría volverá a ser un fuerte aliado de la Unión Europea y la OTAN tras su victoria electoral
El conservador Péter Magyar, vencedor de las elecciones legislativas en Hungría, garantizó este domingo que su gobierno marcará un cambio de rumbo hacia una integración plena con la Unión Europea y la OTAN.
“Hungría será nuevamente un fuerte aliado en la Unión Europea y en la OTAN”, declaró ante una multitud en Budapest, apenas se confirmó el triunfo de su partido Tisza, que obtuvo la mayoría absoluta en el Parlamento y puso fin a 16 años de dominio de Viktor Orbán.
Magyar resaltó el respaldo popular al proyecto europeo tras una campaña marcada por el distanciamiento de Orbán respecto a Bruselas y su acercamiento a Moscú.
“Los húngaros dijeron sí a Europa”, afirmó, y subrayó que la posición de su país será inequívoca.
“El lugar de nuestra patria estuvo, está y estará en la UE”, dijo.
Anunció que su primera gira oficial lo llevará a Varsovia, Viena y Bruselas, con el objetivo de “recuperar los fondos de la UE que corresponden a Hungría”.
El futuro primer ministro insistió en que la nueva administración priorizará la reconstrucción de relaciones con los países vecinos y el fortalecimiento de alianzas dentro del bloque occidental.
“Renovaremos y ampliaremos, si es posible, la cooperación del grupo Visegrado”, señaló, en alusión a la alianza regional con Polonia, Chequia y Eslovaquia. En este sentido, explicó que su primer destino será Polonia, país con el que compartirá una agenda de seguridad y apoyo a Ucrania frente a Rusia.
Magyar expresó su voluntad de resolver los litigios heredados por la gestión anterior con la Comisión Europea y otras instituciones.
“Iré a Bruselas para traer de vuelta los fondos europeos que pertenecen al pueblo húngaro”, prometió, al tiempo que recordó que el congelamiento de 19.000 millones de euros se debió a la deriva autoritaria y los escándalos de corrupción durante el mandato de Orbán.
El dirigente conservador también anunció reformas internas para restaurar la independencia de los poderes del Estado y frenar la concentración de poder que caracterizó a los últimos gobiernos.
“Vamos a restaurar el sistema de frenos y contrapesos”, aseguró. También exigió la renuncia de los responsables del Tribunal Constitucional, la Fiscalía y el regulador de medios, todos designados por aliados de Orbán. Advirtió, además, que quienes “saquearon Hungría” deberán rendir cuentas.
El giro geopolítico de Hungría fue celebrado por varios líderes europeos. Ursula von der Leyen, presidenta de la Comisión Europea, elogió que “Hungría ha elegido Europa”, mientras que Emmanuel Macron, presidente de Francia, destacó el compromiso húngaro con los valores de la UE.
El canciller alemán Friedrich Merz y el secretario general de la OTAN, Mark Rutte, mantuvieron conversaciones con Magyar para felicitarlo y reforzar los vínculos estratégicos.
La contundente victoria de Tisza, con más de dos tercios de los escaños, permitirá a Magyar derogar reformas impulsadas por Orbán y reabrir el diálogo con Bruselas para destrabar fondos y fortalecer la posición húngara en el bloque comunitario.
En su intervención, el próximo jefe de gobierno reiteró: “Representaré a todos los húngaros, incluidos los que viven fuera del país”, y ratificó su apuesta por una Hungría plenamente integrada al proyecto europeo y atlántico.
El triunfo de Magyar representa un viraje decisivo en la política exterior húngara y anticipa una nueva etapa de cooperación con la Unión Europea y la OTAN, tras años de políticas aislacionistas y alianzas alternativas impulsadas por el gobierno anterior.

Cómo es la iniciativa de IA aplicada a la salud que ganó el primer puesto en el hackathon de Harvard y Swiss Medical
Integrity Health ganó el Hackathon de Swiss Medical y la Escuela de Medicina de Harvard con una solución de inteligencia artificial que reduce los tiempos de acceso al tratamiento agudo del ACV, consolidándose como el equipo ganador de la segunda edición del certamen global organizado por Swiss Medical en Buenos Aires.
La iniciativa fue seleccionada entre 12 equipos interdisciplinarios del hub local y participará junto a otros 19 proyectos en el Demo Day internacional, patrocinado por la reconocida Universidad de Harvard, donde se presentarán ante inversores y referentes del sector salud para acelerar la implementación y escalabilidad de sus soluciones.
La 7ª edición del Hackathon global Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL) de la Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, realizada en la sede de Swiss Medical, reunió a más de 16.000 inscriptos en más de 40 países y 50 hubs, con el objetivo de promover el desarrollo de soluciones innovadoras mediante la colaboración internacional y el uso responsable de datos en el sector sanitario.
La solución de inteligencia artificial desarrollada por Integrity Health busca reducir el tiempo que pasa entre que una persona sufre un accidente cerebrovascular (ACV) y recibe el tratamiento adecuado. Utiliza herramientas de IA para agilizar la detección, el diagnóstico y la derivación del paciente, ayudando a que los médicos tomen decisiones más rápidas y precisas. Esto puede aumentar las probabilidades de recuperación y disminuir las secuelas.
El alcance del hackathon y la apuesta por la inteligencia artificial
El evento, realizado los días 10 y 11 de abril, fue organizado por el Health Systems Innovation Lab de la Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health junto a Swiss Medical, y se enfocó en acelerar la adopción de inteligencia artificial en el ámbito de la salud.
Participaron expertos de 37 países, quienes trabajaron sobre problemáticas reales relacionadas con la gestión hospitalaria, la experiencia del paciente, el análisis predictivo y la optimización de procesos clínicos.
La modalidad del hackathon promovió la resolución de casos prácticos, permitiendo que equipos compuestos por estudiantes, profesionales y especialistas diseñaran y prototiparan soluciones aplicables y escalables, con especial atención al impacto real en la atención médica y la protección de datos.
Los organizadores remarcaron que la inteligencia artificial fue el eje transversal de todas las propuestas, en línea con la tendencia internacional de repensar modelos tradicionales para mejorar la eficiencia de los sistemas sanitarios.
El rol de Swiss Medical y la articulación local
Swiss Medical fue, por segundo año consecutivo, anfitrión del evento en Buenos Aires, consolidando su liderazgo en la incorporación de tecnología y fortaleciendo su compromiso con el desarrollo del talento local.
En esta edición, se sumaron como nuevos espacios el IAE Business School y el Sanatorio Finochietto, ampliando la integración entre el ámbito académico, el sector privado y los prestadores de servicios médicos. Esta articulación busca potenciar la transferencia tecnológica y multiplicar las oportunidades para el ecosistema emprendedor argentino.
Gabriel Novick, director médico de Swiss Medical, subrayó: “Este Hackathon es un verdadero laboratorio de futuro, donde se transforma conocimiento en acción y colaboración en soluciones con impacto concreto en la salud de las personas”. La convocatoria estuvo abierta a estudiantes, jóvenes profesionales y expertos con trayectoria en salud, tecnología o negocios, priorizando la diversidad de miradas como pilar fundamental de la innovación.
Proyectos ganadores y antecedentes destacados
El equipo Integrity Health fue seleccionado como ganador del hub de Swiss Medical gracias a su solución de inteligencia artificial orientada a mejorar la sobrevida y reducir secuelas en pacientes con ACV. Los 20 equipos ganadores a nivel global participarán del Demo Day internacional en junio, evento patrocinado por la Universidad de Harvard para acelerar la implementación y escalabilidad de los proyectos.
En la edición anterior, el hub argentino ya había sido protagonista con el caso de Kuvia AI, una startup local reconocida por Harvard entre las iniciativas más relevantes del certamen. Kuvia AI, que utiliza inteligencia artificial para transformar diagnósticos oncológicos, es actualmente una empresa en expansión y su éxito validó la capacidad de los equipos argentinos para competir en escenarios internacionales de innovación en salud.
El valor de la colaboración interdisciplinaria y la proyección internacional
La convocatoria priorizó la diversidad de perfiles, integrando a estudiantes, jóvenes profesionales y expertos en salud, tecnología y negocios, bajo la premisa de que los desafíos sanitarios requieren enfoques interdisciplinarios y colaborativos.
El carácter global del evento y la articulación entre instituciones como Harvard, Swiss Medical y entidades locales refuerzan la estrategia de generar soluciones que puedan ser aplicadas tanto a nivel nacional como internacional.
La participación argentina en el hackathon y el reconocimiento obtenido por proyectos como Integrity Health y Kuvia AI consolidan la posición del país como referente en innovación tecnológica aplicada a la salud, en línea con las tendencias globales del sector.

JOHANNESBURG: A strategically important air base and port have been offered to the U.S. as a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz begins and Iran-backed threats target the key Red Sea chokepoint of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Top U.S. military officials, including the Commander of U.S. Forces in Africa, Gen. Dagvin Anderson, recently visited facilities being offered in Somaliland. Somaliland is a pro-U.S. outpost, having broken away from war-torn Somalia in 1991.
Bab-el-Mandeb, which is Arabic for ‘gate of tears’, has become the main route for oil to ship out of the Middle East to Asia since the Strait of Hormuz was effectively closed. Bloomberg News reported that Saudi Arabia has switched to shipping potentially up to seven million barrels of oil a day from its port at Yanbu on the Red Sea through the strait. It’s reported that up to 14% of the world’s shipping passes through the 16-mile-wide strait.

Enter the controversial offer to the U.S. of an air and naval base at Berbera in Somaliland. The official Republic of Somaliland site on X extolled Berbera’s virtues last month, boasting that it has «a deep water port along the artery connecting the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean», and «one of Africa’s longest runways, originally developed as a NASA emergency landing site.»
«Berbera obviously has huge strategic potential,» for sea and air operations, Edmund Fitton-Brown, a former U.K. ambassador to Yemen and a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), told Fox News Digital.

The U.S. does have another Red Sea base in Djibouti, but Fitton-Brown told Fox News Digital the government there is increasingly uncomfortable with some of the Administration’s policies: «Djibouti becomes an increasingly reluctant, unwilling ally to the U.S. in helping enforce sanctions on the Houthis. Somaliland, which is almost equally well-placed to address issues on the western and southwestern coasts of Yemen, can help the U.S., Israel and the UAE combat the Houthis.»
The controversy comes over the question of U.S. recognition of Somaliland.

President Trump, in the Oval Office last August, told reporters, «We’re looking into that right now,» when asked about the recognition of Somaliland and the possible resettlement of Gazans there, adding, «We’re working on that right now, Somaliland.»
But this past week, a State Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital, «the United States continues to recognize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, which includes the territory of Somaliland.»
Last year Israel became the first country to recognize Somaliland.

Iran is pushing the Houthis to take action in the Red Sea. «Insecurity in other straits, including the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea, is one of the options of the Resistance Front, and the situation will become much more complicated than it is today for the Americans,» the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-linked Tasmin news agency warned on March 21.
Baraa Shaiban, an expert on the Houthis at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), says the recognition of Somaliland is problematic, as it «will upset the U.S. relationship with the Arab countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt, many of which are U.S. allies. It would be unwise for the United States to upset its allies in the region just to gain access to Somaliland ports.»

A spokesperson for the U.S. military in Africa (AFRICOM), told Fox News Digital, «The U.S. is not seeking to establish new basing, as such actions do not align with the America First security framework articulated by the President and Secretary of War.»
While publicly both the use of bases and recognition of Somaliland are no-go areas, analysts say that with Somaliland offering the use of its bases without immediate recognition by the administration, the issue is perhaps privately not off the table.
And that could be why a recent video shared with Fox News Digital shows AFRICOM Commander Dagvin Anderson and a large group of senior military officials in Somaliland, where he met with its president and appearing to inspect the port in Berbera in November, just 5 months ago.

That’s not the only reported visit. Somaliland’s top diplomatic representative in Washington, Bashir Goth, told a recent Foreign Policy Research Institute debate, «The war in the Middle East has elevated Somaliland’s strategic importance,» Goth noted. » U.S. Military interest has been very strong. Every month, there has been a delegation from AFRICOM to Hargeisa. (The capital of Somaliland)».

Democrats build midterm momentum, but Republicans still in driver’s seat in Senate majority battle

A leading nonpartisan political handicapper predicts that the Democrats’ path to winning back the Senate majority in this year’s midterm elections is getting wider thanks to a rough political climate for the GOP, but that capturing control of the chamber remains a «tall order.»
The Cook Political Report on Monday shifted the ratings in four key Senate races in favor of the Democrats, but added that Republicans «remain the narrowing favorites to retain the upper chamber.»
Republicans currently control the Senate 53-47 but are battling stiff political headwinds, as the party in power in the nation’s capital traditionally loses seats in the midterms. The GOP faces a rough political climate fueled by economic concerns amid persistent inflation, as well as rising gas prices tied to what polls show is an unpopular war with Iran and President Donald Trump’s underwater approval ratings.
«Right now, we see the likeliest outcome is a one to three seat Democratic pickup — still just out of reach of the four seats the party needs to reclaim the majority,» Cook Report Senate and Governors Editor Jessica Taylor said in a release.

The Cook Report shifted the race to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Thom Tillis in battleground North Carolina from toss-up to lean Democrat. Former two-term Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper is facing off against former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley in what will likely be one of the most expensive and competitive Senate showdowns in the nation this autumn.
In battleground Georgia, where Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff is running for a second six-year term, the Cook Report also moved the race from toss-up to lean Democrat. Republicans view Ossoff as the most vulnerable Senate Democrat seeking re-election this year, but he has built a massive war chest while the GOP faces a three-way primary battle for its nomination.
STRATEGY SESSION: TRUMP TEAM HUDDLES ON MIDTERM MESSAGING
In red-leaning Ohio, where appointed Republican Sen. Jon Husted will face off in November against former longtime Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, the Cook Report shifted their ranking from lean Republican to toss up, noting that «even recent GOP polling» has indicated the race is all knotted up.
The Cook Report also shifted Nebraska, a red state where GOP Sen. Pete Ricketts will face a general election challenge from independent candidate Dan Osborn, from solid Republican to likely Republican.

«We concede that these ratings changes are coming as Trump is at a new polling low and still navigating a yet-to-be-resolved war in Iran. So it’s possible things could rebound for his party or that they could find a rallying cry to get his base out in November — a summer Supreme Court retirement certainly wouldn’t hurt,» Taylor noted.
And she pointed out that «Democrats are still contending with messy primary fights in Maine, Michian, Minnesota and Iowa, where Republicans are rooting for flawed or bruised nominees to emerge. And Republicans will have a significant institutional financial advantage.»
FOX NEWS POLL: AN EARLY LOOK AT THE 2026 MIDTERMS
National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) chair, Sen. Tim Scott, acknowledged in a Fox News Digital interview last month that «there’s no doubt the climate has gotten more and more difficult by the day, it seems like at times.»
But Scott added that he remains «incredibly optimistic» the GOP can not only hold but expand its current majority.
The rival Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), in an email to supporters titled «Democratic Odds of Taking the Senate Increase as Four Ratings Shift in Their Favor,» spotlighted the Cook Report’s ratings shift.
